Pay cuts are one way to achieve sexual equality I suppose. But I doubt anyone is much happier today at the BBC.

Why not give the women a pay increase instead of cutting pay to the men?

If the men are drawing the crowds why do they need to cut their pay.

Anybody know the viewing figures?

Facts are irrelevant while in the midst of a hysteria.

I don’t see anything hysterical here. I’m not hysterical. I want to know the facts. That’s why I asked the question.

I think there is a good argument to be had on the subject of pay being related to viewership.

Do you know the viewing figures?

why did they wait until after Gracie resigned? Does she get her job back? Is she suing for damages?

She has taken a job in London in the news room, where I assume, the women get paid the same as men as they are all doing the same job. It's in the article, if you had bothered to read it.

@Jimizo If you think pay should be based on the number of viewers/listeners a programme gets, then Claudia Winkleman should be paid more than Graham Norton and many others as one of the shows she presents, Strictly Come Dancing, gets a massive audience as it's one of the most popular things on UK telly. It's also more popular than any of the radio programmes mentioned.

People doing the same amount of the same work at the same quality should be paid the same. "Negotiation" is nothing more than excuse to pay people less based on the manager's personal biases.

They're alright, I suppose.

I prefer Kirsty Wark, Orla Guerin, Naga Munchetty, Laura Kuenssberg, Cerys Matthews and the iconic Moira Stewart.

'tis amusing how the right sees the beeb as verging on communist and the left (in the UK) see it as biased in favour of the centre right and a government tool.

Must be doing something right in the impartiality stakes if it annoys both extremes.

All the radio presenters mentioned, except Vine, co present programmes with women who earn less. So they are doing the same job but the women are paid less, it's scandalous. Same with many telly programmes too. Of the four BBC News foreign editors, the two men were paid a lot more than the two women, prompting Gracie's resignation.

Humphrys is quite an objectionable person who is past his prime and makes Today unlistenable when he's on it. He's often dismissive of issues and guests, which is unprofessional, yet mocked the pay gap and his colleagues who complained. He should stick to presenting Mastermind.

For what they do they are all, both male and female grossly over paid out of the public purse. There are professions far more deserving than these so called personalities/presenters. Lets be honest we all could read off of a teleprompter! I would like to see how they would cope with an 80 year old with dementia who has shat their selves for the 3rd time that shift or a family whose child has died of cancer.

With the rise of the internet, take a 0 off the end of all the salaries to represent true market value. These dinosaur journalists will not be around in a few years.

Why not give the women a pay increase instead of cutting pay to the men?

Because the beeb is drunk on political correctness and clearly the decision makers are morons and lefty bed-wetters.

Case in point Top Gear....

Why not give the women a pay increase instead of cutting pay to the men?

It's the BBC - don't their salaries all come from "fees" (taxes)?

why should the men be punished for being better negotiators?

These false corrections will solve nothing.

Guess you would have to look at viewing figures.

Now society is all about equality of outcomes, rather than outcomes based on merit.

Communism through the back door.

Yet science tells us that men traditionally go the extra mile in their careers, working longer hours and taking less days off than their female counterparts.

Females, as a matter of course, work fewer hours and take more time off to raise children.

Maybe not all, but I'd wager many of these men at BBC made the sacrifices in their lives to earn the higher wages. Tells you where the UK is at when they are bullied into giving up the just rewards.
