The US President has the power of influence and the power to veto or sign a bill into law. Just as the passing or failing of Obamacare reflects back on Obama,

Very true, but ultimately Obama still owns it, his idea, his creation and the Democrats implementation of the ACA.

And here's another example too: an Obama failure is Guantanamo Bay prison - closing Guantanamo was one of his agenda. It doesn't matter that it's Congress that has the power to close Guantanamo prison - Obama made it his mission, so it counts as his failure that he couldn't do it thru Congress during his admin. Just as Trump made the repeal & replace of Obamacare as one of his agenda, it doesn't matter that it has to go thru Congress - he made it a mission of his, so the failure so far is his too (not all of it, but it's definitely a notch under the list of failures of Trump presidency). And vice versa, if it eventually succeeds, the success is his too.

Just too pathetic for words.. I assume now we'll see another manufactured controversy from Trump in the coming days to create some distraction from this epic failure, maybe this time it'll be Obama personally assassinated his dad or something. The entertainment never ends

The US President has the power of influence and the power to veto or sign a bill into law. Just as the passing or failing of Obamacare reflects back on Obama,

Very true, but ultimately Obama still owns it, his idea, his creation and the Democrats implementation of the ACA. That part doesn't go away, the GOP get hit with not repealing the law and so things continue, the thing is, the American people should come first and not ideology, if that takes front and center stage, Neither party wins and the American people are the ones that suffer the most.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Actually, it was congress, Trump doesn't enact laws, that's the job of the congress, they failed.

The US President has the power of influence and the power to veto or sign a bill into law. Just as the passing or failing of Obamacare reflects back on Obama, as the passing or failing of Trumpcare reflects back on Trump. All Presidents have their own agenda, and they have to shepherd their agenda thru Congress if they ever want their priorities realized. That's why, for example, Presidents also propose their own US federal budgets, even though it's the Congress that passes the federal budgets - because they want to set the agenda to their own priorities.

Media should hound Ryan and McConnell. Two of the most corrupt politicians that are bought over by the insurance industry.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Sanders will introduce a single payer plan:

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/03/sanders-to-introduce-single-payer-health-care-plan-236516

We'll see where that takes us. The GOP has two options right now: Start to work with Democrats to overcome the Freedom Caucus crazies or continue to stab each other in the back for simply trying to reach out across the isle.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

You having to admit Trump failed, or look even sillier denying it.

Actually, it was congress, Trump doesn't enact laws, that's the job of the congress, they failed.

I am shaking my head, at your country for allowing Trump into the WH, and shaking it more for the fools who still support him and now claim this was what he intended. Tsk tsk.

I'm shaking my head that foreigners worry to much and give to much input about our politics, yes, Russia included.

Hang on, but you're STILL blaming Obama for everything under the sun!

You guys blamed Bush, didn't stop you and remember Obama was the one that pushed for this junk.

Yes, and the party of "no" tried to stop Obama every step of the way, with you guys calling him "anointed one" and other garbage, and STILL NOW blaming him for everything, and made the ACA far less, and far less affordable,

BS. The Dems didn't have to overhaul the entire medical system, fix it, modify it for the people that didn't have insurance. That's all they needed to do, but greed is something that both parties can't seem to shake.

than it could have been of your own volition, and to save money for yourselves. Don't blame him or the Dems for that, then say this is not Trump's fault but AGAIN is the previous government's fault. Wow... you take hypocrisy to a new level!

No, because the truth is, Trump didn't succeed in getting the GOP to do something they should have started 7 years ago. That's not hypocrisy, that's reality.

Trump, after stinging defeat, promises a 'great' health plan

That is the topic of this thread. The topic of this thread is not how best to insult, harass, or bully other posters. I'm sure there are other internet websites where taking cheap shots at other posters, and bullying, is welcome.

Let see if I understand this situation. The Democrats refused to participate in the process. The Republicans argued amongst themselves in order to create a compromise bill that would pass. Good government is based on the ability of elected representatives to reach a workable compromise.

The voters have recently chosen to repeatedly reduce the number of elected Democrats. The voters have also chosen to increase the number of elected Republicans. It looks to me as if the voters job isn't finished.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

FDT report card: promises A+. Delivery F-.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Stinging defeat? The Republicans in Congress look like clowns and maybe feel a sting but not trump. Trump hold all the cards. He killed obamacare already by executive order and not enforcing it. Trump then tossed a rope out to the GOP giving them a choice of saving themselves or hanging themselves. The Republicans hung themselves. In fact trump, by forcing the vote, ensured Congress doesn't take 6 months to figure out how to screw everyone

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Yeah... You don't really have that excuse especially as they're all repubs.

No excuse, they're both useless, it's just Reid was, if I dare say, one of the worst politicians ever in US history.

You're right because I didn't notice it.

It's strange, liberals, I'm guessing are only tuned into anything that appeals or acceptable to the liberal mind which equates to......I'm still figuring that one out, but I'm sure it'll come to me, eventually....

Your fellow right winger used your line and I saw that.I can't read every Trump lover's defense of the joker because it's the boring same ol',same ol' weak spoutings.

And yet, you responded, so much for that analogy.

He will implode and explode before Obamacare does and I look forward to the day when I have to read less one-eyed drivel by his "supporters."

Yeah, I feel the opposite the left loons.

Look, in all seriousness, both parties are useless, they Dems failed with implementing this garbage and the GOP failed for doing, God knows what, but No results. Both are responsible, both are equally useless and no wonder congress has a 14% approval rating.

bass4funk: "I don't know what you're smiling about"

You having to admit Trump failed, or look even sillier denying it.

"i wouldn't be smiling, I would be shaking my head."

I am shaking my head, at your country for allowing Trump into the WH, and shaking it more for the fools who still support him and now claim this was what he intended. Tsk tsk.

"in case you forgot, we have 3 branches of government, the president doesn't legislate laws,"

Hang on, but you're STILL blaming Obama for everything under the sun!

"if the Dems would have tried to make a decent affordable healthcare

Ahem... 'in case you forgot, we have 3 branches of government...'

Yes, and the party of "no" tried to stop Obama every step of the way, with you guys calling him "anointed one" and other garbage, and STILL NOW blaming him for everything, and made the ACA far less, and far less affordable, than it could have been of your own volition, and to save money for yourselves. Don't blame him or the Dems for that, then say this is not Trump's fault but AGAIN is the previous government's fault. Wow... you take hypocrisy to a new level!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I don't. Trump did what he could, but remember, in case you forgot, we have 3 branches of government, the president doesn't legislate laws

Yeah... You don't really have that excuse especially as they're all repubs.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Funny how that was never excusable in Obama's presidency.

Obama said a lot of Crazy things and most of turmoil was caused by the Democrats and in particular that wretched Harry Reid. Thank God we don't have to deal with that guy anymore.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

if the Dems would have tried to make a decent affordable healthcare

They *did try. It was your people who blocked the single-payer option. You know, the one that would have made it affordable.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I don't. Trump did what he could, but remember, in case you forgot, we have 3 branches of government, the president doesn't legislate laws, if you want to blame someone, blame the GOP, blame congress, thatsthe branch of government mucked this up for the last 8 years

Funny how that was never excusable in Obama's presidency.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Not the 20 million or more, many of them in the GOP who were against the repeal, who will not be kicked out of a health plan for it. :)

Listen, neither side as witnessed could care less, I don't know what you're smiling about, the Repubs did a bad job, but equally, if the Dems would have tried to make a decent affordable healthcare instead of just pushing junk in order to reap more taxes wasn't the way to go either. So when it comes to ACA who got screwed? The American people twice by both parties.i wouldn't be smiling, I would be shaking my head.

Trump failed, badly, bud. Accept it.

I don't. Trump did what he could, but remember, in case you forgot, we have 3 branches of government, the president doesn't legislate laws, if you want to blame someone, blame the GOP, blame congress, thatsthe branch of government mucked this up for the last 8 years.

Might help you in the near future when he fails yet again.

He's human like the rest of us, so I'm sure it will happen again.

And the next time they tackle health care reform, at least have some more women involved when discussing women's health care, not just old white men

Trumpcare was for the rich,by the rich

Any plan that involves private insurance companies is for the rich, which the ACA does. Of course you'll never realize this as long as you keep mindlessly following the MSM and propogating the Dem / Rep divide. You obviously didn't grasp the intent of my post above, and since almost all of the Dems and Reps in congress are rich, your comment makes very little sense. Are you trolling?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Trump failed, badly, bud. Accept it. Might help you in the near future when he fails yet again.

Yup. He's failing badly alright. Basically... People are coming to the realization that if it barks like a dog it might actually be a Trump policy.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

lostrune2: "Feel sorry for the people who believed that and were so let down"

Actually, they're so utterly dumb that they don't feel let down -- in fact some, even posters on here, have claimed it is a Trump victory and this is exactly what he wanted. The level of denial is something never before seen.

bass4funk: "My fellow Americans are screwed when in comes to healthcare."

Not the 20 million or more, many of them in the GOP who were against the repeal, who will not be kicked out of a health plan for it. :)

Trump failed, badly, bud. Accept it. Might help you in the near future when he fails yet again.

Collapse ? Explode ? Implode? Is chump just testing out some new words he's recently learnt?

I wish the Democrats would have learned those words 8 years ago. They always claim they are so smart....for some odd reason, I have yet to figure out.

Oh and how's that amazing plan going, you know, large one that would defeat ISIS in 31 days ?

At least he's not piling up on the DNA and using real special forces and gathering real intelligence.

BINGO!!

It might be possible except that the corporate MSM who also make billions off of medical care advertising, will continue to propagate the "stinging" Dem / Rep divide. Plus they all sit in on the same corporate boards.

The thing is, since both parties get free healthcare why would they rush or try to come up with a good adequate healthcare plan? Congress never gets it right and even if congress flips either which way, they'll never get it right. If Congress were forced to take the same healthcare or Obamacare and use it for the next 4 years, they would work to get her feverishly with bipartisan support to find the IDEAL healthcare for the American people.

My fellow Americans are screwed when in comes to healthcare.

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

SerranoMAR. 26, 2017 - 12:04PM JST Just a quick question to those who voted for Obama - do you remember this? If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep your healthcare plan.

Yes, I do. And it was an over-promise that Obama was mistaken to make.

The thing you need to keep in mind though is that human beings who aren't replicants don't generally form emotional attachment to abstract things like insurance policies. Usually we meat folk just want our healthcare to be as inexpensive as possible while providing the best possible healthcare coverage. So while some few people might legitimately be angry about their health care plan changing because it changes either of those variables, most people are pretty happy with how the Affordable Care Act turned out.

The vast majority of people who are just angry about Obama's over-promise are not health care consumers angry that their new policy under the ACA isn't as good as what they had before, they're just people generally angry about the US's first black president and trying to invent reasons to say he was a bad person and to feel like they've scored points against him on some Internet battlefield. The ACA is far from perfect, but you can pretty easily tell the people who legitimately care about making things better from the partisans in the peanut gallery who just want to waste everyone's time with BS because the former group actually proposes improvements, while the latter group just harps on one single over-promise over and over again.

I mean, assuming you're not a replicant. If you are no disrespect, I'm down with the clickwise. 01010111 01100001 01110100 01100011 01101000 00100000 01101111 01110101 01110100 00100000 01100110 01101111 01110010 00100000 01000100 01100101 01100011 01101011 01100001 01110010 01100100

And this is why neither party will support a repeal, or a much cheaper and easier to run single-payer system,

sangetsu, perhaps you do not remember the 13 months starting eight years ago during which the ACA was negotiated. Many Dems fervently wanted a single-payer system, but Repubs vehemently resisted. Obama, displaying a trait that would haunt him repeatedly, tried to find a middle road - and got zero GOP votes as a result of his compromise (remember that when you hear Trump whinging about lack of Dem support after the 20 days spent on his healthcare plan with Dems frozen out of negotiations - the final version of the bill wasn't even available until midnight before the vote).

The ACA will evolve into a single-payer system the next time Dems control a sufficient amount of government leverage. It will likely start by making Medicare a buy-in option for everyone; that way, those who prefer private insurance will not be affected. The groundwork could begin after the Dems retake congress late next year. Really, though: How many Repubs would support this? Please do not dump both parties in the same basket.

Watch disinterest and boredom set in with growing setbacks and scandals - when a bully boy is not getting what he wants.

The whole problem is Trump.

At least one person had a partial grasp of reality.

His vice president, Mike Pence, said Friday’s events were “a victory for the status quo in Washington,” though “that victory won’t last very long.”

How long until he becomes the one they all have to deal with?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

This democrat wants to ask, Why are these guys trying to do this themselves, instead of using experts to write the health plan? I really don't mind that they haven't got it right yet. If they need another four months, so be it. But...in reality they've had years to work on it. And it would work a lot better if we trimmed the military budget. What the reality tells me, is that it's n issue of staffing. The pressure is to move on to other issues. Well, with enough staff, they could work on more than one thing at a time. I think my biggest gripe is that I want creative people in office. You do have to think outside the box. You'd think that the government could create it's own insurance program. And offer the kind of tax incentives to drug manufacturers to keep drug prices down. Priorities. We'll talk about billionaires another time.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

And this is why neither party will support a repeal, or a much cheaper and easier to run single-payer system, because in the former, the current billions would be cut off (and the favors and kickbacks which could be bought with those billions), and creating a single, state-run system would have the same effect; the AMA, insurance companies, and hospital lobbies would no longer have anything to lobby, or any reason to donate to political campaigns.

BINGO!!

It might be possible except that the corporate MSM who also make billions off of medical care advertising, will continue to propagate the "stinging" Dem / Rep divide. Plus they all sit in on the same corporate boards.

My fellow Americans are screwed when in comes to healthcare.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Sorry, but the republican and democrat congress and senate want to keep Obamacare. Not because it helps uninsured people get medical insurance (neither party cares jack-$hit about the uninsured), but because because Obamacare is a pork-fest which has given congress carte blanche to spend countless billions of dollars.

If Trump wants to get rid of Obamacare, he is going to have to find a way to do it on his own, and he will have to replace it with something, hopefully a single-payer system.

It would also help if he can get term limits on the congress and senate, and break up the permanent ruling class which benefits from the current system.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

That is very true, Himajin. Probably the greatest weakness of the ACA is that it doesn't take care of those in the $50,000 - $80,0000 income ranges sufficiently. That could be very easily fixed, and Dems are eager to do so.

There is definitely lots of room for improvement in Obamacare. The Rebublican 'plan' however didn't do that, and made things even worse.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

what I dont get is that repealing Obamacare has been "the" poster cause for the republicans for the last 7 years.... despite this they couldn't even convince enough of their own people to vote for it...it went down not because of the democrats but because republicans themselves opposed it... and now you have people saying "well, it doesn't matter, we'll get it right next time"..... you had SEVEN YEARS people to get it right first time and show you mean business... LOL....

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Less happy are families in the middle class with doubled monthly premiums and $6,000-$12,000 deductibles.

That is very true, Himajin. Probably the greatest weakness of the ACA is that it doesn't take care of those in the $50,000 - $80,0000 income ranges sufficiently. That could be very easily fixed, and Dems are eager to do so.

There are several other areas that could also be tweaked to make the system work much better. Two points, though: Middle class families would have been catastrophically worse off under the GOP's plan; and the GOP refuses to work in good faith - that is, they do not want to make the ACA better, they simply want to be rid of it, whatever the consequences.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

He told Trump "Keep a s**t list of republicans who opposed you."

This is good news!

The more infighting among them, the less crackpot laws they'll be able to implement.

And if things go really well, the moderates will break from the extremists, and actually put together a conservative party worth voting for.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Just a quick question to those who voted for Obama - do you remember this?

If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep your healthcare plan.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that it worked out that way. Obama should never have made that claim in the first place, as it wasn't likely something that could be assured.

So now that we've got that out of the way, what is your point?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Yes, well, Trump promised to end ISIS immediately -- definitely and 100%, promised a wall that Mexico would pay for, promised to decrease the value of drugs and healthcare for all, while improving it exponentially THE DAY AFTER taking office, etc. What has he delivered? Nothing. Instead he is now bombing women and children in the ME behind foreign nations' lines and increasing the threat of war breaking out across the globe, he said "I meant Mexico will pay us back" on an impossibility, he met with drug companies to talk about tax breaks for them (and most REpubs wouldn't agree to the healthcare repeal because it did not give them a tax cut big enough!), he dropped a bombshell to replace ACA and of course it failed, and has failed to live up to any of his other promises, including to abide by the Constitution in relation to his business. He's certainly made the US more racist, and more of a dictatorship, and needless to say the biggest laughing stock in the world.

A Trump promise makes snake-oil salesmen seem like gods because, at least you get the snake oil.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

It certainly will if vindictive Donald has his way. The ACA is reportedly doing alright, though it could certainly use some tweaking

People like Obamacare

Obamacare is ' doing alright' and people 'like it' if the people you're talking about are those who had no insurance before but now do for $70 a month , then yes, I'm sure they're happy with it, and rightly so. Less happy are families in the middle class with doubled monthly premiums and $6,000-$12,000 deductibles. For many now, it's nothing but catastrophic care, not ' health insurance' . I'm hoping that something that's better for more people is formulated.

"Remember how much the Republicans freaked out about Obama playing golf?"

Yes, but Obama was using prestigious golf courses that should be reserved for US citizens.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Is Trump tired of winning yet?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I like how a Republican president with a Republican majority blames the Democrats for the inability to pass his useless sorry, great/terriffic, legislation.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

we will all get together and piece together a great healthcare plan for THE PEOPLE.

Put a sock in it. If you can do it, then do it. Don't throw this bravado at me and think it will get me excited.

Eventually, he said, both parties will come together and “we will end the Obamacare nightmare.”

You don't get it. People like Obamacare. If you're going to replace it, it will have to be with something equal or better than that. People are listening when the media talks about the number of uninsured going up and higher premiums for the elderly. So make a plan that doesn't do that because America isn't going to let you talk you way out of this with some BS on principals.

"concluding that “failing and then walking away on seven years of promises is a pathetic abdication of duty. The Republican Party is a party without a purpose.”

Yep. And there was no reason for them to not at least attempt to get something on paper during that time. It makes no sense at all that they just did nothing after all of the things they've been saying. The clock just ran out on them.

Oh, and Donald, let me introduce you to the Freedom Caucus. They're....special. They actually got themselves elected on a platform of "no compromise." Think about that. They said no to you, then actually upped the ante anyway by throwing in the elimination of the preexisting conditions clause. And no subsidies.

Their goal isn't to replace Obamacare, their goal is to purge every single Obamacare law from the books. You have two completely different goals and they were elected to not bend. And yes, they're willing to burn the whole thing down if it means defending their version of America.

Don't want to rain on your Down with Trump Parade Crazy, but if everything the Trumpster tries to get done, gets constantly voted down, then don't expect a lot to get done in the next four years.

Considering the things he wants to do, better than not a lot gets done, than the alternative.

So thanks for giving us hope.

LagunaMAR. 26, 2017 - 09:22AM JST It certainly will if vindictive Donald has his way. The ACA is reportedly doing alright, though it could certainly use some tweaking. Trump instead will now do everything in his power to make his prediction come true.

So we will have to count on the news to provide nuanced, meaningful coverage of Trump policy decisions that impact the ACA. We need policy analysis. Uh-oh.

StrangerlandMAR. 26, 2017 - 09:29AM JST He already promised a terrific health plan while on campaign. Now he's promising a great health plan. If he's got something great to follow up this failure with, then why didn't he start with that?

This hilarious thing is how Trump dealt with his central campaign promise being shot down by his own majority in Congress before it even had a vote- Did he sit down with healthcare experts to analyze how Trumpcare failed? No. Did he sit down with Congress and hammer out a compromise? Of course not. How did Mr. Art of the Deal handle being revealed as a powerless joke by his own party? By taking his 12th golfing trip in his 9 week Presidency.

Sorry to have to say that.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

He already promised a terrific health plan while on campaign. Now he's promising a great health plan. If he's got something great to follow up this failure with, then why didn't he start with that?

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. The Trumpeters where fooled by his blustering rhetoric, and elected him. That's on him. But any of them foolish enough to believe he's actually going to come up with a follow up to this failure that is better than what just failed are showing themselves to be fools. The second time it's on them.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

He said that “bad things are going to happen to Obamacare. It’s imploding and soon will explode and it’s not going to be pretty.”

It certainly will if vindictive Donald has his way. The ACA is reportedly doing alright, though it could certainly use some tweaking. Trump instead will now do everything in his power to make his prediction come true.

He will do so because he loves himself far more than his fellow man and because he is shallow, spiteful, and malicious with a long memory for wrongs. His gambit is that the ACA's collapse will be blamed on its architects in the Democratic party. Not only is playing with tens of millions of lives in such a cruel fashion truly sadistic, it also probably won't work - at least, not for the 80% of Americans who haven't drunk the Trump Kool Aid.

I used to think Trump was borderline psychotic, but me feelings are changing - perhaps it is time to lose the qualifier.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

lostrune2,

Thats the shame, so many people believed the rhetoric, but failed to ask the questions, "when you say great, what does that mean and how are you going to do it".

Im still surprised that the vague, shouty, substance lacking speeches managed to win so many people over ,often to their own detriment.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Now that is what is known as a steep political learning curve, or a brick wall, so mind the step Mr President.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Trump is just being hit by this thing called reality check.

"That begins with immediately repealing and replacing the disaster known as Obamacare… You're going to have such great health care, at a tiny fraction of the cost—and it's going to be so easy."

Feel sorry for the people who believed that and were so let down

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Great president who demonstrated respect and dignity and did the best you could considering the sorry circumstances. And you did good... Enjoy your Obamacare everyone. Hope we get single payer but until then, can't get rid of Obamacare. Like literally can't be done. It seems to me the real story here is that perhaps folks are beginning to realize that Trump is exactly what his critics have always claimed: a puffed-up, lying, incurious, imbecile who got the job through a combination of luck, racism, and Russian meddling.
