The headline is complete rubbish. Any tension was localized and completely drummed up by media who seem to be off on their own crusade.

Since the iwi (tribes) started settling with the Crown under Treaty obligations since the 1990s and early 2000s, the combined wealth of the richest few iwi has reached almost 6 billion dollars, and 9 billion with all 75 or so included.

Good for them I say, some sound investments (and some missteps - ahem Warriors). However, I do wonder why Maori achieve lower outcomes in areas such as education, crime, health, poverty, suicide, smoking, faring worse than Pacific Islanders, Asians etc.

All parties have responsibilities of course, but as for 'honouring the treaty,' well, the tribes have certainly benefited financially from it.
