Hundreds of thousands across Australia. Good on ya!

Protester James Cummings, a Sydney local, said it was "not the right day to be celebrating a national day".

Sadly, this article is quite sensationalistic with many untruths. The date of Australia is not the actual date Australia became a nation. It was January 18. This 'Invasion Day' banner is also sensationalistic. It's true the first Australians were persicuted in the first 150 years of settlement and many resoration efforts have been made. These protest rallies are organised by troublemakers who are intent on disrupting any and all negotiations of resorations. It wouldn't matter what date it was, they would still protest. Many were complaining that Australia should not have a public holiday to celebrate its national day. There was some joker on the news this evening exclaiming everybody should move out of Sydney and give it back to the first Australians. This article does not mention anything about what has been for the first Australian people. They have been given a lot of land and landmarks. All their culturally significant areas have been recognised, most of which have been protected by law. They are given free housing, which is abused. They are given interest free loans for vehicles that never get paid back.

By the way, these people are not indigenous to Australia. They are indigenous to Africa and came to Australia some 40,000 years ago.

Jolly good. I didn't consult my Australian family about this because it is none of my business.

Which viewpoint re Austraia Day and colonisation should be believed? That of these protesters or aboriginal leaders such as senator Jacinta Nampijinmpa Price and Warren Mundine?

No it wasn't. Federation and the creation of Australia happened on January 1st, 1901.

40,000 years ago? What about the "indigenous to Australia"? Are the born ex nihilo?

How about no... we're not going to lectured to by radical activists from a certain political spectrum who hate democracy and capitalism and yet live off our taxes.

These clowns are welcome to leave Australia and live in You Know Where. Go protest over there, I’m sure you will appreciate Australia Day when you are under control of the CCP.

Happy Australia Day.

For goodness sake. Race race race, all anyone wants to do is talk about race.

We're all just humans!

As far as history goes, we live in the least racist time in the history of the world. (the word racist gets thrown around, but who actually believes that a whole race of people are lesser just because of their race. Not many! "Racist" thoughts are usually more to do with financial inequality leading to higher instances of crime in some communities etc. Not because people believe their race is lesser.

Any large land mass with a small native population was going to be taken over by someone at some point.

If the English didn't, the French or Dutch or the Japanese or the Chinese would.

Let's not forget, native tribal populations fought amongst themselves, raping, killing, taking slaves. EVERYONE was as barbaric as each other, it's just that some had better technology and weapons than others.

When the Maori, for example, went to the Chatham Islands off NZ's coast, they all but wiped out the Maori-Ori who were there.

It is what it is. What happened, happened. Let's celebrate that in 2024 we're all alive and living in the great countries we live in.

We are all so lucky

sheesh, it commemorates the date the first colony was created, January 26 1788.

Without that, you wouldn't have modern-day Australia. That was quite literally, the start of what would lead to modern Australia, which EVERYONE alive today enjoys - aboriginal, Australians of European decent, recent immigrants and refugees.

The first day convicts were brought to build the houses and roads

Then maybe prisoners should protest too? Acknowledge the past, but focus on the present and future.

A better day would be the date of federation.

You're right. But it's Jan 26th. So everyone can cry about it or celebrate what Australia is today. The latter is far better for everyone.

People these days just want to play victim whenever they can. I'm gay but I'm not asking for apologies for the past. It was what it was back then - people believed what they believed and acted how they acted. We progressed. Let's all enjoy our life!

Australia is a great country, as is NZ, America, the UK, Japan etc. We're all so lucky.

Happy Australia Day! Happy being alive day! (everyday)

In Sydney, thousands of protesters, many waving Indigenous flags,

In the biggest show if stupid irony, many loonies waving Hamas sponsored flags.

A terror organization that is an extension of Arab states that invaded Israel on the day of its establishment, and most recently invaded Israel to commit a massacre.

26 January is Invasion Day, always was and always will be. Change the date and the colonial flag.
