The only way I'll get behind this is if the three day to day uniform colors are yellow, red, and blue.

Well with a "space cadet" at the helm, just how bad could it be?

All joking aside, this is a very serious undertaking which required serious consideration.

Whether this goes through or not depends upon a Congress which understands the state of affairs internationally and the technology used.

With China and Russia already heavily into a space military programs and without regard to international standards and/or consideration, there is ONLY the USA and possibly the EU and Japan that are capable of meeting any threat from space. With N Korea (though questionable) also into mastering space technology and with ill intentions so far against the US, with now obvious backing of China and S Korea, the US must "consider the imminent threat and the need for such a space force.

Any major threat from close proximity space is almost impossible to stop from earth. We cannot even stop meteors and asteroids with our given technology and available resources at this point and time. It is as much or even much more dangerous than the robotics technology now being developed for the military by many nations.

It will be prudent to have such a force in place "prior" to any other nation "threatening" the US and the entire world from space. (Sounds almost like a James Bond movie, but then it is a definite possibility today.)

Do you know what happens if you get shot in space, one shot kills all day long. At least the ammunition would explode or burn up passing through the atmosphere. Also, I imagine if the bullets missed their target, they have the potential of free falling in orbit around the earth and coming back around killing the person that shot it in the first place.

I want to see American space cadets in form fitting silver suits in Charlie's Angels type poses. Please Oh Lord bring back the 60's and 70's science fiction!

I like the word “collides” as with thousands and thousands of pieces of space junk up there, that is what will happen to these in orbit nukes.

The militarization of outer space is banned by treaties signed in the early 60s. And Donnie Douschbag is just giving flatulence again. He thinks he's a deity, after all.

And that's why the Russians and the Chinese have not made any advances in this area... wait a minute...

"Both China and Russia have weaponized space with the intent to hold American capabilities at risk," Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan told the Senate Armed Services Committee, whose endorsement he sought for the new force.

So, starpunk, we cede space to the Russians and the Chinese in order not to violate any treaties, OK?

LOL @people who believe they actually own space!

Send all the startroopers and their laser guns into that black hole and be done with them.

Donny has been ceding American influence to china and Russia from day one, so why not continue?

There is a problem with the idea in the first place. The Outer Space Treaty has to be considered period.... and 2nd, this is a freaking solar system, located in one spiral arm in the galaxy, located in a full galaxy, in a universe, which may or may not one of many universes, located in a dimension/parallel reality, with multitudes of timelines.... We sure as $#!+ aren't the only "sentient" beings with weapons, and we shouldn't be going out to space with our little paltry squabbles between countries trying to get over on each other when something else, or a whole organized group of non-terrestrial beings could make us space dust in 0.0001 milliseconds.
