This is not the same as previous elections in which the party of the President changed. This is an election in which a man who is obviously unfit for office and who has a long and well-documented history of illegal conduct (fraud, for example, and housing discrimination) and who is plainly a racist and a misogynist was elected with a minority - yes, a minority - of the popular vote. There is going to be discontent and dissent and protest and, if this man takes office and does the things he said he would do, those protests will grow and spread. You may disagree that they should happen and you may think that every American should just accept the election result, but there is a tremendous amount of fear, sadness, rage, and deep, deep concern about environmental issues, particularly climate change, and it would not be a good idea to dismiss those feelings. People need to have their voices heard.

-6 ( +7 / -13 )

Looks like Soros still has enough cash left to sponsor more protests.

Mary Florin-McBride, 62, a retired banker from New York who held a sign reading, “No Fascism in America.”

Yeah, well maybe Mary should accept the results of this democratic election.

We will all come together and be proud!

Trump added, "Well, except for the Mexican-looking types, and the Muslims - you guys know Ross sells suitcases for less? And the LBGT community, which personally I don't have a problem with, but I also have no qualms about sacrificing to my vampirish VP Pence. Blacks are welcome to join this kumbaya moment if they remember everything the first black president has done will be erased - that is, remember your place. And when we all come together, the women can all gather in the kitchen to bake! Yes, we will all come together, and America will become again what it was when I was born in 1946."

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Just think what deporting millions of illegals will do to the American economy and the lives of poor legals. Imagine the number of jobs that will become available and the effect on rents as the gang members are led to the border and measures are taken to prevent them from ever coming back.

My vote for Trump is helping the good people and hurting the bad. I'll never regret it.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Ok, they protest, get some steam out of them and then what? Go home and back down to the depth of their parents basement and smoke more weed? Maybe if they can finally get a job, they're too busy working rather than acting like a bunch of cry babies breaking things and wasting everyone else's time.

Wow, there you go folks, this is the mind of a liberal. This is exactly the reason why we have so much hatred and division. Trump didn't say any of those things, why you guys have to go there. Now on a serious not, all the disastrous policies that Obama did get passed through executive order should be repealed, that's for sure.

Trump is inviting Republican experienced people. He just invited Romney,

I would say, more like, "misguided and confused."

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Right forgetting for a moment about the well documented and proven racism, facism, misogynism and just plain idiocy, I wonder how you think about Trump selecting Myron Ebell, a man who disputes the scientific consensus around anthropogenic global warming, to lead the EPA transition team...? Not to mention Trump wanting to quit the Paris agreement.

This man is singlehandedly (well actually, him, and his legion of doom) going to destroy America and the world and you think people shouldn't have the right to demonstrate..?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

The clueless protestors are still angry. Hillary is telling her (you're not getting your money back) donors, Goldman Sachs, George Soros, Saudi Arabia the occasional hedge fund and others, blaming Comey for her defeat, refusing to take any responsibility. Yeah, great leadership there.

This is what happens when the CNN brainwashed lefties get their "group think" ON.

Small car accident, no mention of voting, guy got out of his car to ask about insurance, the crowd incites a mob attack.

Saw a reporter on TV ask one protester at an anti-Trump rally who he supported, "Bernie Sanders!", the guy said.

"So who did you vote for?", the reporter asked.

"Nobody!", he said.

My question is this: Why the hell are people like this out there protesting at an anti-Trump demonstration instead of staying at home reading Why Your Vote Matters? If you didn't bother to vote, then don't cry and complain about the results.

"Wow, there you go folks, this is the mind of a liberal. This is exactly the reason why we have so much hatred and division."

Do you think people who spout partisan nonsense like Obama is or maybe a Muslim are also a cause of division?

They have every right to protest Trump. But also, the people had every right to protest Obama as well. This is just the same. Both sides are hypocrites when it comes to the other side protesting.

Trump himself said that the election would be rigged, and thanks to the total silence of NBC which made him into a TV star and all the other TV networks which gave his vapid campaign massive coverage while belittling the message of "socialist" Sanders and ignoring his inspirational campaign, Kris Kobach's (Kansas Secretary of State and "architect" of the Great Mexican Wall of Trump) "Crosscheck" strategy of voter suppression (1,000000+) of Blacks and other minorities in GOP-controlled states has remained the dirty little (big?) secret of this sordid presidential election. Will light ever be shone on this travesty of democracy, and how would the American people react if they were told the truth.? The reality is that ever since the end of slavery after the American Civil War Blacks have never been able to enjoy fully their right to vote without the deliberate and malicious interference from the White majority. After the protesters have cooled down perhaps they will realize that, thanks to the elevation of the Chump to the office of CEO of Amerika, they can seize this unique historic opportunity to refashion American politics and take back their democracy from the 1%+ and their venal enablers in the Congress, Senate and White House.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

They should be protesting Clinton rigging the primary against Sanders

This is looking like a "class war" in the making.

The affected urban/coastal elites against the nobody "deplorables" of the great American wasteland.

of the great American wasteland.

Childish, illogical, hateful, cowardly, idiotic comment. They grow your food to fill your ulcerated stomach.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Dear Protesters: your candidate lost. It happens. Unlike when you were in school, there is actually competition in the world, with consequences. Everyone doesn't get a trophy and a juice box just for participating. Why not take your cues from Pres. Obama and his staff, who are behaving with class and dignity?

Yes, tiny fisted and ineffectual tantrums are satisfying for a moment, but they will have no impact on the result. Yes, it is harder to actually WORK for change instead of merely wishing for it and letting others work for it, but that's life.

If you want to have real impact, get busy! Volunteer at a homeless shelter. Clean up a park or a street (especially one left a shambles by your fellow lefties). Take an immigrant family into your home (well, at least your parents' home). There are concrete things to do to improve your country. Crying over spilt milk isn't one of them.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

I suppose after this historically ridiculous election and result, I shouldn't be surprised that we are seeing these demonstrations. I suspect that the reject-Trump movement will grow. That Trump will be unable to fullfull any of his unrealistic campaign promises may turn many Trump voters into Trump haters for having been lead on by a "liar". Right now we need President-Elect Trump to come out on national television and address this issue. It's not enough for him to just say "we need to come together" when it was he who ripped it apart, He may actually have to learn to say "I'm sorry" to preserve his presidency.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I'm not surprised these whining and violent protesters supprorted someone like Hillary.

But seriously, the corrupt powers that be will not simply lay back and give up their hold on power, they will throw everything they have to incite, organize, and fund violence, and then try to place all the blame on Trump. For them, the more violence the better; that's why we have the incident Fizzbit mentioned above: "Small car accident, no mention of voting, guy got out of his car to ask about insurance, the crowd incites a mob attack."

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Typical of the left when they don't get their own way they throw tantrums typical of a generation that have probably never had mummy and daddy say "no" to them once in their lives.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Refusing to accept the results of a fair and democratic election is deplorable behaviour. Maybe if the voter turnout had been higher, there would be no need to take to the streets and protest.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

"Typical of the left when they don't get their own way they throw tantrums typical of a generation that have probably never had mummy and daddy say "no" to them once in their lives"

Yes, you can imagine spoiled brats who've lived a mollycoddled life acting like this. Here's a prime example ( Yoshitsune posted this the other day ):

"We can't let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty."

Donald J Trump in 2012 after Obama's election win.

Ugh American left wing has become such corrupt mess wich offends me as a left leaning person i should not let it surprise me since I come from the European left wing wich is a stark contrast to American left wing since American left wing was founded by elites sipping tea in comfortable living rooms and is now dominated by racism, eliteism and nepotism.

@FizzBit

Actually, I was taking a facetious jab at the elitist bigotry being directed at pro Trump voters by the left.

In fact I would wholeheartedly echo your list of adjectives if they were directed at the smug superiority affected by the self appointed liberal intelligentsia.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Sorry Kuya.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

I find it hypocritical that the people who just elected a president who is supposedly anti-establishment, are now complaining because of people who are protesting the establishment.

But most liberals can't separate the rational thinking and the emotional thinking.

That's the Trump voters since they are fine that Trump is keeping ObamaCare. It shows that ObamaCare was a good idea to begin with.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The behavior of the few violent protesters is probably just adding resolve to those who voted for Trump. Protesting itself is great, it's very American, but at some point you need to figure out how to move forward, not just try and block those who have chosen another path. The country must deal with 20 trillion dollars of debt - name calling the president elect isn't going to help.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

No issue with peaceful demonstrations. Go for it! Damage to property or people is a different thing completely. Lock those people up!

They appear clueless about how same-sex marriage law happened. The supreme court made a ruling. I'm ok with that. What 2 adults want to do with their lives just doesn't matter to me provided they don't harm anyone outside the relationship.

For illegal immigrants, they violated US laws. They deserve to be deported. It really is that simple. When I drive over the speed limit, I deserve to get a ticket. The good news is that deporting 12M people just isn't possible. Allowing them to jump the line for legal status would be a slap in the face for every LEGAL immigrant in the USA. It is unfair. Amnesty would be unfair.

There was mention in the article about black people being afraid. I don't see how a new president alters anything about that. All people deserve the same treatment by the police. Black, red, green, white, yellow, purple. When the police fail to do that, THEY need to have oversight and repercussions. Being in law enforcement isn't always easy and all lives matter, not just those from any specific group.

Don't know what being an atheist has to do with anything. It isn't like either candidate is some huge religious light against the darkness.
1 ( +1 / -0 )

You voted for it (or didn't vote at all, which is just as bad) in your weird system, so you wear it people.

Good luck. You're gonna need it.

Big deal. Close to one million people protested in South Korea about their presidents alleged corruption, so it is a storm in a Tea cup.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Clinton lost-time to suck it up losers..........! yes Clinton lost the election, but the results show she is more popular than Trump. how is that democratic. Even Japan has realised that unproportionate vote by demography is unconstitutional. After all isnt one of the basis of democracy about everybody being equal!?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

It looks like whingers and whiners can't take democratic election results.....

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Refusing to accept the results of a fair and democratic election is deplorable behaviour.

The problem is "democracy" is not about fairness. It's a better system than many others. But that can become giving full power to a majority of bullies, and allowing them to abuse minorities that voted differently. You may find it very extreme, but a majority can back a policy of stripping a group of persons from their nationality and deporting them on sole criteria of ethnicity or color or any physical difference or... The majority can "democratically" decide sterilizing them, or just killing them all. I'm not talking about theories, just stuff that happened in 20th century history.

they violated US laws. They deserve to be deported. It really is that simple. When I drive over the speed limit, I deserve to get a ticket.

Why not giving them a ticket and deporting you instead ? You are much more dangerous than them. Overspeeding puts in dangeer the life of others, while the "damage" done by overstaying a visa is not clear.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

You're ALL going to have to finally get JOBS now....too bad...oh, and the ILLEGAL people, JUST LIKE in OTHER countries; say JAPAN< you're going to have to LEAVE.

GOP has become autocratic self serving government like CCP of people republic. Trump has appointed family members in transition team. It is the nepotism and conflict of interest. Unlike other election, one party will totally control executive, legislative and judisary branches in 2017. If there is no opposition, crony, nepotism, injustice and corruption will occur.

Since 1928, USA has never been fully ruled by one party autocratic system. As no opposition party voice in all branches of government, protesters voices are required on the streets and roads. Constitution has no objection for the peaceful protests.

Trump is a commander in chief. However he is not Roman emperor for wiping out the anti establishment movement. Founding fathers sheded their blood and sweat for freedom, liberty and equal justice.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Gee, I somehow missed the violent protests, smashing of shop windows, flood of Twitter death threats and arson following Obama's election. Guess I should watch the news more often.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

The politicians & American voters all know beforehand that whoever wins more than 270 electoral votes becomes the President, regardless of total number of popular votes. Fair and square and transparent. Trump won 306 vs Hillary 232. That is a big win. Honor the winner. Those famous pop stars who swore to migrate to the outer space planets or Canada or Africa should keep their words and do so instead of gripping and complaining. They can also try out Latinos Mexico and Islamic Middle East since they believe their most idealistic everyone equal ideals are universal.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

yes Clinton lost the election, but the results show she is more popular than Trump. how is that democratic.

Fact: Trump won the popular vote and electoral college.

In response to these protesters maybe the red counties should stop giving the blue counties food

Fact: Trump won the popular vote and electoral college.

No, the fact appears to be that Hillary Clinton has won the popular vote by a reasonable margin. Where did you read otherwise?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

A lot of hate emanating from the American Left since the people of all 50 states and the territories made their choice. The irony that before the election the media was pushing the notion that Trump supporters would not accept the will of the people. Yet the exact opposite has occurred and the Left does not want to face their disappointment in a mature and constructive fashion.

That said I encourage Democrats to continue their whining temper tantrum - especially Senator Harry Reid - they are making fools of themselves and are showing that they are sore losers. They are showing their disdain for the peaceful transfer of power. They are showing their intolerance for the other half of America that voted for a different future for the country. If the shoe were on the other foot we know what the Left would be saying about sore losers on the Right.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Fact: Trump won the popular vote and electoral college.

That's fiction, not fact.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

That's fiction, not fact.

You are right, the counting is not over but it appears that Hillary will get more popular votes than Trump. But Trump got more states and electoral college votes. So many people are unaware of the fact that America is a democratic republic. In fact, in most if not all Western democracy's the national leader (ie. Prime Minister) is not chosen by the majority of the popular vote. Please drop the ridiculous argument about the popular vote in order to delegitimize the president-elect. Many other national leaders fall into the same boat.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

So far, it looks like the yokels might be ahead on points.

I think this well sums it up.

“You can have the greatest field program, and we did — he had nothing,” said Jay S. Jacobs, a prominent New York Democrat and donor to Mrs. Clinton. “You can have better ads, paid for by greater funds, and we did. Unfortunately, Trump had the winning argument.”

At last election time, Trump spent money to Romney.and R won against Vegas billionaire supporting Gingrich. Then Romney dropped Trump, Billionaire''s support, Romney was nominated but los to Obama. Romney disrupted Trump on this election And Trump won. Despite of such experience, Trump invited Romney. Seems Trump does not keep grudge. He is.inviting anyone who can help him to lead country. Btw, his wife will be first first lady who speak five foreign language.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

One of the best explanations I've read.

So how do you explain-away Trump’s election if you think you are smart and you think you are well-informed and you think Trump is OBVIOUSLY a monster?

You solve for that incongruity by hallucinating – literally – that Trump supporters KNOW Trump is a monster and they PREFER the monster. In this hallucination, the KKK is not a nutty fringe group but rather a symbol of how all Trump supporters must feel. (They don’t. Not even close.)

In a rational world it would be obvious that Trump supporters include lots of brilliant and well-informed people. That fact – as obvious as it would seem – is invisible to the folks who can’t even imagine a world in which their powers of perception could be so wrong. To reconcile their world, they have to imagine all Trump supporters as defective in some moral or cognitive way, or both.
