Why on Earth didn't the US military stay to oversee the exodus of people who want to get out?

So a situation of American hostages....

...sounds like its gonna require the US military.

Here is an indication of the delay.

According to the Times of India, quoting a Pakistani newspaper, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, head of the ISI (Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence agency) is in the country to discuss with the Taliban, among other things, repatriation and transit of foreign nationals and Afghans fleeing Taliban rule. “The issue of pending requests from countries and international organisations for the repatriation /transit through Pakistan and the need to determine the mechanism through which Pakistan could allow in coordination with the ground authorities in Afghanistan will be discussed during the meeting with the Taliban officials,” it said.

Not suprising, says former Afghanistan vice-president Amrullah Saleh, who earlier told the DM that despite Pakistan’s claims to the contrary, the Taliban were being “micromanaged” by the ISI. “The Taliban's spokesperson receives directions, literally every hour, from the Pakistani embassy,” he said.

The article hints that this is but one sign of an intense power struggle that is currently being played out. Kind of like, "who's on first, what's on second," only emphasized by heavy arms, extreme world views, and many casualities.

Driving or walking out also won't be a picnic. According to the Met, a suicide attack on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border today killed at the least three and injured 20. Supposedly, the bombing was carried out by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which shares a name with the Afghan Taliban but is reportedly a separate group. The paper dryly points out that the "global Islamist movement is highly splintered between different organisations which are regularly willing to fight and kill one another."

An American intelligence report in June warned the Afghan government would collapse within six months to one year, of the American troop withdrawal. In reality, it happened before the withdrawal on Aug 31st.

It's such a bizarre finding; of course a place like Afghanistan would descend into chaos immediately. They basically had no government and the Taliban is stronger than the military and biding its time for a takeover.

When the former honorable president negotiated a deal with the taliban, without involving the Afghan government and in fact keeping the American military out too, he set in motion the demoralization of Afghan forces which resulted in their quick surrender.

It's a different fact that the former president stopped the negotiations because the taliban would not nominate him for a Nobel. His single minded quest to get a Nobel, even at the cost of American lives, is totally incomparable.

The Taliban are imposing their strict version of the Sharia law. Killing people and breaking their words by the minute. How could Trump have ever thought he could trust them?

Stop with the Trump blaming. He is no longer Commander and Chief. Joe is calling the shots! He has the power to extend/cancel anything and everything Trump did. We all saw that from January 20th.

If they are evacuating as refugees they why do they need a passport anyway ?

What is there to wonder? They are vetting the refugees, according to their own criteria. Who is of interest to them, stays. Who they deem should go to the infidels, gets to go.
