Who knows what all goes on inside North Korea. My sense is it's typical of other authoritarian regimes, that life is probably tough for the majority of its citizens, especially those not closely connected to the authoritarian regime.

But the US needs to stop criticizing other state's human rights records and work harder to improve ours.

A lot of Slamming going on this week!

I read three sources of information regarding North Korea daily. The sanctions are hurting even the coddled class in Pyongang, and the country keeps on trying to find ways to take more from the citizens with mandatory insurance schemes and other inventions.

Authoritarianism gets severe when hit with feelings of insecurity, and the Kim regime is worried.

No more "From America with Love" letters for killer Kim. From now on the only dish on Biden's new menu for North Korea's young gourmand "made man" will be the usual special for unwelcome guests at America's table: "Take-it-or-leave-it Tough Love" (served cold).

Joe is here! No lovey-dovey for Kim. Joe already showed Iran (and its nutjob allies) last week he don't take any crap.

Sanctions can work and they do. They played a bid part in ending apartheid in South Africa and they had Moammar Qaddafy cry uncle and pay back the survivors of his terroristic shenanigans. However it wasn't until the 2011 civil war and NATO intervention that got rid of the trouble he posed for good.

Better to have a US official criticizing NoKo’s human rights record than capitulating to and appeasing the Kim family like Trump did repeatedly.

Joe don't want to be a dictator with a personalty cult like Kim. And his eight years as VP for Mr. O has done him well. He learned a lot from being Barack's right hand man. Kudos.

North Korea has nukes and plenty of other weapons, chemical, biological... that can easily reach Japan. The last thing any Japanese should want is either a war or a collapse of the North Korean system. The US has been threatening and sanctioning North Korea for over 50 years and the regime just keeps increasing its military capabilities. These are the facts.

Mister Biden is busy making friends, I was afraid that the time would come when I would start thinking Trump was not that bad after all. Does he think his calling Mr. Putin a murderer while most of us still remember war crimes committed by American soldiers in the middle east, slamming China for its human rights record while the shadow of Guantanamo is still lingering will promote world peace. His only problem could be that China is an economical and military superpower nowadays and not ready to take bullying anymore. I guess real sanctions could hurt the US more than they would hurt China.
