Too bad Taiwan can't help Hong Kong become free and independent from the authoritarian, corrupt Chinese government.

The case triggered an ill-fated proposal by Hong Kong's pro-Beijing government to ram through a sweeping extradition bill which would have allowed the city to extradite suspects to any territory, including the authoritarian mainland.

NO, it wouldn't have been legal to do so, because HK is not allowed to recognise Taiwan as a country. The bill would have purely served Beijing's purposes.
