Golf will collapse with Tiger gone and it will return to the game of retired white dudes who dress badly.

“I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people

You hear that? Those of you feeling the above have been acknowledged by Tiger Woods. Do you feel special now? That is what I think this media attention is really about, and I am sorry that Tiger felt the need to pander to such infantile little people throughout the world. Some people need to get a life.

But lets be clear why he bothers to address lowlife scum who suck off his his life and athletic ability to give their lowly existence some meaning: first of all it is too improve his public image and thus keep the sponsorships and the money, second its a proof to his wife of his sincerity.

This does worry the PGA. It'll take lots of business and followers away from the sport. Tiger has been a phenomenom (sp) for golf. < :-)

lol, classic...

Tiger Woods to take 'indefinite' leave from golf

Let's just hope we don't see him turn up dressed in a black trench coat hassling young women. "Down tiger, down!"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Golf will collapse with Tiger gone and it will return to the game of retired white dudes who dress badly" Absolutely correct!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A year ago, he was out of golf for eight months while recovering from reconstructive knee surgery, and U.S. television ratings dropped 50% during his absence.

Maybe the PGA will exercise whatever weight they have and convince the press to STFU in the future? Tiger playing golf also sells newspapers.

If one person dropping out means no one wants to watch the game... it's a pretty boring game to start off with.

Good luck with patching things up, Elin. If it were me I think I would take the however many millions were promised you in the prenup, and the kids, and leave.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It is a boring game to anyone that has not golfed even a little bit in their time. I spent many of my teener yrs as a caddy at a very costly golf course where I sometimes practiced with a 9 iron while waiting to be called to duty.

I can understand Tennis, or baseball, to hockey for I use to play hockey as a young 'un to played basically soft-ball though tack on speed-skating comp for I did that & same with m/c competition for some 42 yrs.

So you understand the sport if you have been in it a bit AND yes I did quit a bit of curling up untill a few yrs ago.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree, with the Tiger gone the game will revert to Ojisans and another hentai meets his fate.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Er... YuriOtani, to use a Japanese expression, 'one word too many'.

numbskull -- glad to see that your posts continue to be nothing but a foolish defense of Tiger's right to privacy. Have you not got a clue as to what happened here? The man was a serial cheater and liar, and when caught, demanded his privacy, and lashed out at the "vultures" in the press, in the hopes the entire sorted mess would not come out -- and hurt his earnings. He wasn't doing it to protect his wife or kids. If he cared about them, he would have not been boinking about a dozen women in the last few years, and he would have offered this kind of apology on Day 1, not on Day 15, when he has been exposed for the charade that he is. First it was "a situation", then it was "transgressions", and now, finally, it is "infidelity". He's nothing but a player who got caught, and you blaming the press for his downfall is confusing the problem with the issue. (Borrowed from John Hawke of the Golf Channel.) His problem with Elin is not the press -- it's his cheating. Stop blaming the press for doing their jobs. NBC sports pays millions to the PGA to showcase Tiger on TV. Their news division has a right to see if they are getting what they pay for.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

herefornow: glad to see that your posts continue to be nothing but a foolish defense of Tiger's right to privacy.

And I am not glad to see that despite getting proven wrong again and again that you refuse to admit defeat.

Tiger's marital problems are none of your business or anyone elses. Neither is his extra-marital social live. You want to watch him play golf and eat up his interviews, go right ahead. Tiger agreed to those.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This will bring him closer to the Black community, which he has neglected.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tiger deserves everything coming to him.

A serial adulterer by the looks of things.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Headline should read

Tiger Woods to take 'infidelity' leave from golf

because thats wat it is anyway!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

14 out of 15 commets seem to be takig the high road against TW. I'm surprised. Anyone who has followed his career from Junior (14-15 years old) and seen some of his earlier tournaments, building into the world No.1 he is today probably think like I do that this 2 weeks of silence followed by a statement to leave golf to try and repair the damage to his family life matches right up with the TW we feel we know. Infidelity began with drinking. So drinking is going to have to come off his list of hobbies. So is visiting night clubs. Not being on the tour will eliminate that temptation. Who the xxx knows whether its too late to patch things up between Elin and Tiger? Maybe they really love each other. Anyone think of that? If so than why did he say this and do that? you will respond, but hello, who of us is perfect, and without fault? Let him cast the first stone. Good luck Tiger and Elin. If higher powers can help heal the stench of life violations, there's still time to get things on track! I imagine we might not see Tiger until 2011 at earliest.

SushiSake3: Tiger deserves everything coming to him. A serial adulterer by the looks of things.

So many great people are. The question is, is it something lies by the wayside on the road to greatness, or is it part of asphalt?

If and when he comes back to golf, and we are sure he is not sleeping around, if his game is off, I am sure some reason will be thought up and it won't have anything to do with his new found ho-hum sex life and feelings of being a Tiger in a cage at the zoo. Nope. Anything from an electrolyte imbalance to that old knee injury acting up will be warmly accepted though.

Cleo

While I agree with you, what if it was the other way around and it was his wife who was cheating. Would tiger taking the kids and money be the right choice as well. It just seems that if a man does it its way off the scale of low life things to do in a marriage, but when its a woman more than often people question what the man wasnt giving to his wife to make here prowl.

I guess the good news is this headline dosent have the word "rape" in it. Hopefully they can get this sorted out for them not for the game, but you have to agree it has a OJ tingle doesnt it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

DXXJP

Well I dunno about the rich and famous, but I'm pretty sure that if I slept around Mr cleo would be gone the moment he found out, and I couldn't blame him in the least. The kids are too big to take anywhere now, but if they were little I reckon they would be with their dad - he wouldn't leave them with a woman who had demonstrated that strangers and/or her own pleasure were more important than her family.

One reason not to mess up a marriage by fooling around.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Golf... boring.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

DXXJP, as far as who gets more condemnation for sleeping around, today's western society in general might lean more toward the man, but its no where near universal with everyone in any society. I have seen women take a lot of heat and men treated as unwitting slaves to God given desire and therefore all but blameless. Either way, the double standard is extremely ugly.

Cleo, there is a big difference between loving someone on the side and sleeping with total strangers, and sleeping with total strangers, a much more dangerous practice, often seems to be the result of thinking loving someone on the side is so bad and holding on to that until an explosion occurs.

And sexual satisfaction is no mere pleasure. It is recognized as a need at both the bottom and middle tiers of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, which is widely accepted. And you might wish that that need could be satisfied only among spouses, but wishing it won't make it possible. As I suggested above, his superior golf game could rest upon his sexual satisfaction, and while he will never sink to my level of golf, he could very well lose his peak performance for applying this inhuman sexual fidelity idea out.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"As I suggested above, his superior golf game could rest upon his sexual satisfaction,"

Thats a little creepy.

Tiger excelled from childhood.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is exactly as per my suggestion posted here when the news first appeared on JT.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tiger's performance came from his golfing ability, period. Not his many extra-marrital outings in my opinion. He probably would already have reached Nichlaus's 18 championships had he not had so many. And he certainly won't need any crutch of an excuse once he comes back, assuming that he does. TW is one of the greatest sportmen of all time, bar none, in any sport. Jack Nicklaus once commented, "A real champion just knows how to get it in the hole when its necessary". Its like Jordan, and Montana, and Getzky and Sorrenstram all knew how to do, at the time it needed to be done. I've been curious though, that the golfing public might want to drop their shouting out of "in the hole" that has become all the rage in recent years? But didn't exist before Tiger's time.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

numbskull -- You make me laugh. The only one proven wrong here time and time again is yourself. I stated early on that Tiger's initial plea for privacy was nothing more than an attempt by him and his handlers to try to minimize the damage to his image and his potential legal liability to his sponsors. (Remember I referenced about "morals clauses"?) And, guess what, I was dead on, because the real truth has come out. Even his own agent stated yesterday that they are having conversations with all his sponsors in order to find satisfactory solutions. In other words, now that we know Tiger bangs porn stars, his sponsors need to be convinced not to sue him for damages. Please stop ranting and actually read about what is going on. Christine Brennan's piece today is interesting in that she specifically asked both AT+T and Accenture about Tiger and moral's clauses, and they both refused comment. Or, try Rick Reilly's from yesterday, in which he advised Tiger to do just what he is doing -- take an indefinite leave. When will you realize that this had nothing to do with protecting Tiger's or Elin's privacy, and everything to do with protecting the brand Tiger Woods and avoiding embarrassing legal problems with the sponsors?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

seijichuudo9sha: Thats a little creepy. Tiger excelled from childhood.

But he is a child no longer. His needs are different. To suggest otherwise is to declare that children are the same as adults. Besides, he did not win anything as a professional golfer until he was 22. He was not married and I have no idea what his sex life was like. His titles and acheivements before turning pro were against people around his own age, and surpassed nothing another pro could not have acheived. He beat no pro on his own turf.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Keep digging that hole, numbskull.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

herefornow: You make me laugh.

And you make me cry. It is sad watching you flail around instead of just accepting the fact that you are drowning.

I stated early on that Tiger's initial plea for privacy was nothing more than an attempt by him and his handlers to try to minimize the damage to his image.

I only disagree with your "nothing more" idea. I should think it is that, but a great deal more too. For example, you have no sound reason to believe that Tiger is not trying to protect his wife and kids too...except for your own cold heart.

avoiding embarrassing legal problems with the sponsors?

I take it you did not read my post under the other article exposing you for fool about that. Morality clauses do not open contractees to legal trouble except in your moral straight-jacket wet dreams. Educate yourself as the info is available on the net. Just about all a moral clause does is allow a sponsor to drop a contractee if said contractee violates the clause. Nobody can arrest or successfully sue Tiger for legal behavior in his private life, as much as your lips my wet dreaming of it.

Please just drown quietly.

isthistheend: Tiger's performance came from his golfing ability, period. Not his many extra-marrital outings in my opinion.

And not the food he ate, or a stable family life, active social life, or growing up in a rich country, etc. And it was not being free from bullying or child abuse either. Yes, it was just his golfing ability, and I am sure things like regular beatings and constant screaming in his house or growing up a poor Puerto Rican street child would have had no effect on his game either.

All I have done is presented one of the requirements to become a self-actualizer and complete human that can achieve his full potential from one of the greatest psychologists of the 20th century. But by all means, please feel free to stick to your theories handed down by medieval Catholicism. They really want you to be all you can be, and would not dream of promoting ideas that turn you into an obedient sheep.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"And not the food he ate, or a stable family life, active social life, or growing up in a rich country, etc. And it was not being free from bullying or child abuse either."

Numbskull- Tiger's father was career military.US Military. You are coming dangerously close to promoting Palinesque family values. Please stop.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

seijichuudo9sha: Tiger's father was career military.US Military.

So? Not all families with military fathers are the same.

You are coming dangerously close to promoting Palinesque family values. Please stop.

There is a difference between being stupidly ignorant of your own hypocrisy and knowing full well that you are lying to protect your image, family and social life from people who either have no business knowing or no means of understanding.

I'm certainly glad I don't have to meet the likes of numbskull on a daily basis. such people love to rant and pick apart another's success, methinks out of great jealousy for not having a great talent to speak of. Well so be it. As Michael Bramberger's article just came out, it comes as a soothing balance to the likes of what's written on these pages. That's why we should never use just one news agency as our source for information. Rip Tiger to shreds if that's what you enjoy doing. I'll stick with the TW I believe is the real TW, disregarding the wacko doctrines of the appropriately self-labelled "numbskull"!

Tiger Woods is just expressing his virility!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The more that comes out the odder this story gets. It's clear now that Tiger was a serial adulterer and a p-hound of the highest order. I can't believe many people in the pro golf community and the media that covers it didn't know this or have at least an inkling that it was true. What was the flash point that brought all this out? Why didn't his habits come out earlier? I am puzzled...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I was lookin' forward to a new Law and Order almost an hour ago in its designated time-slot.

Nope. NBC pre-empted it with all these chicks goin' on about Woods.

America, JapanToday and I just can't get away from this circus.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Work hard and play even harder!

I'm pretty sure his game off the green came after he became famous. I don't even think he really tried to be player but it just worked out that way. Look, at the woman coming forward. They are all groupies and are now trying to cash in. One of the woman's own mother has said she is quite aggressive when meeting celebrities. She dated both A-Rod and Jeter. Sound like Hoochies!!!

Both Tiger and these women are at fault. They knew his situation and pursued anyway. If he wants to change then he has the right to try. If he stays away for a long time then it will be a detriment to the sport. Hopefully he will come back and be just as good as ever.

I know there are others who hope indefinite means for good. One reason is others want to win more tournaments like the best second place winner of all time.(Mickelson) Has he ever been ranked #1 in the world? Especially because Tiger is getting close to breaking records which is the last refuge to those who want to keep this sport segregated and elitist.

Giving him his space for awhile. I think in time his own competitiveness and pressure from those who need him professionally will convince him to return.

I hope works things out with the family because they should be his priority.

isthistheend: I'm certainly glad I don't have to meet the likes of numbskull on a daily basis. such people love to rant and pick apart another's success, methinks out of great jealousy for not having a great talent to speak of.

I never gave a fig about Tiger until this hit the news. I am not picking apart his success and I am not jealous. He gets my thumbs up for everything but 1)inability to drive a car under pressure and 2) having a mistress who could not keep her fat mouth shut. But nobody is perfect!

How you got the idea I was ripping into Tiger is bizarre. In fact, I was ripping into the nibby nosed public!

Junnama: The more that comes out the odder this story gets. It's clear now that Tiger was a serial adulterer and a p-hound of the highest order.

So you believe any harlot that opens her mouth? And note that I consider all women virtuous who know how to keep silent. One only gets to be a harlot in my book for opening her mouth for fame and cash. Any mistress Woods may have had who is not coming forward is a respectable lady to all but the lowly plebes of society who cannot understand such concepts.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So you believe any harlot that opens her mouth?

The evidence is pretty owerwhelming...

As an aside, it almost sounds like you're saying people of virtue are the only ones who can be trusted to tell the truth. Is that the case?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oh, the postulations of puritanical prudes. I must have missed the part where he was screwing women on the golf course during tournaments. People like to braid golf and outside sexual activity or any other number of activities to get their agenda forced on others. It is about control as usual; the puritans want to apply their prudish standards upon every segment of society. If Tiger Woods sex life has anything to do with golf let me know. Otherwise it would appear to just be part of the redneck agenda.

Serial adulterer. what a joke. Take up a damn collection and buy a couple of million scarlet letter capital 'A' 's. If you refuse to mind your own business then do it right.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Isn't it ironic that we are entering the "YEAR OF THE TIGER"? I think I'm going to change my Beagle's name to Tiger due to his continous humping of anyone's leg.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Junnama: As an aside, it almost sounds like you're saying people of virtue are the only ones who can be trusted to tell the truth. Is that the case?

No. I am saying that a mistress of virtue keeps her mouth closed, even lies to cover up what is no one's business. As soon as she opens it with intent on revenge for no wrong suffered, money, or fame, she is a common harlot.

And I believe many of those women are complete liars. Unlike with Nicole Simpson's baby, we have no proof they are lying though.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I hope he finds redemption and in time returns to what he does best and that's playing golf at the end of the day. Good luck to him and his family.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It is about control as usual

Actually, it's about honesty. If he would have done as well being honest about who he was I wouldn't care at all. Why create a false image? Derek Jeter for instance is a serious P-hound and nobody cares because he's single and honest about it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I believe many of those women are complete liars.

We're going to see that assertion tested. I myself am willing to bet most of them are telling the truth.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Isn't it ironic that we are entering the "YEAR OF THE TIGER"? I think I'm going to change my Beagle's name to Tiger due to his continous humping of anyone's leg."

@dasyhard: Yours is the funniest and most insightful comment I've read regarding this whole embarassing mess!

"I can't believe many people in the pro golf community and the media that covers it didn't know this or have at least an inkling that it was true. What was the flash point that brought all this out? Why didn't his habits come out earlier? I am puzzled..."

@Junnama: I think that TW's off the course behavior was pretty well known within the pro golf community - everyone just turned their collective heads the other way because, well, he's The Tiger Woods.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

numbskull:"The question is, is it something lies by the wayside on the road to greatness, or is it part of asphalt?"

Bang on, my fine friend!! Your metafore is amazing, and astounding. My feeling is you could be the next Heather Mallick, or even Margaret Atwood.

It really is just too funny watching the rightists here bring the hate they have for President Obama down on Tiger Woods.

Well, anyways, what Tiger does is his OWN business. But, I HAVE heard rumors he might lean right politically, in which case the full weight of the stupid corporate media SHOULD come down on him, even though they also lean right.

Tis sad (but funny) to watch this whole ordeal's unfoldment. It says soooo much about the Puritanism that is STILL found in America. As I have said many, many times, sometimes it is people like us,who are from OUTSIDE said Puritan America, who understand it best.

Well, looking on the positive side, Tiger has become a lightning rod that takes the heat off Obama, who is just the greatest, ever.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Interesting. Condoning sexual infidelity as an excuse for a man's performance in sport seems unacceptable to me. Anyway, that is what it says inside my skull.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Infidelity is not against the law and no woman should imagine that she could ever own someone like Woods. He is basically superman. Not of this world at all.

She was lucky enough to have 2 children to the guy and make off with millions but that was not enough for her. She had to try and take him down with a golf club too.

What did she expect?

That Woods could fend of sexually aggressive models his whole life? He should be given credit for all the models he didn't go to bed with. My bet is that number is colossal.

Then if you divide one into the other, Woods comes out looking cleaner than a Bedouin with 20 wives.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What's all this about 'greatness'? The man has a talent for putting a little ball in a little hole. As it happens it appears lots of people are willing to pay good money to watch him do it, so he's filthy rich and famous. But 'great'?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What's all this about 'greatness'?

Great at his job. On the verge of being greater than all the others before him at the same job. They are not talking about all facets of his life. Just one part in particular. The same reason these women were willing to have affairs with him.

Yeah, I would say greatness!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"putting little ball in a little hole". Sounds like a piece of cake, huh cleo? Ever try? Obviously not. TW raised the standard of golf culture which dates back at least 3-400 years. That's why he was revered at the British Open. He mastered ALL aspects of the game, won an astounding amount of the time, and finished in the top 10 almost without fail. No one in his generation comes close. Great? Yes without a doubt! "As it happens..." It's called recognition for being a success in your field. The great ones are rewarded.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A conspiracy theorist might wonder why the news media keep flooding us with these totally irrelevant stories about Tigers escapades, just while there are there some important political machinanations are going on.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

presto345: Interesting. Condoning sexual infidelity as an excuse for a man's performance in sport seems unacceptable to me.

Well, I was not really looking for an excuse for infidelity myself. I was just citing sexual satisfaction and the self-esteem that comes with it as a part of the foundation keeping him at the peak of his game. If its more than one woman that keeps him satisfied and keeps his self-esteem high, and if that is something that keeps his game at its peak in even the tiniest way, well its just a fact you will have to accept or keep your head buried in the sand in about. I suggest the road to mediocrity is denial of such psychological aspects of the self. If you are happy with mediocrity, enjoy. Just don't belly-ache too much about those who aim higher and get there.

I think you all just might have it backwards. Great men don't sleep around because greatness allowed them; sleeping around was a motivator and partial provider of the sustainance of greatness. But of course, it that were true, it would suggest that society were trying to pigeon-hole you with lies, and that just could not be true could it?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"to cover up what is no-ones business"..well apart from the business of the cheated wife right? Numbskull(a case of nominative determinism?) if your wife..,and i sincerely hope that you have managed to fool no-one down the ailse, but judging by your defence of Mr Woods' lifestyle and the probability that this has been motivated by some deep seated sense of guilt on your own part, you attempt to mitigate his behaviour as a proxy for the need to have your own mitigated,..was actively bedding many men behind your back would you agree it was also none of your business..i doubt it. Men like you are pathetic..your entire life is a lie,all communications with your wives/girlfriend are based on lies..every response to every question is moderated by the lie.A life of lies, shucks, and still death at the end of it..

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tiger appears to have been breeding like a rabbit. Tiger/rabbit? Get it?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tiger mated with many mates. Doing it like a rabbit. An apt (good) metaphor.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Great men don't sleep around because greatness allowed them; sleeping around was a motivator and partial provider of the sustainance of greatness.

Are you serious?

What about "great" men who don't sleep around? There are plenty of them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You can find "apt" in the dictionary under "A" . . . .

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@numbskull

Great men don't sleep around because greatness allowed them; sleeping >around was a motivator and partial provider of the sustainance of >greatness.

Yes, you have a strong case if we are only talking about sports, actors or musician/singers. However people don't simply strive to become President so they can get oral sex from an intern in the White House. Hoochies who are attracted to famous/infamous, rich and successful people allow it to happen. Politicians, Technological gurus(Bill Gates) or Real Estate Tycoons don't get into the biz because it is cool to ladies. Yet, they are still there. 50/50

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Guys for the most part instinctually want to sleep with all women. (Motivation) A societies moral values decides whether it is OK to do so or not. The individual chooses to stick with or disregard the societal values. Hoochies provide more opportunities to question ones values. Our greatness isn't simply motivated by sex. It does provide more opportunities to have it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Societies, peoples lives, tend to get screwed up by those who screw around and those who stand by and cheer and do it too.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is the leave of absence to save his marriage....or to save his millions, many of which his wife is bound to be leaving with someday soon?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

biglittleman: However people don't simply strive to become President so they can...

Of course they don't! I suggested it was a means to both motivate them and keep them satisfied and stable. We all have many motivations, and sex is a basic.

Here is a question for you: just how far do you expect a sexually frustrated person to rise?

Our greatness isn't simply motivated by sex.

Correct. Somehow, Sherlock, you over-looked my use of the terms "partly" and "in part". When I say those words, I don't mean "only". Okay? Nothing is that simple and I NEVER imply that anything is.

Moderator: Back on topic please. The subject is Tiger Woods.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Think Cleo is being petty over his actions with her comments.Pretty tasteless and unnecessary. No doubt his wife flinging her cell phone at him knocking out teeth passed your high standard of excellence.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Numbskull

Here is a question for you: just how far do you expect a sexually >frustrated person to rise?

Hey Sherlock,

Ghandhi, Mother Theresa....... and so can Tiger Woods. Try again!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hey Sherlock

Here is a question for you: just how far do you expect a sexually >frustrated person to rise?

Ghandhi, Mother Theresa....... and so can Tiger Woods. Try again!"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I can understand a person wanting to work it out if they screw around ONCE (or perhaps even a couple of times with the same person). That is not to say I can understand why someone would have an affair, but hey. But, I'm sorry, the number of people he cheated on his wife with?? He should not be forgiven one iota, and if it affects his game and his life, all the better -- pay the piper, my friend.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I would say that Mr. Woods has been indefinite about a lot of things for a long time.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Great men don't sleep around because greatness allowed them; sleeping around was a motivator and partial provider of the sustainance of greatness."

This is the old ... every great man is behind a greater woman... argument. I think that is how it goes, right? I think this is true for a lot of people. Some great men were stimulated by nicotine, others by caffeine, and others by testosterone. Some greats don't need it.

I suppose I don't have a beef with Tiger. It is just sad. I think professional sports in general have gotten way way out of hand, to the point that they are not even really people anymore. Whatever people have to become or give up to be GREAT hardly seems worth it. It seems honest to show it for what it is. Tiger had a talent to play a game. A game. And his life is screwed up. He used to be a "legend." Now he is Anna Nicole Smith and Balloon Daddy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

smithinjapan: He should not be forgiven one iota,

By whom? You? Feeling important today? The only people in a position to decide to forgive Tiger Woods or not is his wife and kids first and his sponsors last. You and no other plebe including myself is in such a postition.

5SpeedRacer5: Some greats don't need it.

It would seem to be true. I can't really say if Tiger is one of those or not, but if he isn't he would be a fool to waste his talent on something as insignificant as absolute marriage fidelity.

judging by your defence [defense] of Mr Woods' lifestyle and the probability that this has been motivated by some deep seated sense of guilt on your own part, you attempt to mitigate his behaviour as a proxy for the need to have your own mitigated,..was actively bedding many men behind your back would you agree it was also none of your business..i doubt it. Men like you are pathetic..your entire life is a lie,all communications with your wives/girlfriend are based on lies.

Nonsense! Being non-judgmental or even defending another person's actions is in no way and indicator of similar traits. Making such claims is simply a personal attack to try to prove a point. "Men like you ..." - you don't have a clue what Numbskull or any other poster on JT is "like."

In all reality the essence of your argument is that because people disagree with you on moral issues they must be immoral.

I thought this was a place for intellectual discussion not a church.

So the Tiger is human after all. ...human because he was cheating on his wife, and because he got caught.

What's the big effing surprise everyone? Most men and women have cheated at one time or another in their lives on boyfriends, girlfriends, spouses, etc.... add to that, a guy in Tiger's position has 3 thousand chances a day to cheat on his wife.... not that I'm condoning it, just saying it's no surprise.

Mrs. Woods should have him tested for STDs and include the results in her decision-making. Also if she decides to keep him, she should make him get tested for STDs regularly for life, and if she ever goes to bed with him again always use condoms. He has no right to endanger her health. He could bring home anything from gonorrhea to AIDS any given day.

People are "tragic" beings according to the Ancient Greeks. They knew our human failings and weaknesses and our strengths as well. The knowledge of the "tragic nature of man" is not a depressing thing so much as a big dose of realism. One should expect people to have faults, some of them major faults. Tiger has faults. Not that he can be easily be excused for them, though. But he does apparently enjoy sex with multiple partners. I doubt that a time-out from golf will change that. It might . . . . but knowing people for what they usually are, it probably won`t. If his wife is realistic, she would leave him. IF she expects fidelity, that is.

I always had resevations about Woods. Now everything i imagined has come to fruition. Golf is a game for gentlemen, and behind his facade, we all can see Woods for the spoilt egotistical, low moralled guy he has been exposed as.

I suggest if the bad guy truely wishes to repent, then how about golfing again and giving your next 12 months, 100 million bucks to various charities. It will never happen of course.

He gives a pittance of his earnin gs to charity to look good, the way many liberals do. Woods has tarnished the good name and tradition of golf by his immoral behavior.

Woods, you are a disgrace, who only expresses guilt to look good. You don`t fool me!

numbshull -- looks like I'm not the only one here who thinks you are off base in your repeated defenses of Tiger and his right to privacy. And, since JT is apparently your only source of news on this subject, let me update you on the latest -- Gillette has pulled him from his ads, Accenture has dropped all signs of him from their website, and AT&T is evaluating the situation. And, as we know, Gatorade had already given him the boot. Has it dawned on you yet why he lashed out at the press and all the "vultures"? Oh, and in case you cannot connect all the dots, be prepared for the IRS getting into this at some point. Based on published reports, he jetted at least some of his harem around the world through his Tiger Woods Design company. If he declared any of those as business expenses, that's tax fraud. And, the public does have a right to know about that, and it was the press that possibly uncovered it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

herefornow: looks like I'm not the only one here who thinks you are off base

That's nice dear. Must be comforting to know that you are not alone in your skepticism of me despite the fact that your little "morality clause" chant fell on deaf on ears.

But you might take note that I am not alone in several points I have made.

Has it dawned on you yet why he lashed out at the press and all the "vultures"?

Look. You now force me assume that your reading level is somewhere around fifth grade. So I will make this absolutely clear to the point a child could understand. Just as you say, Tiger is angry at the press because the news has lost him sponsorships and money. Yes, you are correct, that is one of the reasons. Now here comes the part that may be difficult for you to understand, so read carefully. There still may be other reasons. Sometimes, dear boy, we have more than one reason for the things we do. I do believe that Tiger Woods got married for reasons besides money and might actually want his wife and children to be with him. This I believe maybe because I too married for more than money and financial stability. Perhaps you married for one reason and one reason only, or plan too? It could explain your mental constipation on this. And there may yet be more reasons.

In case you still don't get it, I am saying I agree with the reason you say. I am just saying there may be more, and I believe there are. If you understand all this, you may graduate to sixth grade.

DickMorris: I always had resevations about Woods. Now everything i imagined has come to fruition. Golf is a game for gentlemen, and behind his facade, we all can see Woods for the spoilt egotistical, low moralled guy he has been exposed as.

I must be frustating to you that God made him the best. Its almost like God betrayed you. Reminds me of the fictional jealousy of Salieri toward Mozart in the film "Amadeus". If you have not seen it, you should watch it. Its pathetic.

So many after the fact I always knew it bandwagoners here eh? Reminds of that former Clinton aide who later became a Fox news mouthpiece, after getting busted in some sordid prostitution racket.Think his first name was dick.Another high character guy who has contributed something to the world.

Also, herefornow, as hard as this also may be for you to understand, I am not saying that Tiger has a legal right to privacy. I wish he did, and he technically might, somehow, but it won't stand in court. Nevertheless, he does have a moral right to privacy. And as much as people might think I am selective about morality, I look at several here and feel the same thing. In fact, I think I have more proof about the lack of morality in the opposition. My opinions are just words. The lack of morality of many here are the WORDS THEMSELVES. That includes the writers of these articles.

Azrael makes an important point actually. My very close friend went through a similar experience when she found out her husband had been screwing around and brought home an infection that could have caused serious health consequences for the whole family. She had to watch her tiny kids strapped down screaming in a hospital while loads of blood was drawn out of their little bodies to test for the presence of this particular infection. Forget about his infidelity, I don`t think she will ever get over that experience. (Happy to report they are all OK now, although he came close to death at one point, from the infection AND from her and her friends!)

Morality aside, he has potentially endangered the health of his wife and kids for his own selfish needs, and that for me is pretty unforgiveable.

However, I do believe that even though he is a sports star he is also entitled to a private life, and I feel bad for the whole family that his behaviour, abhorrent though it is, is being paraded through the media like some kind of entertainment. I don`t particularly like the guy, and have always believed that when something (or someone) seems too good to be true it usually is. But I think this is a matter for him and his family, and to a lesser extent the sponsors and whether or not they want him representing their product, but it has nothing to do with the media, the public or anyone else.

I don´t understand the brouhaha. So, a celebrity has been playing around with a lot of groupies. That is news?!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't know about anyone else, but I think 2 ways about this. One the one hand, I really don't care. I'm not involved, nor is anyone I know involved. So to me, its none of my business. Having said this, I admit, I think less of Tiger after this. A man who isn't faithful to his wife, well, isn't really a man. Hes just a kid wanting to have his cake, as well as his neighbors cake. The point being, by being unfaithful, he is acting more like a selfish child then an adult. If he wants to sleep around, thats fine. He should divorce his wife, then he can sleep with whomever he wants, free and clear.

numbskull's comparison of the reaction of some to the "fall" of Tiger Woods to Salieri's jealousy in the face of Mozart's soaring genius is full of insight.

The sheer talent and accomplishments of Woods were what caused the world of men around him to erect the pedestal he has now temporarily fallen from. I say temporarily because I see this as a societal passion play where the hero will ultimately triumph to serve as a front man for Madison Avenue.

Those ads for the consulting firm Accenture -- with its compelling cry to other men: "Come on. Be a Tiger." -- take on an entirely new meaning. Note that Accenture was spun off sometime in the 90s from Arthur Andersen, and sued to be allowed to keep connected with the vaunted Andersen name -- a lawsuit that was dropped faster than ValuJet becoming AirTran, after the Enron debacle hit. As is the way of the cosmic comedy, they were drawn to the use of Tiger to foster its new image.

And, since my previous post, the NYT has reported that Accenture has just dropped Tiger Woods as a sponsor for the company.

Is there no life without Tiger?

Everythign that Tiger is getting, Tiger deserves.

I've heard abut "stupid" before, but I've NEVER seen it. Tiger's got a hot wife like Elin Nordegren, and what does he do? Cheat with women who aren't even half as beautiful as his own wife. Kinda' reminds me of Shaniah Twain's cheating husband and his not-even-1/4th-as-beautiful-as-his-own-wife mistress. Why do these doofus celebrity guys marry smokin' hawt wives, only to cheat on `em later?

Like I said, I've heard of stupid, but I ain't never seen it `til I saw the mess Tiger's made for himself....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A 'hot' wife?

Maybe hot in your eyes, but possibly cold as the Scandinavian snow to Tiger Woods. They say that any marriage is the sum of two people, so she must share at least 50% of the blame, IMHO, if apportioning blame is the game we're playing here. She chose him, sure, but who is to say what her motivation was?

Is she at least going to give him a chance to patch all this up?

Kirakira25> Thanks for your comment! I'm glad your friend and her children are back to health now. Indeed this is an aspect of infidelity many people refuse to consider: the breach of trust is more than just about moral integrity but also about the health of the unfortunate partner that has gotten betrayed.

On a side note, I think if an adulterer gives their spouse something lethal like AIDS for example, the adulterer ought to be prosecuted. I hope Mrs. Woods won't be suffering health issues because of her husband's irresponsible behavior.

I feel cheating on your taxes is worse than cheating on your wife, but it is obvious with the thoughts of people spouting off that being in Japan and cheating either way is acceptable.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

nandkadamanda - She shares the blame? For what? Apparently, she didn't know aobut the mistresses. Should she be blamed for not going with Tiger to every tourney because of being home to take care of the children? And how do you she is cold? Why should we assume she was anything other than an adoring wife who stayed closet o home and hearth while her man went out and gained the fame? How do we know that she didn't give up her promising modeling career to marry the man of her dreams, give him children and take care of them? It would seem the last two would be the case.

Sorry, nandkadamanda, it does take two to make a marriage, but only one to break one, and despite all these lovey-dovey fans and their feelings of sadness for Tiger, and the need to pile on his wife for some nonexistent wrong, the fact of the matter is, Tiger played, and now his havign to pay. Whatever her motivation for marriyng Tiger and for him to marry her, what Tiger did was WRONG: absolutely and positively W-R-O-N-G. Casting blame on Elin Nordegrin is preposterous at best, ludicrous at worst. If she decides to leave him and take the kids with her to Sweden, she is right to do so for his filandering.

Blue_Tiger: Why should we assume she was anything other than an adoring wife who stayed closet o home and hearth while her man went out and gained the fame?

Its interesting that you make plenty of bad assumptions about Tiger, but are demanding only good assumptions about his wife. Interesting, and telling. The woman just went after him with a golf club and shattered his car window! If you feel free to assume that Tiger is 100 percent to blame for his actions, then why cannot we assume that his wife is often so self-absorbed that going after him with a golf club is not all that out of character? What else is possible with her you expect?

Actually, what I would rather do is just stop assuming anything. The list of possibilities is as long as my arm. The only thing safe to assume is that making assumptions is unfair, reckless and immoral, and they all should stop, including and especially the ones that get these discussions started, assumptions like Tiger is the only one in the wrong because you don't know that.

numbskull -- I concede, you have worn me out with your seemingly endless stream of rants and convoluted and emotional rhetoric. First you claimed Tiger had a "moral right" to privacy, even though that right was being used to conceal his immoral acts from his sponsors, who paid him millions to be moral. Then, when the details came out, it was too bad for the sponsors, because they should have known that Tiger, like most men, will cheat if given the opportunity, and the morlas clause in the contract was basically not important. And, now finally, you want people to "stop assuming anything", even though you spent most of yesterday laying blame on Elin Woods, due to her supposed frigidness and violent temper. It's impossible to have a rational discussion with you, because you are like Bush and Cheney -- you just muddy the waters with pure speculation and hope by that repeating it enough, it becomes true. Bottom line, virtually every prediction I made about Tiger's situation and it's impact on his marketability has come true. Other than Knight, the head of Nike, who I concede makes a similar argument as you do, no one else has offered their unconditional support. But, remember, Nike has built an estimated $650 million golf business around Tiger, so they have to ride this out with him. I leave you to your debate.

I was just thinking, well tiger seems to be a real "tiger" in bed maybe he should go on to be a great porn star?? By the way, they found a Tiger look a like and this new porn movie is already being shot in the USA, I can not wait to see a Japanese version of this sexual juicy scandal!

elbudamexicano: I was just thinking, well tiger seems to be a real "tiger" in bed

That would be a whole lot funnier if you had half a reason to think he was great in bed. Have not heard a word about his perfomance. So not funny. Why not just give up?

Blue_Tiger: Everythign that Tiger is getting, Tiger deserves.

So much for Christian forgiveness and all that. Where did you say your morality set came from again? Is there a religious groups known as the Vindictives?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

herefornow: I concede

Then why didn't you?

you just muddy the waters with pure speculation

It was not speculation. I did not muddy the waters! You assumed they were clear! They are not. We don't know enough to judge. If I had simply said "We don't know enough to judge.", we both know you would not have understood why.

Bottom line, virtually every prediction I made about Tiger's situation and it's impact on his marketability has come true.

Outside of legal trouble you made no predictions I remember. I see no legal trouble. I see only one rotten company abandoning Tiger. I see a few others have pulled in the sails to ride out the storm.

Of course, if too many companies dump Tiger we on the left might just have to play the race card, even tho Tiger is rumored to be a bit of a winger, pro-military and such.

And good riddance to Tiger, I say. Let's hope we never hear from him again. If you think with your dick you don't deserve any better.
