Why is it that the US, British, and French can hold their own in a battle, but the native forces they're training are worthless in terms of combat skills.

This is precisely WHY you NEVER SURRENDER if you have the MEANS to RESIST...RIP.

They were ambushed and executed. So, it seems to mean that the local army guys were complacent and allowed themselves to get captured.

The Taliban are trying to make it sound like they were not captured (killed in battle) so that the next guys will also be complacent and allow this to happen.

WA4TKG, YES. It is a hard lesson. You would think common sense would make them wary. They should know more than any how harsh the Taliban are. I hope they learn sooner rather than later.

That is what Afghanistan will look like the moment the US and other western powers withdraw. They should never have gotten involved in that mess.

I've just watched a BBC Panamara programme that answers your question. It follows a US marine group who are assisting the Afghan soldiers. When they arrive the soldiers, including the commander are so stoned they have trouble filling sand bags. They also show a police garage lot with about 20 totally wrecked cars in it. The local commander claims for petrol and maintenance costs for his "fleet" every month. Then they find that the local police have kidnapped 4 men so they can trade them with the Taliban who have also kidnapped someone. Soldiers leave fully armed in the morning, go to the local market and sell their ammo and RPG's. And on it goes, some of it even worse. But what is clear is the Afghan forces don't have a snowball's chance in Hell of holding their own when the foriegn forces leave. It is just a matter of time before the Taliban reclaim Afghanistan.

It will all have been for nothing.

Yeah, courageous heroes kill by remote control drones. (That was sarcasm.)

@Nessie feel free to keep trying to feed, train, or replace a dead/seriously wounded soldier since apparently you think its as easy and affordable as replacing a drone. Its not always about being a courageous hero during a war walking into gunfire, mortars, IEDs (oh wait isn't that a remote attack too?), and mines with human flesh.

Afghanistan has been a crap hole for years, even the Russians do not want to get involved there anymore, so what is the USA and NATO doing in that same black hole??
