Wow, sensitive, these royals!

Thailand has ridiculously strict "Lèse-majesté" laws where any comment or action that could be construed as insulting to Thai royalty is harshly punished. Even the book and the movie "The King and I" is banned in Thailand because it depicts the Thai king as a mortal human and not a deity as he is portrayed officially.

The former King was worshipped as a Demi-god due to his selfless devotion to his people much as Queen Elizabeth was. (Rumor has it that as a young man, he accidentally shot and killed another Royal and spent the remainder of his life in remorse. Serving the people was his show of remorse.)

The CURRENT king is a playboy sob. The rumors of his hedonism are legend. He’s been living very high on the hog, partying it up in Europe and is utterly and completely corrupt.

Of course he’s going to crack down on any voice of dissent even a subtle one about his current side piece AKA Queen.

I've asked Thai people about the law. I don't know if they are afraid to say what they really think or not, but either they agree with the law or they say nothing.

My websites were all blocked in Thailand. I never understood why, since there is/was no content related to Thailand at all. It isn't offensive content either - mostly technical stuff for nerds, security people and admins.

I can understand the Thai peoples love for their former king, but obviously as somebody who visits there regularly I can’t say my views, but according to media, the new guy is not very popular.

Ah....the "land of fake smiles".

"Wow, sensitive, these royals!"

Correct, but, which Royals is that? It is interesting how some people decry this, because it is in Thailand, then portray anyone attempting to question the massive hysteria of the British Monarchs funeral as disrespectful, insensitive, vulgar or even arrest them.

Until one week ago I genuinely had no position at all on Monarchs. But after a week like that, I have learned about censorship and suppression on freedom of speech in the most surprising "democratic" places.

Georg - true enough. I was surprised to see non-violent protestors arrested in the U.K. I can see that the difference between Thailand and the U.K. in this aspect is only a matter of degrees.
