Just another reason how the war in Iraq and Afghanistan have overextended every inch of the U.S. armed forces. It tells you something when the head honcho thinks the spec ops guys are being overextended. I'm sure many of them are doing the direct action stuff constantly, kicking down doors, raids, things like that, that are more suited for light/heavy conventional infantry units. Not saying that these spec ops guys can't do it, they are the best of the best in the world and can kick butt for sure in any corner of the globe, but especially for the Green Berets they can do it all but it's hard to be trainers when you are overextended with nonstop mission after mission.

What ever happened to "SHOCK AND AWE" these Americans are a joke!

they are the best of the best in the world and can kick butt for sure in any corner of the globe.

In their own, narrow little minds, I'm sure that's true. The other elite forces of the world know that they rely too much on technology and their overzealous gung-ho attitude is just sad and pathetic. These types of highly trained operatives should be cool, calm and VERY professional, not a bunch of 'ass-kicking' louts who mistake themselves for heroes all the time. Bring on the SAS, SBS and the French Foreign Legion if you want to see true butt kickers who don't feel the need to constantly crow about themselves.

PS Get out of Iraq!

motown - Yeah, well, these "pathetic louts with narrow little minds who mistake themselves for heroes" will just continue to be real heroes.

SAS slinked out of Iraq in shame, if they didn't quit their own squadrons to take jobs as mercenaries or security experts. Not their fault really, the UK has chosen spend its tax monies not on maintaining an army that will protect them and their interests but on dole payments to an army within which wants to destroy them.

The French Foreign Legion fights bravely, in cartoons and in movies.

I have met a few US special forces members in my time, some retired and some active. I found each one of them to be classy, intelligent, polite and suprisingly humble.

I feel their pain - I also have an overused unit.

But that's just a sacrifice I make to serve my country overseas.

Unfortunately the civilian leadership in most countries have unrealistic ideas of what the military can accomplish. It is THEY who should be held legally responsible for their own orders. Not the (99.9%) of honourable soldiers, sailors and airwo/men who are needlessly sent to do political dirtywork under the guise of a just cause. Iraq & Afghanistan are poignant cases in point.

I don't get it. The article is about the overuse of our military and I post a legitimate comment about what it'll need to fill in the gap.

The story is about the overuse of our military, how do you solve that, more enlistees to fill the billets needed.

I suggested re-activating the draft to fill the gap of troops needed.

But to fill the gap right now we're using moral waivers.

This war can't go on forever.

SAS slinked out of Iraq in shame, As should all the foreign troops there.

if they didn't quit their own squadrons to take jobs as mercenaries or security experts. Not their fault really, the UK has chosen spend its tax monies not on maintaining an army that will protect them and their interests

So, that doesn't say anything about their abilities, just that they have been betrayed by their leaders, just as Dubya and his cronies betrayed the US public on 9/11 and then threw their children into an illegal war in Iraq.

but on dole payments to an army within which wants to destroy them. Don't understand that bit, sorry.

The French Foreign Legion fights bravely, in cartoons and in movies.

And in real life.
