Who knows how serious this is, who knows what all those in Trump's swamp might actually be doing to deal with it.
The reality that this is the most dishonest administration in US history makes it hard to believe a single word from anyone at any level.
If this does become a serious problem, because the Trump admin has seen public healthcare as a low priority (how's Trumpcare-better-than-Obamacare coming along), it's hard to have confidence they have the ability to face it adequately. Trump's military spending, his vanity projects like the Trump Wall and his golf games to one of his resorts are more important.

Here's a damning nugget from NYTimes:
So much is contained in that snippet —Trump's contempt for Pence; Trump's cluelessness about the gravity of this threat to global public health; Congressional indifference to Trump's malfeasance; the entire Republican universe's disdain for science.

After Don JR accused Dems of ‘wanting millions and millions to die’ so it would hurt his Daddy, Pence came out and defended the remarks. Saying junior’s message was ‘let’s put politics aside.’ Meanwhile, Daddy, as usual can’t stop patting himself on the back in between denouncing the Dems.

Denying the virus, blaming it on the democrats and then trying to trivialize it, that’s a great response from the Dumbest head of state in the world.
rainyday
So far the response seems to be to not put any emphasis at all on testing, or even getting ready for testing. Which makes no sense in terms of protecting public health, but lots of sense for a president who just wants to pretend this epidemic doesn’t exist or is a Dem hoax.

They are finally working on test kits in a serious way. But the lack of preparedness is appalling. Not shocking, just appalling.

Like what? What is it that liberals want Trump to do? Conjure up some miracle?
Sorry, that statement wasn’t honest. The media are the ones that have over-exaggerated and put and spreading fear amongst the masses.
Ask McCain.
Russia, China, Iran and North Korea would just love that, a US with no military, makes their job a whole lot easier.

tRump too busy tweeting, golfing, and watching TV.
What was that saying, "Fiddle while Rome........"

Which no one has ever said. But that 100% or 0%, all or nothing reasoning is consistent with partisan extremists unwilling to accept democracies where a range of possibilities are considered, instead prefer authoritarianism where big brother decides for everyone.
More blame the media, a typical response from partisan extremists pushing to further undermine US systems including its free, fo-profit press. Media, by the way, is plural, so it would include global alt right sources like RT/Fox and comrades/infowars/Rush Limbaugh etc etc etc, i.e. those media sources pushing for Trump and ilk. Especially those spreading fear knowing their readership includes those most easily frightened and manipulated.

I am not a fan of Trump but it is not often I make negative remarks about the President here. It was a truly ignorant and stupid move by Trump to announce that Pence is in charge of this response. Trump knows nothing about this and his the fact he is a megalomania and possibly has narcissistic personality disorder makes it difficult to believe Trump can deal with this rationally.
As Paul Harvey used to say...."and now for the rest of the story".....This, from the NY Times on Feb. 27;
It is interesting that Dr. Birx, a very competent physician originally appointed by President Obama was put in charge of the effort to address the virus.
It would be interesting to find out how this decision was made; did Pence actually realize he was not qualified for this? Or, did someone else fix this issue.

liberal media reporter: Why you muzzling the doctor?
Trump: I’m not.
reporter: continues attack muzzle muzzle
The actual doctor being talked about: I have not been plus am not being muzzled.?I’m right here speaking.
reporter: but but.....muzzle muzzle
you can tell when it’s politics when they are all using the same keywords.

Are you saying there are political aspects to the US political system?
bass4funk
He doesn’t, the msm is once again trying to perpetuate that myth.
Hey, it’s coming out of their mouths, not our faults, please talk to them.
The difference is, they’re not screaming like the liberals about this, they know he has his team of doctor and scientist experts working on this and they don’t go around saying idiotic partisan rhetoric about this serious issue or try to politicize it like the liberal msm.
What in the world are you talking about? ROFL!
Blacklabel
Coronavirus should not be used as a political attack by Dems and their media. Because these ridiculous attacks all becomes noise and then we will miss when something actually is wrong. Cause unnecessary panic too.
bass4funk
Exactly. The virus doesn’t discriminate,it just wants to survive and we are all in this together.
Blacklabel
The way the media is presenting this is thatTrump is watching Pence in a lab coat develop a vaccine while the 1 person still employed at the CDC is locked out of the lab.
simply got happening that way. CDC has staffing and money and world class scientists are working this. Policies are in place for travel and prior are being tested and treated. Same as every other country.
so it would be productive to give the TDS a momentary pause.

Actually, he didn’t fire him, it was Bolton that did. But he has a team, so we should let them do their job. Harping on them, won’t help the public, it definitely won’t help the Democrats.

Lots of old dead coronavirus Republican, will not help the Republican chances in 2020
Wolfpack
Dems doing their level best to blame the disease which started in China on Trump. Also drumming up panic and fear as an election strategy.

A few things:
The person in Washington state who died, sadly, had other serious health problems prior to contracting the coronavirus.
Some people are saying that Trump and Pence "don't know science" and are therefore somehow unqualified to handle this coronavirus issue. Why? Because they reject the idea that human activity is the prime cause of climate change?
Speaking of climate change, history and science tell us that there have been at least three major warming periods over the last 3,000 years. Obviously these warming periods were not caused by humans going around in cars and jets.
Climate change falls under the branch of science known as climatology. The coronavirus issue is of a different scientific discipline, namely immunology. Rejecting an idea related to climatology does not automatically make a person ignorant when it comes to something under the purview of immunology. It's illogical to think that it does.
People who are calling Trump "anti-science" because he rejects the idea of man-made climate change are typically members of the same ideological camp of people who:(a) reject the scientific fact that unborn babies are human beings; and
(b) reject the scientific fact that there are two sexes which cannot be changed, and that a man cannot be a woman just by "feeling" like one.
So, I suggest that those folks get their own scientific ignorance sorted out first ... before they go blasting Trump and claiming to be "scientifically superior" to him.
I also suggest that people stop politicizing every single thing in order to try to discredit elected officials with whom they disagree. There should be no politicizing of the coronavirus issue. It isn't like tax policy or some such issue, for which there are differing political views and ideologies.
Such a public health issue should bring a country together, and its people should get behind their leaders (even ones who they didn't vote for) in fighting it.
That certain Democrats are so quick to politicize this issue -- when it hasn't even become a widespread virus in the U.S. yet -- speaks volumes as to their character. And not at all in a good way.

Donnie is showing us with the Centers for Disease Control how he bankrupted six companies....
Put a hiring freeze creating 700 vacancies so they have no people....
Cut their funding so the have to money...
Muzzle and censor anyone from speaking the truth so this incompetence can be identified and those in charge held accountable...
Right out of the playbook; The Art of the Failure; My Life in Business and Government, by Donald "I'm Impeached" Trump...
On a related note, I wonder if his clothing factory in China where he gets his ties made is in Wuhan? Trump supporters, you may want to spray a little alcohol on those ties before putting them around your neck...

The United States has had 69 confirmed coronavirus cases in all, including 46 patients who were repatriated from virus hotspots in Asia and quarantined for 14 days on their return.
Twenty-three other people have been infected in the United States, a man in Chicago being the latest confirmed U.S. case, according to Azar.
The spread of the virus through communities would be an ominous development that would almost certainly intensify the epidemic in the United States.
69 out of 329 million is an epidemic?
President Donald Trump put Pence in charge of the U.S. response last week, amid rising complaints that the administration had been slow to prepare for the virus's spread.

Between Donny trying to defeat the virus by attacking it with tweets and Pence relying on God , I fear for the people of our country.
bass4funk
But the media doing it is ok?
What’s wrong with praying? I thought we had the freedom of choice and religion.
If Dems and liberals don’t politicize the issue, there’s absolutely nothing to fear about.
rainyday
Not the media's job to run the government response to the epidemic.
Nothing. But if I'm in an airplane that is in distress I want a pilot who is using his piloting skills rather than his praying skills to land the thing safely.
But Trump politicizing it almost every time he opens his mouth or puts up a tweet is OK?
Jimizo
Maybe he’ll retweet a trash meme of him hitting it with a golf ball.

“Actually, he didn’t fire him, it was Bolton that did. But he has a team, so we should let them do their job. Harping on them, won’t help the public, it definitely won’t help the Democrats.”
Typical cult response. You asked and I answered. Your come back is very lacking indeed. You referenced expecting a miracle. Funny enough this is what Trump mentioned would end it.
Lets not forget Trump called for Obama to resign during the Ebola outbreak. Typical bully, he can dish it out but whines when he gets called out. Shameful time to be an American.

So? It's a free media. Trump has Hannity on his side

Didn't Democrat FDR say the only thing we have to fear is fear itself?

Bit different here, only thing we have to fear is stupidity and ignorance....

I wonder has anyone checked Trump's campaign website to see if they are selling MAGA facemasks "Made in China"?
When you see people standing behind Trump wearing facemasks with the American flag, that will definitely be the sign.
bass4funk
As did I.
How so? Blame Bolton, didn’t stop the left before.
What miracle?
He was a citizen then.
I think it’s the best time to be an American

Trump politicized it in his speeches, blaming it on Democratic hoaxes and rumors with the media working to tank the stock market. General crazy stuff.
Meanwhile, the story has been dominating FoxNews.com. The only break was to announce Buttigieg exiting the race.
So glad these aren't the liberal scientists bought by shadowy funds to promote an agenda.

That is news is it not?
