Thank god we don't live in China under the CCP!

This is bad news for all of us

Scary expression. Another example of 'newspeak' courtesy of a modern authoritarian regime.

What it does not include are scientifically based measures against the highly contagious omicron variants, nor respect for the human rights of the public.
More worthless measures made exclusively for show, disinfection do not lower significantly the risk from COVID, and instead increase the risk for the health of the public being exposed.
And even seeing this people refuse to accept the Chinese government is censoring information about the outbreaks.
I can't even begin to imagine how the residents feel seeing how other countries can have a control of the pandemic with minimum deaths and health problems using reasonable measures while they have to endure losing their rights, health and even life because their government refuse to accept it is doing things wrong.
When even the WHO says your strategy is bound to fail it can't get more obvious.

This was how majority of the nations in the world had dealt with the virus two years ago. It's funny how the world looks at it now as something ridiculous when that's them exactly two years ago.

Madness.

Since the "approved" part is different from the actual world consensus that is still easy to see as invalid. The whole point is to act in congruency with the best measures according to the science in general, not just what is approved to be considered by those in power.
The label is properly used for people that choose to repeat false and debunked information against the world scientific consensus and justify being right (and the scientists and doctors of the world being all wrong) in a supposed conspiracy without proof.
First this is false, the measures of the Chinese government are unjustified exaggerations, and second they are less effective than other measures that are readily available (such as effective vaccines), specially against highly contagious variants like omicron.
One thing is to do painful but necessary things because there is nothing else to do and they are at least effective (as two years ago) another completely different is to ignore other ways to do things that have been proved to be better just because the priority is to control the public, which is what China is doing right now.

This is an absolute horror show. Chinese people would be well-advised to escape to somewhere rural, as city dwellers are being imprisoned in their homes or herded off to quarantine camps.

That is completely false, even with the invalid way of counting deaths other countries have lower rates, same with infections. If you adapt the death rates of the rest of the world the same China is not even included in the best 20.
That is the problem, is is not necessary at all, other countries have keep death rates lower by putting forward much more reasonable measures (like effective vaccination of the whole population), this is done by the government of China without any need, just because they do not want to recognize to be doing things wrong (and because being an authoritarian country lets them get away with it).

Glad I don't live in China.

Bronco, I do hope you are being ironic?
Good, well done China, I fully approve of these measures, keep it up!
You couldn’t ask for a more effective way to undermine their economy or bring in to question the legitimacy of the CCP to run the country.
How not to manage the situation as virusrex rightly pointed out.

I know … I’ll be called a communist…. Last week many were calling Kishida a dictator for his plan on slowly reopening the borders with guided tours …. But whatever…. The only way a “zero Covid” strategy will work is if every country employs it…. Uniformly… that ship has apparently sailed…. So it’s each man to his own …. Because with the mindsets of the anti everything clans around the world …. They still whine a mask is an infringement of personal liberties….

Look at those crazy countries with stupidly restrictive coronavirus rules!
Oh wait....
virusrex
restrictive measures against alpha variant were very effective at stopping transmission at a time where the risk of infection was much higher than now (thanks to the vaccines and the change of prevalent variant).
But doing it now? when omicron makes it impossible to be successful and when much better measures means infections represent a much lower risk? that is what makes the policy nonsense right now.

No surprise !
And yes, Covid minus as I was had quarantine in Japan and under threat of arrest
in the UK.
So, not that remarkable to see this in China
painkiller
No, but Japan did the same thing to thousands re-entering the country.
"Experts have determined that all Nanxinyuan residents undergo centralised quarantine beginning midnight May 21 for seven days,"
Some quarantined for 10 days in Japan.
You don't define "successful", but China has a lower rate of infections than the US, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Brazil, and on and on. And experiencing positive economic growth throughout the entire crisis.
Sounds like a starting point for the meaning of successful.

Total lie.
Govt didn't mandate, with goons/pseudo-police, that we stay home. They encouraged outdoor exercise, away from others. Grocery stores where never closed. Never. Take-away was never stopped at any restaurant, though dining in was against the rules. The govt never mandated our cell phones become tracking devices. That part is really good since I don't have a cell phone connected to any cell network. I use it more like an iPod (though I'd never have any Apple products).
I've never been tested for COVID, voluntarily or forced. Never had any symptoms.
Of course, if I was traveling or spent time in crowded places, then my risks would be higher and it would be up to me so meet the testing standards required by airlines.
As for the early deaths in my country, I blame China for their secrecy and allowing international travel when they'd shut down intra-China travel. Seems they wanted to spread the virus. They withheld and jailed doctors trying to share information about the virus with other doctors outside China.
The deaths after the first 6 months, I'm going to blame on the exPrez and his snake-oil methods, lies, and specific steps to remove experts who's job it was to lead the federal response to any infectious disease. After that, the anti-vax people, especially the far right political people, caused about 30% more deaths with misinformation. I hope they are proud.
Too much lying in the world.
virusrex
Having a higher death rate (even without including the deaths caused by the disruption of the the health services) than countries that do not have to trample human rights, is not a success, because it means other countries have had better results with less costs. The economic growth is in spite the policy and not because of it. Cases by themselves are not the problem, specially asymptomatic ones, success would be limiting hospitalizations and deaths without having to oppress the population.
kurisupisu
Surely, if the Chinese had effective vaccines then the need to starve and imprison their own people wouldn’t be necessary?
Obviously, they don’t and COVID and it’s variants are something other than a mere virus in the minds of the CCP.
