The "Islamic State" would be idiots to pass up this golden opportunity to spread their terrorism on a global scale (one of their stated goals), and anybody who thinks they're not taking advantage of this manufactured refugee "crisis" is a flaming idiot of the most dangerous magnitude.

Spare the world your deflective accusations of paranoia, Islamophobia, xenophobia, etc. If you think 100% of the refugees are perfectly safe, take a random sample of them into your own home. And by that I don't mean making other people in your country pay to house them well outside of your neighborhood, I mean open your door and put them up in the actual house you live in.

The refugees don't even have to be trained ISIS sleeper agents to be a problem. Just ask Elin Krantz.

Calm down, OldHawk

Nobody in the article has said any such thing. Neither do I, and I am a bleeding heart liberal.

Consider it a preemptive post. ;) Every other thread about the Syrian refugee/migration/invasion so far has politically correct... individuals... who are complaining about the "bigoted" and "xenophobic" comments of realists. So they're bound to turn up here as well.

Obama, like many in the West, is still stumbling under the liberal delusion that Islam is “just another religion,” to be assimilated into the great American melting pot. It it not. Islam is a medieval culture and system of law that is utterly incompatible with Western ideals of democracy, freedom and tolerance. Read the Koran and Hadith, and look at history and recent world events, and you will understand this.

@OldHawk

The "Islamic State" would be idiots to pass up this golden opportunity to spread their terrorism on a global scale

For starters, they are idiots. Next, they have kicked the hornets nest and are a little to busy right now to spare fighters or thought on far away regions of the world.

anybody who thinks they're not taking advantage of this manufactured refugee "crisis" is a flaming idiot of the most dangerous magnitude.

Sorry, but your attempt to deflect by mentioning paranoia, Islamophobia and xenophobia yourself is not working to hide these things in your rhetoric. There is not likely to be any trained, skilled terrorists in these refugee groups. The greater danger is not now, but later. They have not arrived in paradise, and some of them are going to become angry and bitter over the next few years, and a few will then decide to go back and join and train with some terrorist groups.

The overwhelming majority won't want to go back though. A great lot of those however will want to make some changes in society and that will be about as welcome as an Irishman in Beacon Hill, Boston in the 19th century. Of course I just chuckle how people get their panties in a twist over women wanting to wear a piece of cloth on the face and Muslims wanting the option of Shariah in civil matters when its Muslim vs. Muslim. Big deal. Some people need a shellalegh over the head to be able to calm down and put things in perspective.

ISIS, Alqaeda and etc blame the West and Europe for everything, what you think will happen in the coming years? This people hates everything come from West and Europe and any allied forces this is common sense for God sake. You think trained people fo Islamic terrorist will be discover with criminal background check and psychological questions? Geez how dumb can be the government! I'm not agreed about wars but WWIII has to beginning to end this mess of middles east once at all, like we did WWII with Hitler. ISIS will invade all Europe (if it's no already taken more of 800.000 "refugees"). This is insane!

The States are a hard sell because of two words: Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Nationality aside, the outsider threat sensitivity wouldn't help integrate Syrians. How easy to demonize these people and play to the 'follow you home' meme of Bushwars. How many tax dollars should find their way to feeding, clothing, building homes, schools and religious freedom for these newest Americans?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The States are a hard sell because of two words: Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Yet, he was not Syrian and does not even represent his fellow Kyrgyzstani immigrants, nor did his brother.

What fool spurns 1000 people because of one of them might be a trouble maker?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

He is just stating the obvious. But the media will lambast him for that, as usual.

What I want to know is: Why is the West accepting only Sunni Muslim refugees from Syria? While nobody tries to help the people who are genocided by the Sunni radicals like ISIS, Al Nusra et. al, namely the Yazidis and Christians?

Sunni muslims in Syria might have a hard time, but nobody is trying to mass-murder them! Talk about an upsided down world-view.

He is just stating the obvious. But the media will lambast him for that, as usual.

I agree there will be heightened risk of terrorism. However, the one percentage point of increased risk was not worth a statement.

Why can't we have articles and headlines about the increased risk of gratitude? Or the increased risk of operatives on our side with detailed knowledge of Syria? Or the increased risk of future shopkeepers and fast food personnel? Or the increased risk of positive cultural exchange?

Or the increased risk of operatives on our side with detailed knowledge of Syria? Or the increased risk of future shopkeepers and fast food personnel? Or the increased risk of positive cultural exchange?

I think you're missing the point that the US has been down that street before. Unfortunately a lot of the immigrants from Islamic cultures have not ended with positive culutural exchange, as well as the fact a lot of these people aren't just from Syria, but other nearby nations as well. And if you believe there will be "gratitude" you obviously haven't heard of the term taqiyaa. That term specifically describes that there is a gullible sucker in front of you, take advantage of them until you can subjugate them.

Peace Out:

For starters, they are idiots.

Obama once tried to dismiss them as the "JV team". Don't make the same mistake. ISIS has social media savvy, financing, weapons trafficking connections galore, and control of land in two countries. And you want to dismiss them as idiots? Do so at your own peril, not mine.

Next, they have kicked the hornets nest and are a little to busy right now to spare fighters or thought on far away regions of the world.

Your source for that information isn't the Obama administration, is it? Because multiple news sources (I think The Guardian is where I read it) are reporting that 50 spies are saying that the Obama administration is politicizing (rewriting) their reports to fit its political narrative. Still have to keep that "we've got them on the run" fairy tale going for the True Believers, don'cha know.

Sorry, but your attempt to deflect by mentioning paranoia, Islamophobia and xenophobia yourself is not working to hide these things in your rhetoric.

How ironic. Your posts on other threads were some of those I had in mind when I wrote that. I wasn't deflecting, I was referencing those who accuse others of paranoia, Islamaphobia, xenophobia, etc. Yes, you.

There is not likely to be any trained, skilled terrorists in these refugee groups.

How trained or skilled were the Boston Bombers? And say, weren't they from a refugee family? How about the shooter in Chattanooga? How much training or skill does it take to be a terrorist, anyway? Not much at all. Access is really all one needs. Access to weapons or bomb materials, and access to victims.

By the way, did you miss the news reportS of the young male "refugees" waving ISIS flags while facing off with the German police? How about the cargo ship that was intercepted while taking "aid supplies" to the refugees, and found to be loaded with weapons and ammunition?

The overwhelming majority won't want to go back though.

Would you leave the comfort of the European welfare system for Syria?

Of course I just chuckle how people get their panties in a twist over women wanting to wear a piece of cloth on the face and Muslims wanting the option of Shariah in civil matters when its Muslim vs. Muslim.

So you're okay with honor killings? Fascinating. Sick, but fascinating. Does this mean you will or won't be taking Syrian refugees into your own house?

I agree there will be heightened risk of terrorism. However, the one percentage point of increased risk was not worth a statement.

So you're okay with it, since the chances of affecting you directly are low. How... humanitarian... of you. And what is your source for this one percent?

Why can't we have articles and headlines about the increased risk of gratitude? Or the increased risk of operatives on our side with detailed knowledge of Syria? Or the increased risk of future shopkeepers and fast food personnel? Or the increased risk of positive cultural exchange?

The Obama administration has experience in fabricating such "news" out of thin air. Give them time, and I'm sure the NYT or Rolling Stone will help them get just such fairy tales out there.

Shouldn't it read: "US policy, weapons and military terrorizing Syria"

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Let the Middle Easterners help out each other, and the rest can go to Europe. The US is already doing enough.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

WilliB, are you sure that nobody in the US tries to help Yazidis and Christian refugees? Explain how the largest Yazidi community in the States came to be based in Lincoln, Nebraska, without straying from your 'nobody's helping' thesis.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I think you're missing the point that the US has been down that street before.

@HonestDictator Hmmm.....I thought I brought up the Irish. Shall I also bring up the Italians and the Poles, and the Scots and the Germans? How about the many from African nations who cannot even say which nations their ancestors came from? Did you know that 10 percent of them were Muslims but their religion was suppressed along with anything else associated with their freedom to do anything?

Oh. But these are Muslims who will be free to be Muslims. Oh, but when I brought up the Irish I was also bringing up Catholicism. I guess I should have been more clear, and realized that some people don't know much about American history with regard to immigrants and their religions.

So anyway, right now, America is about 1 percent Muslim. That is getting close to 3 million. About 70 percent of them are second generation only. But what percent of Muslims in America are chafing your poor behind?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

The US takes in a great deal of refugees every year, the quota for 2015 is 70,000 people. How many refugees will Japan accept? Last year Japan took in 11 refugees.

Already there are reports that known ISIS fighters number among Syrian refugees. Getting ISIS fighters into Europe and America would be quite difficult under normal circumstances, but with tens of thousands of refugees swarming in, it is not hard to mingle fighters among them. If Europe and America are smart, they will accept families only, and turn back any single men.

And even if the refugees they accept are not ISIS fighters, what happens then? These people find their ways into the Islamic subculture in Europe. They do not assimilate well into European society, because pretty much every facet of European or American life is non-Islamic. So rather than fit into the culture of their adopted country, they instead assert their own culture, which, judging by where they come from, has done them precious little good. In Europe, they will end up at the bottom of the food chain, where those who can find jobs earn little, and rather than blame themselves for not trying to fit in, they will riot and cause mayhem, and blame Europe for oppressing them.

Compassion. Compassion for other humans. Let's start there.

Way to show the compassion that American citizens are known to show. If we want to talk religions - Christianity is also extremely violent throughout history and recently. Just ask Iraq - the 2nd Gulf war with them was started by a "Christian." Didn't that first guy say something like "turn the other cheek?" All religions have wackos. Christians near me like to threaten medical doctors. That seems like terrorism to me. Buddhists and Hindus have also done terrible things. Islam doesn't have a lock on being bad. I think you are just afraid of normal Muslims and don't know why. Radicals exist in every group.

Compassion.

Out of 10K refugees, how many do you think will try to harm anyone? 5, 10? Sorry - that isn't enough for me to throw out a single religion ... well, not without throwing all of them out. The other 9,990 people are simple trying to leave a war zone. You would do the same. These are people. Humans.

The USA took in 130K Vietnamese. I think that is a starting point for Syrian refugees with proper checks and documents. In 30 years, their kids will hate their parents, just like normal American kids. All will have to struggle, it will be hard, but they will make a life and have a slightly less chance of being killed due to violence in the USA. Some of them will NOT make a life and will fail, if previous refugees to the USA are any guide. Vietnamese, Cambodian, Mexicans, Cubans, and people from Central America have all resettled here. Some "make it", some don't - the same applies to every 1st generation that came to the USA - Germans, Russians, Brits, Spanish, and Irish - some fail. A few were bad people, most were not.

"when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me."

"The US takes in a great deal of refugees every year, the quota for 2015 is 70,000 people. How many refugees will Japan accept? Last year Japan took in 11 refugees." - comments

Citing a source on these figures would make a stronger case, as presented however, whatever the quota, the US may have had a slightly more influential role in the process that created more refugees than after WWII. (see JT)

It isn't clear, Japan's rate of admission of Syrians? Wouldn't the GOP-Tea have the responsibility to close the boarders to these refugees, given their brisk dismissal of Mexicans behind Mr. Trump's Fence?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Bottom Line: Some terrorists will slip through the net with the refugees and enter the U.S. It can't be prevented 100%. Better not allow any refugees enter. Let the Arab states take them.

you obviously haven't heard of the term taqiyaa

That term specifically describes that there is a gullible sucker in front of you, take advantage of them until you can subjugate them.

Wow. Everywhere else defines it as absolution for denying your faith if your life is threatened, but the above definition makes much sexier clickbait, doesn't it. Don't let the truth get in your way!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Why take any risk in the first place? It's not racism or profiling but risk avoidance. Just ask the people of Boston.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

"when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me."

I'm far from being an expert on Christ or his religion (are you, or do you just like to make Christian references as a form of soft attack?), but I don't think he ever advocated helping a terrorist organization spread their agents and violence, directly, indirectly, or by unintended consequence.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Man, its such a big excuse that get used any time America and European nations drop bombs on people or invades their country; we are trying to help!

But when refugees need a place to live suddenly so many of those same people who talked about helping don't want to help!

Apparently the only way they know how to help people is by destroying their counties' infrastructure with bombs and their houses too and crying "collateral damage".

And all the people who get murdered all the time in America by other Americans, and now they want to reject thousands of good people on the basis one of them might be, what? A walking human nuclear bomb?

Nah. I think the real reasons are more like not wanting to share any ill gotten gains with them, or wanting to be inconvenienced by their cultural differences.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@Peace Out, unfortunately for you I have a lot of personal experience over the past 30+ years with those who are more of the so-called "moderate~fundamentalist" muslims.

My uncle and very few other relatives just happen to follow Islam. I've even received a Qur'an from that man. Ever been "preached" to by a relative who follows Islam trying to inspire you to convert to Islam? You'll learn a quite a few things. He also happens to live in Michigan... guess which town? And the worst part of it was that he's a born and raised American. But his Islamic perspective is quite frightening. Even as far as he's concerned the US will become an Islamic caliphate.

When I was in Utah for a few years for school, I had quite a few muslim roomies. Some were quite decent and but most were quite arrogant and believed that being a follower of Islam put them above quite a few laws and rights that are considered distributed equally among American's (It didn't help that a lot of them were immigrants from ME and African nations, these refugees and asylum seekers you know so much about).

All these experiences happened pre-2001. Islam wasn't even a blip on my radar. If it' weren't for everything that has been happening for the past few centuries up to the now I couldn't have cared less about Islam.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen fanaticism from quite a lot of different religions including Christianity of course. But not a single one of them made me fear for my life because I don't believe the same way they believe. You've never read a pre-2001 Qur'an cover to cover, nor have you read the hadiths. And you apparently don't have any truly muslim relatives that try to "show you the true way of Allah...."

Don't give me the, "You're calling a sheep a wolf speech" about Islam because I'm not foolish enough to call a wolf a wolf when I see it for what it is and what it does. Not all muslims are bad people, and one can only perceive them on a person by person basis. But when an ideology is bad, which no matter what you want to believe, Islam is a bad ideology compared to many of the worlds religions. The founder was the most violent of all the founders of the 3 major religions in the world and it reflects to this day.

Tell me the last time Jesus killed someone, or Buddha picked up a sword and smote a non-believer. Yet why did Mohammed raise an army to conquer other places that rejected his beliefs?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@HonestDictator I never said I like Islam or Middle Easterners. I also never said I thought dealing with them would be a cake walk. And I never said I knew them all well.

I am not interested in their arrogance or prosthelytizing or their blood relationship to me. Or the chance one might hand me a Koran.

Tell me the last time Jesus killed someone

Tell me the last time Mohammad killed someone!

I think you need to wake up to the realization that plenty of large figures in Christian mythology also were violent. Ever heard of Jericho? What did the people of Jericho do to anybody? What did their children do? Ever hear a Christian have one single condemnation of that genocide?

Earlier I asked YOU what percentage of the nearly three million Muslims in America were chafing your poor behind. Why don't you answer?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tell me the last time Mohammad killed someone!

Wow, you're lack of knowledge in Islam is sad. Read the hadiths and the Qur'an, Mohammed has quite a few verses about ordering the killing of others. Talk to Ali Sina (an apostate of Islam) and other ex-muslims. They've been stating this for DECADES how can you have a peaceful religion based on a violent founder?

Ever heard of Jericho? What did the people of Jericho do to anybody? What did their children do? Ever hear a Christian have one single condemnation of that genocide?

Oh, really, notice you had to go to the "Old testament" which is mostly the Jewish torah to pull something that has nothing to do with Christianity but actually with Judaism and a lot of the tribal conflict of those days? Jesus = founder of Christianity, not Judaism. Buddha = founder of Buddhism, Mohammed = founder of Islam. See the pattern?

Earlier I asked YOU what percentage of the nearly three million Muslims in America were chafing your poor behind. Why don't you answer?

What percentage is chafing me? There are plenty of muslim immigrants in my city, mostly from African nations and a few ME. Not all are bad, as I said, individuals are individual and everyone believes differently. But many muslims from Islamic countries try to do what they did in their country of origin and a lot of it is against the laws in the US.

The ones that are living in my city that are advocating for sharia law in the US, the ones that are so hell-bent on the "superiority" of Islam that they totally ignore the laws of the US, and basic human rights that are given in the US. The ones that are persecuting ex-muslims on US soil or attempt to bring their religious "cultural" differences and expect not to be prosecuted because their "beliefs" should let them keep concubines, slaves, beat their women, and persecute apostates and anyone else who does not follow Islam by hook or by crook.

My uncle when trying to tell me the "wonders" of how excellent Islam is, stated quite plainly, "When the US becomes one with Islam, there will be no place for unbelievers and will have to pay a fee" and how "If you become muslim you can have many wives". This man is not an immigrant, he's a black American descended from the slaves that were brought to this country in the 1700s.... His parents apparently were converts back in the 50s~60s since Islam was considered to not be the "white man's religion", which is a joke because they all originated from the same region.

We've had a lot of situations in the US involving Islamic ideology and extremism. Too many to list, but here are some mentions. A US soldier started firing on his own platoon because he was Muslim first, and an American second. Or the other soldier that started firing on a military base in Texas, because once again he was Muslim first, an American second. The 1996 WTC bombing, 2001 WTC attack, 2014 Boston Marathon Bombing, The young girl who was ran over (and killed) by her father because she was straying too far from Islamic ideology. The Egyptian girl that emancipated herself from her parents because she converted to Christianity and feared for her life. Or the time that a Christian group was passing out flyers and proslytizing in front of an "Arabic/ME cultural" festival and even the mostly Muslim police force tried to suppress their rights of free speech and freedom of expression on US soil... the Federal government had to set the county straight on freedom of religion and basic US constitutional rights. And so on.

Remember that actions speak louder than words. There are too many negative actions from the Islamic community world-wide not just the US to not figure out something is drastically wrong with the mentality that Islam promotes.
