They can simulate as much as they want. My neighbour simulates too. Hopefully not with me in mind! At least we know now their cunning plan. Make the welcome nasty.

Yup...China deliberately threatened the US if Pelosi visited Taiwan, knowning that the US could not stand down. Then they use that visit, which really didn't change anything, as an excuse to carry out large scale drill all around Taiwan undoubedly a rehersal for an invasion and blockade. The world would have been up in arms if China had done this without any proclaimed "provocation" and an exciuse for a "response". Wonder what page in the Art of War this is laid out.

But don't worry, the US is not sleeping. US and Indian troops are carrying out joint exercises near the India-China border.

The Chinese used the Pelosi visit to practice blockade and missile strikes.

But their real goal is try try to set a new precedent that US officials cannot visit Taiwan and that they can blockade as they see fit. Neither should be allowed to stand.

This whole kerfuffle just goes to show how far the CCP has put itself in a box...

It stokes nationalism at every opportunity to deflect the Chinese people from the systemic corruption and human rights abuses it inflicts on them, then when the time comes when it would prefer a diplomatic solution, it is forced to engage in these military theatrics that are nothing but a waste of resources and money...

These exercises are not conducted to influence Taiwan, or the US, or Japan...they're to show the average Chinese their government isn't "weak"...

And it again reinforces that the only "enemy" the CCP's sees, is its own people...

I say lets just have a war with the pathetic commie chinks

Offensive rascist terms are both inappropriate and unnecessary.

There is little honour or a shred of ethics, morality, acceptance of the meaning of humane, benevolence to Xi Jinping actions.

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has spent an entire political career, jamming democracy right up the Government of China hooter.

When  U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi exited onto Taiwanese tarmac, the Government of China rational thinking melted away like ice cream, the red mist descended, and Xi Jinping dictatorship set about a brutal ruthless agenda to make sure Taiwan, its government, its people pay.

In many respects U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was the last straw of any pretence of US/China cooperation that represented a fair, reliable, stable relationship.

At least that masquerade is out of the way,

One thing I know for sure since I lived in India for roughly 8 years. This proud nation would NEVER allow the US to carry out joint exercises with India at the Sino-Indian border. This does no happen.

The US tried it with Nepal but this was also rejected and rejected not only because of China's opposition but also because of India's.

US should sell Taiwan some F35s so they can run some of their own simulations - over Beijing. Why should the CCP be untouchable while threatening others.

Taiwan says China military drills appear to simulate attack

Well of course they do. What else would they drill? That said, there will not be an attack on the Taiwanese main island. However, it is entirely possible that, following Pelosis policy stunt, the CCP will annex some of the small Taiwanese outposts close to mainland China like Quemoy. That is entirely feasible, and would give Xi the needed propaganda boost.

Interesting question. However, this is exactly what the US claims for itself. Is that OK?

I do not think so. Her sponsors are entirely in favour of continued dependence on China. Her policy stunt was entirely domestic (giving the current regime a fake foreign policy talking point before election, distracting from the string of disasters under Biden). As usual, what is most on the mind of American neocon-neolibs is domestic policy.

A good opportunity for Taiwan to take notes on what China is doing in it's simulated invasion, so they can tailor one defensive plan to suit defending it. No doubt China will see what seems likely to work and will modify some things but this could be one blueprint of Chinese plans for the future, or part of them. Perhaps not smart for China to have done, especially if they follow it identically when they do try to invade in the future.

If China was smart, they would analyze just why so many people from all over the world risk life and limb to make a new life in the US, Europe, Australia etc and nobody does that to make a new life in China. What is so alluring about life in Europe and the west that China lacks completely. How can China become so popular that the world wants to emmigrate to China for a prosperous future for their families. If they can figure that out, and replicate it, they may just be able to entice Taiwan people to want to be a part of China. Failing that the only way to control Taiwan is via military invasion to conquer it.

Frankly, I am struggling to fully understand/comprehend how U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi official role integrates with US government stance on foreign policy?

So...Taiwan and USA and Japan what are you doing about it huh ?

Not doing diddly squat are ya!

Absolutely pathetic !

Russia and China think the USA is a joke !

Taiwan doesn't stand a chance and it knows it !

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

US has been doing this for years in close proximity to North Korea, which is why they continue to feverishly test and develop a range of weapons

War games are simulations designed to teach people how to deal with real problems they may face in a real fight. China is conducting training for a blockade and invasion of Taiwan. I wonder how they are training for the part when Taiwan shoots them down?

The speaker is responsible for ensuring that the House passes legislation supported by the majority party. In pursuing this goal, the speaker may use their power to determine when each bill reaches the floor. That means she can arrange for prime-time voting of things her party wants passed or dead-of-night voting for bills to fail or pass.

The House controls what gets funded. The US has been considering $2B in military support to Taiwan to counter the mainland. The more that China flexes, the more money will be provided to the country of Taiwan.

Everyone DOES know that Taiwan was recognized as a sovereign country by the United Nations from 1949 until 1971, right? It was removed when the CCP got sufficient world political power to ahve them expelled. The ROC did not stay.

Efforts by the US to have them admitted to the UN as a separate state failed too. I could see why the CCP was a little unhappy with the ROC in 1971 and didn't want them in the UN at all after 22 yrs of claims that the ROC represented all of China.

Holding a grudge against Taiwan since 1971 is petty, but there are lots of petty disagreements in our world, as we all know.
