Leave it to Texas to honor an American terrorist who took part in an illegal invasion of a sovereign country. Iraqis who killed American soldiers were defending their country against an occupier.

Well he was pretty good with firearms ( big, long, powerful ones at that ) and he didn't have any time for Muslims. Of course the Texans like him.

War is not pretty, contrary to common misconception it don't start with the 1st bullet fired nor end with the last one.

Nothing against Cris Kyle but he was one of several thousand if not more heroes, a high kill ratio don't make you a hero or patriot.

Some of my friends are not snipers, also have Recce, Bomb/Mine disposal members, they got one thing in common they risk their lives to save Grunts.

'War is not pretty'

It must have some attraction for American rightists. They seem to be almost constantly looking for a country to bomb or fight with, their media describes the awesome power of the military in almost erotic terms and there are no shortage of movies about it. They seem to find it irresistible.

I agree war is not pretty nor is seeing people blown to bits a few metres away as I have seen during terrorist attacks.

Gimme war over the alternative ........

1 ( +7 / -6 )

He was good at his job to saving others lives (by taking out BAD guys), glad I din't have to make the choices he did.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Finally the unnecessary, illegal and disastrous Iraq War has found a hero, a lying psychotic killer. If you opposed this war you are a true hero.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

"Kyle, who called Muslims “savages” in his memoir."

The Muslims Kyle had to stop from killing/enslaving others no doubt were savages.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Kyle, who called Muslims “savages” in his memoir.

No he didn't. He called the armed enemy that used women as shields and made children into human bombs "savages".

1 ( +6 / -5 )

For Kyle to call the Muslims "savages" is possible a coping mechanism. He had done what the majority could not do. He saved live while making decisions to kill others. It's not just shooting a gun, he watched movements, perhaps saw fears of the BAD guys and pulled the trigger. Air strikes have a higher count but in no way have a close visual connection.

Think about it, if you returned from war doing his job would you feel guilt or would you develop a coping mechanism.

Perhaps he was racist, I didn know him, but he had compassion to others. He died sacrificing his time to help other vets cope with real life. In the military he did his job and did it well.

"Finally the unnecessary, illegal and disastrous Iraq War has found a hero, a lying psychotic killer. If you opposed this war you are a true hero."

No, but if you opposed this war, you supported keeping the dictator who started the Iran-Iraq war, invaded Kuwait, gassed the Kurds and ruled Iraq with an iron fist for 25 years and his thugs in power.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Wow, Greg Abbott is a real 'American Governor'. He knows how to pull the trigger and make people think twice about thinking twice.

Way to make political use of a popular movie!

Yee-haw!

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Your right Serrano. Same as Libya. In retrospect hard line dictators control the masses in the ME region. both Hussan and Qaddafi were BAD men. Old men, with family successors who could have been even worse.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

both Hussan and Qaddafi were BAD men. Old men, with family successors who could have been even worse.

Nice excuse. You know nobody had a soft spot for Saddam Hussein or his family.

The situation in Iraq now is far worse than it would have been had the Bush admin not started that stupid war. There was no good reason for it. WMDs? Al Qaida? Sorry, but Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, etc were just plain dumb. It was the worst flub in American history, and this is what we've got now. The US aggravated a bad situation into a catastrophe, blindsided out of either ideological or financial motives.

Enough with the Chris Kyle apologetics. Just chest thumping BS.

Enough with the Chris Kyle bashing. Just liberal BS.

Can always rely on Texas for pure 'murican paytree-utism with a complete and utter lack of wisdom. While I do believe Chris Kyle did his job as a soldier, there are many hundreds of thousands of others that do the exact same thing.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

if you opposed this war, you supported keeping the dictator who started the Iran-Iraq war, invaded Kuwait, gassed the Kurds and ruled Iraq with an iron fist for 25 years and his thugs in power.

Great, now we've got Americans trying to whitewash history. The invasion was about WMDs, not removing Saddam from power.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Kyle killed patriots who were fighting invaders, which something I assume the Texas governor would do. There is nothing to celebrate here.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Great, now we've got people claiming Americans are trying to whitewash history when they are just stating the truth.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

I am a Vietnam Vet with nothing but disgust for the purveyors of this nonsense, this self-righteous violence against others. Eastwood did not serve in any war, which is why he compensates with this macho garbage. He is compensating for his own cowardice.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

No, but if you opposed this war, you supported keeping the dictator who started the Iran-Iraq war, invaded Kuwait, gassed the Kurds and ruled Iraq with an iron fist for 25 years and his thugs in power.

Bingo! That pretty much sums it all up. But then again NO ONE cares about the Kurds or how they suffered under Saddam and yet, libs are angry about the war and before the war, the average American knew nothing of Iraq, let alone where it is and now they have such a concern for the Iraqi people? I have never heard ANY of the liberal media talk about the plight of the Kurds, Yezidis, Yarsas, Shabaks, Iraqi Jews and the Mandaeans NOT one single time!

Kyle killed patriots who were fighting invaders, which something I assume the Texas governor would do. There is nothing to celebrate here.

He did what he was supposed to do. Good on Kyle for protecting his men and all the men that are out there protecting our freedoms and good on Texas.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

Kyle saved more lives than he took. Get that through you heads yoy pinko bleeding heart liberal twits.....

'Bingo! That pretty much sums it all up. But then again NO ONE cares about the Kurds or how they suffered under Saddam and yet, libs are angry about the war and before the war,'

As a well-informed journalist, you must have been aware of the plight of the Kurds and others living under the Saddam regime for over two decades. You must gave also been aware of where Saddam got arms ( chemical and conventional ) to wage war against Iran and gas people. You must have also been aware that Bush senior decided against removing Saddam after his Kuwait invasion. Did you explode in rage at Bush senior for not removing Saddam when Saddam's crimes were already known? Can I ask when you started clamouring for Saddam's removal? Was it a sudden attack of morality, a knowledge that the western powers were propping him up, concern for the Kurds or was it the 'evidence' that Saddam had WMDs and had the capacity to employ them in 45 minutes? Spare us the moral righteousness. It reeks of hypocrisy.

Mr Kyle was a great man.

Why are you wasting your time. You are commenting on a mostly liberal echo chamber. What do you expect. The left are not interested in understanding, accepting or want to believe in the truth. If they can vilify and demonize a hero like Kyle or other soldiers/snipers that were doing their jobs, they will do so. Personally, I applaud Kyle for what he did and all the soldiers for their sacrifices for us and the world. It's because of them, we can sit here on JT and share our opinions, no matter how twisted and convoluted they may be.

@Jim

As a well-informed journalist, you must have been aware of the plight of the Kurds and others living under the Saddam regime for over two decades. You must gave also been aware of where Saddam got arms ( chemical and conventional ) to wage war against Iran and gas people.

So if I give you are care as a parent and you are old enough to drive and you crash and kill somone, that's my fault? See this is what makes me smh about the left. Whether Saddam got the Chemical weapons (some, not the majority, they developed a lot of their own) matters little, the point is, he used them to kill his own people. No one forced him to do that.

You must have also been aware that Bush senior decided against removing Saddam after his Kuwait invasion. Did you explode in rage at Bush senior for not removing Saddam when Saddam's crimes were already known?

Yes, at that time, Bush thought that after Saddam's defeat in DS, he could be contained or at least would have been more pacified.

Can I ask when you started clamouring for Saddam's removal?

From the beginning of the Kuwait invasion.

Was it a sudden attack of morality, a knowledge that the western powers were propping him up, concern for the Kurds or was it the 'evidence' that Saddam had WMDs and had the capacity to employ them in 45 minutes? Spare us the moral righteousness. It reeks of hypocrisy.

It reeks ONLY because you fail to see the reality of what Saddam was. I felt he should have been removed then and until he was caught. We armed and helped him, so what, that kind of alignment with questionable leaders and dictators is nothing new to the world and has been done throughout history by many people. The left try so hard, so very hard to put the blame of Saddam's crimes as the fault of the US. Which is completely ridiculous. Would you say the same about Japan? Now that's real hypocrisy!

But nice try though.

Mr Kyle was a great man.

Without a doubt!

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Bush thought that after Saddam's defeat in DS, he could be contained or at least would have been more pacified.

Saddam WAS contained, and he WAS pacified. After the collapse of the regime, it was widely reported that Saddam was holding on by a thread due to having been crippled by sanctions. Saddam knew how to run his country though - showing any weakness would seen revolt. So even though the regime was crippled, he put on a show as if it wasn't.

@It'S ME, For someone whom served, thank you for your words. @Ostap Bender, don't get it twisted as I will always respect the opinions of others. Soliders are not politicians and with the events surrounding 9/11, our duty to protect our country as soliders were not to reason why but to do and die. Many of my friends died believing in a what they believed to be a just cause before ever learning what we know now. 20/20 is hind sight and be careful how you place that word, terrorist. If your actions are as sharp as words, then be my guest go after those that are truly responsible for this tragedy and not those that died believing they were protecting your rights as I stil do.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Your post seems to be worded as if it is countering something I said, though for the life of me I cannot tell what.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Kyle was a liar as proven in court. Ask Jesse Ventura who is not much better in my opinion. Its sick that Americans are so quick to declare a soldier a hero on the basis of his dead body count, a book and a movie. Desmond Doss was a hero for his live body count. Where is his movie? Kyle was just a killer and a liar and basically a U.S. government corp. mercenary in an engineered war.

Pig in a blanket is a good name for someone who wraps themselves in the flag and cheers loudly for any war and any killer with the correct color uniform. Honor is an unknown and mysterious concept to such people though they can't stop talking about it.
