Abbott made Jim Crow proud!

And now on to Federal court.
Texas is now a majority-minority state. The rural white minority cannot win voter suppression of racial minorities and suburban moderates.

Here's the dishonesty and bad faith arguments underlying this disenfranchisement bill:
The bill's main author, Bryan Hughes, has repeatedly claimed that there are about 400 "open cases" of voter fraud in Texas. The actual number is 43. In a state with a population of almost 29 million.
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/politics/texas/article/Fact-checking-Texas-lawmaker-s-claim-of-400-16095858.php
This bill has nothing to do with election integrity, and everything to do with making it harder for a certain demographic (i.e. urban Democrats) to vote. The GOP is losing its grip because its policies are widely unpopular. The only way they can hold on to power is through gerrymandering, voting restrictions, and legislation that allows GOP legislatures to overturn election results.

How exactly does this prevent fraud? It just makes it harder for people who work late to vote. And I am sure the Texas GOP has statistics showing the political persuasion of such people.

Governor Beto

Between this obviously discriminatory bill and giving the finger to anyone who supports a women's reproductive rights, Governor smiley face is driving the women of Texas into the arms of the Democratic Party.
Both he hand Gov. Helmet Hair can forget about 2024, they are putting themselves at risk of losing re-election next year.
Bob Fosse
Looks like the railroad villain and his cronies in an old western.
Get your excuses lined up, if Democrats win again next time you’ll need a new one.

Greg Abbott has a message for the Taliban and other radical fundamentalist Muslims...
Emir Abbott urges you to come visit the Republican Emirate of Texastan....
Where you too can enjoy a radical Islamic lifestyle by openly carrying your assault rifle in public, look down on and discriminate against women, and have a third-world power grid...
Just like home in Kabul....and my favorite city, Abbottabad.....
Blacklabel
Good, glad to see some election integrity at last.
Bob Fosse
You haven’t seen anything. This is just a piece of paper until there actually is an election. Then we’ll see.
Blacklabel
oh ok, "just a piece of paper" so you liberals have nothing to be concerned about either.
So all that running away and spreading COVID was just political theater and nothing has actually changed after all.
bass4funk
Nonsense, It will make the process much easier to vote now and a lot harder to cheat, so the great thing about the bill is, if you can identify who you say you are, you can easily vote by mail. Great day for democracy. Love Texas!
Bob Fosse
Ok. 2 problems here.
Firstly, I’ve told you dozens of times that I’m not a liberal. You just can’t seem to comprehend that.
Secondly, COVID? You seem lost, try and stay on track.
bass4funk
If that’s true then the left doesn’t have to worry about the abortion law that was signed a few days ago, it’s just a piece of paper, so relax. No need for anger or protests. Just a stupid piece of paper.

The QGOP big tent has made room for many white nationalists plus those who actually believe aliens firing lasers start forest fires. The QGOP wacks seem to want to make the US and especially Texas into a plutocracy even more strongly controlled by big oil and gas plus big meat.
Current Texas pols, males like Cosplay Ted Cruz, AKA CANCUN CRUZ, Louis Gohmert, Dan Crenshaw and ilk have long supported Trump's QGOP trying to undermine the remaining democratic principles the US republic is built on.
Many Texas pols are more loyal to their imagined republic of Texas, than they are the US. Recall, the Alamo fighters were fighting to make sure their republic of Texas could become a place where slavery was legal.
Blacklabel
yet they always win Texas, on policy.
What do you mean Republicans cant win in Texas? Beto is now wondering why he isnt going to his job in the US Senate, if so.
bass4funk
Most Blacks are conservative when it comes to family and especially children as well as Hispanics, what about their tent?
No, Texas is a conservative State and California is a liberal State, we do what we like, Californians do what they like. Neither side wants to be like the other.
According to the world of liberals not according to the people of Texas of most conservatives.
What?
bass4funk
Ok, that’s your opinion. A lot of people in that State disagree as well as Conservatives across the country and if Dems are so confident, don’t worry about it. Just a piece of paper, right?
stormcrow
Those conservative Texans will stop at nothing to prevent people they don't like from voting. What crazy thing will they think up next?
PTownsend
What?
Stop reading histories written by Bill O'Reilly. Google Davy Crockett Alamo slavery
https://www.statesman.com/news/20180303/politifact-these-two-texas-heroes-had-ties-to-slavery
bass4funk
OK that’s your opinion and that’s the liberals take on it, that’s not the conservatives take on it. “Deal with it” as liberals always like to say to conservatives.
I understand, but we are not taking the Democrats word on this and most other things THEY want us to swallow and believe.
SuperLib
The plot to establish minority rule will only work up until people start to realize that they're living under minority rule. For now it's chalked up as security, but as we continue and see Democrats win more popular votes and lose more seats in government people will begin to wake up.
And they won't be happy. Good luck, GOP. It's only a matter of time.
bass4funk
But continually invoking white nationalists is not being racial?
They felt it was as well as other conservatives and swing States.
Uh-huh, you go think that, everyone in my town that I personally know thinks differently. You believe what you want and so will I.
plasticmonkey
They're winning now, but given how the country is changing, they know that their future is bleak. Republicans will not be able to win on policy in the future. They're scared and they're rigging the system for future elections. It's the only way forward for the GOP.
Smell the fear in the words of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick:
In Texas, we are the last man standing. There are a lot of conservative and red states around the country, but if we fall, America falls. The electoral votes of New York, California, and New York [sic] combined together means we could never elect a conservative Republican to the White House ever again.
I can tell you that as the lieutenant governor of this great state that I’m blessed and honored to serve, we’re not ever going to let that happen.

Tucker and his shameless opportunist friends in the far right media are doing a bang up job scaring their audience with a narrative about these fictional evils:
voter fraud
immigrants
BLM and antifa
critical race theory
cancel culture
transgender bathrooms
the war on Christmas
gun regulation
socialism
masks and vaccines
etc...
But back to the main point. FACT: voter fraud is virtually nonexistent. FACT: the 2020 election was the most secure in American history. FACT: the purpose of this bill is to make it harder for Democrats to vote and for GOP legislatures to overturn election results.
plasticmonkey
An anecdote about people's beliefs. How enlightening.
What's even the point of debating?
bass4funk
Nope.
https://nypost.com/2020/08/29/political-insider-explains-voter-fraud-with-mail-in-ballots/
Anyway, I’m happy about today, can’t wait for more of this. Great day for democracy and freedom!
