Actually Obama's tax cut last year will have to be paid back this year it was a tax deferment and it was about 30 bucks a paycheck. Taxes will have to skyrocket to pay for this absurd spending because lets face it the only thing the democrats will do to reduce the defeceit is to jack up spending 300% then announce a spending freeze.

The whole Tea Party thing is easily understood by considering the following - - 4 out of 5 Americans do not trust the government.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We could be witnessing the birth of a new and substantial policital party.

Yeh, but it should be called the "White WAR party," oh, add "White War but we ain't Paying for any of it" Party. Trillions for death and destruction but not a penny for any humane or constructive (especially as it relates to the poor or disabled) assistance. Same ole crap I have watched again and again from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and the last decade. Their ideas are like a broken record.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow, that's a pretty good description of the very government they helped create the last 10 years. I sure hope none of these people voted for Bush because that would sure be ironic.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Gangster" is well-chosen. Tea Party participants are older than the rap and hip-hop kiddies trying to make it (and just about any criticism) into a racial slur. The word holds a different meaning for Americans in their 50s and 60s. Obama and his inner circle are from Chicago, and Chicago was long associated with gangsterism; it was arguably the center of organized crime in America. The Daley Machine that helped create Obama had direct links to the Chicago underworld. There are books that detail these links.

gang★ = now you are cool and +

But it's also very telling about the tea partiers. They like to squeal that Obama is a liberal elite who thinks he's better them him while depicting him in a stereotypical blaxploitation role.

You know, it looks like your side might be racist if you automatically think "black" when you see the word gangster.

Time for you to do a little self-reflection...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So borderline racist by mentioning the word gangster

here the Left-wing go again... you're a racist if you disagree with them. LOL

sushisake - You really need to read the news about the health care plan. The actual cost has been estimated to be 3-6 trillion over the next 10 years. Even the CBO admits the 980million estimate is a sham.

You really are regurgitating the party line word for word, aren't you?

I would be very interested in hearing your opinion on estate taxes.

I think they're both good and bad. On the one hand I don't like this idea of taxing people, even after they die. I'm also strongly opposed to the whole redistribution of wealth that the tax is based off of. On the other hand I recognize the government needs funding, and where better then to tax the transfer of wealth from one generation to the next. However the current level its set at, is egregious. It means that even small businesses, are likely to have to be mortgaged or sold, if the heirs inherit suddenly. Its one thing to target estates worth billions, its quite another to drive companies out of business entirely because the heirs cannot pay the tax without the company being sold or broken up.

So, to sum up, both good and bad, even if the base motives for it are class envy.

People in the movement believe that government spending and influence should be limited. The movement’s name is taken from the Boston Tea Party, a 1773 protest in which activists in the then-British colonies in America boarded ships and threw their cargo of English tea into Boston Harbor in a symbolic act of protest against taxes

Too bad they can't be the same as the original one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So borderline racist by mentioning the word gangster." You must be too old. Gangster is a complement.

But it's also very telling about the tea partiers. They like to squeal that Obama is a liberal elite who thinks he's better them him while depicting him in a stereotypical blaxploitation role.

They can't even make up their mind if Obama is a pimp or a snobby elite so they squeal them simultaneously. Amazing.

These people represent the greatest failure in American education ever.

Lost in the rhetoric was that taxes have gone down under Obama. Congress has cut individuals’ federal taxes for this year by about $173 billion, leaving Americans with a lighter load despite nearly $29 billion in increases by states. Obama plans to increase taxes on the wealthy to help pay for his health care overhaul and other programs.

Interesting comment at the end of the article, and its actually true, at least partially. Of course he's ramped up taxes elsewhere to make up for it, and he is letting the Bush tax cuts expire which will mean an actual tax increase, but for this year at least, for most Americans, it is a tax cut. Next year though with the Bush cuts unfortunately expiring, this will no longer true. And of course the usual plan to tax those earning more money.

What really irritates me is this stupid phrase 'tax the wealthy'. Its nonsense. Wealth is not taxed. Income is taxed. So if you and your wife who despite having almost no money, suddenly start making a good living, you become 'wealthy' by definition, while those who truly are wealthy, with massive estates, are not being taxed, on anything except their income. Thus the common cry, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer.

reconciliation

I had to go look-up the method that the health care bill was passed through. It was so unfamiliar to me that I had to look it up again. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We have got to cut this gov down in size and we can not allow them to pass bills the way they have

I think you are going to see the states take back some of the power they have allowed the Federal Government to take. Sort of a more Pre-WWI type governance.

You are going to see many smaller highly active political groups come together for a cause to vote for a candidate instead of a political party. Same for states that want health care and those that do not = regional health care groups that will constantly change to the needs of the populace.

=Obama was right in principal, but wrong in action (maybe he was right after all). =Change is difficult, but without Obama people would not be thinking about change as they are now.

When you have a constitution you are allowed such thoughts it seems and change is indeed possible. This "change" will help everyone from the sweatshops in China making your iPad to the people that put food on your table. Sort of an European Socialism and rebuild of the cities, education and cities with less corruption (unjustified tax). A conservative socialism.

Old man smarts. That's a compliment. Doesn't exp[lain your statement that gangster is a compliment.

I wasn't even aware of the method of getting bills through congress with this method until the prior president shoved several through like that. Then when the republicans were pandering their lies and playing their game of "NO" with the health care issue, I determined that if it was so proper for the republicans, then it must be alright. But then I heard the republicans whining like little school girls about using the same method they did. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Explain how it was any different with the RX drug plan, except that the health care bill was planned and paid for. The RX drug program was a totally unpaid mandate. It was passed under the same congressional rules. Don't recall you republicans complaining then. How come? < :-)"

Oh, you really got the old man smarts don't you??? You got me because I will tell you this, I was jsut a guy doing my biz and was not concerned what was going on. See you guys taught me to get politically involved. Forgive me, but I just didn't know. So, what can I do? ask for your forgiveness?

Oh, but wait, you post kind of leaves me to believe that you support such method of legislation......

It is clear that the use of gangster is to put color out there in a negative way" Not when you are from Chicago..... live there for a bit and you'll know that one. But you could be right, but peeps from Chicago do like to bounce that a lot.

sushi: ou've been coming on strong in the last few days. Clearly noticeable. :-) Is there something behind it?" Well, aren't we playing kissy? Maybe he's running for office and I will cast my vote for him if I can - adversary or not. Its just the right thing to do.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

aday, you've been coming on strong in the last few days. Clearly noticeable. :-) Is there something behind it?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It is clear that the use of gangster is to put color out there in a negative way and on key, picked up by like minded people to joke about, whilst feigning compliments.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

skipthesong,

Its was just the wrong way to do it.

Explain how it was any different with the RX drug plan, except that the health care bill was planned and paid for. The RX drug program was a totally unpaid mandate.

It was passed under the same congressional rules. Don't recall you republicans complaining then. How come? < :-)

badsey: You know what, I really wish there was something lke the tea party before Obama got elected. I really do. That would make things go over a lot smoother. However since that is not how it happened and so like my brother so be it. We have got to cut this gov down in size and we can not allow them to pass bills the way they have on this health care. Its was just the wrong way to do it. and that is not a swipe at having a more affordable health care.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Also don't like some of the thinly disguised racism being thrown around about Obama - handlers, below his pay grade, etc.

At this level of Gov and beyond you have "handlers" -it was like this when JFK and even Eisenhower was in office. I believe the Presidental position is underpaid and under-appreciated.

I have nothing against Obama personally. -Has a weakness going to the right side and carries the ball a little too high. I sort of like the guy actually, but he seriously needs to think about giving up his smoking habit -but with all the pressure he is under it is hard breaking those type of habits and finding something else to relax to.

=This is really not about Obama, nor is it about G.W. Bush -it is about the people above that. Their crisis situations coming into their Presidencies are eerily similiar also.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

skipthesong, Gangster is a complement? Please explain how gangster can be defined as a compliment. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

skipthesong, I never said a word about him being all surprised and he wasn't aware. He was surely aware.

What's apparent is that the republicans forget that it was created before he got in the WH. He could have done absolutely nothing, then the republicans would be whining that he didn't do what was in his power to help, but only exasperated the problem. But because he did react, he's blamed for it.

Damned if he did and damned if he didn't do anything. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So borderline racist by mentioning the word gangster." You must be too old. Gangster is a complement.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama has only reacted to what was in process when he took office." Well, it's not like he didn't know what he was getting into. At least I hope its not. I'm quite sure he can take it like a man. You should too.

sushi, you are not looking it from the correct angle.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

skipthesong, I don't forget the democrats that were a part of the bailouts. It's apparent though that the republicans forget that this was allowed to get to this point under the republican president and the bailouts were started under the republican administration. But you never hear that, it's all Obama's fault. Obama has only reacted to what was in process when he took office.

< :-)

The tea partiers are raging on about how the healthcare bill will make the deficit explode. The healthcare bill is only about $96 billion a year. What are the tea partiers talking about??? Seeing cluelessness and misinformation like this is a bad sign.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Also don't like some of the thinly disguised racism being thrown around about Obama - handlers, below his pay grade, etc. This is the 21st century, not the 18th. Racism shows the speaker is just gutless, ignorant and has serious issues. skip, I'm not talking about you.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

skip, you're dead right, more parties would of course bring more ideas and diversity. Politics and politicians now are exhausted. But I just don't see any serious 3rd party emerging any time soon. Also agree get rid of Reid and Pelosi. Palin - not a chance. The GOP doesn't have anyone who inspires at the moment. There's just too much anger there, a lot of it unneccesary and based on incredible hypocrisy. But they're pretty much all hypocrites now. So, yeah, a better system would be great.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

manfromamerica - the 7 trillion dollar healthcare fiasco? Hey, are you ok? It's $980-odd billion spread over a decade. It's about $96 bil a year. Bargain basement. You're $6 trillion off the mark.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

badsey - good post! the people are fed up with the politicians.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

the us is not going to survive with 2 parties in power constantly trying to please their bases. as a matter of fact they should have a base once they are elected. Bush did and now O's doing it. No, we need a slew of parties and let decisions be made at the local. If you don't like the local's position on things, move out.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I really think this Government is gonna flip (sorry Dem and Rep Libs). People are upset and feel that their constitutional rights are being taken away and even worse is the elected government does not listen to the populace. The criminals are in power and have been for some time. Obama is right and change is needed.

The Federal Reserve "issue" is a great start. The criminals should be held accountable -that is all the populace wants and would be the responsible thing to do.

The politicians still don't get it = Obama could have had his own party and still won, but his "handlers" would have forbidden that.. -Even Palin could win now and with all the media attacks she has taken -she is sort of a favorite + a woman.

Look how Japan flipped. -And finally things are starting to get done and seriously looked at.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

All in all, if these tea parties can put repubs and dems in their place, they're ok with me. I'm not gonna be afraid rolling up on a bunch of anglos who are mostly from Blue collar jobs where is many lefties here with their rich white parents probably wouldn't tell their parents they have a friend like me.

Right on!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hey, I'm chatting with my friends from Queens - there's a tea party there now and guess what, he's Puerto Rican. OMG....

Better call out CNN!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The Tea Part is right on the mark to blast this 7 trillion dollar health care fiasco that the neocommunists forced on the American people. The Left can't even say that Americans support it, because polls show Obamacare is decidedly UNpopular.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sushi: "Skip, there's not much need for the Dems to do much. The GOP can competantly implode all by itself." Well, that would defeat what I want, I want more parties, you know a diversity of ideas and people. Not just old white guys from poor towns and rich white libs who live on the upper west side, you know the kind that never step foot barrios.

Hey, I'm chatting with my friends from Queens - there's a tea party there now and guess what, he's Puerto Rican. OMG....

"Obama plans to increase taxes on the wealthy"

Oh, that'll fix everything, LOL! What a clueless president we have...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Brown won the seat that had been held by the late Sen Edward Kennedy, a Democrat, for decades"

What's up with that?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's just down right racism and hate." It could be the start of it. However, it doesn't mean there wrong. Its like when I get pulled over at home and I tell white cop "what, you think I'm an illegal" and he says yup, you're speeding. So, my point is I was in the wrong and the cop, possible jealous of my Latin good looks, was in fact right. As for "not backwards rural America." Well, there are whole lot of white faces from that "we-want-to-be-part-of-America place north of us that are from the most rural country in the western hemisphere on this board and in addition, my brother still lives in Chicago. Now, I'm with my brother on this - get rid of Nancy and Harry and keep Obama. Get rid of Obama's unionists and we can all get along. Besides, if Bush passed something good, you don't think the lefties here would not go about it would be doing the same?

All in all, if these tea parties can put repubs and dems in their place, they're ok with me. I'm not gonna be afraid rolling up on a bunch of anglos who are mostly from Blue collar jobs where is many lefties here with their rich white parents probably wouldn't tell their parents they have a friend like me.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A lot of what the Tea Party is about is their definite hate for Obama. It's just down right racism and hate. Another thing, they stole the name. The Tea Party happened in Boston, not backwards rural America.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Skip, there's not much need for the Dems to do much. The GOP can competantly implode all by itself.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think the GOP is getting a bit complacent in thinking the tea party is down with them. My brother's sure has a hate on for them and he's now a proud member of Illinois Hispanic Tea Party.

So you GOP haters, maybe you guys and Obama should take a different approach to them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If the tea party becomes an independant party, there's going to be a wholesale GOP bloodbath. Even if not, the GOP is in for yet another almighty pounding when voters realize the GOP has absolutely NOTHING to offer except angry vitriol.

All good. :-)

Roll on November!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

aday. I will debate you only on #5, but first let me say, I've always been kind of antiNASA. I personally feel we should explore our oceans and our jungles first. There are still a lot of things we don't know and any space exploration should be given over to the private sector.

now, on to #5. Why do you always leave out the dems that were involved? Why? Don't forget, I remember this board at the time, if Bush didn't give them, you and others here would have cried and since they were given out, you cry.

I would have let them fail and Dodd would have gone home with nothing.

Look, I think we are paying way too much, and I thought that before. I just kept my mouth shut then. If I did voice my opinion on that, I would get "hey, look what this country or that country pays, so quit crying". What do we really get for the amount we pay into it. I want a smaller gov that costs less. If adding in a third party does that, or even a fourth or fifth, then fine with me. Funny, but I though libs wanted a military cut down in size. What happened?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In reply to the above post.

1st thing, talk about a gangster government? We watched the prior administration invaded a country (Iraq) that was no immediate threat to us, based on lies.

2nd thing, most of Obama's 5.5 million came from the sell of his books. He also donated his $1.3 million from the Nobel Peace Price along with another $329K to charity.

3rd thing, remember way back when the last president was all hyped up on NASA, he said we were going to Mars. That was good then, but it's not when Obama says it?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,107807,00.html http://www.space.com/news/bush_science_040114.html

4th thing, the debt and deficit will continue to go up until taxes are increased.

5th thing, somebody forgets that the bailout was rammed through by the last administration and initiated the stimulus, good with him, bad with Obama?

Sounds like republicans and Tea Party Patriots whining again. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

To the extent that the Tea Party Movement is a spontaneous, truly populist phenomenon, anyone on here trying to analyze and describe it in the tired old neo-Marxist rubric of 'race' and 'race relations in America' is telling us more about him/herself than anything else.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Now as far as 'tea-partiers' greenlighting the Iraq war. Give me a break many of them hated this decision but he rang the bell and put our troops in harms way. You are confusing support for American troops placed into battle and tasked with winning as political support for a cause that many wished we hadn't undertaken but will be darned if they would ever publicly abandoned our troops and the mission they were tasked with. Tea partiers grew up also in the post Vietnam and they saw and know what happens when the homefront turns agaisnt the troops mission in far away lands....They get spit on in airports when they returned back home. The tea-partiers would never ever do that in a million years to our troops no matter if they agree or disagree with the mission assigned them by the C.O.C be it Clinton, Bush or even Obama and his Afghan initiative going on right now.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Listen up. Here's the whacked out thing about the tea party people. They are using the healthcare bill as a springboard to show their anger about high deficits. The tea partiers are attacking the healthcare bill as being an 'attack on our freedoms!' and against their ideology, etc. Then they slam the exploding deficits. And many of the people doing so are folks who greenligted the Iraq war. All $2-3 trillion of it. Again, an eye-watering lack of accountability. And just wait until the tea party mouement gets into bed with the GOP...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sail, that is a bizarre argument to make. It's like saying why didn't the GOP put up a black candidate to face off against Obama. Just a bizarre thing to say.

Man, If the 2008 election was between a pretty moderate Republican like Colin Powell and this very left Democrat Obama, now that would have been a damn interesting election! It also would have been one heck of a rebuke to the Bushies.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

SushiSake3,

"if you voted GOP and backed the wars, quit moaning about massive deficits - you're behind them. You, RomeoRamen, Sarge, etc. are all the same: voting to flip away $2-3 trillion on a useless war is cool, but when the opposition passes a bargain basement $200 bil/year health bill aimed at aiding Americans, suddenly the sky is falling."

Well said. You've pretty much summed up my feelings regarding "conservative" (coff! coff!) complaints about a ballooning deficit.

I think TimBorder is on to something, too. There's something to the news that some Tea Party members are avoiding official connections with the GOP with as much vigor as they've been pouring into criticisms of Democrats.

We could be witnessing the birth of a new and substantial policital party.

But then again, when the face of that party seems to be predominantly white, it isn't necessarily a cause for celebration in a nation as multicultural as the U.S. But it is something to consider.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Democrat politicians aren't 'retiring' in unprecedented number and fashion because of Iraq or Afghanstan (which they overwhelmingly supported - and funded).

No, they are 'retiring' because of Obamacare and what the Tea Party movement signifies.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

aday, thanks for pointing out the bailouts. bush rammed the first costly bailout down Americans' throats - all $680 billion of it. The difference with Obama is that bush gave it all away without demanding payback or accountability - which is a hallmark of most U.S. conservatives - just refuse to man up and be held accountable for their actions. The tea partiers will be held to the same standard.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wolfpack - 'Obamacare is simply killing the country.' Oh, cry me a river and pass me a tissue. Where were you when in the debate about the launch of the massively costly Iraq war? Hollering for the start gun, no doubt. The same goes for the tea party people - if you voted GOP and backed the wars, quit moaning about massive deficits - you're behind them. You, RomeoRamen, Sarge, etc. are all the same: voting to flip away $2-3 trillion on a useless war is cool, but when the opposition passes a bargain basement $200 bil/year health bill aimed at aiding Americans, suddenly the sky is falling. No wonder conservatives have turned themselves into an international laughingstock.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sail, that is a bizarre argument to make. It's like saying why didn't the GOP put up a black candidate to face off against Obama. Just a bizarre thing to say.

Sushi,

When will ever acknowledge that the Democrats did not put a fiscal conservative to run agaisnt George Bush in 2004 so his support from the fiscal conservative right was tepid at best but he was the best of the two bad choices that year for them?

John Kerry wasn't exactly the guy you want to put up from the Democratic side to appeal to fiscal conservatives and moderates.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wolfpack, you can go on all you like about big deficits, but are you ever going to own up to the fact that your votes are behind them? If so, you may well be the first conservative on JT who has ever shown accountability. To solve a problem, you've got to acknoledge it exists (you have, well done) and then face reality if you are/were a part of the problem (you haven't).

When the cameras scanned across the attending audience, did you notice something odd? All white!

Did you notice the Demographics of the Tea Party members?

Tea Party All U.S Adults

White 79% 75%

Black 6% 11%

Other 15% 15%

The camera captured mainstream America and guess what thats pretty much...All white.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/127181/Tea-Partiers-Fairly-Mainstream-Demographics.aspx#1

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The Tea Party is a leaderless grassroots organization that is genuinely upset by the direction of America. I think a lot of them are conservatives who have quit the Republican party or at least alienated from it - as am I. The deficit and debt are a threat to the country like no other since WWII. The huge bailouts given to large companies, the huge pork "stimulus" bill, and now ObamaCare is simply killing the country. We used to be upset when we had a yearly federal deficit of $300 billion. Now the yearly debt is $1.7 trillion - and will remain over a trillion for as far as the eye can see. This is a disaster and it is no wonder that people are upset. American's are right to be upset with a with a federal government that this incompetent.

By the way, the Tea Party aren't a bunch of idiots as portrayed by the media. Even a NY Times/CBS News poll has found that most are more educated than the general public.

Any chance of any serious comments, or is everybody just going split along party lines as usual?

Just out of interest, I found it interesting that some of these groups are not happy with being preached to by the Republican old guard (the reference made to Tommy Thompson. So what does this mean? Are there a core of people who are dissatisfied with Obama who are not your typical Rush Limbaugh-types? Would be interested to here your comments.

When the cameras scanned across the attending audience, did you notice something odd? All white!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Egalityranny, I'm struggling to find any part of your last post that even vaguely reflects reality. 1/ Net incomes have fallen not due to Obama's stimulus package but due to the GWB Global Recession that booted 7 million Americans out of work and squeezed wages. 2/ Obama has earned a lot of his income - in fact the bulk, I believe - because he is (shock, horror) author of a fairly popular set of books. Unfortunately, bush could not be described as a literary genius. Unless, of course, you believe Sarah Palin is presidential material, in which case you'll probably still be thinking Saddam hid the WMD.

And 3/ the only bloodbath coming is GOP MeltdownII when Americans realize that the GOP's brand of rhetoric-fuelled fear, scare tactics and warnings of 'Armageddon' aren't actually campaign planks.

But, go Sarah Palin! :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Net incomes in America have fallen 3 percent across the board since Obama rammed through his non-stimulus bill, which we have since learned was money awarded disproportionately to districts which voted Democrat, a trick his Chicago mentors liked to use.

The Obamas, however, raked in a whopping 5.5 millions dollars in 2009.

GW Bush and his wife never made more than a million/year, contrary to all the conspiracy babble about him only enriching himself and his cronies.

If the media elites think ordinary Americans won't notice this I think the mid-terms are going to be a bloodbath.

And so I was delighted to see that though more than 10 000 people, even by AP count, showed up in deep blue Boston for one of the many Tea Parties across our great nation, the mainstream media is still trying their best to marginalize the whole phenomenon.

I hope they continue with the charades. It hurts only them and their Democrat cocoon-mates.

This article made me wonder...are all these tea party people who are complaining about big government spending watching their own spending habits? A cursory look at facts: 0% savings rate average and credit cards maxed out to the hilt - says the answer is no. Why don't these people tidy up their own game before bashing anyone else for the same offence? Or has personal responsibility in America gone the same way as the American Dream - down the toilet?

Anyway, America - no, the world - can look forward to a brighter and debt-free America should Sarah Palin be elected president.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Taxes may have gone down but the deficit is way up as is spending. Now he wants to go to Mars...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The Tea Party members are some pretty smart folks. They know the direction this administration is going as far as their future tax bill is going to be. And the excerpt from the article doesn't even account for what Obamacare is going to cost us on top of this.

Obama, who promised during his White House campaign to roll back tax cuts on people earning more than $250,000, also plans to boost tax collections from about 16 percent of the economy this year to 19 percent in 2013, the official said, confirming a Washington Post report on Obama's budget proposals for the 2010 fiscal year.
