Trump's corporate backers watched him make a fool of himself during the first debate. No doubt they will try to stop him from doing even more damage in a second debate.

Though he's looked ridiculous many times, given how unhinged he came across during the first debate I wonder whether he was suffering from the effects of Covid45 at that time.

And still the pandemic deniers and other eugenicists in Trump's base (US and 'foreign') say 'just another flu'.

I knew this was gonna happen.

Wishing him, his wife ( and the millions around the world ) a speedy recovery.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

lets hope he recovers. Its been sheer hell for him the past 4 years, 24/7 media harassment, impeachment, domestic terrorism, now this. Not once did he divert with foreign wars, just became the beast of burden for all the scum. We are in safe hands with Pence. Interesting watching the MSM dance; careful not to ridicule too much as to offend, but the usual snipes. Trump is one tough dude; just imagine Biden with the same circumstances.

I never hope for anyone to be sick. Now he has an excuse for not winning the election, so the failure isn't "his" fault. I just want him out ASAP.

10 ( +15 / -5 )

Should Trump emerge with no visible effects, he could declare a speedy recovery as proof that he’s been right about COVID-19 being overblown.

I was going to say this but the article says it instead. I would certainly never wish for someone to die, but considering all the damage his downplaying this virus has caused...would I be be breaking JT's user agreement if say that it is necessary and important that he has to fight his way out of the hospital? I hope he sees the light and starts asking people to wear their masks everywhere.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Both he and Melania are showing symptoms.

Apparently he was showing symptoms on Thursday.

Lot of people who claimed otherwise are being shown for what they are....

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Where I live the virus is not overwhelming the health facilities, but I think everyone knows a few people who have gotten sick and died from this thing.

And yet..... I grew up listening to the stories my Mom told about the 1918-1920 pandemic. She was a young girl living in an apartment in New York City with her parents at the time, and had many memories of the "Spanish Flu." From what she told me, that outbreak was much, much worse than this one, so far. The point being that things can get really, really bad, so bad that what we have endured so far will seem like a walk in the park, if we are not smart and careful. Which is to say that we would be much better off if we were served by leadership that listened to the scientists, and which cared about the welfare of the citizens of the world. So far, Trump's leadership has been disastrous, but it could get even worse.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

People are over reacting.  This is no worse than the flu and 99.9% of people have no symptoms.  It will disappear anytime soon.  And masks are, as a regular poster reminds us, un-American (unusual logic).  Trump, an overweight man in his mid-70's, has nothing to worry about.  Just a few sniffles after all.  No need to isolate Bannon.  Children are immune.

The campaign is over: Covid-19 has ended the "debates". The American people will end this administration.

As more and more people test positive, there are going to be tough questions as to why Trump and others didn't quarantine when they knew Hicks was infected on AF #1....

A small group of White House officials knew by Thursday morning that Hicks had contracted Covid-19, according to CNN Correspondent Kaitlan Collins -- but Trump still took a trip to New Jersey for a fundraiser, and press secretary Kayleigh McEnany still held a news briefing at the White House on Thursday.

McEnany didn't wear a mask at the briefing, and made no mention of Hicks' diagnosis to reporters in the room, Collins said.

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/519335-white-house-learned-of-hicks-positive-test-before-trump-left-for

Nothing but total incompetence from the Trump administration from beginning to end WRT the virus...

8 ( +10 / -2 )

If he had bothered to listen to the experts screaming in his ear, would we be in this situation?

Not buying it, a lot of people got the virus and wore masks, wearing a mask will not guarantee that you won't get the virus and in the WH the majority of the staff wear masks, Trump gets tested almost every other day in the WH as well as the staff and Trump around and exposed to a lot of people that had the virus and it also depends on the level of the infection and on whether he got a smaller dose or a larger does of the virus, but that they are experimenting with the latest vaccines and he's in the best of hands so they can give him whatever he needs to fight this.

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

I like how they express "few days" in quotations. Well played.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

wearing a mask will not guarantee that you won't get the virus

You are correct - no guarantee. It does, however, make it less likely.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery, but given his age, he should probably take a couple of months off work.

The decline and fall of America:

"President Donald Trump will spend a “few days” at a military hospital after contracting COVID-19, the White House said Friday, as the virus that has killed more than 205,000 Americans spread to the highest reaches of the U.S. government. Trump “remains fatigued,” his doctor said."

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Trump supporters need to get real over this - there are medical facilities at the White House and his personal doctor is there 24/7...

Trump being admitted to Walter Reed means this is serious - he is the perfect candidate for someone to have major health implications - over 70, over weight, poor diet...

Trump supporters need to be ready for a lengthy hospital stay at best, and something more dire at worst...

5 ( +7 / -2 )

trevorpeace - thanks.

Not buying it, a lot of people got the virus and wore masks, wearing a mask will not guarantee that you won't get the virus

If you have the virus but are not yet symptomatic (or know you have it but ignore advice and go out anyway) a properly fitting face mask prevents you from infecting others. That is their primary value. One would need an N95 mask and eye protection to be protected from the virus by some they themselves wear. Wearing a mask is about preventing you from possibly infecting others, but one has to accept some notions that individuals have some obligations to others in their community to take precautions, including social distancing and avoiding situations that can spread the disease to others so community spread is minimized. Too many Americans refuse to acknowledge they have any obligations other that to themselves, which is not the case. We pay a real price for this kind of selfishness.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

wearing a mask will not guarantee that you won't get the virus

Sigh. I think we've all had just about enough of this idiocy. A seatbelt also does not guarantee you will survive a car crash, but it has been proven to reduce the risk of injury and death.

As for Trumps Presidency, well it is now a smoking car wreck where the occupants refused to buckle up.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Trump being admitted to Walter Reed means this is serious - he is the perfect candidate for someone to have major health implications - over 70, over weight, poor diet...

Yes, of course it is serious, it's the Coronavirus, but not having underlying pre-conditions is a huge factor when it comes to dealing with the virus, but there were Boris Johnson, Mikhail Mishustin, Bolsonaro, PM Dutton, Iran's deputy health minister Iraj Harirchi, Yaakov Litzman, Michael Barnier and Prince Charles and they all wore masks and they all recovered and since Trump is at Walter Reed, he does have a better advantage.

Trump supporters need to be ready for a lengthy hospital stay at best, and something more dire at worst...

Or a shorter stay, liberals need to possibly get ready for that.

Serious? I thought both you and Trump said it was "just the flu"....

Feb 26th: "This is a flu," the president said in a briefing. "It's like a regular flu that we have flu shots for.

Trump supporters need to be ready for a lengthy hospital stay at best, and something more dire at worst...

Or a shorter stay, liberals need to possibly get ready for that.

If it's a shorter stay then we'll know it was all a scam and con-job to try to help his failing reelection...

7 ( +8 / -1 )

He is quite fat, old, and has quite a poor diet. He isn't as spritely as Biden despite being younger, so this could be a concern going forward too.

I'm sure he'll be fine though, he has access to all his favourite snake oils

5 ( +7 / -2 )

What about his ignorant supporters and thousands others who have been infected due to trump’s lying and denying????

Or the rioters and protesters? I'm no doctor, but I am sure the virus doesn't discriminate between rioters or Trump supporters, I would tend to think the virus is an equal opportunity killer.....

Doesnt matter, trump and his followers have egg on their faces.

Hardly, we just continue to live our lives like we always have, still doesn't change my position on the mask.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

If he had bothered to listen to the experts screaming in his ear, would we be in this situation?

If he hadn't closed down travel from China Jan. 31 ( Biden wouldn't have ) we'd have a lot more than 200,000 dead.

And to all the people saying Trump had it coming because he doesn't wear a mask most of the time, so that applies to the 1 million + people who have died from the virus too, right?

72 hrs from now we'll see footage of him playing golf and saying "It just went away"...

2 weeks from now we'll see him out of quarantine with no symptoms, to your great dismay.

-12 ( +3 / -15 )

Or the rioters and protesters? I

i don’t hold trump responsible for the proud boys or the Michigan klansmen.

He might have encouraged them but it’s their stupidity which brought them there.

Mocks the use of masks

Has several super-spreader events

Packs high-level officials from all three branches of govt into an enclosed space to announce his nominee.

Knows his aide is positive and that he’s been exposed and goes to NJ anyway.

And now he, 2 Senators, The head of Norte Dame and who knows how many others are infected and contagious. Basically the majority of the Executive Branch will be quarantined for 2 weeks. And a senior National Security Official says “I have no idea what is going on.”

This is what government incompetence looks like. Let’s get rid of him and move on.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

If he hadn't closed down travel from China Jan. 31

He didn't close it down, he restricted it. Thousands of Chinese nationals and Americans living in China were still allowed into the the US for months afterwards. And it was from Feb 2nd, not Jan 31st.

And it's irrelevant because the 'ban' that wasn't actually a ban didn't actually work since Trump spent the rest of February doing absolutely nothing else.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The positive for trump is that he has an excuse for his defeat.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

The positive for trump is that he has an excuse for his defeat.

Corona defeated him many months ago. He never had the mental calibre to be able to deal with a scenario where his usual lies and corruption are ineffective. He actually thought he could BS the virus out of existence. It only remains to be seen whether or not his body can defeat it.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Serrano......closing travel with China did nothing to stop the virus from entering the US, as most US cases came from the EU. Trump should have closed that too....but...well...China is an easier target.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

No wonder. Had he been asymptomatic, Trump would have definitely rejected testing.

A bright side (?) is that the symptomatic period under treatment could be shortened for full recovery while the self-isolation usually takes two weeks.

P. Smith

If he had bothered to listen to the experts screaming in his ear, would we be in this situation?

It's an election year and he cannot let a virus ruin his chance to win the second term. He must, at any cost, convince American people that the virus is not a problem. "No mask, no social distance, no business closing."

He is a person who is not capable of accepting any advice that could mean his defeat.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Kellyanne is positive.

How many more non maskers are paying the price for their stupidity.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

At his age he is vulnerable but politics aside, i wish him n families get well soon.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

And Kellyanne Conway just announced her positive diagnosis. People, we are just getting warmed up. There are now reports that the entire Trump entourage were ignoring and flaunting not following social distancing and other precautionary measures during the debate. People in his group were seen openly not wearing face masks.

Vote this November as if your life depended on it.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

The president did not believe the severity of virus at the beginning, reluctant to enforce the restriction rules, unwilling to wear mask here and there,.. Now what, the virus refuses to make him an exception. The most crucial question is: What next?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Listening to Trump make fun of Biden for wearing a mask and how he wears it during the debate, and then seeing Trump whisked away on live TV in a helicopter wrapped snugly in his big black face mask to undergo coronavirus treatment doesn't look too good.

It would make a great pro-Biden campaign ad for TV, wouldn't it? It's like one of those See, I told you so! moments.

This might have just put it in the bag for Biden.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Not wearing a mask and meeting with people already infected is insane. Pelosi should be put in charge and Pence in his usual behavior mode has not even made a public speech and says nothing. The president is incapacitated and the law says that when the president can't function the role of commander and chief passes down the ladder, which would be Pence then Pelosi but Pence is and is not a leader. Hope our enemy's or perceived enemy's don't take this opportunity to their advantage.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

"I don't wear masks like him," Trump said at Tuesday's debate. "Every time you see him, he's got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away from me, and he shows up with the biggest mask I've ever seen."

You could not post a more textbook example of irony than Trump being diagnosed with covid-19 after the debate, a debate in which he and his entourage continued to flaunt not following precautionary measures to reduce the risk of catching the virus or spreading it. A man that from the beginning of this year knew the deadly implications of the virus, yet continued to minimize the threat of coronavirus even to this day. And now it is this very virus he mocked and downplayed, which will be the final proverbial nail in the coffin for his campaign to be re-elected.

Poetic justice.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

At best, Trump can hope to come out of this with his health intact, but his campaign is OVER.

The virus is the top issue for voters - and Trump just proved he can't even protect himself, his wife, or any of his cabinet...

And what's so ironic is that Trump was hoping to use the SCOTUS announcement last Sat to divert from talking about the virus for the next 30 days...and what happens? His announcement turns into a virus super-spreader event with 9 people so far infected...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It kind of proves the opposite. trump was more well protected than anyone else. Still got it.

if he comes out a week later all fine, it shows all this Lockdown and mask stuff isn’t necessary. shows that most people who don’t have comorbities can actually survive this with slight to no symptoms.

then corona becomes a non issue and we get on with our lives.
