She got what she wanted...a great high then...oops!

seen in Camden Friday night. Apparently off her face buying coke, smack, E & ketamine.

Drugs and booze, and no good friends to worry about you, very, very horrible combination. RIP Amy!

It was inevitable. She didn't take care of her health, was well known for being an alcoholic and drug abuser. Such a waste of a young life and talent. Over the years she had gone from a vibrant, beautiful young woman, to looking old and disheveled. Again, such a waste.

Jaco Pastorius and other great legends of music

And the award for "Most downgraded usage" goes to...

I'm holding out on the idea that she died from her body simply giving out from years of abuse and not OD-ing.

Either way, it's sad and I hope she found peace.

RIP Amy

I'd like to say it was a shame, but it was more of a waste...

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Amen to that, Miamum.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

So very sad, but not entirely unexpected. A voice like hers only comes along once in a generation and now its gone.

The signs were already there when she was doing her European tour and while she was in Belgrade, she was totally out of it, I mean wasted. Not remembering her lyrics, totally off. Then she canceled the entire tour, now if that wasn't a clear indication of what was going to come, then I don't know what is. When I see talent like other great legends: Elvis, Joplin, Morrison, Hendrix, Jaco Pastorius and other great legends of music that have died, all could have been avoided. Sad, but again, that should be a lesson for everyone that think drugs are cool.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Very sad. Tragic loss of an incredible talent, but all so pitifully avoidable.

Its easy to say she was "weak" - and maybe she was - but as anyone who has ever battled with addiction or watched a loved one who has will know, it is a minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour, day-by-day, never ending battle requiring immense courage and determination that so many are sadly just not strong enough to win. RIP Amy

I think that came out wrong but anyway was a response to the statement earlier that we were supposed to pretend it was a tragic shock. "Not surprising, but strangely shocked" may be more accurate. Her father had predicted this for years but apparently believed she was on the road to recovery. What can you say anyway ? It's beyond sad.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It's really sad. Brilliant, brilliant singer who will be greatly missed.

Killed by drugs and psychiatry.

Lizz:

No one has reacted with shock. That is ridiculous.

Your statement is ridiculous. Yeah, I'm sure her parents were unmoved when they were first told of her death.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Drag out the generalizations about drugs.

Some people can't handle them just like some people can't handle the responsibility of owning an automobile. Is it a case for banning them? No. Clearly Winehouse should have been stopped though, but that's her. What artist isn't drugs though?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

I like her music but I knew she would die someday. Like Britney Spears with her addictions.

Some people go rock bottom.

watch her on youtube and you know she had a very short life expectantcy

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Winehouse was a phenomenally talented singer that affected a lot of people in a personal way through her lyrics and story. It is a terrible loss to her family, friends, fans and the music world. No one has reacted with shock. That is ridiculous. And she is on record with dreams of being a wife and mother; not an ungrateful, depressed drunk prone to violence. What is with all the moral posturing in an obit thread ? RIP.

I think this was always expected, but still a shock when it actually happens. I've never been a fan of her as a person - seen too many clips of her half-cut, behaving badly and generally being a really nasty and difficult person. But there is no doubt about her talent - what a waste. I do like some of her songs from Back to Black, and I loved her rendition of Valerie on Youtube.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Kinda surprised she lasted this long.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

The cause of death was not immediately known.

Oh, I think most of us have a vague idea. And we're all supposed to pretend it's a tragic shock and feel sad for her, right? Weak, ungrateful, and self-obsessed. Nobody's fault but her own. I'll save my tears for people who don't bring disaster on themselves.

I've heard rehab compared to prison. You might clean up inside, but if you get out and go back to your old friends, old habits and old lifestyle, you're going to set yourself up for the same thing happening by recreating the circumstances that put you there in the first place. I didn't listen to her music particularly, but it's sad she has died so young.

As soon as someone informed she died, I said OD, right?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Very sad. RIP

Any death iss ad but she was on a path to self destruction for ages. Her father molly coddled her far too much and always blamed everyone else for his daughters drink and drug problems. Instead of helping her change her life he blamed it all on her ex and her friends.

She could have gone far but was too self absorbed and is common in todays celebrity culture thought herself a cut above the rest. She was often violent to fans and very abusive, she had the help and finnaces to sort herself out, she and those close to her were not responsible enough.

Hey, what do you expect when you do hard drugs. Live by the sword, die by the sword, talented, sad, she had an amazing voice, but she was a walking train wreck and she just didn't try hard enough, she had all the help, but chose not to, sad, but don't really feel sorry, but that's part of the industry. She is not the first and definitely won't be the last. I fell for her parents though.

Another artist for the "27 Club" - sad.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Her song "Rehab" is an all time great and a sad reflection of her life.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

a sad and tragic loss. will miss her.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Don't know her music, can't say I liked her look - but she was someone's daughter, and I imagine her family are devastated. Any life ended at 27 is a life wasted. RIP.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Poor woman. Addiction grabs hold on a person, it won't let go without ripping parts of you off to take with it.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Who is she is my question of the day? Self destruction is not in my vocabulary. RIP
