Putin's probably laughing.

Which countries pay the majority of bills for the UN? USA and Japan. Which country pays the majority of the bills for NATO? USA. Instead of asking why the USA and Japan spend so much on defense for the world, Trump is asking what the silent USA majority wants to know. Japan needs to say how much of the total USA/Japan defense expense it pays. Right now USA taxpayers think it is 100% USA. It is the same opinion for SK. 100%. $20 trillion is a big debt, especially when children in Flint, Michigan, can't have clean water and every student in the USA can't have a laptop. Trump may not be able to eloquently ask the questions, but it is the reason he has tremendous support.

Burning Bush - Sometimes success is demonstrated by eliminating the need for drastic, eye-catching action. Certainly the way I prefer my military alliances: boring.

BINGO!

You hit the nail right in the head.

"Donald Trump on Saturday again accused U.S. allies of not pulling their weight in the NATO military alliance" - article

You could run a whole political campaign on what Trump doesn't know, wait a tick!

That is what Trump is doing.

This fraud hasn't any idea more about NATO than he did about his twenty-five billion dollar wall the Mexican People were supposed to build.

If this idiot is the GOP/Tea's choice that tells one thing. The GOP/Tea actually intends on the destruction of Government globally. Trump the Destroyer (what a filthy, filthy little clown)

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

“Either they pay up, including for past deficiencies, or they have to get out. And if it breaks up NATO, it breaks up NATO,” Trump said.

Another subject Donald J. Trump has no idea about.

It sounds as reckless and abrasive as his attitudes racism and beating women, which Trump praised his campaign manger for out of loyalty.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Which country has been paying more money to NATO but been unincluded to join its decision procedure?

btw Trump has one more grandsoo.

Japan should get out from NATO.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

It sounds as reckless and abrasive as his attitudes racism and beating women, which Trump praised his campaign manger for out of loyalty.

How does it sound abrasive when asking a pertinent question? And what's the correlation between alleged racism and beating women?? I'm just trying to understand as to how that relates to the NATO question?

“I’ve said before that people pay attention to American elections. What we do is really important to the rest of the world,” Obama said.

Now the Tyrant is concerned all of a sudden? The guy is a joke! During his reign this nut didn't care what anyone thought and now that Trump is asking a legitimate question, the anointed one is deeply worried? LOL Amazing. November can't come soon enough.

-12 ( +4 / -16 )

"I'm just trying to understand as to how that relates to the NATO question?" - comments

How would Donald J. Trump know about NATO, America's allies or their agreements since Trump hasn't spent one day in any briefing or planning meeting?

Who is Trump to know anything about much except he praises those who beat women and torture, which Trump just Loves!

Talk about a loser.

This loser thinks because Trump says something it's somehow valid.

It shows Trump's demand for women to be punished for having an abortion is just as valid.

Trump's racism and mysogny is as valid a point of contrast to this, just another destructive proposal based on nothing except Trump wants to make out the world hates America.

Trump's goal: To Make America Hate Again, terrible slogan by the way.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Obama DOES ONLY care about his personal legacy. That's a complete and separate issue. As far as what the people think, the Pentagon or about foreign policy, the man couldn't care less, but he does care about doing the Tango in Argentina and he does care about what the Hollywood idiots think. He most definitely cares about that and good on Trump for asking the question that Obama or liberals would never think of asking. Do I think NATO should go away, NO, but if you ask me that other European countries need to pony up, definitely.

-12 ( +5 / -17 )

Trump is obviously not fit to be POTUS and a great many Republicans feel that way as well. So please stop using Trump as a way of bashing Republicans.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Either they pay up, including for past deficiencies, or they have to get out. And if it breaks up NATO, it breaks up NATO.

This comment evidences a reason for Trump's multiple marriages: don't get what you want when you want it and you coldly throw out the baby with the bathwater. (Today's my 23rd wedding anniversary, BTW.)

Trump is as usual displaying his astounding ignorance of world affairs. NATO is a treaty organization, not a wholey-owned subsidiary of USA, Inc.. If America is unhappy with the performance of members, it may castigate and cajole, but it may not dictate. Trump's quote above is so divorced from reality as to be nonsensical. Pay up - to whom? Past deficiencies? - There are no rules here. For sure, Obama has over the past couple of years tried to persuade NATO members to increase spending, as the link below shows, but does Trump think he can get Europe to shun Luxembourg if they don't pony up? And what would be the point?

The result would be a continued united Europe but the the US excluded. Anyone who can find a scintilla of logic in Trump's lunatic musings is as unmoored from reality as he.

Trump's goal: Make America Hate Again, terrible slogan by the way

Worthy of repetition, Trump hasn't any idea what he is talking about.

Trump thinks everything he says is some tease on the way to commercial break.

Insulting America's allies as dead-beats?

It is Trump who is on trial as a President.

Trump fails at this test repeatedly.

Whether insulting women, Mexicans, Muslims or America's Allies, Trump is the perfect ugly American

Ignorant to a fault and completely uninterested in who he harms or at what cost, Like the perpetual trust-fund brat Trump is, Trump's forever the abrasive idiot. His ignorance on NATO is no surprise.

And, somehow, his racists and bigots just keep in lock step following and hoping for the big riot Trump promised them at Christmas. Father Trump's Christmas gift, riots at the GOP/Tea Convention.

"there is NO doubt in my mind that Trump loves his country and will do whatever it takes to make sure the people come first." - comments

Hardly an endorsement coming from Trump. When did Trump have any connection with anything that was about putting the people first?

2 ( +5 / -3 )

As was almost said about another windbag, if you could give Trump an enema, he could sleep in a matchbox.

Just more wall-building, Muslim-banning posturing to rattle the monkey cage with little or no substance and how it works.

He's starting to bore. It isn't funny now and it's getting repetitive.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Trump doesn't think, that's why he sounds so dumb.

Trump reads a script and delivers to his idiots as swine before pearls.

As easily as Trump scripted his racist 'birther campaign' for five long years, what difference is there from that to this?

Given an opportunity to revise his script, Trump baffoones on with the old one, 'NATO, sissies, all of them'

2 ( +5 / -3 )

The US has the largest military expenditure in the world! An industry based on the ability to deal death and destroy property!

What's wrong with Trump calling for a reduction in this massive killing machine which takes 30%of US tax payer money?

Trump for President!!!

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

"What's wrong with Trump calling for a reduction in this massive killing machine " - comments

There's nothing wrong, except Trump isn't calling for a reduction of the military.

In fact, Trump's claim is to Make America Go To War Again.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Isn't America already at war, all over the world?

Who is to say it would be worse under Trump?

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

Trump is much more qualified than a lot of past Presidents. If an actor can be a US leader than Trump certainly can!

Trump for President!

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

OssanAmerica: Trump is obviously not fit to be POTUS and a great many Republicans feel that way as well. So please stop using Trump as a way of bashing Republicans.

It's your party that is putting him in position. Your voters. At this point it's looking like the GOP establishment and their voters are actually the minority of the party. Maybe they don't represent the real GOP, but Trump does?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

“Either they pay up, including for past deficiencies, or they have to get out. And if it breaks up NATO, it breaks up NATO,”

Trump seems to be reflecting the same attitude the world's seen from the US since Vietnam, America's rubicon, and that is 'we (the hawks in the military and State Department urged on by the defense industries) don't like something in that place, so we'll blow it up.' One of the many problems with this approach has been the US has not been able to come up with a what to do next plan after blowing whichever country up. What were the US's plans for Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. after blowing them to bits?

What are Trump's plans for a post-NATO world, beyond I'll hire good people to sort my mess out? Blowing up countries and relationships is not the same as bankrupting a casino and walking away.

Obama was given the Nobel Peace Prize as a sideswipe to the headbanging warmongers who preceded him. It was also a collective sigh of relief.

I don't think he deserved it. The President of the United States should be an intelligent and thoughtful individual. Getting an award for not being a cross-eyed, lying, boneheaded, bloodythirsty yokel isn't good grounds.

These Republicans set the bar low. Trump is taking it to unimaginable depths.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Trump is right, thats what should be done, give and take, take it or leave it.

Ghonheim, you're aware, I assume, that "give and take" has precisely the opposite meaning of "take it or leave it." Obama has achieved considerable success in foreign policy precisely because he is able to listen to concerns of stakeholders without whom any initiative would be doomed to failure, evaluate their importance and how to incorporate them into a durable solution, and thus ensure that the solution becomes permanent. That is "give and take." Trump's proposals for most foreign policy challenges seem to be the equivalent of taking all your marbles home in a pique.

Obama received a Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing, other than being himself, it was the worst and most laughable thing the organization could have done, which delegitimatizes it entirely. If that's the case, anyone could get one.

These Republicans set the bar low. Trump is taking it to unimaginable depths.

That's what a lot of people love about Trump. The man doesn't care about being loved or being PC. The people that have been screwed by both parties for so many years by FREE trade, by illegal immigration, by high taxes by trying to push Europe to take a more proactive stance on taking care of themselves and contribute more to NATO for one thing and for people like Cruz that support FREE trade and Kasich that used to work in the Banking industry and is a liberal moderate, these men are all from the same mold as the entire Washington elite. The people see in Trump a person that they feel they can trust and that can lead them out of the abyss.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Obama received a Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing

He must have done something to make people happy. He could win a "third" term.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

@bass4 The people that have been screwed by both parties for so many years by FREE trade, by illegal immigration, by high taxes by trying to push Europe to take a more proactive stance on taking care of themselves and contribute more to NATO

The gist of the above, if I understand it correctly, is the US is a horrible place for you and your people. You've mentioned that you have had to live under a tyrannical administration. Must be tough.

The people

Do you mean the guys at your gun club?

see in Trump a person that they feel they can trust and that can lead them out of the abyss.

I hear you saying you've got faith he's the savior for you and your people. But you know the old trite expression, “Faith is the purposeful suspension of critical thinking.” To have that kind of faith to believe you can be led out of the abyss (sounds like a terrible place), you and your people must be privy to Trump's inside policy info, have some info I've not heard yet.

"Obama received a Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing, other than being himself, it was the worst and most laughable..."

Obama received a Nobel Peace Price for not being George W Bush - warmonger and utter failure.

Happy anniv Laguna...

Always nice to read your retorts to the insane on the US politics side.

I'm predicting Trump's campaign is downhill rapidly from here, watch him lose out to Cruz next week. The brokered convention at the Ayslum will be exquisite. As Super mentioned the other day, it's high time the media dump Trump to illustrate how insane Cruz actually is. I'm expecting either Cruz or Kasich to be the nominee, with Trump going rogue as a third party loser.

Either way, this thing of ugly beauty just gets more divine each passing moment....

He is unquestionably correct. All NATO countries are pledged to spend at least 2 percent of their gross domestic product per year on defense. The U.S. finances 75 percent of NATO expenditures at 3.6 percent of U.S. GDP. Only one other country, tiny Estonia, plans to meet the 2 percent commitment in 2015 as of now. The only ones defending the US shouldering a bunch of freeloaders are the monied interests, who fear that this national security gravy train may come of the rails.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Lizz,

Putin is clearly insane. Possibly driven by his latent homosexuality, possibly just because he's nuts. But he likes Trump. And Trump likes him, currently.

If you decide to poop on the NATO alliance, as Trump is doing - with zero foreign policy credentials I might add - how do you think the Russian dictator will take to this with his expansionist gains? Or China? What could such madness do against American interests?

Trump's comments are the height of stupidity. But that is the support he is gunning for with such inflammatory comments. The stupid vote. Pushing the buttons of idiots that demand a simple answer to complex problems and didn't incredibly learn their lesson from that idiot W Bush whom I'm sure you voted for, twice.....

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Obama received a Nobel Peace Price for not being George W Bush - warmonger and utter failure.

You must admit, it was quite funny even if it was undeserved.

It was funny, undeserved and shows that the organization is a complete joke and anyone could get one, even Kanye West should qualify since he's one of the greatest humans of all time.

I never said, Obama is THE savior, but after 7 years of progressive Tyrannical rule and the constant apology tour, the shrinkage of the Middle class, the stagnant wages, the racial division, the usual bank and Wall St. bedfellows and the constant capitulation and the unwillingness to call out radical Jihadism for what it is and add to that, you have a habitual liar that wants to keep the same policies intact that has been decimating the country and slowly eroding it, Trump is a helluva lot better, NOT perfect, that's for sure, but as I recall since 1988 Trump has been preaching how we have been getting hosed through Free trade and throughout the years how countries like China and Russia are will be the next greatest adversary for us and he's right on that and there is a reason why millions of people are turning to him. Trump at least has the guts and will and the deepest desire to at least attempt to undo some of this chaos the anointed one has wrought onto the country.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

The guy, whose unexplained absence from service in Vietnam, suddenly knows everything about NATO?

Trump must have learned a lot at military school where sent when he proved a disappointment to his father, who gave Trump two hundred million to get a leg up on megalomania. (digression, apology)

Trump's dupes follow on. 'We talk NATO, Trump no like, We no like, NATO. Proof!'

The GOP/Tea must just LOVE their new puppet master.

They can't control him and he has eleven million of one hundred thirty four million who agree with his racism and misogyny. What a mandate from the People. The bigoted people.

Now, Trump is a military mastermind.

Trump must have learned a lot about how to get out of military service, just like George W. Bush.

You can slap on a coat of gold leaf, but the GOP/Tea has welcomed prejudice into their 'bigot tent', and now cry helplessly as Trump manures their field of dreams with his holocaust deniers.

'Trump Make Great America Hate Again' what was it?

Thanks, Madverts! My two offspring, 19 and 21 now, will vote in their first presidential election this year. My first was '84, Reagan/Mondale - interesting how Mondale's positions are still very mainstream Democrat a la Sanders, while Reagan would likely be termed a RINO in today's GOP jungle. In retrospect, Reagan was bad not so much in what he did (which was not good but not disastrous) as in the way he governed (Nixon southern strategy gone Hollywood) and the mythical legacy he left. This year, my kids have a choice of two main political parties. Whether that will remain so the next time they vote is quite a question.

It would be facinating if their ideas might be distilled, briefly, of course.

Well, 'Trump no like Mexican . . .'

Trump's NATO nonsense is supported by this?

Now, it all makes sense.

Trump thumpers actually can't do math. Proof? Eleven Million isn't a majority of 134 million?

From the comment, it seems this agenda may be a bit different from the Founders.

$20 trillion is a big debt, especially when children in Flint, Michigan, can't have clean water and every student in the USA can't have a laptop. Trump may not be able to eloquently ask the questions, but it is the reason he has tremendous support.

But that's not what Trump is about. You're actually describing Bernie Sanders. He literally mentions the problems of Flint, and other cities across America, in an eloquent fashion too. He also says that the US should reduce its budget on defense, and let other countries starting being more responsible for their own issues. Bernie is the guy who should have tremendous support, but he doesn't unfortunately. The most absurd thing about this election is not Trump, but it's his and Hilary's voters.

Actually, when you take the emotion out of it, it really does.

Trump thumpers actually can't do math. Proof? Eleven Million isn't a majority of 134 million?

No, but Obama and the Democrats are even worse when it comes to math and by the way, do you know EVERY SINGLE Trump voter to make that kind of statement? No, you do not. They are people like every other person, there is no difference between them and Hillary or Sanders voters College Students love Bernie, Single women and minorities like Clinton and A LOT of blue-collared White workers go for Trump and the Evangelicals are going for Cruz. So there is a lot of diversity flowing between the candidates.

Great, NATO is pointless for that matter, the UN has proven itself irrelevant. NATO is tasked to protect Europe from invasion by foreign armies and the foreign army of violent islamic regimes have in fact invaded, committing crimes against women, murder and the EU let these insurgents in. So why should the USA spend 100s of billions cleaning up a mess the EU created for itself. Russia invaded a nation, has itself jumped in the middle east to better effect, China is occupying islands, while IRAN ayatollahs, an ISIS Caliph, the muslim brotherhood all increase their attacks everywhere. IRAN is about to obtain Nukes and NATO, UN, EU, USA, everyone has allowed a real open slave trade industry, mostly with female slaves to exist and flourish, no longer underground.

All this is happening while the UN/NATO/EU/USA western policies are impotent to prevent it or so something about it. The excuses for it are insane, since there is no excuse for the open slave trade of women nor allowing your countries to be overrun by invaders. NATO and the UN especially are totally useless, they are just two organizations used by some of the political class to obtain money and power over others, while doing nothing, worse, actually helping to foster invasion and slavery.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Yet there is the law of unintended consequences. When the US leaves NATO it will have to deal with Russia on its own. My guess is the poor eastern nations will come to some sort of accommodation with Moscow. President Putin will laugh with delight as the threat to the Motherland will be eliminated. Better yet he will be able to deal with Turkey any way he sees fit! The USA will lose all influence in Europe and there may actually be Russian bases in the former NATO countries. Oh very well done!

In the Far East Abe will need a new job and the new government of Japan will send delegations to China and Russia to work out their problems. Worse yet the new trade deal with America will force Japan to turn to China. South Korea will be in trouble! Japan will not help them, so they will have to turn to China. When the Americans are gone from Japan and Korea think the days of the little fat man will be short.

About the trade, does Donald Trump know about the World Trade Organization?

If he gets his stupid way the US will be isolated from the rest of the world. If you think the US economy is bad now just wait!

Get what I want a Okinawa free of American forces.

Trump continues to press his luck with the same old repertoire.

Say something insulting and uneducated.

Cheer your fans who commit assault.

Tell everyone 'they have it wrong!'

Repeat.

Now with NATO, but how it this really affecting Americans?

We take a number cruncher's viewpoint and learn how desperately unpopular Donald J. Trump, 'torture advocate,' is after the swill of his bigots is removed from the table and the microscope makes its appearance

"With white women, . . . Mr. Trump is nearly as unpopular: 23 percent view him favorably, while 54 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him."

"And that was before Mr. Trump attacked Senator Ted Cruz’s wife, ridiculed a female reporter against whom Mr. Trump’s campaign manager was charged with committing battery, and suggested that women who have abortions should face criminal punishment before reversing himself."

"Mr. Trump’s penchant to offend and his household-name celebrity are a potentially lethal combination, as most voters have both firm and deeply negative opinions of him."

"His incendiary comments about minorities and the disabled, and proposals to bar Muslims from entering the United States or to force Mexico to pay for a wall on the southern border, have resounded so widely that half of all voters said they would be scared if he were elected president, according to the Times/CBS poll."

“There is no precedent for this,” said Neil Newhouse, a veteran Republican pollster. “In the modern polling era, since around World War II, there hasn’t been a more unpopular potential presidential nominee than Donald Trump.”

source: JONATHAN MARTIN and NATE COHN - The New York Times - Saturday, April 2, 2016

Looking forward, Donald J. Trump can only deliver the same sour puss about everything America and then his bigots are supposed to carry him into the White House.

The only real question; is Trump still telling the thumpers to riot? Over NATO?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@Kc

Trump survived a lot before and this is nothing new again. So as the establishment tries and tries to bring down Trump, as long as his voters are energized and the more people wake up to the realization of his statements on the UN and Asia, I think his support will grow and expand, especially on the largest demographic that has been left behind and that is middle class and rural White Americans and now you are seeing more Blacks voters joining being and seeing themselves being more marginalized in this society, especially with the growing immigrant population.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

bass4funk, why do you defent a jerk? If you are conservative republican, I would not do defent Trump at all. He is actually destroying your party. Like Sen. L. Graham once said to media that having Trump and Cruz is being shot by bullet or killed by poisoning. It is a good analyis because two are not really representing your party's ideology. If Regan were here today, he would not be elected as US President bdcause he is a common sense Republican.

"Trump’s comments on NATO have also sent ripples through the Republican Party, which has traditionally promoted a muscular foreign policy." - article

Ripples? Trump has made the GOP/Tea an international laughing stock.

Just say a prayer none of his dim wits shoots someone.

“We’re talking about somebody (Trump, torture advocate) who has the passionate devotion of a minority and alternately scares, appalls, angers — or all of the above — a majority of the country,” said Henry Olsen, a conservative analyst. “This isn’t anything but a historic election defeat just waiting to happen.”

"Ripples? Trump has made the GOP/Tea an international laughing stock."

A bit unkind to Trump. Lunatics screaming scientific truths to be lies from the pit of hell, the founding fathers working tirelessly to end slavery, women being unable to get pregnant by rape and pretty much everything associated with Sarah Palin saw this comedy act gain an international audience. I remember seeing this nonsense on UK TV. My Japanese friend, a very fluent English speaker, asked me if the incomprehensible babble coming out of Palin's mouth made any sense to a native speaker. I reassured her that her English comprehension wasn't the problem.

Trump is louder and looks funnier but I don't think you can call him a trailblazer. These clowns have been entertaining a worldwide audience for quite a while. Trump is simply their latest and biggest comedy export yet.

I work hard to make a video channel to make a better world and all of you work hard to make a better Japan, and someone like the Trump comes along and tries to divide everyone and make us all fight among each other.
