Actually, the law was passed in 2012 under Chavez. But don't let facts get in the way of polictical hackery.

zichi: "But guns are banned from the NRA HQ?"
Would be hilarious if not so sad and obvious, eh?

USA could actually use the Swiss model of a well trained militia and decentralize gun control but even this would eliminate millions of guns out of Skeeter and Dwayne's hands

Vernon Watts: "@DV: but Maduro was the one who pushed ahead with confiscation so what's your point."
That you lied. Or that you just don't know your butt from a hole in the ground. Engage in facts, not alternative facts, friend. Australia also made strict fire arms laws after a massacre and now have had none since. So, what's YOUR point?

There was an off-duty policeman at the synagogue shooting the other day who fired at the assailant to no effect - and he was trained. Imagine a bunch of yahoos letting off.
At least the opt-out is good news. Imagine an America where most every private place prohibits weapons, from shopping malls to religious establishments.

Good god, why bring a killing machine to place of peace?

Maybe these numbskulls should ask god what firearm he is packing pack the same...….
This is so beyond pathetic!

Good old 'Merka. Nothing like selling your soul so the NRA can make money.
You get what you deserve, US. Honestly, please just ask all gun lovers to form circles and draw. Then let the rest of us live in peace, without guns.

Yikes.

Another way for the guns and ammo industries to get richer.

Wonder if they'll pretend to be surprised at the next mass shooting, or have the gall to ask "Why?"

extanker: "I'm sure future mass shooters all over the state of Texas..."
Only in the US can you start a sentence like this as though a mass shooter were as natural as having to go to the bathroom.
smithinjapan
"Some Texas legislators... are morons. Complete and utter morons."
Fixed the opening sentence.

Let’s set other issues aside and focus on this? OK.

Yes, have to be careful about the haters that would love to off people in an organization they so despise.
like muslims haters masquerading as worshipers enter a mosque armed, or christian haters masquerading as worshipers enter a church armed

Also, there are an estimated 6 million firearms in civilian hands in Venezuela, one for ever 6 persons roughly.
wtfjapan
Do you really think the person coming into the church to shoot people needs it to be legal that he is carrying a gun? you missed the point.
since the NRA doesnt allow guns into its building but Texas says its fine to take one into a place of worship it would seem gun rights is more important than god. After all the NRA buildings is a safer place to be than in a place of worship
starpunk
Hypocrites! Guns are their gods - THE LORD IS NOT THEIR GOD.

Things that used to seem ridiculous are becoming reality:

But according to you guns aren’t the problem and banning them won’t prevent mass murders. So why do the NRA need to ban them?
wtfjapan
I know you are too smart to have missed my sarcasm but instead chose to ignore it.
unfortunaelty here on JT one person sarcasm is another persons fact, (thats wasnt being sarcastic by the way)

So, the issue most commentators have is that legally elected representatives want to clarify an existing law in Texas.
Democracy works, unless you disagree, then the people are called names like "nutters".
Good to know there is so much tolerance here.
extanker
Do you really think the person coming into the church to shoot people needs it to be legal that he is carrying a gun? Come on. I'm sure future mass shooters all over the state of Texas are just giddy with excitement that they might finally be able to legally carry their weapon into their intended target...
Vernon Watts
@DV: but Maduro was the one who pushed ahead with confiscation so what's your point. And BTW, the guns you are talking about are in possession of the thugs paid by Maduro and trained by the Cubans. Venezuela has the second highest murder rate in Latin America -- Honduras holds the honor of 1st place.
Vernon Watts
Well the illegal president of Venezuela, Maduro, confiscated all guns in private hands in 2013-2014 under the guise of "protecting the children" and now you see the result on the news everyday. God bless the 2nd Amendment...

Hate to say it, but sounds reasonable to me.
