What clothing line and what millions of dollars? If his campaign has some of their souvenirs made in China, they will have to pay the same tariffs as everyone else. Nobody by the way has ever said that all trade with China must be stopped completely. That would be ridiculous.

It seems to be working for China.

You are equating lack of freedom with communism.

It may have come across that way but Cuba is Communist also, they have more freedoms but they dont use capitalism.

People in Iran have lack of freedom under a theocracy which obviously does not describe itself as communist.

Correct, theocracy and Communism are different means of ruling but both can have serious lack of freedoms.

Many people seem to have forgotten that the Tiananmen protests were the culmination of 6 months of race riots against African exchange students starting in Nanjing earlier that year. The students burned down the dormitories and chased Africans through the streets after accusing them of bringing Chinese women back to the dorms in violation of the rules. The rage against the Chinese government only began after the police cracked down brutally on the rioting students, and things snowballed to other universities from there. This is why when you look at the images from Tiananmen there are students holding signs saying 'Protect Chinese Women'.

It seems like much of this history has been overlooked and replaced with the more palatable narrative that the students were advocates of freedom and democracy after reading about it in their textbooks.

Tiananmen Square is where the last free Chinese citizens were shown the power of Communist China to induce silence and compliance, through lawful murder by the state against the people.

We remember them and their strength, we remember their goal and their sacrifice. Never to be forgotten and the world ensures they will never truly be silenced.

Thanks linc, I'd not seen that quote before but it just goes to show that he admires brute strength and authoritarianism. Especially when it comes to the millitary. You can see how Macron's parade affected him, for example.

I remember watching the horrors of Tiananmen unfold. For a few days, we'd felt hope as stories came out of China of the soldiers dropping their weapons and joining the protesters. Sadly, it was false hope.

We may never know the full, bloody toll of the massacre.

But one day, the people will rise again. It's inevitable.

The Tiannamen square massacre was young, idealists standing up for their rights getting brutally suppressed and killed.

There are no massacres happening in the US yet, but the young and idealistic are again getting suppressed.

I lived in Taiwan in '94 and remember every shop had a TV out front to broadcast what news was known (everyone remembers Beijing, but few remember the atrocities committed in the further flung cities which were not recorded) and the sudden influx of non-Chinese to Taiwan seeking haven.

Yep. Those who keep repeating the idea of ‘Communist China’ should actually listen to what the bully boys in the CCP actually say these days instead of parroting whatever garbage media they are taking in. The CCP hardly mention Communism these days. One Chinese coworker commented to me that it is quite hard to keep up the front of communist values when you have the world’s second largest number of billionaires along one of the world’s largest wealth gaps.

China, China, China. I think the whole world is FED UP with this country by now. The Coronavirus, Hong Kong, Taiwan, colonizing Africa, stealing technology and know-how from other countries. The WHO claimed that China did not share information about Covid but of course, China denied it. So frustrating having to deal with such a country.

At first I thought that is hyperbole, but then I remembered the organ trade that the CCP is conducting with political prisoners as a source. Yes, if you are HK resident and have been vocal against the CCP, this can very well be a question of life or death.

In Hong Kong, a law is being passed to make it a crime to disrespect China’s national anthem and 15 well-known veteran activists were arrested and charged with organizing and taking part in illegal demonstrations. Those actions are seen as part of a steady erosion of civil rights Hong Kong was guaranteed when it was handed over from British to Chinese rule in 1997.

A guarantee by the CCP is like the guarantee of a shady used car salesman.
