treating Israel with “total disdain,”

I'm trying to square Trump's quote (assuming he actually said it and wasn't: 1. just kidding; 2. being sarcastic; 3. taken out of context with this bit from FOX 'news' on Sept. 28, 2016:

The United States on Wednesday signed an unprecedented new security agreement with Israel that will give the Israeli military $38 billion over 10 years.

The deal, the largest such agreement the U.S. has ever had with any country, amounts to $3.8 billion a year beginning in budget year 2019, compared with $3.1 billion the U.S. gave Israel annually under the current 10-year deal that expires in 2018.

Trump thanked himself for a surge in a key gauge of consumer confidence.

Emperor Don, where do you have your line of clothing made?

PTownsend: I'm trying to square Trump's quote ... with this bit from FOX 'news' on Sept. 28, 2016:

The key element is the date of September. Assuming Obama had anything to do with it, a large funding bill benefiting Israel could be taken as pandering to Jewish votes to pad the expected anointment of Hillary, Muslim votes and influence being a fraction of Jews' in the USA.

And, as a lame duck, after the election Obama doesn't have to care what Israel thinks, and can pay off old scores.

Yes or no?

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

I don't expect the Trump administration to facilitate its own retirement from power with much grace when the time comes. Quite the opposite looking at Trump and how obstructive the Republicans have been. Obama should just let the petulant idiot take over cold and fumble in his first few months.

I will miss Obama and his family. I looked forward to the State of the Union Addresses. I enjoyed his presidency. No scandals. Never did you hear him say "it's legal for me to do that." No double talk. He is methodical, smart, cool, kind and humble. I liked that he didn't blow his horn all the time. He has a great sense of humor. I felt safe with him as my president. He worked hard to unite us with other nations. It wasn't perfect, but is it ever. He is my favorite president. May peace return to our America soon. Because we are great!

Gallup poll shows Obama is the most respected man in America, beating Trump hugely. That makes the Donald very angry.

9 ( +15 / -6 )

@Tubostat I'm aware the dates don't match. My point was I find it impossible to believe that anyone can possibly see the US is treating or has treated Israel with disdain. Ever.

I can't untangle what you wrote about who's pandering to whom, but I think Congress members - primarily Republicans as you know - voted to support more funding to Israel to appease some of their election campaign contributors AND to continue to provide huge sums of taxpayer's money to feed the various military related industries. I think funding the weapons makers is a key reason why the US continues to provide funding to Israel.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

"Thin-skinned" doesn't begin to describe Trump's narcissistic psyche, and that does not bode well for his country or the world.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

PTownsend: My point was I find it impossible to believe that anyone can possibly see the US is treating or has treated Israel with disdain. ... I think Congress members - primarily Republicans as you know - voted to support more funding ...

"Congress members - primarily Republican" ... so not Obama.

The question is Obama's disdain for Israel and Netanhayu, not the USA's. I thought that disdain was well-known. There's another article just today on JT about Kerry's speech:

https://www.japantoday.com/category/world/view/in-parting-shot-kerry-tears-into-israel-over-settlements

In parting shot, Kerry tears into Israel over settlements - Dec. 29, 2016

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

@Turbostat Again I'm not sure what you're saying, but if you're criticizing Obama and Kerry for letting Netanyahu know they won't be his martinets this time then I disagree with your criticism.

On an aside, I am concerned that in a few short weeks the world will see Trump (in his defense no one knows what positions he'll actually take once in office) on a stage with Putin and Xi plus loose cannons like Netanyahu, Duterte, Erdogan, Assad, the Al Sauds, Ali Khamenei, Kim and others, leaders with histories of extreme violence.

Do people honestly support Netanyahu throwing more fuel on a burning fire?

4 ( +6 / -2 )

So now the world is stuck with a thin-skinned, flip-flopping, semi illiterate , asinine, Twitter obsessed spoiled brat, who makes 'NOT' jokes.

I will miss Obama and his family.

A lot of us won't! A lot of us will be celebrating his departure.

Gallup poll shows Obama is the most respected man in America, beating Trump hugely. That makes the Donald very angry.

After this scathing and troublesome lies that the MSM submitted to the public during the campaign, I will say, many people are skeptical about the polls now as so many of them were proven wrong or even outright lies. I believe Obama is popular with his liberal progressive base, but most respected man? Interesting? Who was polled? I never heard my doorbell ring or received a phone survey.

But anyway, doesn't matter what the poll says in all honesty, he's packing and I'm laughing!

-15 ( +1 / -16 )

Later, however, journalists at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida asked him about the tweet and how he thought the transition was going.

He said: “I think very, very smoothly. It’s very good. You don’t think so?”

Either dementia or the easy-to-forget (as all lies are) truthful hyperbole Trump has spent a career baiting his opponents with.

"Gallup poll shows Obama is the most respected man in America, beating Trump hugely. That makes the Donald very angry."

I heard a wonderful quote describing Trump as the Rodney Dangerfield of billionaires ( if he actually is a billionaire ). The commentator also went on to describe how Trump, a running joke and a vindictive, thin-skinned man, will love to get revenge on those who ridiculed him.

A scary prospect.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

That and mentioning the fact Trump didn't win the popular vote, which gets under Trump's skin. Democrats should remind him of that frequently.

Considering the events surrounding Obama, I would say, the man is NOT only thin skinned and holds a grudge, but also vindictive and we are seeing the result of that.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

Throwing up inflammatory roadblocks?! - why, that's outrageous! Your poor snowflake.

"By the way, Donald, weren't you born in Russia? You haven't shown us your birth certificate yet. No, no, not that one - the long form one. The original, not a copy. And you'll have to let us personally examine it to check for its authenticity." - THAT is a roadblock. What Obama is doing is policy.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Let's see. President Obama has until January 20th to govern. About time someone says the truth to Israel. Doubt any New York politician will ever say it like it is. They can't and get be elected. Israel has very tough problems and I won't pretend to have a solution, but pissing off the people you hope to negotiate with is NOT a good way. People need to have hope for a better life for them and their children. Take that away and violence increases.

On January 20th, that's when Mr. Trump becomes President Trump. Prior to that, I really wish he'd STFU.

I will NOT miss President Obama. He had 8 yrs of 0% Fed rates, yet the economy never took off? That's a really sad record. And how many of his promises were kept? My eye glasses aren't rose colored. Peace Prize winner? Puuu-leese.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Considering the events surrounding Obama, I would say, the man is NOT only thin skinned and holds a grudge, but also vindictive and we are seeing the result of that.

Obama went through 8 years of outright racism, and having his birthplace questioned, with a grand total of zero nasty tweets or twitter wars.

I'd say the guy's thin is as thick as a rhino's.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Trump can't leave a single day alone

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Obama was in a dream position. The media was on his side from before he was elected to this day.

If Bush or Trump did the same things - go golfing or fundraising during or immediately after a crisis, the media would crucify them.

So, it's been a easy ride for him. Let's be honest. If you just get elected and get a Nobel Peace Prize, you're not being treated normally.

Young people love Obama, because he goes on late night shows, as does his wife. ANd they are great at that.

America is in a worse position because of him - but he and his wife have great style.

Americans should be able to now say they aren't racist - they did the black President thing.

So Obama should leave in dignity, not try to get revenge against Trump for winning even though Obama and his wife tried everything they could do to stop him - and be as gracious as Trump has been.

Because we know one thing. Attack Trump, and you'll get it back.

Its going to be a great four years. I just hope Obama and liberals can stop the whining, crying, sulking and vindictiveness and get behind their President.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

"By the way, Donald, weren't you born in Russia? You haven't shown us your birth certificate yet. No, no, not that one - the long form one. The original, not a copy. And you'll have to let us personally examine it to check for its authenticity." - THAT is a roadblock.

No, that was attempt at comedy.

What Obama is doing is policy.

What Obama has done was vindictive.

Obama went through 8 years of outright racism,

The race card again, with all the people that voted for him in the beginning, most of them White, that entire racism argument is just falling on deaf ears. Any repudiation of Obama's policies had nothing to do with the color of his skin. It's best to leave the race card alone, it's so outdated and in a few weeks we don't need to drone on about race.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

America is in a worse position because of him

Wait, are you really trying to claim America is worse off than it was when he took office?

Wow, the ignorance is astounding. Absolutely astounding.

Post-truthism reaches new levels.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

@bass The race card again,

And once again 'the race card' is an expression I've only heard used by whites, especially those who have a history of saying or posting ethnocentric (I'm being PC) things. Of course it can't be proved that whites who use the expression are racist, nonetheless when they do it's usually easy to apply the duck test. Any time I hear 'race card' quacked I say 'it's a duck'.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Bunch of MSM links there.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Wait, are you really trying to claim America is worse off than it was when he took office?

Give it a few more weeks and we don't have to worry about hearing the race card anymore, because the racist Obama will be a bleak memory.

Obama Added $7.917 Trillion to the National Debt, 68 Percent Spike - 27 Dec 2016

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

I will NOT miss President Obama. He had 8 yrs of 0% Fed rates, yet the economy never took off?

And a majority of those 8 yrs with a Republican controlled congress who would never, ever do anything to stimulate the economy. They would rather the economy suffer than give him any credit. Remember when Republicans fought with President Obama over increasing infrastructure spending when he took office during the recession? It was stripped down and passed with only a handful of votes. And now? Republicans have suddenly had an epiphany and are poised to pass infrastructure spending. Funny how people have selective memories.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Obama is sort of a coward. Now is the time for him to make some real decisions because he doesn't have to deal with the consequences of those decisions. And that wonderful thing he did for the economy was actually just printing out more money.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

Obama Added $7.917 Trillion to the National Debt, 68 Percent Spike - 27 Dec 2016

Which is NO chump change and now will be passed over to Trump as well as the ongoing war in Syria and Afghanistan

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

Obama Added $7.917 Trillion to the National Debt,

Bush added most of that. Obama just came into office when the bills came due.

The U.S. Consumer Confidence Index for December surged nearly four points to 113.7, THE HIGHEST LEVEL IN MORE THAN 15 YEARS! Thanks Donald!

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/12/27/obama-added-7-917-trillion-to-the-national-debt-68-percent-spike/

A breakdown of Obama’s budgets for each fiscal year and the amount they added to the debt comes from an analysis produced by thebalance.com:

FY 2016 – $1.423 trillion.

FY 2015 – $327 billion.

FY 2014 – $1.086 trillion.

FY 2013 – $672 billion.

FY 2012 – $1.276 trillion.

FY 2011 – $1.229 trillion.

FY 2010 – $1.652 trillion.

FY 2009 – $253 billion. (Congress passed the Economic Stimulus Act, which spent $253 billion in FY 2009. This rare occurrence should be added to President Obama’s contribution to the debt.)

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

It's going to be 4 loooong years folks.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Consensus has it that Russia hacked several accounts and released information selectively to influence the election. That's natural. Obama recently announced plans to slap sanctions on Putin personally as retribution. That's natural. Then Trump weighs in:

I think we ought to get on with our lives. I think that computers have complicated lives very greatly. The whole age of computer has made it where nobody knows exactly what’s going on.

That's - what? Many adjectives come to mind, none complimentary. How long will it be until Trump strides into Berlin, bellowing, "Rebuild that wall!"

3 ( +4 / -1 )

It's going to be 4 loooong years folks.

God forbid! It could be eight, Spanki. Those who voted for him seem to be in an obstinate state of denial already about his suitability and the US electorate is not known for either sophistication or perspicacity.

January 20th cannot come soon enough!!!

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

Trump is the most unpopular president elect ever. He lost by nearly 3 million votes, another record for an incoming president, he has no mandate so naturally it's tough. He spent years personally attacking POTUS as illegitimate and is now whining about a rough transition. His transition is going badly cause he has no idea what to do when the constitution restrains SOP.

Obama's last official duty which he must surely be dreading is to accompany the president elect in the limo to the inauguration. It will be a most uncomfortable ride for both of them. Whatever the temperature outside it will feel like sub-zero to Obama silently choking on the fumes from Trump's infamous aftershave while attempting to warm up the icy atmosphere flashing his famous smile and displaying his sense of humor to set at ease a visibly uptight Trump. I'd love to be a fly in that limo.

For those who fear eight years or even four years of an orange presidency, I predict he'll not even complete his first term, but then we're stuck with a President Pence, a veritable avatar of Dan Quayle. Oy Gevalt! May the Force be with us!

You do realize, I assume, that a majority of voters chose Clinton, that you and the others who voted for Trump are a minority in the USA.

Ok and?

If that were true, Dems would have majorities everywhere, but what to they have? They don't have the presidency, the Senate, the House, most of the legislative branch are Republicans, 33 States have Republican mayors and during Trump's 4-8 year presidency, the courts Supreme and lower courts will be backed with conservative or at least right leaning judges. So besides Hillary being beloved by the left, what do you guys really have? Seriously? LOL

And thanks for our Electoral College system, now we have Obama OUT (joy) and our NEW president "Trump" for the next 4-8 years with MORE Republican legislators, CONTROLLING the House, the Senate, more STATE GOVERNORS, soon appointed CONSERVATIVE Judges. 22 more days until our NEW president Donald J. Trump takes over.

The fact still remains... whether any of you may like it or not... Mr. Obama DID place huge hurdles and extremely difficult walls before Mr. Trump which timing is extremely doubtful as being meaningful or useful for America. At time of transition and when the world is in turmoil, such anion is probably not desirable. It only made things difficult for Mr. Trump. Like it or not, he is the next President. Those who likes Democrats and Obama may like the effort. Those that want change may like Trump. But the actions are definitely intentional and meant to hurt Mr. Trump. The world wants to see what Trump is going to do and not be forces to act because of some blatant actions by Obama which forces a one-sided issue.

Only time will tell whether such actions by Mr. Obama was really meant to help the people of the world as he states.

I for one, doubt it. Unless there is some major disaster that he knows about that affects the entire world such as a world war or an asteroid impact, much of what he has done during his administration, especially currently.., are so full of contradictions in rhetoric and action that it does not make reasonable sense.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Obama has been doing his job as president. Trump put up his own walls, by making statements that are at odds with decades of American policy, when he is supposed to step into and continue that American policy. If he wasn't so out there, nothing Obama has done would be putting up any walls.

Huh? Where have you been? Obama is a weak leader. Obama, is incapable of providing the necessary leadership strengths. In this case it includes both domestic and foreign leadership. A strong leader knows how to chose his or her support staff to provide the highest degree of strength to complement their leadership to which Obama failed miserably. Anyone without prejudice would accept the problems of Obama's presidency as weakness in leadership, unpreparedness, incompetence and in general lack of understanding in problem solving both before and after problems.

Obama has been a very strong leader. The upcoming president has shown nothing to show he will be a good leader. He has only shown weakness that he feigns to be strengths. Unfortunately he doesn't have the intelligence to realize that he doesn't know what he's talking about.

In this case it includes both domestic and foreign leadership.

Obama has strong leadership in Iraq, Syria, and middle east policy? After 8 years, where? Back to square one.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Obama has strong leadership in Iraq, Syria, and middle east policy?

Insofar has how he has acted with the US being in the middle east at all - yes. It would be better if the US had pulled out altogether, but I don't see the president being able to accomplish that - Congress and other vested interests wouldn't allow it, there is too much money there.

After 8 years, where? Back to square one.

Square one for Obama was the US being involved in two wars, one of which was based on lies, and turned into a hellpit.

Let's hope Trump doesn't bring us back to that square one, or regress even further.

I think I may have finally figured out what's going on with Trump and these infantile tweets. His 10-year-old computer savant of a son, Barron, has hacked his Twitter account. I mean, how else can you explain a man about to take on the highest public office in the land willing to use ". . . NOT!" in a Tweet about transition of power?

Goreme,

What an embarrassment for the US. Frightening that over 50% of American voters selected him.

I'm afraid you're mistaken. Out of all eligible voters in this election, only 57.9% voted. Of those, 25.6% voted for Clinton and 25.5% voted for Trump. Trump has the support of one quarter of the electorate.

What is embarrassing is that 90 million eligible American voters simply didn't. In effect, they said, "I can't be bothered to take an interest in my democracy."

And soon we will have a grown man with the temperament of a 10-year-old for president.
