Communist China causing trouble - yet again. Clearly they are having a tantrum over President Lai Ching-te's perfectly legitimate tour of Taiwan's friends in the Pacific.

The best thing free Taiwan can do is continue being the progressive, democratic and freedom-loving nation that they are, setting an example for the region. All the very opposite of Communist China.

When Lai Ching-te decided he needed to transit through Hawaii and Guam to visit an island in the South Pacific he knew there would be a response. He's not the smartest guy to be honest.

Cause and effect.

More training or is this time the 'real' invasion deal, as the world is in growing political chaos, and the US now has effectively no sitting President with Biden MIA.

The classic geopolitical power vacuum.

President Lai Ching-te has every right to visit friendly nations on behalf of free Taiwan.

He's not the smartest guy to be honest.

Magnitudes more intelligent than that pathetic thug Xi the Pooh.

And Xi is magnitudes more intelligent than the CCP supporters who dont even live in China but choose to be internet cheerleaders.

Taiwan has one of the best equipped and trained armies in the world and the entire population would fight. And it is an island, easy to defend.

China eventually would win but heavy losses might make Xi loose his presidency before the invasion is successful.

the US would intervene, even under Trump and Japan will send messages if support.

This will be the true mark of failure of the Trump regime is if he fails in deterring Xi.

Let's be honest: everywhere he would have gone would have elicited a response from the bully, no?

As if the deaths and destructions caused in Eastern Europe, MIddle East and Syria are not enough, the usual American patriots are trying to incite more tensions in Asia, when China has all the rights of this world of navigation, as opposed to the US Navy, which does not even belong to the continent.

Still Putin's War in Ukraine and Erdogan's War in Syria.

the usual American patriots are trying to incite more tensions in Asia, when China has all the rights of this world of navigation, as opposed to the US Navy, which does not even belong to the continent.

Everywhere not in 12 nm of China's shore is navigable by the US Navy. Also Guam is part of Asia, despite some people's wishes to the contrary.

This intolerable situation is getting out if hand - it is time for Antonio Guterres, the UN's chief, to call the Chinese and Taiwanese leaders to round-table talks. If Xi Jin-ping refuses, he must send him a declaration to cease and desist all provocative actions forthwith, adding that China must respect the sovereign democratic wishes of Taiwan's leaders and people.

The silence from the UN is baffling - this sort of international interference is exactly what they are here to resolve. The mystery here is why they are doing nothing.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The mystery here is why they are doing nothing.

Because Taiwan has no legitimate status to be recognized as a nation !

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

This intolerable situation is getting out if hand…

That’s right, after the death and destruction caused by US in two different continents, by providing billions of dollars of weapons, it’s time to stop them trying to flare up tensions in Asia

That even the US officially recognizes that TAIPEI is a province of China is significant.

That in it's usual 'but the rules are whatever we decide' fashion, the US also holds, for political purposes, the local government of that Chinese province is somehow a country (in the same way it holds that, despite it's official position that Puerto Rico is not a colony, for political purposes, it somehow is)

That America holding war games in those waters halfway around the world from it is miraculously not threatening, but China holding war games practically in sight of Chinese territory is seems rather an illogical proposition.

Taiwan is an independent sovereign nation with a democratically-elected legislature, which is universally recognised as such throughout the Free World.

It absolutely deserves to have its' fears heard and allayed by the intervention of the United Nations, who are supported financially by most countries on this planet.

There's no point whatsoever harping on about historical colonialist mistakes of the past, we can only deal with the current situations and ensure that war is avoided at all costs.

China should be categorically told by the UN and all democratic countries of our world to "Get their filthy hands off Taiwan - it doesn't belong to China, it never has, and never will".

Look at how horrendously they've taken over in Tibet and Laos, destroying these old nations, by their insidious Sinocisation, how extremely miserable the populations are there now. Shocking.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Like Macau and Hong Kong before it, non-UN recognized Taiwan province should peacefully integrate.

The fascists lost the Chinese civil war and the forces of public decency control Beijing - and not the other way around.

Taiwan is clearly part of China's UN-recognized borders. We've been lectured how sacrosanct this concept is. Let's apply the same consistency here.

And your sources about the Laos and Tibet allegations are the US state department I believe?

It is unbelievable. We have an ongoing massacre of Palestinians being intentionally starved, and stripped of everything needed to sustain human life, the demise of rule of law, supported by the US administration with over $20 billions in weapons supply in 2024, and here we have the usual patriots who come to lecture people about China at home, halfway around the world.

This is really a comedy show as more people are joining with this baseless rhetoric.

Like we have been saying time over and over again, the anti-Beijing hysteria is clearly being led by the United States, which is not concerned that China will attack other countries, but is worried that its world hegemony is being challenged.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

And like we have been saying before Asia welcomes China because China is part of Asia. That would be the starting point of any conversation.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

The US is obligated by law to defend Taiwan under the Taiwan Relations Act against "any effort to determine the future of Taiwan by other than peaceful means." If you don't like it, you can blame both Carter and Reagan. https://www.congress.gov/bill/96th-congress/house-bill/2479

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@Nifty That is not how security treaties work as there is no agreement between the USA and the government in Taipei.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

I don't rely on any statements or output from the US state department - why would I ?

I read extremely widely, as I believe everyone ought to.....

1 ( +4 / -3 )

You guys know how propaganda works right?

Taiwan, the US and China all know that an invasion of Taiwan is IMPOSSIBLE. It is not going to happen. You also know that China is essential to the Taiwan economy right?

All just the usual anti China rhetoric, from the US as it cannot compete with China's advance.

The starting point of any conversation is that China is feared in the region.

Like we have been saying time over and over again, the anti-Beijing hysteria is clearly being led by the United States, which is not concerned that China will attack other countries, but is worried that its world hegemony is being challenged.

If China doesn't attack other countries, there will be no challenge to the hegemony because of point #1.

Reminder that Taiwan has more recognition than russia's disgraces.

The fascists lost the Chinese civil war and the forces of public decency control Beijing - and not the other way around.

Taiwan is the most vibrant democracy in Asia in 2024 and Peking is hosting the fascists.

Taiwan is clearly part of China's UN-recognized borders.

The UN only said that Peking represents China via simple majority, it didn't say what China's borders are. The belief is also not unanimous unlike the recognition of Ukraine.

We've been lectured how sacrosanct this concept is. Let's apply the same consistency here.

The consistency is in not condeming Israeli aggression while supporting russia's.

That even the US officially recognizes that TAIPEI is a province of China is significant.

Significant only of economics.

That in it's usual 'but the rules are whatever we decide' fashion, the US also holds, for political purposes, the local government of that Chinese province is somehow a country (in the same way it holds that, despite it's official position that Puerto Rico is not a colony, for political purposes, it somehow is)

The ROC has been an independent country since 1912 and Puerto Rico US territory since 1898. There was a referendum just this year and the latter wants to be a US state.

That America holding war games in those waters halfway around the world from it is miraculously not threatening, but China holding war games practically in sight of Chinese territory is seems rather an illogical proposition.

China has neighbors it doesn't live in peace with, the US does not.

Where in the UN Charter do you see language to suggest the UN Secretary General has this authority?

Same old story. The US propaganda who is trying to spread bogus information to preserve their multi billions orders of weapons to Asia, after destabilizing Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Christmas presents are getting expensive. Forget the morality implications
