Congratulations to the graduates. Trump is everything you try to teach a young officer not to be and the majority of the cadets will see him for what he is. A con man with no integrity, honor, or class.

This coming from the man who called out Lincoln's freeing of the slaves as "questionable" in regards to Lincoln's legacy, AND who states that he has done more for Black's in America than any other president in history!

How much more guano can this guy shovel?

16 ( +22 / -6 )

William Wilberforce helped lead the campaign to push the British Parliament to pass the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833. Thirty years before the Americans did the same.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

A bit late to the program there, chief.

Trump reading out words written by someone else is the most unnatural thing in the world. He is so bad at reading out anything and just sounds so unauthentic. If he goes off the teleprompter, he just talks in circles and goes off on tangents. If there ever were a military coup in the US, it would happen in these last remaining 6 months of his office.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Nice words. Too bad he's told so many 'intentional misinformations' and 'alternative facts' plus has repeatedly flip-flopped and claimed 'I didn't say that' on top of having a history of hawking bogus products (see Trump U) that nothing he says can be believed. Except by his true believing followers, perhaps.

What what he said does suggest is Trump's 'elite' handlers have come to the realization that he's alienated such a huge number of Americans that if he doesn't try 'pandering' to more he'll lose the election and they'll risk losing some of the many benefits they've got thanks to him.

Douglas McArthur

Not a hero. His arrogance and narcissism (wonder why Trump mentioned him) resulted in a botched handling of the Korean War resulting in the needless deaths of thousands of allied troops. On top of botching operations in the Philippines.

As U.S. seethes over race, Trump calls out 'evil of slavery'

I’m not of fan of Trump, but I think it’s important to recognize any good move or action or comment by our leaders. At least he got this right.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Yrral - Trump claim he employed more Blacks than Lincoln under slavery, where slavery employed Blacks at 100 percent

"Slavery" didn't "employ" slaves. Being employed means you are payed a wage, or given just compensation.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

“What has historically made America unique is the durability of its institutions against the passions and prejudices of the moment,” Trump said. “When times are turbulent, when the road is rough, what matters most is that which is permanent, timeless, enduring and eternal.”

The barefaced audacity of the man is chilling.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Thirty years before the Americans did the same.

Good on the ruling class Brits, who must also be remembered as being instrumental in starting and maintaining the Atlantic slave trades.

This is a bit of a falsehood. Actually, America (as in the Union States) abolished slavery 30 years before the Brits, By 1804, slavery was abolished in the north. Congrats to the Brits for following the US example. Then the north went to war to enforce the same on the southern states.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Well, he had a good day today. Build on it.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

In the 1800s the Democrats were a pro slavery party.

Tear down statues of Democrats!

In the future, no one will have to worry about tearing down a Donald Trump statue. Wimpy hypocrites who represent the worst of America don't get one.

Oh wait, Donald will probably build one or sixty himself, proclaiming them with the title, 'Donald Trump, the greatest president ever, who did more for black people than any other president, including Abraham Lincoln, who did good, but the end result was questionable'

It gets repeated over and over, but Trump is a racist. The end result was freeing slavery, it wasn't questionable other than to white racist individuals.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

In fact, no other country on earth has done as much as the USA to combat slavery and racial discrimination.

Noidal - given that slavery was still legal in the US until about 1860, this is quite an absurd claim. Even Britain was actively involved in suppressing the slave trade:

160 years have passed since then, so no it's not an absurd claim. (Not to mention the Northern States abolished slavery before Britain.) The difference of a couple decades that long ago has little bearing on the next 2 centuries.

The slave trade was run by Jews, WHO CLAIM A DIFFERENT RACE. To run this scam, they set up the same old "divide and conquer" in Africa and had, via skirmishes and wars, the black africans bring them captive blacks from other tribes, and THOSE went on the slave ships the Jews ran.

Nice to see the anti-Semites in our midst. This is why I believe in free speech. It brings these vile people out of the shadows where we can see them.

Burning Bush

In the 1800s the Democrats were a pro slavery party.

Do we explain the history of what the 1860s Democrats stood for compared to the present day Democrats again? You know better than that.

Good point.

With apologies to Jeff Foxworthy....

If you believe someone who tells you the COVID virus has "magically disappeared".....

Even though the CDC says there are on average 18K new cases every day, and that on average 500 more people die from the virus every 24 hours...

And this person who said the virus has "magically disappeared" invites you to his rally - BUT - only if you sign a waiver freeing him from any liability if you catch this virus (that has disappeared)....

And you still go to the rally and cheer with your Trump 2020 banners and Confederate flags....

You must be a Trump supporter...

Noidal - given that slavery was still legal in the US until about 1860, this is quite an absurd claim. Even Britain was actively involved in suppressing the slave trade:

The Royal Navy, which then controlled the world's seas, established the West Africa Squadron in 1808 to patrol the coast of West Africa, and between 1808 and 1860 they seized approximately 1,600 slave ships and freed 150,000 Africans who were aboard.[

Those slaves world have been on their way to Brazil or the USA.

Kinda surprised that Avenger even got others to agree with his anti-Semitic rant and white power-backed link. Could this be likes from the usual Trump supporters here or just his sock puppets.

Tear down statues of Democrats!

Today's meme from a drive-by flamethrower.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Thirty years before the Americans did the same.

Good on the ruling class Brits, who must also be remembered as being instrumental in starting and maintaining the Atlantic slave trades.

When it comes to slavery, there were no slavers righteous, no not one. Not the British, French, Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish nor the Danish. And especially not the US Americans. And even to a much lesser degree Canadians.

trump is no different.

trump employs Illegal Immigrants @ his hotels, resorts & golf clubs.

All of these fine young men and women graduates, hold the utmost respect for their leaders who have shown courage, integrity, leadership, and valor - leaders like Gen's Mattis, Kelly, Milley, Dunford...

When they look at this President, they see a coward who ran from his military service, who ridiculed a hero like John McCain, who insulted a Gold Star family, and who hides in a bunker when some elderly protesters show up.

He's the complete opposite of what they have spent four years learning...duty, honor, country....

2 ( +9 / -7 )

Donald Trump expounding on the values associated with West Point....

Duty: "I was very dutiful - I did my best to get out of my military service, and shirk my duty to my country"....

Honor: "There is no more honorable thing, than hanging out with Jeffry Epstein, Roy Moore, and Stormy Daniels"....

Country: "My country, first and always.....Russia"....

As much as his legion of followers can eat, apparently.

When there is looting and burning on the streets because of one rogue cop’s action THEN it is time to send in the military!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

According to Joe Biden, who said this in the Senate in 1993.

Trump said President Obama was born in Kenya

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Instead of the long, hypocritical speech that Donald Trump delivered at my alma mater today (and yes, I watched the entire speech online), let me instead quote from a more eloquent speech, delivered by yes, a man with a wide streak of narcissism, but also an understanding of certain things that Trump will never, ever grasp:

Douglas MacArthur, whom Trump mentioned and quoted, in his final speech to the Corps back in 1962:

"Duty, Honor, Country" — those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be. They are your rallying point to build courage when courage seems to fail, to regain faith when there seems to be little cause for faith, to create hope when hope becomes forlorn.

...

They teach you to be proud and unbending in honest failure, but humble and gentle in success; not to substitute words for action; not to seek the path of comfort, but to face the stress and spur of difficulty and challenge; to learn to stand up in the storm, but to have compassion on those who fall; to master yourself before you seek to master others; to have a heart that is clean, a goal that is high; to learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep; to reach into the future, yet never neglect the past; to be serious, yet never take yourself too seriously; to be modest so that you will remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength.

...

These are words that Donald Trump can never live. They are precepts he can never understand. They are morals in which he will never, ever grasp.

For Donald Trump, it is not 'Duty, Honor, Country,' but 'Me, Myself, and I.'

And for that, I both honor the now graduated Class of 2020, and mourn that they were so besmirched on the day of their own graduation.

led by whites; and where more whites have died for human rights than anywhere else on earth

Those darn blacks can't do anything for themselves, whites have to take charge. Now we have white (orange, sorry) Trump to the rescue. But then how come Trump said that Obama was born in Kenya if he's not racist?

no other country on earth has done as much as the USA to combat slavery and racial discrimination

WRONG!!!

Look at all the way the criminal system is treating blacks.

Trump's legacy is going to be one of death!

agondocz - William Wilberforce helped lead the campaign to push the British Parliament to pass the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833. Thirty years before the Americans did the same.

You should also thank the English for bringing slaves to North America in the mid 1600s.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

So what justification is there to allow statues from all those countries to remain standing?

Like the Statue of Liberty, a gift from France? Good question, especially these days when far right extremists push for closing the US borders to immigrants and refugees. Maybe Americans tearing down statues are looking at former soviet 'socialist republics' where statues of Stalin and Lenin have been torn down as a statement by citizens there they are no longer being oppressed Moscow's totalitarian regime. Among any number of other reasons.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Not the British, French, Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish nor the Danish.

Why mention such a minuscule number of the countries or regions that were slavers back in the day: slavery was important for nearly all the major powers: Arabia, the Ottoman Empire, the Ashanti Empire, Abyssinia, the Haida nation, etc, etc.

Slavery, like prostitution, was considered inevitable.....until Britain stepped in to fight it and stop it on a global scale.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

people who "display the Confederate flag" are "fine people."

And they had to travel and get together to hear this blabbering rubbish from a TRAITOR who has no honor or morals. Military officers and Academy grads are supposed to be of high character and morality and it's disgusting that they had to sit and listen to this low-life who has none. He does not value the military nor does he respect it. I feel sorry for the grads who had to listen to all this crap. As a military veteran I find this to be absolutely revolting and disgusting!

And they had to travel and get together to hear this blabbering rubbish from a TRAITOR who has no honor or morals.

I don’t see him trying to launch bogus investigations, keep our troops overseas, wants to tax small businesses into oblivion or punish success or hate our police or our military support violent thugs rioting and looting, loves the country, hugs the flag, destroy our enemies, Pro-American, so how is he a traitor.

Military officers and Academy grads are supposed to be of high character and morality

“Supposed to” I thought so as well, but boy was I wrong....

He does not value the military nor does he respect it.

I beg to differ, the last President dismantled it, Trump has been rebuilding it.

*I feel sorry for the grads who had to listen to all this crap. *

But many, many don’t

As a military veteran I find this to be absolutely revolting and disgusting!

Some people might feel like that as well. I know a lot of vets that enjoy his speeches.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

'“We are ending the era of endless wars,” he said. “It is not the duty of U.S. troops to solve ancient conflicts in faraway lands that many people have never heard of.” He said America is not the “policeman of the world,” but warned adversaries that the U.S. will “never, ever hesitate” to act when its people are threatened.

Lies!

He also thanked those in the military who have helped the country respond to the coronavirus, what he once again called an "invisible enemy” that came from China.'“

More racist lies.

from every race, religion, color and creed.”

Except Islam.

And that 'Space Force' is just a paper entity. It's an Orwellian JOKE.

When the police are unable to respond to emergency calls, time for the 2nd Amendment.

Trump claim he employed more Blacks than Lincoln under slavery, where slavery employed Blacks at 100 percent

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Yubaru - This coming from the man who called out Lincoln's freeing of the slaves as "questionable" in regards to Lincoln's legacy,

If you read Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, you would realize that Lincoln did not free any of the slaves in the four slave states that remained with the Union. Only slaves in the former states currently engaged in rebellion against the Union would be then, thenceforward, and forever free, after the Union Army regain the lost territories. Slavery ended when the U.S. Congress passed the 13th Amendment.

(Not to mention the Northern States abolished slavery before Britain.)

That is like saying my left hand shall never harm you but my right hand shall fly of its own accord. Banned in only half the country? That's no laurel to rest on. I believe you are referring to the compromise of 1820. If so bear in mind it was repealed in 1854. Slavery was not solidly banned in America (including northern states) until the 13th Amendment was adopted and that was after the American Civil War.

I am getting tired of people referring to slavery in a America as a South only thing. George Washington was clearly a northerner and had a heap of slaves. The U.S. was a slave nation for over 70 years. The Confederacy only about 4.

Its bad enough this narrow minded attempt to heap slavery on the Confederacy. Worse is the fact that this bickering about ancient history, removal of TV shows and statues, and crackdowns on Twitter comments is not going to do anything to stop police murdering more citizens tomorrow.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Society needs a massive infusion of love.

Sounds great! Could you please tell that to the mob illegally occupying downtown Seattle? Thanks.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

The world is talking about racism, yet there is still no evidence the murder that sparked all this was race related.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Trump refused to rent to Blacks or employ them in his casinos.

Not true, I saw blacks in Atlanta and Vegas many, many times in both his casinos and his hotels, where are you guys getting this garbage? Lol

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

A telling moment arose during a 1993 Congressional committee hearing on gambling casino operated by Indian tribes. Trump, who considered the tribes competitors, offered a flourish of insensitivity during his testimony when he said, “They don’t look like Indians to me and they don’t look like Indians to Indians.”

Ok and?

Last year Trump defended himself against complaints about his attitudes by claiming that he’s the “least racist person on earth.”

Which is a stupid assertion to begin with.

Except for Patton, the Trump team has not presented to the press the name of a single key executive who is either Hispanic or African American.

They have to? On who’s order?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

I haven't seen the Democrats this angry since we took away their slaves.

You must have missed this

Leave it to the tweeter-in-chief to find a way to put soldiers in harm's way before they even deploy

Yeah, Trump, against the wishes of the fired Mattis, got our troops in Syria out of the line of fire near the Turkish border.

Nah, they're part of our history, good and bad. Better to vote them out.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Lincoln wasn’t an abolitionist.

Lincoln didn’t believe black people should have the same rights as white people.

Lincoln thought colonization could resolve the issue of slavery.

Emancipation was a military policy.

The Emancipation Proclamation didn’t actually free all enslaved people.

Lies!

So we should go to war on the behalf of the Washington swamp rat war machine we know as the Pentagon or aka, the so called smart generals?

More racist lies.

So the virus came from Pakistan? No, Maldives? Maybe it just came from Russia...

Except Islam.

No, because Indonesia was never on the ban list, the largest Muslim nation wasn’t banned from the States and wasn’t on the list, now that’s a debunked left farce.

*And that 'Space Force' is just a paper entity. It's an Orwellian JOKE.*

Why, we shouldn’t go back into space even though Obama defunded it?

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Which have absolutely nothing to do with his commencement speech. But if you want to talk about rip-off, look at these Universities that charge outlandish tuitions. There’s your ripoff.

What what he said does suggest is Trump's 'elite' handlers have come to the realization that he's alienated such a huge number of Americans

The Democrats even more with their Anarchist radicalism.

that if he doesn't try 'pandering' to more he'll lose the election and they'll risk losing some of the many benefits they've got thanks to him.

Well, Biden is you know what because the radical socialists and anarchists want him to defund the police, expand the welfare state, increase entitlements, he’s not going to do that, so he is royally red meat to use a better term.

Not a hero.

To millions he is.

His arrogance and narcissism (wonder why Trump mentioned him) resulted in a botched handling of the Korean War resulting in the needless deaths of thousands of allied troops. On top of botching operations in the Philippines

That’s one side of looking at it, you can extrapolate any historical nuance fact that you’re displeased with and focus on the negative side of it, most people will look at the overwhelming positive side of his actions, but if you want to dissect him, then we can also dissect Martin Luther king, or Winston Churchill, or Gandhi....
