But my voters need their military (style) assault rifles to kill raccoons, possums and other such critters. To deny them that right would be UN-American!

But what about regular hunting gun?

Dagnamit! Ain’t you listenin’, boy? It would be un-American! Every American man, woman and child should be armed as such, just like in the good ole days! Then crime would go down. You’ll see!

9 ( +14 / -5 )

Dismantle the NRA as the first step, then ban all military style assault rifles. More Americans die from their own guns and rifles than in a wars.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

I am really hoping that a change will finally take place, Lunatics with guns are destroying the very basic right of every American to live in peace and security.

11 ( +15 / -4 )

""March for Our Lives"" and that is exactly what it is.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

You can’t take the trailer home out of rednecks and can’t take the off-shore bank accounts out of arms dealers/manufacturers, my ma used to say.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

Its just not going to happen. No amount of hiding, deflection or wanting to change the subject for political or social ratings will not stop that. When you’re not allowed to talk about the issues don’t expect and never expect anything to get done. We can’t sugarcoat what we like and Cherry-pick what we want or how we should push the issue and that’s the problem with the left. They demand (funny) that action be taken, but they don’t want to seriously debate the issue. As long as they won’t do that, nothing will ever change, but thinking that Washington will abolish the NRA is just as nutty as conservatives thinking they can outlaw abortion, again, it’s just not going to happen.

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

Arguing that gun deaths are insignificant compared to heart disease deaths and calling for less fried chicken. Ok.

No one said that, but the reality is and not the want to believe fake reality that the left is pushing that guns are the main cause of death in the US is just not dealing with reality. Again, we can’t have a decent discussion about the issue because the left doesn’t want it, they want to bully the right and congress to take action and that’s just not going to happen.

Then Americans should be more concerned about health than owning a gun.

They are, got to California and Florida.

You need better healthcare not the NRA.

No, you need to take personal responsibility not more government intrusion.

You should be more afraid of KFC than a home invasion.

Depends on where you live

Why do you need a gun to protect yourself if gun deaths are at ‘the bottom of the barrel’?

“Law-abiding” Americans can do as they feel because they can and it’s none of our business how they exercise that right.

-11 ( +4 / -15 )

Sounds like all these Liberals are super mad at the Democrat government and want to vote them out.

i agree.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

A bipartisan group of senators had hoped to reach agreement this week on a framework for addressing the issue and held talks Friday, but no deal was announced.

Those senators still not willing to cast a vote for addressing the issues must have their staff trying to determine how much money they could lose in contributions from the guns and ammo industries and their lobbies if they do not toe the line the domestic-war enabling industries have set. Many guns and ammo businesses have made fortunes selling guns and ammo. How many businesses manufacture the AR-15, and the ammo it shoots. Name those businesses and shame them, and name and shame the politicians that the guns industries have bought.

Long, long passed time for some steps to be taken to reduce the carnage. Time for non-gun owners and sensible gun owners to say enough is too much. Trump tried to say bump stocks should be restricted after the Las Vegas massacre at the country-western concert, but was there any follow through on that, or do some of the 'but my-freedom' extremists still have them, even though their Trump said they should not.

""Manuel Oliver, whose son, Joaquin, was killed in the Parkland shooting, called on students "to avoid going back to school until our elected leaders stop avoiding the crisis of gun violence in America and start acting to save our lives.”"

""avoid going back to school until our elected leaders stop avoiding the crisis of gun violence""

This might actually work!! Future generations are being targeted and killed while sitting defenseless in schools, staying home is a much better place to be till lawmakers provide the motivations to go back to schools.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Nothing will change. The GOP will see to that.

Fully agree. Take the kids out of the public school ststem. It will definitely benefit America considering the fact that American kids are getting bombarded by leftist indoctrination instead of actually learning the three Rs.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

The GOP will see to that.

The GOP is not in charge and are not “the government” right now.

well not until after November.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

Those senators still not willing to cast a vote for addressing the issues must have their staff trying to determine how much money they could lose in contributions from the guns and ammo industries and their lobbies if they do not toe the line the domestic-war enabling industries have set.

That’s not entirely true. For most gun owners the thought of government intrusion into their private civil liberties is something that gun owners (and rightfully so) feel queasy about.

Many guns and ammo businesses have made fortunes selling guns and ammo.

As do the politicians that are pushing for confiscation of guns or limiting (trying in vain) access to them.

How many businesses manufacture the AR-15, and the ammo it shoots.

Well, it is the most popular hunting rifle in the US. I own one and it’s a good gun. Just because you own one doesn’t mean you’re a murderer or you want to go out and kill someone, that’s just utter nonsense.

Name those businesses and shame them, and name and shame the politicians that the guns industries have bought.

Again, that’s not going to happen. Even Democrats want to get re-elected at some point.

Long, long passed time for some steps to be taken to reduce the carnage.

That won’t happen unless the left wants to talk about mental illness as a huge contributing factor for a lot of these breakdowns where a weapon was used to either harm others or themselves.

Time for non-gun owners and sensible gun owners to say enough is too much.

I would love to have this discussion, but Dems are not sincere in their critical stance on the issue when they get a failing grade on crime, gang and gun prevention, just look at their own cities. If the Dems are truly serious, they should start with enforcing the strict gun laws already in place. Aggressively arrest and prosecute thugs that prey on the weak and innocent, put in hardcore DA’s that will throw the book at these people and make it as painful as possible to ensure that these people will think twice before committing crimes. If they do that, the GOP would definitely meet them halfway. But as of now, just won’t happen.

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

Yea I find it odd that liberals won’t start gun control with inner city criminals and gangs. They know who they are and know they have illegal guns.

but instead liberals want to start with legal guns for hunting and self defense. Go take the guns away from gangs then we can talk about my guns.

America: The evidence is in your face. The U.S. needs the kind of rational gun controls we have in Japan.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

like hiw to make mo ey and manage it

...like how to make money...

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

For those stereotyping Southern redneck as the gun menace, I think you would be surprised at where the vast majority of the gun violence comes from.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Reasonable gun control in the US won't happen until we throw out all the craven, cowardly Repubs who cater to the NRA and the gun nutters...

It's been cited many times - a majority of the public and even a majority of the NRA's own members want common-sense gun control....

https://time.com/5197807/stricter-gun-laws-nra/

But the extremists rule in the Repub Party - to them, the way to solve the gun violence problem is to give everyone more guns....

Like solving the lung cancer problem by giving people more cigarettes...

Responsible gun owners, to include myself, want background checks, want to close gun show loopholes, want age restrictions...and see no reason why anyone other than our military and police need an assault rifle...

But the weak, scared gun nutters can only satisfy their insecurity and sense of powerlessness by hoarding guns in their basements...

Want reasonable gun control? Vote out every Repub from Dog Catcher to Mitch McConnell....

No, we don’t.

-13 ( +3 / -16 )

Reasonable gun control in the US won't happen until we throw out all the craven, cowardly Repubs who cater to the NRA and the gun nutters...

Not going to happen, never and especially this midterm.

…and they also want Democrats to take crime more seriously especially in their own cities.

https://www.personaldefenseworld.com/2022/01/democrat-cities-break-homicide-records/

But the extremists rule in the Repub Party

They don’t, but the upcoming Republicans do want to put the establishment on notice and the establishment doesn’t like it one bit.

Responsible gun owners, to include myself, want background checks, want to close gun show loopholes, want age restrictions...and see no reason why anyone other than our military and police need an assault rifle...

As a gun owner, I am not necessarily opposed to background checks if they work, but they don’t case in point….

But the weak, scared gun nutters can only satisfy their insecurity and sense of powerlessness by hoarding guns in their basements...

More name calling? Ok and?

Vote out every Repub from Dog Catcher to Mitch McConnell....

Now on that one I just might agree with you for once.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

Biden claims to want to combat gun violence, yet he isn’t proposing ANYTHING that addresses inner city gun violence, which accounts for nearly 90% of all gun related crimes in our country. Oh, and their weapon of choice is ILLEGALLY owned handguns. So how does restricting options for law abiding LEGAL gun owners, combat gun violence if nothing they proposed addresses the group of people committing the majority of the gun violence?

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

LOL. Your prediction accuracy leaves a lot to be desired...."Trump will win in a landslide"....."Georgia won't turn Blue"....

Fine....keep the Repub civil war going....only helps the Dems....

If you're offended, then I guess it means you think it applies to you...

Vote out every Repub from Dog Catcher to Mitch McConnell....

Now on that one I just might agree with you for once.

Good. Welcome to Team Blue....

Show me any poll that says the odds of Democrats keeping the House are assured. Take your time.

Fine....keep the Repub civil war going....only helps the Dems....

The Dems have their own civil war brewing

https://thehill.com/opinion/3512685-juan-williams-democratic-infighting-could-spell-doom/

If you're offended,

No, no reason to be, as they say, sticks and stones...it's just you doing it means nothing to anyone that values the 2nd amendment, but I get it, when the left has nothing else and nothing tangible to use, then resort to name calling.

Good. Welcome to Team Blue....

No, not a chance, but definitely a go Trump guy all the way.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

So how does restricting options for law abiding LEGAL gun owners, combat gun violence if nothing they proposed addresses the group of people committing the majority of the gun violence?

Especially if the stories are true about Uvalde police doing nothing for nearly an hour while the shooter had his way in the school. Law abiding citizens will be sitting ducks if their guns are removed.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

LOL. Your prediction accuracy leaves a lot to be desired......

Show me any poll that says the odds of Democrats keeping the House are assured. Take your time.

Why would I do that, according to multiple posts in your archive, "polls are useless"....or is this another "flip"?

Fine....keep the Repub civil war going....only helps the Dems....

The Dems have their own civil war brewing

Thanks for agreeing with me....

Good. Welcome to Team Blue....

No, not a chance, but definitely a go Trump guy all the way.

Indeed - keep fighting those traitorous RINOs...like Pence, Barr, McConnell, Cheney....and Ivanka.....LOL...

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Why would I do that

Because I know you can't, no shame in it.

Thanks for agreeing with me....

Which won't help the Dems this winter.

Indeed - keep fighting

Appreciate it, more and more people are rejecting and walking away from the traditional Washington Republican establishment RINOs and that is a very good thing.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

"Law abiding citizens will be sitting ducks if their guns are removed." Actually, they they won't be sitting ducks if guns are removed because there would not be any guns.

Again, I want to say that Japan's regulations are exactly right. Guns are not banned in Japan, but they are regulated so that potential mass shootings don't occur.

The problem in U.S. is that gun laws favor potential and active gun scum, from the mass murderers of children in their schools to their enablers--like the NRA, the Republican Party, the arms companies, the gun sellers and the outright violent criminals.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

"Law abiding citizens will be sitting ducks if their guns are removed." Actually, they they won't be sitting ducks if guns are removed because there would not be any guns.

Ok, now you are living in a fantasy land and how would you propose to ban and get rid of 200 million guns? Search and seizures, asking people to please give them up?

Again, I want to say that Japan's regulations are exactly right. Guns are not banned in Japan, but they are regulated so that potential mass shootings don't occur.

Ok, That is Japan and Japan doesn't have a second amendment and they also don't have article 9 invoked, so if war breaks out, where would most of the guns come from? Yup, from us. What works well in one country does not always work well in another country.

The problem in U.S. is that gun laws favor potential and active gun scum, from the mass murderers of children in their schools to their enablers--like the NRA, the Republican Party, the arms companies, the gun sellers and the outright violent criminals.

That is absolute hogwash.

It’s sad seeing all those people with hope for change, knowing that they won’t get it because their militias need to be armed. The proud boys and oath keepers have shown why the militias need to be armed.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

If they cared about protecting fellow Americans, they'd be demanding that leaders of crime infested cities like Chicago, Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco resign. Instead, nothing but crickets.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

If they cared about protecting fellow Americans, they'd be demanding that leaders of crime infested cities like Chicago, Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco resign. Instead, nothing but crickets.

Exactly, that is the main crux of the problem, these people would have more credibility if they were to do just that, enforce their own state gun laws, but they don't and scream Republicans don't care. Even when it comes to protecting Supreme Court justices (conservative ones) complete silence. That is why no one takes them seriously.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Why would I do that

Because I know you can't, no shame in it.

Proof you've flipped on polls? Easy, just cruise your archive.... No shame in it...

They sure are - taking away a women's rights, guns for everyone, inciting a violent insurrection, getting caught on tape openly lying, promoting white supremacy and antisemitism.....Americans are fed up with the Party of Putin...

5 ( +7 / -2 )

If they cared about protecting fellow Americans, they'd be demanding that leaders of crime infested cities like Chicago, Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco resign. Instead, nothing but crickets.

This is absolutely correct. As the millions of people are not protesting in the way this poster thinks they should, their “protest” is absolutely empty with no meaning and they can, nay, should be, ignored. They clearly hate America.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Proof you've flipped on polls?

It has nothing to do with me and everything to do with this so-called President and his party.

They sure are - taking away a women's rights,

The left is taking the unborn rights away, but the left calls themselves tolerant and yet, they seem quite content and silent when one of their own wants to kill a sitting SC Justice, more signs of the tolerant left. But Pelosi makes sure her life and the safety of her family and husband are protected at all costs. Again, November can't come soon enough.

guns for everyone, inciting a violent insurrection, getting caught on tape openly lying, promoting white supremacy and antisemitism.....Americans are fed up with the Party of Putin...

More name calling and?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Next elections slogan should be:

"Make 'murica America again."

Proof you've flipped on polls?

It has nothing to do with me

Really? Then who posted this above; "Show me any poll that says the odds of Democrats keeping the House are assured."

This after your archive is full of "polls are useless" posts....

They sure are - taking away a women's rights,

The left is taking the unborn rights away,

And the right wants to let them die in school shootings.... Why edit the post and delete the rest?

guns for everyone, inciting a violent insurrection, getting caught on tape openly lying, promoting white supremacy and antisemitism.....Americans are fed up with the Party of Putin...

More offense?

That is why no one takes them seriously.

Yep, no one. These protestors aren’t doing it right so they mean nothing. Right?

…right?

3 ( +7 / -4 )

more and more people are rejecting and walking away from the traditional Washington Republican establishment RINOs and that is a very good thing.

Looks more like Animal Farm every day.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Restricting guns might feel good, but will it actually have any impact on crime? A determined criminal will get guns from whatever source they want, a law wont deter them. Ditto restrictions on "military style" assault rifles. This is a shibboleth trotted out by anti-gun fanatics who actually don't know much about guns, probably never even held one in their lives, and are comfortably smug in their ignorance.

The crime problem is largely handguns. Handguns in cities used by young men against one another in street level crime, usually involving drugs or petty disputes. Even if you could eliminate EVERY murder committed with EVERY rifle/shotgun/"assault rifle", it would only be a drop in the bucket. But politicians refuse to admit that the trouble lies in the culture more than the gun.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Clean up your own cities from crime first.

Yeah, liberal protesters! First eliminate violent crime in Chicago and then we can maybe consider taking reasonable, easily achievable restrictions on assault weapons. Like not letting teenagers buy them.

You've heard of "Occam's razor" I hope.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

A determined criminal will get guns from whatever source they want

Then why are crimes like these far less common in, say, Canada?

the trouble lies in the culture more than the gun.

The gun culture is the problem. Inadequate regulation of gun ownership and use is a recipe for disaster in any society.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

US gun control will only come, if and when the people and communities agree the measures are necessary.

It will ultimately require a change in the constitution.

The industry is huge employer, and provides tax dollars to the US economy. There is not escape from that fact.

The NRA would not exist if the market for arming the people culturally was not engrained.

Whether conservative or democrat.

This not one sided politically.

A person/customer chooses to buy a Gun.

That is the poll of polls, the retailer doesn't quip conservative or democrat, does the democrat choose the hand gun, whilst the republican plumb for the assault rifle?

Let be realistic US has a guns culture ever since Wyatt Earp O.K. Corral shootout.

It was uncontrollable then.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Yeah, liberal protesters! First eliminate violent crime in Chicago and then we can maybe consider taking reasonable, easily achievable restrictions on assault weapons. Like not letting teenagers buy them.

Well, if they did that that would Build up the credibility and see more believable and then the Republicans will be ready to definitely sit down and listen to some of the ideas

You've heard of "Occam's razor" I hope

Yes

Then why are crimes like these far less common in, say, Canada?

The average American could care less how Canada runs its political affairs

The gun culture is the problem. Inadequate regulation of gun ownership and use is a recipe for disaster in any society.

I don’t think the gun culture is a problem, I think it is the implementation of the laws that are set in place they have been totally ignored and the same goes for crime itself, they just recalled the San Francisco DA and the Los Angeles DA Gascon seems like to be on his way out as well and then perhaps the district attorney in New York as well, these are the people that make it unsafe to live in the United States, not the guns

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Good luck. Maybe some meaningful change can finally be made.

As much as I echo this sentiment, I remain completely skeptical. This is one time I hope I am completely wrong, though.
