Why?

Convincing someone in a developed nation to take up deep sea fishing as a profession is a tough sell. It's a miserable and dangerous way to make a living and you are away from home for months on end stuck on a small fishing vessel working every single day. Living conditions on working fishing boats can be rough. Your pay depends on how much fish the boat catches, and that often depends on the judgement of the ship's captain. Most will chose instead to go to college, earn a degree and do something less risky and uncomfortable with their lives.

If they totally close their borders and keep every entrant under quarantene, sure. However, that is something only small island countries with stricly controlled borders can do. How many countries do you think that recipe will work for?

NZ is doing a pretty darn good job of stamping it out. The cases picked up today are not a concern within NZ. The single case announced Sunday is more of a concern but we haven't heard about any further infections from that at this time... and NZ still has more freedom within its borders with less worry about infection than almost any other country at this time.

Stamp it out for now. But my guess is it will be back. Or, if they totally close the country, their economy will collapse.

It sounds like you really really want one of the two to happen or even better both.

The only question I have here is did they really all test negative 3 days before coming to NZ - it seems difficult to believe so many could be now positive unless the initial 'negative' tests were faulty.

Virtually all documentation is all available for a price! Bank statements, marriage certificates, graduate degrees, driving licences, press credentials, health certificates, and other paperwork, even passports!

People are willing to pay to get back to work.

You can not stamp it out. Those politicians who try to do that cause more harm than good.

What you can do is control it and protect vulnerable groups.

Hopefully not a big deal. It was caught while they were all in managed isolation. As long as it doesn't get out and I imagine the safeguards are there to prevent that happening.

What are you talking about? - covid positive cases are detected every week through returnees coming back to NZ - as long as they are picked up in quarantine like they were here then there is no problem.

There's no escaping the 'rona. Just delaying the inevitable. With summer coming, locking people up in their homes again isn't the best thing and no longer advisable even by the WHO.
