You have the freedom to socialize, breath freely and take a walk in the park. Just do it with a mask on.

I wonder why the UK has the highest death toll in Europe? Could it possibly be because we have the largest number of idiots?

5 ( +18 / -13 )

As the crowds began to swell in Trafalgar Square, it became impossible for people to maintain social distancing

You don't say? They are are protesting your stupid rules!

Go Britain, don't let them take away your liberties.

The Western world is being destroyed by neo-liberal policies.

Death toll is not related to the virus. It is related to disgraceful govt policy, exposure in retirement homes, false and confusing advise, and basically one of the worst levels of personal public health. Diabetes, Obesity, Diet, poverty, alcohol/substance abuse. Then there are the depression, suicide, domestic violence etc from lockdowns.

wearing a mask in an open-space public park is a pretty stupid idea.

1 ( +11 / -10 )

Look at all those simpletons. Hasn't anyone in the UK heard that lockdowns and masks work??

Talk about uneducated.....

-5 ( +9 / -14 )

Seriously, what is it with the British and their inability to accept science???

Just sad to see. Darwinism at work right here...

-4 ( +8 / -12 )

“Hasn't anyone in the UK heard that lockdowns and masks work??”

As a long-term measure? Nope. And we are at least 6 months into this nonsense now.

@bob

We have our fair share of idiots. Our Idiotic conservative PM went around shaking hands and ended up in hospital with Covid. Clown.

Remember this from yesterday?

50000 Britons protested against the UK lockdown today in Trafalgar Square.

Must be pretty embarrassing for those involved in an earlier thread which depicted Midwest Americans as toothless, right-wing morons digging their own graves for much smaller protests.

I don't suppose the Trafalgar Square protest will make the news on JT, will it?

Oops. Don’t be so paranoid. It isn’t a conspiracy.

As if the UK didn't have problems enough, it's depressing to see this American-style madness taking hold amongst the gullible:

StandUpX, is a generic protest movement – anti-everything from Bill Gates to facemasks. Fronted by weather forecaster and conspiracy theorist Piers Corbyn, brother of former Labour leader Jeremy, it started off as an anti-lockdown movement in late June, and for a while it seemed to be your standard fare of anti-vaxx, anti-lockdown, anti-corporate, anti-5G megagroup, prone to leaning left rather than Trump. But if you looked closely enough, you could see it soaking up QAnon under your eyes. A video of a protest posted on the group’s Instagram on July 10 features, fleetingly, one woman in the crowd waving a Q-slogan banner, and stating “we are run by paedophiles.” On July 23, a video of protesters besieging the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s London office ended with an interview of an activist discussing "elite paedophilia rings". By August 22, a protest in Liverpool erupted with QAnon slogan “where we go one, we go all”. From then on, it was all David Icke, #saveourchildren and pizza slices. So much so that shortly after a big protest in London, in September, StandUpX’s open group – boasting about 40,000 followers – was shut down by Facebook. Its pizza-covered Instagram page survives.

It really is just the modern version of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Jimmy - I gotta admit. I didn't think for a second it would be reported. But since I'm still waiting to see any mention of the YUGE stories about Obama's FBI using a Russian spy to frame Trump, or Hunter Biden's 3 million dollar gift from the Moscow mayor's wife, I think you could excuse me.

Alfie - I get it. This nasty business of UK protests is the fault of horrible Americans and the sway they have on British culture. Can't these jerks see that they have to LOCK DOWN to save us all?? But what can you expect from 50000 white supremicists?

Helloooo! Charles Darwin on line 1....

-15 ( +1 / -16 )

bob - the reason you’re not seeing much is cause it’s a big nothing burger like your Benghazi witch trials, and the media isn’t biting on those anymore.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

I bet all of them still think Brexit is a good idea...

2 ( +9 / -7 )

No more masks

No more lies

No more virus

No more lockdown..

These are what some British still believe. Flabbergasting. Perhaps they can't be bothered or even refuse to acknowledge that 1 million lives have already gone worldwide.

-5 ( +7 / -12 )

Goodlucktoyou....I include the government at the very top of the list of idiots! Releasing elderly covid cases back into care homes is beyond idiotic. And yes, wearing a mask while walking alone in a park is pointless but in a shop, train or other crowded place is not such a bad idea.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Out of work in the UK?

The government has caused this not the virus

How can people live without work?

They can’t but they can live with a virus...

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

and this is exactly why the UK has higher deaths per capita than almost ever EU country, Belgium being the highest by far, being run by a right wing nutter you can understand why

0 ( +5 / -5 )

They can’t but they can live with a virus...

41000 UK citizens cant theyre already dead

2 ( +7 / -5 )

I would guess that the number of deaths is high amongst the unfit and elderly.

Certainly the north of the country has seen a high number of deaths due to preexisting conditions, healthy people usually recover from the virus...

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

People fnally had enough with the muzzling? That encouraging to read.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

wtfjapan

41000 UK citizens cant theyre already dead

...you do realize that people die every day anyway, from all sorts of things. Including from losing their job and beling licked in at home (the most unhealthy condition, seeing that fresh air, movement, and sunshine is the most important thing to stay healthy and ward off viruses)

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

I can understand people are upset if they are out of work or their businesses are hurt because of the restrictions. However, I still do not understand why many people refuse to wear a mask in public places. There are face masks that are comfortable to wear. I do not hear people complaining about they need to wear shorts or pants outside their houses.

Do I really need a mask to a take a walk in the park by myself.

I want to freely breathe the fresh clean air for my health and well being.

You guys are Orwellian extremists.

Nope. However, may I remind you that you breath through your nose, not your mouth. Just pull your mask down from your nose then you can freely breathe the fresh clean air. If you still insist on arguring over a bloody mask. You are a spoiler brat.

Gosh "bob", you must be psychic. The bloody-faced guy in the photos is one Paul Dobbs from Cheshire. He's got form, being arrested before at the infamous Dover Riots. He was sacked by Virgin Media from his engineer job in 2018 for racially abusing his colleagues. He was a regular on the Nazi social media site Gab under the name 14BombTheBoats88. You a friend of his or something?

Seriously, what is it with the British and their inability to accept science???

At the beginning of the 19th century, they believed rain caused horse hairs to change into worms....

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

And then, they will blame Government for infection. These idiots are really doing stupid thing.

How many peoples will be infected with Corronavirus and died in this crowd?

That's why the UK has highest fatality rate from Coronavirus Covid-19 in Europe.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I think many people are making the mistake of labelling the protest to suit their own politics.

You should watch some interviews of the people who were demonstrating. Quite interesting to see what type of people made up the protest:

Chop Chop

Err, no, it does not. Belgium and Spain are ahead of the UK. And they both have strict lockdowns.

In fact, if you look at the leading countries for Corona death rate, they all had strict lockdowns*. So no, the narrative that lockdowns save lifes does not match reality.

*Sweden is a special case, in that they were on top early, but are now done with virus and are streadily going lower in the ranking.

The sign about pubs boils it down for some in England. To some extent the restrictions affect many on a cultural level and not just as a matter of freedom and individual responsibility. There needs to be compromise to allow for freedom to associate and for promote public health.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Can't get back to anything normal until the virus is under control. The virus numbers will continue to porpoise as people continue to spread it.

The cavalier attitude about deaths is what societies do during wars - hey, it can't be helped. But just like in war, for every person who dies, there are 7 or 8 injured by the virus with symptoms lasting still after months with no idea how long they will last.

As long as it's someone else's relative dying, it's not a big deal - let me go to the pub because I've been turned into an alcoholic by a society that thinks it's fun and clever to be a drunken slob.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Typically simplistic, skewed and politically motivated way of looking at this. There are so many other factors involved. Some countries which had lockdowns have incredibly low death rates and cases. You love to mention Sweden. Compare Sweden’s numbers with its Nordic neighbours. That is the most like-for-like comparison in this case and even there there are variables involved. Anyway, let’s try Norway:

Norway - 13,000 cases, 270 deaths.

Sweden - 90,000 cases, 5,880 deaths.

Sweden has roughly double the population.

We are not stupid here. I don’t like the hysterical types either but your simplistic and misleading posts are unhelpful.

Err, what? I said the countries with highest death rates in Europe all lockdowns. I was simply stating a fact that you check yourself.

Take a look at the leading countries (death rate per mill):

San Marino: death rate 1237, lockdown

Belgium: death rate 860, lockdown

Andorra: death rate 686, lockdown

Spain: death rate 668, lockdown

UK: death rate 618, lockdown

Italy: death rate 593, lockdown

Sweden: death rate 581, no lockdown, AND no new deaths.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Which of those countries implemented the lockdown before they hit skyrocketing rates of Covid vs. the ones that implemented it after they hit skyrocketing rates?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@Zaphod

Death rates per mil. Take a look at this:

Sweden: 581

Norway: 50

Denmark: 112

Finland: 62

These are the best countries to compare with Sweden.

You can’t keep dodging this. Please explain.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Sweden: death rate 581, no lockdown, AND no new deaths.

countries with strong lockdowns

Taiwan less than 1

Japan 11.5

Singapore 4.8

South Korea 7.1

China 3.4

New Zealand 5.1

Australia 32.9

yeah night and day isnt it
