So a situation of American hostages....

...sounds like its gonna require the US military.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

The top Republican on the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, however, said that the group included Americans and they were sitting on the planes, but the Taliban were not letting them take off, effectively “holding them hostage." He did not say where that information came from. It was not immediately possible to reconcile the accounts.

Republicans simply cannot stop themselves from spreading misinformation.

Mazar-e-Sharif said that the would-be passengers were Afghans, many of whom did not have passports or visas, and thus were unable to leave the country.

quite right too, you or I couldn't leave a country without passport or visa.

Why on Earth didn't the US military stay to oversee the exodus of people who want to get out?

" Taliban stop planes of evacuees from leaving but unclear why..."

I think it's clear why. It's just the beginning of terror.

The Taliban are imposing their strict version of the Sharia law. Killing people and breaking their words by the minute. How could Trump have ever thought he could trust them?

VFR in daylight only because of no radar. Shakes head, guess they are afraid to fly at night. As for the Taliban, it is their country again. The USA in the end could not get rid of them. Perhaps it is because the puppet US government was not supported by the people.

Here is an indication of the delay.

According to the Times of India, quoting a Pakistani newspaper, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, head of the ISI (Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence agency) is in the country to discuss with the Taliban, among other things, repatriation and transit of foreign nationals and Afghans fleeing Taliban rule. “The issue of pending requests from countries and international organisations for the repatriation /transit through Pakistan and the need to determine the mechanism through which Pakistan could allow in coordination with the ground authorities in Afghanistan will be discussed during the meeting with the Taliban officials,” it said.

Not suprising, says former Afghanistan vice-president Amrullah Saleh, who earlier told the DM that despite Pakistan’s claims to the contrary, the Taliban were being “micromanaged” by the ISI. “The Taliban's spokesperson receives directions, literally every hour, from the Pakistani embassy,” he said.

The article hints that this is but one sign of an intense power struggle that is currently being played out. Kind of like, "who's on first, what's on second," only emphasized by heavy arms, extreme world views, and many casualities.

You misspelled Democrats. I believe you meant to say "Democrats simply cannot stop themselves from spreading misinformation." Happy to provide hundreds of videos, not written hearsay as MSM does.

Don't' let your hatred of President Trump blind you from reality. I don't like the guy but I also have ears and eyes. If you do not have freedom of movement that does not involve legal issues, you are being held hostage. Just waiting for the conditions of release.

Stop with the Trump blaming. He is no longer Commander and Chief. Joe is calling the shots! He has the power to extend/cancel anything and everything Trump did. We all saw that from January 20th.

I guess it is easier to blame than take responsibility. Joe abandoned my fellow military personnel and civilians. Plan and simple.

Driving or walking out also won't be a picnic. According to the Met, a suicide attack on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border today killed at the least three and injured 20. Supposedly, the bombing was carried out by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which shares a name with the Afghan Taliban but is reportedly a separate group. The paper dryly points out that the "global Islamist movement is highly splintered between different organisations which are regularly willing to fight and kill one another."

The article quoted a Republican mouthing off in a manner that contradicted people on the ground.

You claim to have links showing there were American passengers amongst passengers being held in the planes, yet you provide no links. Wonder why.

Don't' let your hatred of President Trump blind you from reality. I don't like the guy but I also have ears and eyes. If you do not have freedom of movement that does not involve legal issues, you are being held hostage. Just waiting for the conditions of release.

You’ve changed the goalposts from “there are you people, including Americans, in planes the Taliban will not allow to take off or leave the plane” to “you’re a hostage if you can’t leave a country!”

Which point are you arguing. The former was the original point of contention, the latter is your deflection.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

In fact they make YOUR job, preventing all those terrorists, gang rapists and other severe criminals to spread all over the planet. You shouldn’t complain too much and only insist of those very few being let go who really have helped you there and can be trusted. But you need no plane for that number of people, maybe a small bus is more than sufficient.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Well its probably extremely difficult for those Afghans to obtain a passport right now and on short notice.

If they are evacuating as refugees they why do they need a passport anyway ?

And how many USA citizens were being held on the 6 plane's ?

Because it says America citizens but of course they mean USA citizens.

Or maybe they mean citizens from north America or central America or Latin America or south America ?

This type of situation i think a news article should make it clear exactly which citizens they are referring to .

And how many are allegedly being held hostage .

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Republicans are very creative people and are very good at fiction. I am sure our good friend here has created a story out of nothing.

Some might call it lying, but let’s be charitable to these fiction we!

I will continue to blame Trump for thinking he could make an art of the deal with the Taliban which led to the exit of the country. No military personnel were left behind. It was Trump who released 5,000 Taliban fighters.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

And Biden thinks people are just going to forget about all these Americans.

his chief of staff claiming they “don’t want to” leave now.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

The Republican says he was briefed on classified setting that Americans are on these planes.

biden spokesman responds:

Given these constraints, we also do not have a reliable means to confirm the basic details of charter flights, including who may be organizing them, the number of U.S. citizens and other priority groups on-board, the accuracy of the rest of the manifest, and where they plan to land, among many other issues," the spokesperson said.

sounds to me like the Republican is right and Biden knows nothing.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

No one thought the Taliban would so quickly sweep across the country without any resistance from the American trained and armed Afghan forces. No one was prepared for that.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

No one Zichi? Maybe not in the UK, But do US intelligence officials who had been warning --in July--the Biden administration of a quick Taliban takeover count?

You are absolutely correct. I totally agree with you. You finally see how bad Joe is at doing his job.

This would have never happened if Republicans were in charge. Never!

Because they want / need hostages

We should cut GPS service to Afghanistan,we control who use it,then no plane will be able to fly over Afghanistan airspace, Japanese we control GPS over Japan too,it can bring a halt to all of Japan train Google Japan GPS

there are multiple people with multiple private organizations now claiming that the Biden State Department is preventing them from rescuing American citizens.

Americans involved in private evacuation efforts tell Fox News that the State Department is the only reason their planes haven't left Afghanistan

Sir, I applaud your loyalty to the republican cause, there might not be a cause but loyalty is always commendable.

When the former honorable president negotiated a deal with the taliban, without involving the Afghan government and in fact keeping the American military out too, he set in motion the demoralization of Afghan forces which resulted in their quick surrender.

It's a different fact that the former president stopped the negotiations because the taliban would not nominate him for a Nobel. His single minded quest to get a Nobel, even at the cost of American lives, is totally incomparable.

"That individual suggested that the State Department's obstruction is motivated in part by embarrassment that private individuals are rescuing Americans that the U.S. government left behind.

Military command over Al Udeid Air Base in Doha, Qatar, have informed those seeking clearance to land that they must first go through the State Department to gain approval, an email reviewed by Fox News shows.

Clay has a manifest of 4,500 names of U.S. citizens, green card holders, SIVs and refugees trying to get state-side. So far, they've given the State Department 800 names for a first round of flights. Fox News has reviewed that manifest, which confirms Clay's account."

Ahh, fox is almost like a gospel channel, they have been accurate about so many things, the virus, vaccines etc etc I am surprised it's not broadcast on every street corner.

Clay has a manifest of 4,500 names of U.S. citizens,

And who might this Clay be dear sir, he sounds like a very honorable person and not the hypocrite and alternative facts promoter that everyone says he is???

What is there to wonder? They are vetting the refugees, according to their own criteria. Who is of interest to them, stays. Who they deem should go to the infidels, gets to go.

Btw, is anyone amazed at the number of "interpreters" that the US were employing there? Looks like most of the population were "interpreters".

An American intelligence report in June warned the Afghan government would collapse within six months to one year, of the American troop withdrawal. In reality, it happened before the withdrawal on Aug 31st.

There was a failure of American intelligence.

It's such a bizarre finding; of course a place like Afghanistan would descend into chaos immediately. They basically had no government and the Taliban is stronger than the military and biding its time for a takeover.

Taliban holds up planes, at least 100 Americans among passengers:

Don't remind people of the discomfiting saga of American hostages held up in Tehran in the 1970's after US ally The Shah stepped down and left.

Apparently Taliban is trying to play a similar game to belittle US..

First, we have this:

American citizens and Afghan interpreters were being kept on six planes.

Then:

...said it was four planes, and their intended passengers were staying at hotels while authorities worked out whether they might be able to leave the country.

Are the planes full or empty? Are the passengers at hotels or not? Are they “hostages” or are they waiting at hotels?

Sir, a very commendable opinion.

Except that the prize for the worst president in history belongs to the former president. He turned the pandemic into a disaster!

Not according to the vets, Gold star families and the recent polls.

Except that the prize for the worst president in history belongs to the former president.

Not after last week .

Not according to the vets, Gold star families and the recent polls.

You mean the vets love President Biden? Totally agree it’s that.

Not after last week .

Believe me sir, President Biden has saved thousands of lives by pulling the troops out.

The former guy, I have to say a gem of a person, always truthful and loyal, has cost the nation more than 500,000 lives.

It’ll take a long time before anyone equals his incompetence!

So you mean the vets don’t commend your comment?

I wouldn’t call it a stunt, just an uninformed opinion.

You mean there are thousands of Americans left in Afghanistan???? Do you have sources to prove that?
