Obviously, clarifying and enforcing rules for a new industry, especially one as fluid as marijuana, takes time. California is working out its own kinks. But buds draw tourists.

So loads of stoned tourists staggering about, winding up the locals and getting themselves into all kinds of scrapes... Stoned hippies en masse, yay

200000 baht for a kilo is a very handsome price, that is more than a farm worker in Isaan earns per year!

I am surprised they are complaining about $5,800 a kilo. I spoke to a grower in the USA whose cost is $800 a pound and sells it for $1200. So about$2600 kilo. 50% margin is good imo.

Last I checked SE Asian input costs are way less. Does not make sense.

Did you even read the article? It says nothing about stoned tourists causing problems. It talks about imported pot causing business market problems for local growers.

If anything you're talking tourists drunk out of their minds on alcohol causing trouble.

I wonder whether if enough locals get high they can topple the military and create the first free country in SE Asia.

No, there are not thousands of stoned tourists walking around.

"It's 100% a political game."

is an understatement lost on most punters unaware that "prohibition" is very cat-nip to politicians everywhere who will use every opportunity to enhance their power and authority by making up new laws to criminalize the behavior of others and, as a bonus, reaping votes from the gaslit hapless and hopeless who can always be relied on to vote against their own interests. Democracy is a candle in the wind indeed!
