Thai parliament opens to discuss pro-democracy protests

Parliament opens to discuss? Ita a military junta, the people are not happy seems like a no brainer. If you have a law to protect the monachy that's a sad state of affairs and the knee to the nuts the King doesn't even live there, spends most of his time in Europe with his wife and consorts. At tax payer expense. I'd be angry too if I was Thai.

The Thai generals and the playboy, sadistic, and tyrant Vajiralongkorn are the bloodsuckers of Thai People. I fully support the four demands of protesters which are:

Prayut must resign,

Thai Parliament must rewrite the military-scripted constitution,

Thai government must stop harassing political opponents, and

Perhaps the Thai people should adopt the Chilean solution. They have just had a democratic vote to replace the old oppressive constitution and the new one is to be written by specially elected representatives of the people not existing law makers.

Perhaps they should add another requirement to their list, that if retained the monarch must live in Thailand except for official visits abroad?

I agree with you that the Thai protesters's second demand is difficult to achieve and that the Chilean solution is a much better solution. However, because the Thai protesters currently have a limited power as compared with the Chilean counterpart and that Prayut's power is still intact, it is still a good demand to start with. Once Thai protests gather momentum inside and outside Thailand, anything can happen in politics including the corrupt king must live in exile.

Perhaps the Thai people should adopt the Chilean solution. Asking the current crop of Thai parliamentarians to re-write the constitution is like asking Turkeys to vote for Christmas!

Sooner or later, the young will prevail. If Thailand's government doesn't recognize that fact, the country will fail and there will be another coup. I, for one, have always (until recently) wanted to visit Thailand. That idea has now not only been relegated to the back burner, it's been taken off the stovetop.

Kick out the junta and the weirdo king living like lord muck in German replaced by his sister Sirindhorn and let her form a democratic government. As someone who has lived in both Bangkok and the north this would keep most Thai’s happy.

I'll at least give the Thai parliament style points for those multicolored office chairs. Look a lot more comfortable than the Japanese Diet, whose chairs look like they were last reupholstered sometime in the Showa-jidai.
