China will treat you like a long lost child.

Why would any adult want to be treated like a child, especially when the people that would be 'treating' them have shown how cruel they can be to their 'own' children?

Hong Kong tells a different story about how China is 'treating' them. Recall Taiwanese people have access to a free press, and are able to travel the globe, Taiwanese people are able to see for themselves that their lives are probably much better remaining independent from the CCP.

...in the face of China's rising bellicosity.

Good. Bellicosity is the word of the day.

Millions upon millions of Chinese of the mainland, if information were not censored, would long to belong to or adopt a system like Taiwan's.

China's sabre-rattling and bullying of Taiwan is horrifying.

Somewhere in China, millions, perhaps several tens of millions in another arbitrary lock-down are wondering “Why can’t we have elections too?”

Dear Taiwan,

It is not better to vote for china! You know what you will be missing if you join china, Freedom to speak, Freedom to vote, Freedom to criticize! You are Taiwanese !! That's right according to a research poll!

You may be nervous at times because of the bully across the strait, but the whole neighborhood has the same feeling and so most of us are on your side. Please do not join china because you won't be happy! Do not listen to the false statements from the CCP and their 50 cent warriors on this website!

Go out and vote, defend your democracy and your way of life! Long Live Freedom!!

The Kuomingtang is more or less in the CCP's pocket as they see it as the lesser of two evils. Chiang Kai Shek must be rolling over in his grave.

Taiwan, it is your choice how to live.

You know what freedom is like. You are close enough to see what China has to offer. Do you want that? A govt that constantly lies, constantly censors, constantly lashes out at everyone not withing the single-party system, regardless of where they are in the world.

So now, will Taiwan reunite with China ... peacefully, and enjoy the COVID Lockdowns that their mainland brethren are so happy with ?

"We advocate being close to the United States, friendly with Japan and having peace with the mainland. Let Taiwan have a prosperous future of peaceful and stable development," KMT Chairman Eric Chu told his supporters late on Friday.

The results are in. The ruling party lost and the KMT took a big step forward. I believe the Taiwanese chose the party that will bring less tensions with China.

The Kuomingtang is more or less in the CCP's pocket as they see it as the lesser of two evils. Chiang Kai Shek must be rolling over in his grave.

His grandson just got elected to be the Mayor of Taipei.

Somewhere in China, millions, perhaps several tens of millions in another arbitrary lock-down are wondering “Why can’t we have elections too?”

They have elections. Besides it's not about elections, it's civil liberties and top down clamp downs that are the issues in contention with the West. Communist China have elected leaders who practice authoritarianism. A democratic China will also have elected leaders who practice authoritarianism. Imperial, Communist or Democratic, the government will always be controlling and rule with a heavy hand.

There is also a vote on lowering the voting age to 18 from 20, which both parties support.

This referendum failed to pass.

Polls opened in Taiwan on Saturday in local elections that President Tsai Ing-wen has framed as being about sending a message to the world about the island's determination to defend its democracy in the face of China's rising bellicosity.

The Taiwan president resigns as DPP chair following party's election losses. Thank you Nancy Pelosi. These are the consequences of your narcissistic overstep and fantasy secretary of state play.
