Trump spent the first couple of years doing little and lurching from crisis to crisis, yet remained popular with his fan base. However, it looks like it his wall where his presidency will begin to unravel. He will have to back down in the end and will look like a loser.

The Democrats smell blood and will push there advantage home.

which the Dems can easily fix as soon as they come back to Washington!" he said.

Trump's once again showing his spoiled class upbringing: create a problem (he did say he was 'proud to shutdown the government') and expect someone else to fix it for you.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Trump’s problem is that he acted impulsively without first looking at how shutdowns have gone for the past 30 years. They’ve always resulted in the party that initiated the shutdown having to back off, and not even once did they get what they were attempting.

We’re right back in that position. It’s trumps shutdown. He initiated it, claimed it, and is now being blamed for it. And as we can see, the cracks are showing.

Poor American workers are having to rely on charity and handouts to even eat at work now:

Canadian air traffic controllers send pizza to U.S. counterparts

They're that they live next door to Canada.

remember, President Trump stayed in the WH all through the holidays while the Dems vacationed in Hawaii and elsewhere..

As he should have in punishment for throwing a hissy fit that is affecting millions.

Top Republican lawmakers on Sunday warned against Donald Trump declaring a national emergency to secure funds for a border wall, signaling doubts within the president's party as a government shutdown was set to enter a fourth workweek.

This drives the binary thinking Trumpers crazy - "Repubs can't oppose the President, that's not how it works..."  Just like Kavanugh will never vote with the liberal Justices...

The Washington Post/ABC News survey found that far more Americans blame Trump and the Republicans for the shutdown than blame the Democrats -- by 53 percent to 29 percent.

As one Pro-Trump poster here says; Oh my....

"I want to give them the chance to see if they can act responsibly," he told Fox in an interview late Saturday.

That gave me one of my the biggest belly laughs since the ballad of Stormy and Donnie...

And while the Trump Shutdown continues, we find out Manafort provided campaign info to Russians, the FBI believed Trump was a Russian agent, and Trump hides his notes from meetings with Putin...

Can't let anyone know about those oligarch business deals and investments or Putin's free penthouse in Trump Tower Moscow...

The Murmansk Candidate...

And many are on a lobbyist paid vacation in Puerto Rico. Why does every article keep trying to assure us Dems are working when they are not?

Many lawmakers spent the weekend in their home states -- often hearing constituents' complaints about the shutdown -- but will return to Washington on Monday.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Russia Russia Russia Putin Moscow Stormy. Can’t even keep to the topic of the shutdown because your side is losing.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

And many are on a lobbyist paid vacation in Puerto Rico.

Why should they have to alter their plans simply because Trump had a hissy fit? They didn’t close the government, they aren’t the ones behind unreasonable in not reopening it, and he’s the only one who can get it started back up.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Blacklabel: Russia Russia Russia Putin Moscow Stormy. Can’t even keep to the topic of the shutdown because your side is losing.

Jeeze, black is here talking about Russia again. You just can't stop that guy from bringing it in to every thread.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

your side is losing.

As a negotiator, I always know my stance is strong when the other party tries to convince me I’m losing. Losing positions are self-evident and don’t need either party to point it out. Doing so just shows that the party is trying to bluff their way into a stronger position.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

he is not the only only who can reopen the government. Chuck and Nancy can too.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

@black And many are on a lobbyist paid vacation in Puerto Rico. Why does every article keep trying to assure us Dems are working when they are not?Fox n Friends really got into that little peanut....

Trumps great shutdown is breaking all records its huuugggeeee...such a beautiful thing...

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Caption to top photo above;

Trump to Pence:  "I've told you, you're not going to be President, I don't care what the FBI, CIA, DIA, and Melania tell you...so get that stupid smirk off your face..."

Scalise:  "How did I get tricked into a picture with these two idiots..."

6 ( +6 / -0 )

he is not the only only who can reopen the government. Chuck and Nancy can too.

Nope. It’s his shutdown:

If you say who gets fired, it always has to be the top. Problems start from the top, and they have to get solved from the top, and the president’s the leader, and he’s got to get everybody in a room, and he’s got to lead. And he doesn’t do that, he doesn’t like doing that, that’s not his strength."

"when they talk about the government shutdown, they’re going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time. They’re not going to be talking about who was the head of the House, the head the Senate, who’s running things in Washington. So I really think the pressure is on the president."

“FACT – the reason why Americans have to worry about a government shutdown is because Obama refuses to pass a budget.”

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Yet according to liberals the branches of government are “equal”. If so, how are chuck and Nancy powerless to reopen the government if they want to? (They don’t)

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

I really don't see any way out for Trump unless it's the national emergency since he's put everyone in an impossible position. He can't force Democrats to give in to his moving target demands and he doesn't have the votes to override. So we're stuck, and Trump keeps his hostages since releasing them weakens his bargaining position as one Trump supporter here pointed out.

The GOP has a dynamic called, "vote no, hope yes" and vice versa. That means a GOP Congressman is taking some hardline, fundamentalist position against something that we need like raising the debt ceiling. So they vote NO so they can tell their base they voted NO, but it passes anyway and they breathe a sigh of relief that they lost.

That could play out with the emergency. The GOP will support it, hoping it fails. If Trump wins in court then the GOP will have to deal with the fact they handed new powers to the President, which will be a Democrat in the future. This would be a "vote YES, hope NO."

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Corrected headline: Two (2) Republicans don't want it to come down to a national emergency declaration.

They won't oppose President if it comes down to that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yet according to liberals the branches of government are “equal”.

Jesus, more outraged based on not understanding how the system works.

1) The law is not based on opinion, so it would't matter 'according to' anyone, other than judges who rule on the matter.

2) The law makes the combination of the two houses, the senate and the congress, the equal of the president. So yes, the branches are equal, however the power of the one branch is split into two, with the senate having half, and the congress having half.

Lucky you, you just got a free education as to how your own government works from someone who isn't from your country.

If so, how are chuck and Nancy powerless to reopen the government if they want to? (They don’t)

They have done what they can - they passed a bill through their house. Congress is refusing to even vote upon it. The Senate cannot force Congress to vote upon a bill. Therefore Chuck and Nancy cannot end the shutdown. Nor should they, as they are not the ones being unreasonable. And finally, neither would they, as the public agrees that Trump is the one being unreasonable on this. America does not negotiate with hostage-takers, and Trump is using the government workers as pawns in his ego-driven attempt at getting a shiny new toy he promised Mexico would pay for.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

The GOP has a dynamic called, "vote no, hope yes" and vice versa. That means a GOP Congressman is taking some hardline, fundamentalist position against something that we need like raising the debt ceiling. So they vote NO so they can tell their base they voted NO, but it passes anyway and they breathe a sigh of relief that they lost.

I recently listened to an interesting podcast. The guy talking was explaining how in Republican strongholds, Republicans don't have to worry about competition from the Democrats, because Republicans are going to win no matter what. Rather, the worry for them is being ousted by someone more extreme to the right. So with each election they get further and further right, in order to hold on to power.

The question is, will this sort itself by eventually getting so far right that even the Republicans in the area will break party ranks and go left? I don't think the situation is anywhere close to that yet, but I do wonder if it's a natural consequence.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@black You do know on his campaign that he said he wouldn't have time for golf he constantly complained about Obama playing golf...

https://trumpgolfcount.com/

This is Trumps shutdown I really cant understand Trump supporters even trying to blame dems for it that is just ludicrous but it is the only straw they have....

So Dems partying on the beach, on a lobbyist funded trip, during a government shutdown while Canadians have to feed pizza to our workers, is a”little peanut” and nobody cares.

Never said it was a little peanut I was referring to something else but if that the way you want to interpret it thats fine....

3 ( +3 / -0 )

blacklabel: Yes it’s not a good look to be going on expensive vacations funded by lobbyists who are trying to buy favors and their votes. Or do you support that now while federal workers aren’t being paid? Of course you are because it’s not about the workers they are just convenient pawns.

You sound pretty concerned about the workers today.

Last week:

It’s a voluntary job where people can quit anytime and come and go as they please.  The door is wide open, they can leave any time they like if they don’t like being non essential government employees who aren’t paid during shutdowns.  They can quit their job and get a new one at anytime.

I guess you decided to change up your strategy. Who knows which one you really believe.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

I’m still not concerned about the workers, it’s the bad part of the 90% good of being a federal employee. they are just being used as pawns by liberals to try to get Trump to reopen government without them having to do anything.

your side supposedly is concerned about the workers. this is I was talking about. Dems partying on Puerto Rico and having their votes bought shows the reality that they don’t care either, same as me.

So you can’t claim “what about the poor workers”

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Sure they can, pass a bill with actual wall funding in it. Simple. The people who are not willing to compromise at all, even to get people back to work, are in fact unreasonable.

Therefore Chuck and Nancy cannot end the shutdown. Nor should they, as they are not the ones being unreasonable.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Sure they can, pass a bill with actual wall funding in it. Simple. The people who are not willing to compromise at all, even to get people back to work, are in fact unreasonable.

Why would they do such a silly thing, when Trump took credit for the shutdown, and is the one whom the people are blaming for it? Particularly when they are actually serving the interests of the people, who have been clear they don't want a wall.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Except the coward Lindsay Graham.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

To actually give the money needed to secure our border and stop our citizens from being murdered by illegals and killed by trafficked drugs. To save victims of human trafficking and to deter caravan people who won’t be allowed to enter anyway, saving them from rape, robbery and being killed themselves. To stop families from sending their unaccompanied children with coyotes.

But the “resistance” and trying to get political points is more important to liberals than any of that .

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

To actually give the money needed to secure our border and stop our citizens from being murdered by illegals and killed by trafficked drugs.

Why do it in such an ineffective manner?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@blacklab But it does because half of the USA feels the same way.

When posts deal with facts, they can be taken more seriously.

screaming about Russia all the time

Thanks for the reminder; it's a serious issue of concern to Americans who don't want to have foreign 'meddling' in American politics.

Trump himself didn’t do anything illegal

Do you have evidence of this?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Russia Russia Russia Putin Moscow Stormy. Can’t even keep to the topic of the shutdown because your side is losing.

Exactly. That’s the only narrative they know. Now if the Dems would show that they care about border security instead of pretending or using empty based words like, “we care” or “we are doing something.” Optics-wise doesn’t mean anything. If I were Chucky or Pelosi and wanted to shut the President up and show to the country I’m a better leader, and my party is more responsible, I would fund the wall, beef up border security and end sanctuary cities, I would own the President front and center, but I digress.....

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

And again...

blacklabel last week:

Do you really believe if Trump opens the government Dems will suddenly negotiate in good faith?

blacklabel today:

[the workers] are just being used as pawns by liberals to try to get Trump to reopen government without them having to do anything.

Last week you were of the opinion that the Dems wouldn't negotiate if Trump opened up the government, meaning they were being used by Trump for leverage. And this week the workers are pawns of Democrats.

And by the way, who owns the shutdown? Trump said he owned it a couple of weeks ago. But then suddenly that changed and the Democrats own it. Like.....that whole thing with Trump bragging about owning it never existed or something.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

do you have any evidence he did? It’s your narrative and talking point that you scream about every day not mine. Burden of proof is on you as the accuser.

Seems all the accusations would be backed up by these facts you love?

I posted a fact, Dems are partying in Puerto Rico with lobbyists while people have no paycheck. The liberal media covering up for them by reporting they are in their districts with their constituents who are complaining about the shutdown. No, the are at beach in Puerto Rico. Fact.

No one will comment, just deflect it as manufactured outrage. Except I’m not outraged and it’s not manufactured

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

A fact without a problem.

Why shouldn't they do this simply because Trump decided to throw a hissy fit because he didn't like Anne Coulter calling him out?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@bas4  If I were Chucky or Pelosi

But you're not. Fortunately.

Anyone with the slightest understanding and appreciation for US democracy fully recognizes the notion of opposition party and its roles, of the balance and separation of powers.

Say NO to Herr Diktator and his 'manufacturing'.

Say NO to a multi-billion dollar boondoggle that MAY make it more difficult for people to cross the southern border illegally, but will do almost NOTHING to slow illegal drug trafficking. Find more cost-effective solutions.

Get some Mueller. Ensure the US president has NOT colluded with any foreign power.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Dems will not compromise it he reopens the government, they said so. So until they compromise- government is closed. If they cared about the workers they wouldn’t go on vacation every week and would stay and work something out that both sides can agree on.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Trump said he owned it a couple of weeks ago. But then suddenly that changed and the Democrats own it.

Even Trump supporters know most of what Trump comes out with is to be ignored or regarded as null and void depending on the time of day.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Dems will not compromise it he reopens the government, they said so.

Why would they? They've already done their job.

So until they compromise- government is closed.

Until Trump drops his unreasonable demands and decides to keep his shutdown going, his shutdown will continue.

If they cared about the workers they wouldn’t go on vacation every week and would stay and work something out that both sides can agree on.

Both sides already agreed upon something, and Trump pulled out the rug. Can't expect everyone to just drop the rest of life because Trump doesn't know how the world works.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I wonder how many of our 'Pubby friends have a friend or relative who is hurting as a result of the shutdown, yet continues here to support their boy's proudly choosing to shut down the government for the wall Mexico was supposed to pay for.

There does seem to be less Trumpet's pushing the wall issue than usual.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

So it’s not the “job” of the Democrats to get federal employees back to work. But it is their job (and no problem) to hang on the beach with lobbyists. Glad we cleared this up.

Once trump gets the money he needs for the safety and security of 320 million, this small subset of people can get back to work.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

So it’s not the “job” of the Democrats to get federal employees back to work.

Sure it is. And they did that job by passing a bill that had already been agreed upon by both houses and the president, until the president suddenly had a hissy fit and threw in an unreasonable demand. They even went and met with him to discuss further - until he stomped his feet and walked out because they didn't give into his unreasonable demand.

But it is their job (and no problem) to hang on the beach with lobbyists. Glad we cleared this up.

Job, vacation, who cares. If they had it planned, Trump having a hissy fit about the wall he said Mexico would pay for, is no reason to not continue on said plans.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Once trump gets the money he needs for the safety and security of 320 million, this small subset of people can get back to work.

I keep asking, and you keep not answering, why would they do that?

And should the US negotiate with hostage takers?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

You have to be quite the moron to think that the argument 'they should just give in to his unreasonable demands' makes any sense.

Imagine if Obama had said 'I'm not going to pass a budget unless you guys give me $1 trillion for health care'. The right would have lost their heads. Literally, spontaneous explosion the second they heard it. It would be like a birdbox-like phenomena.

And if the left was like 'just give in, it will make things easier'.

Yeah, imagine what these same Trumpets would be saying in that situation.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

They have.

Links please.

Even Trump supporters know most of what Trump comes out with is to be ignored or regarded as null and void depending on the time of day.

Actually, Trump supporters think that about the msm and the Democrats.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I guess it's going to take a few more U.S. citizens killed by illegals to get the wall funding and reopen the government.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Imagine if Obama had said 'I'm not going to pass a budget unless you guys give me $1 trillion for health care'.

Actually, Obama never had a budget; couldn't care less. Just doubled the national debt to $20 trillion in eight years, the socialist /liberal way. Eight consecutive years of continuing resolutions. This guy single-handedly ruined the American economy.

Trump is asking for $5 billion (far from your hypothetical $1 trillion for healthcare), 0.0013 of the federal budget. The libs need to start making sense out of this instead of harboring illegal aliens, their future "voters".

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

It's really strange. It's like Trump fans want to create a reality where Trump didn't brag about owning the shutdown.

They are trying to create a new reality out of sheer will.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

They can’t. They just want you to believe they do and then mystically hope you belive it....soon....one day....

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

No, the reality is, what will the Dems do, will they do something to end this shutdown, will they care about border security or will Nancy and Chuck continue to lie and claim they are for something they are not

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

And CNN jumping on the TSA narrative exactly as I predicted. They tried this last week but it doesn’t work until the paychecks didn’t paid.

https://edition-m.cnn.com/2019/01/13/us/tsa-gun-flight/index.html

The perception that this might have occurred as a result of the partial government shutdown would be false," TSA said. "The national unscheduled absence rate of TSA staff on Thursday, January 3, 2019, was 4.8% compared to 6.3% last year, Thursday, January 4, 2018. So in fact, the national call out rate was higher a year ago than this year on that date."

facts. Ouch.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

We have moved past who owns the shutdown or who cab be blamed. We are looking for solutions that don’t involve our side not getting anything at all. Thus, compromise.

For our safety and security and so people can do back to work as you say you want them to.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Readers, discussion on this thread will be suspended for a few hours.

No, the reality is, what will the Repubs do, will they do something to end this shutdown, will they care about border security or will Mitch and Dumpster Fire Donny continue to lie and claim they are for something they are not

Exactly. That’s the only narrative they know. No, the reality is, what will the Dems do

I wish someone would explain what Trump meant by claiming responsibility for the shutdown and adding that he wouldn’t blame the democrats for it.

This seems a reasonable request.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Federal employees and families should go the Nancy Pelosi house and Chuck Schumer house and demand for end Government shut down.

Either side was willing to give-up its standing. Their victims are federal employees and their families.

Nancy Pelosi is calling the Wall is an immorality was baseless and she and Chuck Schumer must accept the border wall and give the President Trump money in to build the border wall.
