Actually, Bachman's husband has a clinic that accepts the money of tax payers

Bachmann has reported income of around $50k from a family "farm" that receives over $250,000 in government subsidies. The Bachmanns are on the government teat big time -- while preaching against government handouts for others.

certainly not the God of Abraham.

Dunno about that, the last time I read the Old Testament I recall God was smiting a lot of people whose sexual behavior displeased Him, turning them into pillars of salt, etc. Fortunately neither Abraham nor Issac nor Jacob were candidates in Iowa's Straw Poll.

1 ( +2 / -2 )

"The NOI support Obama.

Double standard?"

No. Obama doesn't endorse or support the NOI, but Perry supports the AFA.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

So it looks like it's going to be Romney.

Bachmann just seems like the garden variety religious nutjob. It's not surprising when people like her "take the lead" when they have churches working behind her. Probably very organized and able to get some early votes, but getting into bed with that camp puts a ceiling on how high you can climb. Over time she'll fade as people other than religions zealots take to the polls.

The good thing is that she might be able to steal some thunder from Palin, making her even more irrelevant.

Do you know one of the reasons the GOP lost the last election,

The last election was in 2010. Dems suffered historic losses, particularly at state levels. You are as believable as sushisake.

Savage, like all too many on the Left, is consumed with hate and projects it wantonly.

Not accurate, in fact on Maher that night Savage claimed that: "I want to make some Santorum in Santorum" Now, for Savage that would be an act of love. Is that really so barbarian? Savage is a comedian amongst other things, and if you read his columns on a regular basis and have seen him in the past then you would know that he really has a love of people, and yes, he sometimes shoots out a sort of burning discharge at the right.

Oop's of course meant "Half of all job creation" not "have"...........Been a long weekend!

“In Iowa, we are social conservatives and we will never be ashamed of being social conservatives.”

Are these midwesterners not ashamed of attacking gay people and undermining basic human rights and dignities? What god do they serve, certainly not the God of Abraham.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

the last time I read the Old Testament I recall God was smiting a lot of people whose sexual behavior displeased Him,

That is subject to debate. But you are right there are people like Perry and the American Family Association and leaders of the Christian Restoration Movement, who interpret old parables very selectively and conclude that their mission is persecute gay people, not feed the hungry or love their neighbor, but torture people, they hate people. And they call themselves christians?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Exactly what basic rights and human dignities are we talking about here? Quite a broad statement there....

The right for gay people to marry (opposed by Bachman).

And for dignity: telling a young person that their homosexual feelings makes them a "sinner" is very damaging. Actually, Bachman's husband has a clinic that accepts the money of tax payers and counsels people not to be gay. This practice has been condemned by official American medical practice organizations as it is harmful to the well-being of a person.

Her win makes sense partly because her social/fiscal conservative ideas draw similar concerns with some Iowans, although they are not Tea Party sympathizers. She gained an upper hand over Pawlenty after an ugly swipe contest with him. I also praise Iowans' sensible choice for saying no to Mitt Romney, who began to show his true colors as an evangelical libertarian by saying that "corporations are people."

I personally don't like Rick Perry at all due to his hypocritical politics on the state economy and education. His recent agenda on silent prayer at public school is another twist to distort religion for conservative politics.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Romney:

Following the death of Joseph Smith, Jr., Mormon leaders beginning with Brigham Young instituted a policy of excluding most people of black African descent (regardless of actual skin color) from Priesthood ordination and from participation in temple ceremonies. These practices continued in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) until September 30, 1978, when the highest bodies of church leadership lifted the ban after stating they had received a revelation.

Has anyone asked Romeny what it feels like to be a part of an officially racist organization?

The Moron church also was instrumental in Prop 8 in California, and continues to donate large amounts of money to deny gay people the right to marry.

me thinks she's worse than the sarah palin person, and i thought that was the lowest you can get. poor me, wrong again. just as the world gets more and more polarized along the superrich-superpoor axis, it seems to be doing the same thing along along the devolution-evolutionary axis.

When people start quoting the old testament, I actually wonder how many have ever read it. So many Christians think it is the jewish bible and it is not. It si quite different from the Tenak, which is the Jewish version.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Living your life by a fictional book is not a way for an adult to behave.

Again with the directions on living. And calling it a fictional book is not accurate. Many people believe that it reveals a greater truth through parables and metaphors. In fact, many people in the world take great comfort from the Bible, while others use it as a justification to colonize other countries. Of course there are many ways to understand the Bible.

Breitbart,

Nation of Islam is virulently anti-gay and is openly supremacist.

Yes, and I hope to not see them in a position of power. Many of the republican candidates are trying to drag religion into politics, and there is a principle at stake:

"...I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State." - Jefferson

America is in a lot of trouble and teh sooner they stop taking notice of religous nutjobs the better.

Amen brother.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Obama doesn't endorse or support the NOI, but Perry supports the AFA.

He doesn't exactly denounce them either. Obama is too cagey to declare where he stands in relation to the NOI. But his preacher and the church he was member of for 20 years praised NOI and the racist neo-segregationist Louis Farrakhan.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sarge: "Sure he does. Vice President Biden and Treasury Secretary Geithner have been giving him clues since the immaculation."

Do you know one of the reasons the GOP lost the last election, which you were very depressed about, was the whole propaganda thing? You need to let 'the chosen one' thing go, my friend.

Anyway, like I said before, the Dems will have no trouble being voted in again next year because the GOP believers are so fractured it's quite funny. You've got Old Testament Tea Party morons who make GWB look literate, and then more liberal conservatives fighting against them -- and all the while the GOP being the sole reason why the nation is sinking and the dollar is being downgraded.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Bachmann has not expressed any view on either smiting or pillars of salt, as far as I know.

She also has spoken out against Red Lobster, or other places that serve shellfish (shellfish being condemned as a vile food in the Old Testament by literal readings)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry, meant to say that Bachman has not -- or it hasn't been reported yet -- spoken out against shellfish consumption.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Breitbart,

As always I enjoy reading your comments. Your perspective is reflective of an ongoing dialogue in the country of expanding waistlines, and it is fair to point out that Savage, and left-leaning pundits fuel the right-wing's furnace. Bachman and Perry are both very savvy politicians and capitalize on the kind of sentiments that you express.

At the same time, right-wing pundits -- and there representatives -- could easily win the next election by taking a page out of Clinton's black book and embrace the middle. Maybe not completely, but can't you think of a more clever way to galvanize the right than dehumanizing people on the left?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I apologize to the English teachers reading this: I meant to say their representatives, not "there"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It si quite different from the Tenak, which is the Jewish version.

JapanGirl@, I think you mean "Tanakh." I googled "Tenak," and it directed me to a site for stomach medication.

Yes, and I hope to not see them in a position of power. Many of the republican candidates are trying to drag religion into politics, and there is a principle at stake:

This from the person dragging Romney's religion into the mix?

I've been looking over Governor Perry's record. Pretty darn impressive on the economic front. Have of all job creation in the entire nation during the past three years has been in Texas. It blows away anything President Obama has managed to accomplished. Unfortunately, he is also going to the full Palin treatment from the media if he gains real traction now that he is in. They are not going to promote his actual record and will start the dirt hunt. I hope he's ready for that and understands that the Media is not going to be his friend in anyway shape or form. I also think if he does start to catch fire based on his record in Texas the next couple of weeks, Palin will not make a run after all. His overall economic and tax policies along with regulation reform to promote job creation that he has implemented in Texas, pretty much mirrors her policies and positions and I think now that he is in the race she will not feel the need to throw her hat in the ring. I believe she will start working behind the scenes on throwing her support behind him.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I've been looking over Governor Perry's record. Pretty darn impressive on the economic front. Have of all job creation in the entire nation during the past three years has been in Texas.

It's too bad a brain couldn't have been applied to the analysis. The Texas legislature is in session once every two years and the governor of the state has quite limited powers by design. Next we'll hear from conservatives that Rick Perry was responsible for putting all that oil and gas underneath the state.

Three states that have been faring well throughout the recession are Texas, North Dakota and Wyoming -- and it's all because of rising energy prices.

It blows away anything President Obama has managed to accomplished.

Texas is one of the 50 states. Therefore, this could not be a situation of Perry vs. Obama because Perry's Texas accepted nearly $15 Billion in stimulus funds from the federal government. Obviously, it can be argued that the stimulus helped out there and it will just take more time for the less energy-rich states to catch up.

''[Pelosi] is committed to her global warming fanaticism to the point where she has said she has even said she is trying to save the planet. We all know that someone did that 2,000 years ago.''

LOL!! Bachmann said that?!

So not only is she completely ignorant about history; she doesn't even know the Bible she professes to believe in.

It was better when Republicans could trot out religious lunatics like James Watt. At least he was open and sincere when he said that there's no need to preserve nature or resources since The Lord was coming back soon. Today's breed are either completely stupid or are able to hide their satanic deviousness much better.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Today's breed are either completely stupid or are able to hide their satanic deviousness much better.

Its always sad when the libs try to hide their own stupidity, by repeating the nonsense that those who disagree with them are idiots and evil. Maybe they think that if they repeat it often enough, someone might actually believe their nonsense.

Ummm... can't you see the sarcasm in that statement? He's mocking you, and idiots like Bachmann, as well as Scientology to boot.

From what you've said, I gather you think that because Bachman is a woman, and conservative, then naturally she is somehow mentally impaired. Is this another sign of Palin derangement syndrome rearing its ugly head again?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is this another sign of palin derangement syndrome rearing its ugly head again?

I'm afraid so. No matter how stupid and incorrect her statements, she will have zealots defending her and attacking the truth...just like palin worshipers.

I laugh to see that Bachman's detractors, especially the ones not even eligible to vote in any election where she is a candidate, are infuriated by her rejection of their religion, multiculturalism:

''Not all cultures are equal.''

Bachman is absolutely correct on that one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The latest Gallup poll has Obama's approval rating at the lowest point of his presidency at 39%.

How is this possible? This can't be...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Breitbart,

Unless you lied to us, you've lived in Japan for two decades. Therefore, you are deeply familiar with at least two cultures, the one of your home country and the one of your adopted country.

Would you say that Japanese culture is the best or second best in the world?

Where can I see the official rankings?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

How is this possible? This can't be...

You seriously ask how a corrupt administration, one that is the most inept and incompetent ever is down to 39%? The man has eclipsed Carter as the worst President in American History. My question isn't why is it all the way down to 39%, but rather, why is it still so high?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I have not read a thing about the church of England about the riots or who they suppot in the next US race. Anyone?

Err, could you clarify the question?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Exactly what basic rights and human dignities are we talking about here? Quite a broad statement there....

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

My money's on Perry. I don't know if I'd vote for him, but I think he'll be the repub candidate. And unless things change real quick, it won't be too difficult to defeat Obama.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

With the far right set to split now between Bachmann and Perry - not to mention the possibility of Palin, who is still calculating how to turn this to her best financial advantage - this paradoxically could help Romney. The choice of either would be a disaster for America, though.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

"Barack Obama has no clue"

Sure he does. Vice President Biden and Treasury Secretary Geithner have been giving him clues since the immaculation.

"We are going to make Barack Obama a one-term president."

That's a tough one. He will still have a lock on a certain segment of the voting population even if the economy collapses.

"Palin, who is still calculating how to turn this to her best financial advantage"

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

soundandfury

Has anyone asked Romeny what it feels like to be a part of an officially racist organization?

Yes, they have. He had gotcha questions like that thrown at him fours years ago. You don't seem particularly interested in his replies, or his position. You just like demonizing people who hold different views with the most sensational agitprop you can think of. Why is Harry Reid's Mormon faith never an issue?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Breitbart

You don't seem particularly interested in his replies, or his position

Well, what are his positions that I am missing (and throw in Harry Reid): they (Mormons) actively fund and support anti-gay legislation, their religion has a history of bigotry, and they are in office. I don't know how they defend their position, please let us know.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

With the far right set to split now between Bachmann and Perry -

So excitable. Have a look at Intrade.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

soundandfury

I don't know how they defend their position, please let us know.

You judged Romney without examining his position on the matters you mentioned. That is all I will tell you. You aren't interested in hearing his position. I think the Mormon Church is a little odd but most Mormons I have known are decent people. I can guarantee that in Romney's church no one is standing on the altar and shrieking "God damn America" ...

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Perry will likely be the nominee (to my horror). A sizeable portion of Americans are looking for a strong-jawed cowboy type who will spout the usual clichés about big government, taxes, WASP "values" and the God & USA partnership. It will not matter to his supporters that most of the jobs created under his tenure are minimum wage fast food or Walmart jobs. The middle and lower classes are being conned by these teabag candidates and their backers (e.g. Rove, the Fox media machine, etc.) into believing that making the rich richer will trickle down to them. Most of these supporters will also conveniently forget Perry's suggestion that Texas has a right to leave the union if the federal government does what it doesn't like (i.e. regulate what the rich and powerful are allowed to get away with). A couple of centuries of progress in workers' rights is being flushed down the toilet and few seem to give a damn, particularly those who are being screwed. The Republican joke is getting serious.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Texas has a budget deficit of somewhere between 15-27 billion. You can bet it'll all be explained away as not Perry's fault. Someone or something else will take the blame.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Breitbart-- It's not a conspiracy, there's nothing opaque about it. The vitriolic anti-liberal tone has been growing for years (yes, thanks to those I mentioned and others, such as your namesake) and has spilled over into the mainstream of thought now that the economy's a mess. It's easy to pin it all on Obama's policies and for reactionary and simplistic 'solutions' to make their way to the fore.

If the rightwing media has such negligible force, how is it that you've chosen your monicker? Coincidence?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

plastic

If the rightwing media has such negligible force, how is it that you've chosen your monicker? Coincidence?

It's not negligible. The so-called 'right wing media' competes with its opposite, which is good. You know, choice. I am all for it. You? I admire Breitbart. I admire even more the inventors, entrepreneurs and marketing gurus who made his rise possible by bringing to ordinary working people computers and video gear so advanced and yet so affordable that an individual like Breitbart , unaffiliated with the establishment media, could gain the following he has for examining issues that the mainstream media refuse to.

The American Family Association (AFA), a virulent anti-gay hate group based in Tupelo, Miss., has agreed to pay for a national day of prayer being organized later this summer in Houston by Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a longstanding ally to prominent figures in the anti-gay movement.

Nation of Islam is virulently anti-gay and is openly supremacist. Southern Poverty Law Center: : "The NOI [hold] a prominent position in the ranks of organized hate."

The NOI support Obama.

Double standard?

Santorum, a rod of liberty

In a segment of an April 2003 interview with the Associated Press, Santorum asserted that consenting adults do not have a constitutional right to privacy, and that polygamy, adultery, and sodomy undermine society and the family. Savage subsequently asked his readers to coin a definition for "santorum" which would offend the Senator, announcing the winner as "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex". He created a website called "Spreading Santorum" to promote this definition, which became a prominent search result for Santorum's name on several search engines. He offered in 2010 to take the website down if Santorum donated US$5 million to Freedom to Marry, a group advocating legal recognition of same-sex marriages.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Breitbart: "The last election was in 2010."

Sorry, my friend, I'll dummy it down for you a bit -- the last election for president of the USA, the next of which will be in 2012. Tough one, I know.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

"He [Dan Savage] created a website called "Spreading Santorum" to promote this definition, which became a prominent search result for Santorum's name on several search engines."

I try to imagine the outrage if Republican opponents of late-term abortions did something similar and used the name 'Obama' or 'Sibelius' to describe the mutilated remains of the fetus.

Savage, like all too many on the Left, is consumed with hate and projects it wantonly.

Soundandfury - did you catch Savage on Maher a few weeks back, wishing that all Republicans "were f*#%^ng dead" ? Do you approve of such barbarism?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

sound andfury -

Savage later apologized for wishing all Republicans dead.

"Bill Maher Guest Apologizes For Wishing Death on Republicans" http://www.newyorkerr.net/2011/07/bill-maher-guest-apologizes-for-wishing.html

I think like a lot of Obama faithful Savage has too much invested in the naked emperor and when it became clear Obama's views on gay marriage are the same as that Miss California chick that gay pride groups tried to destroy I think he too just started lashing out.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Santorum, in a press interview on a local Des Moines news station said he found great offense at Savage's often used phrase

Spreading Santorum

I had to google the phrase and then poke around in a few web sites before I could finally come to an understanding of Bachman:

Can you taste what I’m saying? It is onions or potatoes, a pinch of simple salt, the wealth of melting butter, it is obvious, it stays in the back of your throat like a truth you never uttered because the time was always wrong ... -Levine

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Much ado about nothing. Romney won this poll last time and he lost. Iowan republicans are loons who vote voted for the Huckster last time in large numbers.

Bachman was stunned by the submit to your husband question if she were President. Either she believes in the bible or she does not, no matter if she is elected. She does so therefore her husband, unelected, would run the country if he so chooses. She would merely be a puppet. Like bush was for the oil companies.

As the economy gets worse after the tea bagger financial terrorism, even mainstream republicans are rejecting the tea bagger strategy, Americans will realize that as bush did before the republicans will only screw things up again and force the democrats to again clean up the huge messes they make. Like unfunded wars without end or purpose, huge tax cuts for the rich while letting the middle class die and descend into poverty and mixing church with state to corrupt both. The republicans have no one, maybe other than Huntsman, who is credible at all. They are all losers and will destroy the country even more with one of their own again in the Whitehouse. Americans and the world does want another republican depression, only the tea party types want that.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Farmboy posted a link for Michele Bachmann's "weirdest quotes."

None of them are as weird as Barack Obama's "I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

... the Media is not going to be his friend ...

Capitalizing "media" is something I find endearing - making this bloodthirsty business seem as if one friendly family, like "the Rogers," and their patriarch, "Mr. Rogers" - except that in this case, his name is "Mr. Ailes."

But no worry: Texas is in such fine shape, and all due to Perry, that whatever muckraking happens will result on muck thrown back on the rakers, not on the creators, no doubt. Especially as he shares Palin's "policies and positions." It will be fascinating to see exactly what these are.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

sailwind: "Unfortunately, he is also going to the full Palin treatment from the media if he gains real traction now that he is in."

So in other words, he'll get what he deserves.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

You're kidding, right?

read again, sarge: "http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/the-ultimate-collection-of-stupid-michele-bachmann"

"During the last 100 days we have seen an orgy. It would make any local smorgasbord embarrassed … The government spent its wad by April 26.”

"'Carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn't even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas.''

''Not all cultures are equal.''

''[Pelosi] is committed to her global warming fanaticism to the point where she has said she has even said she is trying to save the planet. We all know that someone did that 2,000 years ago.''

Sorry, sarge, but this religious nutbag is even starting to make GWB quotations look good by comparison, although no one will ever beat his inability to spell or use correct grammar.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Of course, this one's also a classic: ''A woman (Terri Schiavo) was healthy. There was brain damage, there was no question. But from a health point of view, she was not terminally ill.''

Speaking of brain-damaged women... but hey, she also thinks that 50% of African-American pregnancies end in abortion but cannot give the stats! Yeah, sarge, that really compares to, "I think good things will make everyone feel better". Dream on.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Oh and sarge, don't forget... thanks to this woman and nutjobs like her in the GOP you lost your credit rating and the US dollar has fallen. But hey, kiss her butt while she nails you to the wall (like some guy 2000 years ago).

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

yabits: " Today's breed are either completely stupid or are able to hide their satanic deviousness much better."

The former, definitely. They can't hide anything due to said stupidity. And yes, the woman actually did say that, and more. Check out some of the other things she said via the link.... it's quite funny.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

sarge: ""Contrary to rumors you may have heard, I was not born in a manger. I was actually born on Krypton and sent here by my father Jor-El to save Planet Earth."

Ummm... can't you see the sarcasm in that statement? He's mocking you, and idiots like Bachmann, as well as Scientology to boot.

"So, sailwind, how do you feel about essentially being called brainless?"

How do you feel about yet again not being able to comment on the thread?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

So it appears that Barack Obama's Republican opponent in 2012 is going to be a parochial, red state, know-nothing who says and does whatever Grover Norquist tells him/her to say and do (if you don't know Norquist, you should; he is the unelected Rasputin of the US Republican Party). That's too bad. Obama could use an election campaign against a more formidable and intelligent opponent. The last two times out he's run against somebody who was an off-the-wall blowhard (Alan Keyes, 2004 Illinois Senate campaign) and somebody who was borderline senile (McCain, 2008) and probably not even eligible to run for president because unlike Obama, McCain wasn't born in a US state and the territory he was born in (the Canal Zone) now belongs to Panama.

One of the most intelligent one-time Republicans in America is now an independent: Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee. As a Republican Senator in 2006, Chafee did the whole world a favor by casting the deciding vote that ended the tenure of reprehensible Republican chickenhawk John Bolton as US ambassador to the UN. Too bad Chafee or other moderate New England politicians have no chance at gaining the Republican presidential nomination.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Bachman and that other MN man:

Can you taste what I’m saying? It is onions or potatoes, a pinch of simple salt, the wealth of melting butter, it is obvious, it stays in the back of your throat like a truth you never uttered because the time was always wrong ... -Levine

The above quote is from America's new poet laureate, Levine, a working man from the Detroit auto factories. He is a poet, but he being chosen reflects a growing trend where a large swath of Americans are grabbing their Americana roots and not apologizing.

People resonate with women like Bachmann because she reflects the kind of industrious women that they know in their communities. Perhaps not always right, having a dull sense of history, mocked by the coasts, skeptical of foreigners, religious, provincial, yes, very provincial. Their time is no longer wrong, and the wholesome food images without additional spices are winning. It is the rebirth of Venus in a flannel shirt.

Breitbart,

You judged Romney without examining his position on the matters you mentioned.

No, just simply pointed out that the Mormon organization is officially bigoted (or has been historically) and they continue to persecute gay people through legislation in recent years. As a fiscal leader, Romney is probably the best choice, and he has nice physical features (wouldn't kick him out of bed if you know what I mean--guessing you do)

Really enjoy watching the endless line of Lefty conspiracies. But can't you be a bit more imaginative? 3 million people a day watch buffoon Bill O'Reilly, Fox's top-rated show. I think that guy Hannity gets another 2 million - most of em probably the same people who follow OReilly. Not too many of us Americans actually worry or even think these people, spread throughout all 50 states, can leverage an electorate of 110 - 120 million.
