"Last year, Pence came under fire when he signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act—a law that allowed business owners to discriminate against potential customers based on sexual orientation, surrounded by anti-gay marriage advocates who helped him push it through (even though supporters insisted it was about religious freedom rather than sexual orientation)."

"Indiana lost 12 conventions and up to $60 million as businesses chose to take their events elsewhere. Pence’s approval rating fell 15 points."

"Pence was up for re-election, and state law prohibits candidates from being on ballots in two contests. Trump’s formal announcement came about an hour before Pence’s noon Friday deadline for withdrawing." - article

Indiana's loss is a gain.

Matt Fuller breaks this process down into 17 easy steps in a very funny read.

To recap the events, the Republican vice-presidential candidate has said that the presidential pick should not be elected president; the Republican presidential candidate has tried as recently as last night to replace his vice-presidential candidate; and the campaign manager has publicly described the presidential candidate as jittery and emotional in the face of upsetting news. And all this has come out in the last day! source: Matt Fuller

Actually the chaos of Trump's personal life is the same as his public persona.

'Let Trump BE Trump', that guy stinks.

Another bone to the religious right.

Trump: "So, Mike, why do you want to be VP?"

Pence: "I'm a deeply unpopular governor about to lose reelection, and also I don't much like the gays and would like a national platform to pursue that."

Trump: "You're hired!"

Pence isn't a legislative deal maker a heart. He is going to try and pull Trump and the Congress to the right but he has never taken much interest in the compromises and ins and outs of crafting law.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Yes, he was dumped by the republicans in Indiana due to his vile policies toward LBGT folks. He also signed into law a requirement that funerals be held for foetusus. That may sound crazy but it is true. A judge nullified the law. Pence is a bible thumping super right wing loon who is unpopular in his own state. Trump pick him to shore up the evangelicals as Trump, three times divorced and more often found in a strip club than a church, needs to get that voter group. Pence will deliver them but turn off everyone else. The democrats are celebrating this choice no doubt. Its another Palin selection, But no one serious wants to run with Trump anyway. Pence is the least worst option.

Ah, Pence -- the bigot that took business away from his state because he refused homosexuals the right to marry, before he went 180 when TV shows and other industries started making good on their promises?

I guess birds of a feather.

"But as of Friday afternoon, Gingrich had yet to share his support with Trump himself. He told The Associated Press he had not received a call from Trump telling him he wasn’t getting the job."

The image of Newt sulking with a gallon of Hagen Daze and a fork. Newt, impeached and fined $300,000, couldn't pay his Tiffany bill, was the originator of today's 'image only content free' Legislators.

How the thought of two egos like Trump and Gingrich could ever be paired in any endeavor is Freud's nightmare psychosis.

Pence versus Science. Pence does not see connection between smoking and lung cancer.

The evidence? “Two out of three smokers does not die from a smoking related illness.”

Most Americans do not know this yokel but when they do they are not going to like him.

Pence: "I'm a deeply unpopular governor about to lose reelection, and also I don't much like the gays and would like a national platform to pursue that."

Heh. HRC once had these same views. In which she too believed men and women should only marry. But she back-peddled in order to get a few a more voters. . . Crooked Hilary.

"Yet Pence is largely unknown to many Americans. And his solidly conventional political background runs counter to Trump’s anti-establishment mantra."

No worries, the VP is just a figurehead, as soon as Trump is elected, he's going to turn Washington on its stupid head.l

As a registered independent voter, it is very entertaining to read the fear and desperation coming from the low information U.S. leftists who post here.

Gov. Pence is a good choice by Mr. Trump. Under his watch, Gov. Pence has Increased jobs, increased businesses, increased the state's budget surplus and lowered taxes. Just ask anyone from carpetbagger Obama and Mrs. Clinton's home state of Illinois how they like losing jobs and business to Indiana. Not to mention tax dollars from the people who have moved out of Illinois and into Indiana. . .

Gov. Pence is a good choice by Mr. Trump.

Only if you're a rabid right-wing conservative. Read about his record: http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-07-13/mike-pence-s-record-scrutinized-ahead-of-trump-running-mate-decision

From wnat I read about the guy, this sounds like an attempt by Trump to reconnect with the corrupt Republican establishment that has sold out the nations interested, caved to Democrat polemicists, and dumped on Trump consistently. If that is the case, this is his first big mistake.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

I love their new logo with the T penetrating the P. Must be more than bromance, Pence does seem quite the stereotype latent.

You'd better recheck your stats, Texas. Of course Indiana saw growth under Pence, who came into office just as the Obama recovery was kicking into gear. However, even compared with other midwestern "rustbelt" states, Indiana's growth has been lackluster - moderate at best, and lower than its neighbors. Nothing to write home about, and the economic setbacks Indiana suffered simply due to Pence's right-wing pandering certainly didn't help.

He'd likely lose his gubernatorial reelection bid. At least now he's got a more high-profile job until November that he can perhaps leverage into some right-wing Christian thinktank job.

Trump chose this guy because he thinks he will be loyal. Like a dog. And that's exactly what you want if you are running for president. Wait until the debates, and Trump will destroy Hillary and her evil oppression.

I don't think Trump is going to change his platform based on this but Pence is still very well liked in Republican establishment circles (outside of Indiana now) and there was some nervousness about that group covertly helping to elect Hillary. He also wanted to show that he could make safe, responsible decisions, which is somewhat analogous to the reasons Reagan got saddled with Bush in 1980. Hopefully this won't mean Pence will ever be president but he will be innocuous enough not to cost Trump a lot of independent or crossover votes.

Pence wasn't Trump's gut pick. For this time, Trump didn't go with his gut. Hope it doesn't come back to bite him, since that would be a worse way to lose. (Losing doing it your way one can live with; losing when ya didn't go with your gut, that's gonna keep ya up at night.)

http://www.pubpolitica.com/2016/07/15/the-pence-pick-the-time-trump-didnt-go-with-his-gut/

Trump, a man most comfortable going with his gut, had made his most important decision as a candidate based on political pragmatism, according to sources familiar with the events. He was swayed by his children and campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who had persuaded him that Pence would do more to strengthen Trump's campaign and unify the party than New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie

As late as Tuesday, advisers say, Trump had been leaning toward Christie, his longtime friend and now trusted adviser. Weeks earlier, Trump's children had been leaning toward Newt Gingrich

Trump has long been skittish about confrontation with those who are loyal to him, and Christie had stood with him longer than most. So Trump kept calling him Thursday, not quite saying he had chosen Pence

1 ( +1 / -0 )

He did what he had to do. Christie would have been a total disaster for conservatives.

He did what he had to do. Christie would have been a total disaster for conservatives.

You think so? Speaking as a leftie, he's one of the few Republicans from the clown show that had some good things to say in the debates. Pence is a rabid right-winger, no way lefties are going to vote for Trump with him on the ticket.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Y a w n !

Christie's family scandal ame out. This is the best announcement Trump did. How he lured Pence? Pence used to support Cru

Now who Hillary will choose her running mate?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Yes, he was dumped by the republicans in Indiana due to his vile policies toward LBGT folks.

But you're ok with the LGBT using bully tactics push Hollywood to create gay characters like Disney's frozen or Star Trek, instead of interfering in the liberal arts and movie making, now they have to be pushed to forcefully do as they say, you don't think that's equally as vile? I think it's wrong for any group to bully or force people, groups or organizations to think a certain way.

He also signed into law a requirement that funerals be held for foetusus. That may sound crazy but it is true. A judge nullified the law. Pence is a bible thumping super right wing loon who is unpopular in his own state.

So what's the difference between a religiously pushy bible thumper person or a pushy atheist person?

Trump pick him to shore up the evangelicals as Trump, three times divorced and more often found in a strip club than a church, needs to get that voter group.

I wonder how many clubs Bill visited?

Pence will deliver them but turn off everyone else.

If they are NOT part of his support base, probably. Kinda the same, Hillary is not well liked, except for the people that really support her and factor in the 57% untrustworthy factor....

The democrats are celebrating this choice no doubt. Its another Palin selection, But no one serious wants to run with Trump anyway. Pence is the least worst option.

For liberals, but for conservatives, it's a good pick.

Pence got to work on fulfilling his promises, and in 2013 he sealed the deal on a $1.1 billion give-back, the largest tax cut in state history. He also signed into law the state's first pre-K funding program and steered funds toward infrastructure improvements. By 2016, Indiana was enjoying a $2 billion budget surplus and a pristine triple-A credit rating, but critics point out that the state's wages are below national average.

But hey, No one is perfect....

Most Americans do not know this yokel but when they do they are not going to like him.

Actually, they do and this pick is something that Trump seriously needs, especially if he wants to bring in more establishment conservatives. A solid footing.

"But you're ok with the LGBT using bully tactics push Hollywood to create gay characters like Disney's frozen " - comments

It is hilarious when a cartoon is reality for some of the more rabid right like Swanson and those who chant his mantra. Let's check, frozen? gay? Who says?

"As Right Wing Watch reported, Pastor Kevin Swanson blasted producers of the movie, which has reportedly grossed over $1 billion worldwide and nabbed two Oscars, for trying to “indoctrinate” children into being gay, and treating “homosexuality [and] bestiality in a light sort of way.”

"He asked listeners in a radio broadcast, “How many Christians are taking their kids off to see the movie ‘Frozen,’ produced by an organization that is probably one of the most pro-homosexual organizations in the country?”

http://www.whbnews.com/news/2016/06/21/disney-controversy-lgbt-community-pushes-for-a-change/

In the beginning of May, the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend surfaced when Alexis Moncada (@lexi4prez), creator of feministculture.com, sent out a tweet to Disney pushing for a change in Disney’s typical movie structure. Followed by thousands of others, Moncada suggests that in the upcoming sequel to Frozen, Queen Elsa should have a female significant other. With the support of Idina Menzel, the voice of Elsa, the LGBT community has taken note of Moncada’s efforts and helped her push this idea forward. Many believe it is an important step in normalizing homosexuality and introducing it as something average, rather than “different” to children of all ages.

Who do these people think they are? As a parent, it's up to me to decide what is appropriate for my kids and what is not and it's not up to LGBT to push Disney or any organization and it's not up to that organization to push it on us if we don't want. Liberals claim that they are for individual rights, as long as they approve and all the while embracing fascism!
