Texas already has the most stringent voter requirements in the nation. Requirements that by design are meant to suppress black and brown votes. Tell me, how is voter security “enhanced” by forbidding AM voting on Sunday?

It’s not because the Sunday “Souls to the polls” campaign in African American communities strikes fear in the GOP white mens’ hearts, is it?

There was zero election fraud, none, nada, zilch, zip. This is a solution in search of a problem. Unless the problem is that when people vote, Republicans lose.

None of these very "necessary" restrictions would have happened if Trump had won reelection. Sore losers just dishonestly and openly rigging the system in their own favor. Shameful, disgusting, pathetic. The only words that can describe the modern GP.

This’ll mobilise communities to vote. It’ll backfire and after losing bigly again there’ll be no more excuses.

Who am I kidding, of course there’ll be more excuses.

“It is a suppression of our constitutional rights,” Tate said.

Take it to court.

Republicans made clear they intended to advance a new election bill — which would prohibit 24-hour polling places, ban drop boxes and stop drive-thru voting

Sounds like legitimate procedures. These measure would apply to all voters, so there is no discrimination.

Texas is among several states with GOP-controlled statehouses where Republicans have rushed to enact strict voting laws in response to former President Donald Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

Who decided the claims are false? The authors of this article?

Who decided the claims are false? The authors of this article?

The courts, the States, and the electoral officials. Trump is a liar.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Really? I would like to see a direct quote from a court reading, "the 2020 election was not stolen from Trump."

Got one?

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

How are any of these measures racist? Does it say, "only white folks can vote on Sunday mornings, but black folks cannot'? The true racists are the ones who say that minority voters are unable to follow simple and easy steps to vote.

These seem like reasonable steps that many/most other advanced countries in the world follow.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Who decided the claims are false? The authors of this article?

Everybody, except a few loons still clinging onto the shreds of a sad little dream long dead.

don’t worry, Comatose, the brief is loaded up and ready to go. Unlike the Political world, the judiciary still requires evidence, logic and precedent; something your side lacks as evidenced by your 60 (and counting) losses at various levels of state and federal courts.

I know you’ll claim this isn’t the quote you’re asking for, but substantively it is exactly the same:

I'm not claiming--that language from a blue state court is not what I was asking for.

kurumazakaToday  08:44 am JST

Yup, and John Calhoun was a Democrat! See, dems love slavery and the klan!! party of Lincoln, baby!

Harris County. 2 drop boxes for metro Houston. Nothing else ever needs to be said about the Texas GOP’s intent.

your side’s blatant disingenuousness is nauseating.

Whose side?

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

"Voters rights" are only important in the context that Texas democrats look at voter restrictions and immigration restrictions in the same light since overturning these policies aligns with what the larger Democrat machine has stated repeatedly of their goal is to make Texas a blue state at any cost. Why is anyone here surprised that the majority of Texans are not ok with this?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Only As exceptions due to COVID. That were not passed into law in the legislature as required.

none of these special rules were intended to become permanent. If so, pass a law and go to court to defend it.

Given we had these things during the last election

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

The Supreme Court has already found the GOP voting approach to be Constitutional in the Arizona case.

don’t like it, take it up with them.

Should it be taken up with them hundreds and hundreds of times like your false election fraud claims?

Biden voter. in Texas. Liberals claim the “process” should not have allowed him to register or vote as an excuse for his illegal vote.

this law will prevent such fraud.

Heh, one fraudulent vote in 150 million, and you guys want to change the voting rules.

Typical.

Because Rogers voted before his parole was scheduled to end, he was likely ineligible to cast a ballot on Election Day, despite being registered to vote, said a spokesperson with the Harris County Attorney's Office last year.

Dems fighting Dems again!

StrangerlandToday  09:26 am JST

Heh, one fraudulent vote in 150 million, and you guys want to change the voting rules.

Typical.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

it simply was NOT the most secure election in history as an ineligible voter was allowed to not only register but vote. then in response liberals say its the fault of the system and the law.

Ok, so lets fix the system and the law to prevent this from happening again?

"NO! thats racist!"

So did this person ever vote before 2020 while ineligible?

If yes, supports fixing an obvious broken system.

if no, then every election but the special COVID rules one of 2020 was more secure.

One? here is another

https://edition.cnn.com/2019/09/10/us/texas-woman-ineligible-voting-appeal/index.html

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Yep, just more proof that is was NOT the most secure election in history.

Both sides had illegal voters. So obviously laws, voter roles, voter ID need to be strengthened to prevent such things.

Something must be done to stop this rampant republican voter fraud.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Fraud:

Biden voter. in Texas. Liberals claim the “process” should not have allowed him to register or vote as an excuse for his illegal vote.

this law will prevent such fraud.

Hmmmm....then why is the Repub sponsor of this bill admitting that he isn't aware of any fraud?

*Republican lawmakers were forced to admit they have not seen any evidence of widespread election fraud during a Saturday showdown in the Texas State House over restrictive “election integrity” measures being taken up in a special session called by Gov. Greg Abbott. In the Senate hearing on Saturday, GOP Sen. Bryan Hughes, committee chair and author of S.B. 1, admitted to Sen. Royce West, a Democrat, that Republicans had not done, nor were they aware of, any studies analyzing the disparate impacts of voting restrictions on people of color. **Hughes was unable to provide examples of any fraud associated with drive-through voting. He was also at a loss when asked about voter fraud linked to ballot dropboxes,*

https://www.yahoo.com/news/gop-pols-forced-admit-big-210203116.html

Wanna explain that to us?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

but you agree with it and often gleefully quote this falsehood from "Trump" officials.

Take it up with Trump’s people:

“The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history.”

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

In Texas...

You can carry an AR15 or a .45 without any permit or training...

Yet to vote, you have to show a passport, birth certificate, driver's license, AND a copy of the Art of the Deal...

In the future, the Repubs want to restrict voting to just those wearing a tin-foil-lined red MAGA cap or a fur hat and horns...

5 ( +5 / -0 )

it simply was NOT the most secure election in history

Yes it was. That statement doesn't mean that there was absolutely no fraud whatsoever. Frauds or attempts at frauds always exist in all elections. But in numbers that are so infinitesimal that they have no incidence on the overall result of the election, and certainly do not require to make it harder for people to vote (not "to fraud", but only to vote). Using the very few cases of fraud to imply that there is some sort of systemic problem is about as inane as using the about 1% of vaccinated people infected by Covid to claim that vaccines don't work at all.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

arent you the "zero. zilch. nada" election fraud guy? or is that the other guy?

That statement doesn't mean that there was absolutely no fraud whatsoever.

Ok so now we are getting somewhere. How much fraud is "ok" in our elections?

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Republicans made clear they intended to advance a new election bill — which would prohibit 24-hour polling places, ban drop boxes and stop drive-thru voting

These measures would apply to Dems and Republicans. Nothing in the laws say anything about race, do they? These measures seem very reasonable.

P. SmithToday  09:54 am JST

You Trump conservatives are afraid of everything, and never have actual evidence supporting your fear.

What are you Hillary/Obama/Biden/AOC liberals afraid of?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

150 million votes. if even 0.1% fraud thats 150,000 votes, you know this right?

More than 490,000 Texans were on probation or parole in 2017.

so how about the other 489,999 people in Texas who are the same as the person caught illegally voting. Wonder if they voted too? why dont we create a process where they CANT vote to prevent this?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

It doesn't matter how much the Repubs in Texas try to rig the election through voter suppression...

The CPAC straw poll just showed Trump winning by a large margin - that couldn't be better news for the Dems...

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/07/11/politics/cpac-trump-speech-straw-poll/index.html

Repubs will re-nominate a twice-impeached retiree in Florida whose company is under criminal investigation and CFO indicted for fraud - and who will soon be indicted himself. And as the House select committee will show, actively incited the MAGA-mob that stormed the Capitol in a failed insurrection.

Go for it Repubs - just like in 2020, show us again how much you enjoy losing...

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Never? I just gave you an illegal Biden voter in this thread.

There are nearly 500,000 people in the same situation as him. Why would I think no one else voted same as him?

never have actual evidence supporting your fear.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

AFTER he voted and 7 months AFTER the election.

why dont we prevent him from voting in the first place?

Liberals are claiming its not his fault, the "process" allowed him to vote so he cant be held accountable for voting. so lets fix that process. or do we need to "catch" thousands more after the fact? what if we "catch" enough to change a state results? like lets say an audit in AZ or PA. then what?

Cant have it both ways.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

arent you the "zero. zilch. nada" election fraud guy?

Nope, I'm the "please provide proof of massive fraud in the last election" guy. Still waiting, by the way.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

"strict voting laws"

This article calls the proposed laws strict; hmm, so, the current laws are not strict.

Time to tighten 'em up.

These laws affect everyone equally. No one has given evidence otherwise.

P. SmithToday  10:08 am JST

Your fear is widespread voter fraud; you haven’t given any evidence of this.

Voting fraud in an election--between Democrats!!!!

https://legalinsurrection.com/2020/09/massachusetts-thousands-of-mail-in-ballots-found-days-after-the-election/

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

can let other people talk from now on.

Liberals are so confident in all this because you know if any fraud IS found- this will happen.

well, it wasnt significant, then wasnt widespread. then didnt change election results, then "who cares"?

When any widespread fraud comes out, the liberal media wont report it, social media will block and ban it, no judge will agree to hear it.

Do you really think any judge will put their family or home at risk for Donald Trump? nope.

So 2022 election is the way to correct all this.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

P. SmithToday  10:20 am JST

And l, nobody has given evidence of an actual need for any of these laws.

Texas Republican sure have--which is why the article says Republicans made clear they intended to advance a new election bill.

They want to prevent things like the below:

Two Democrats Indicted on Voter Fraud Charges After Using Mail-in Ballots to Steal Election

https://newspunch.com/two-democrats-indicted-on-voter-fraud-charges-after-using-mail-in-ballots-to-steal-election/

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

So 2022 election is the way to correct all this.

Ok. And you’ll accept the result?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Repubs want to enact voter suppression laws because they HOPE fraud may have occurred...

Yet they failed and lost in court 62 times trying to prove that...

Numerous Trump lawyers, to include Giuliani, were forced to admit in court that "this is not a fraud case"....

https://time.com/5914377/donald-trump-no-evidence-fraud/

Repub red state Secretaries of State have consistently stated there is no fraud...

Trump toady Bill Barr said "no evidence of wide-spread fraud"...

The Texas Repub Congressman who is the sponsor of this Texas bill has admitted he has no examples of fraud...

So, it seems voter fraud has about as much basis in fact as Jewish-funded space lasers cause forest fires...

Which reminds me, why aren't the Repubs investigating this? These lasers have caused hundred of deaths and millions in property losses - how come we aren't seeing any Repub-sponsored laws outlawing space lasers?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Blacklabel, still waiting on proof of widespread and massive voter fraud. Please provide.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

who says fraud needs to be widespread or massive?

thats just the sound of the goalposts moving again. as I already predicted above.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Republicans made clear they intended to advance a new election bill

Anyone have evidence that this law discriminates or is racist?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

27 more cases. how many do you need?

https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-wisconsin-election-2020-government-and-politics-daa3ac227c936d7fc038996af6e27cbe

More than half of the total cases, 16 of 27, were people in the city of La Crosse whose registered address was at a UPS Store.

Of the 11 other cases: four people voted both in person and absentee; one was a convicted felon; one was an absentee ballot returned by the son of the person who requested it and who voted in person; three people voted in two places; one person returned two absentee ballots; and one person who had been adjudicated incompetent and wasn’t allowed to cast a ballot.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

For those who find the Texas proposal too restrictive, what do YOU think should be the rules around issues like voter id, polling station hours/locations, etc.?

For me, I would cancel all forms of non in-person voting with very few exceptions. For example, medical necessity, being out of the district, etc. And require ID to both register and to vote. Keeps it fair for everyone. Same rules for all.

Oh, and also make election day a national holiday. Those who have to work anyway can do early voting. Again, in person.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

35 more cases just in Georgia. Thousands of fraudulent votes/registrations involved.

Non citizens voting, voting under another name, felons voting. improper handling of memory card with 2,760 votes on it by an election official.

https://sos.ga.gov/index.php/elections/state_election_board_refers_voter_fraud_cases_for_prosecution

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

27 more cases. how many do you need?

About 4 million.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

so we have officially proceeded to stage 4, who cares already, that was quick.

No need for 4 million as 40,000 votes in the 4 swing states was the only difference in the results.

so enjoy your "who cares" afternoon!

that sure changed from zero.zilch.nada and "just 1" morning really fast didnt it?

well, it wasnt significant, then wasnt widespread. then didnt change election results, then "who cares"?

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

It’s a big barrel with not so many fish left. You should be swimming faster.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Also, people quickly forget that the 2016 federal election losing candidate was STILL calling the winning candidate "an illegitimate president" fully 3 YEARS after the election was over. So let's please stop with the "GOP are sore losers" angle.
