Why oppose the recount if you have nothing to hide?

12 ( +16 / -4 )

What are they afraid of. This is simply a formality which tax payers are not paying for. Their best bet is to ignore the recount and wait for the results. If they had lost they would be doing the same thing. Chill out guys.

13 ( +15 / -2 )

And they're complaining about people protesting against Trump in the streets? Wow... totalitarian dictatorship views of "Everyone must follow what we say" I see.

I can't say enough how sick in the head these folks are.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

it's done. Move on. Nothing to hide. She lost. Deal with it. One can tell how horrible Killery was after she lost. Shes not for the people, she was for herself. If she cared about those who supported her, she should have shown up after the results. Did she? nope. She was throwing tantrums with the others. Now those of you who threatened to leave America...are you gone yet? If not, i can drive you to the airport. But since you practice Killery's cult and drank her Koolaid, you need to pay to play...er..i mean pay me to drive you.

-20 ( +1 / -21 )

It's rather chilling that some people would prefer not to know the vote was properly conducted in their haste to condemn one candidate or elevate another. These are people who would presumably support authoritarian rule. Democracy is not in good shape with many of those around.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

I think Trump knows something.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Let them count. It will help the Left get over their loss so they can put the pieces of their shattered lives back together.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

I very much agree with your comment. Except it wasn't just the Left that was affected by Trump's election. The unaffiliated are growing, and we're not happy with either candidate, and getting Trump was getting the Devil we didn't know instead of the one we did.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

I think Trump knows something.

What he knows is that if the recounts delay the vote certification deadline on December 13th, then he may not have the 270 electoral votes he needs to be immediately certified as the winner. In this case the congress and senate have to vote, each of the 50 states getting one vote. As Trump won quite a few more states than Hillary, he would win. And if it comes down to partisan nonsense in the congress and senate, his party controls both, and he still wins. This has happened once before in America, when Adams ran against Jackson. Though in that case Adams has less popular votes and electoral votes, the congress still voted him into the presidency.

The most the recounts can do is to "diminish" Trump's mandate. But with majorities in both houses in congress, and being able to immediately appoint a supreme court justice after taking office, and possibly one more later in his presidency, he has all the mandate he needs.

There is no possible outcome where Hillary can win. But there are still many ways to politically fleeces morons-I mean disgruntled voters, out of their money.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Why oppose the recount if you have nothing to hide?

because they DO have something to hide.

I think Trump knows something.

Yeah. In his alternate universe, millions of illegals voted for Hillary, BUT inspite of that, Trump and his Chumps don't want a recount. Go figure.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

What do they fear?

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Interesting, Hillary was saying that we should respect the voting process and that the loser would concede to the winner and now the woman wants to renege on her words? Not surprised at all, if the opposite happened, Democrats wouldn't stand for it and to be honest, they shouldn't. Hillary didn't spend a lot of time in the Cheese State, that's on her and now because Jill Stein wants to snag more money from gullible supporters, she tries to use a ploy to secure more money from these disenchanted voters by trying to give them a sense of hope? She never even answered the question, should the recount show that Trump is still the winner would she be willing and decent enough to send back the $5million she received from her donors and she said, nothing to that.

Dems NEVER learn, they did this in 2000 as well. Whatever, if the Dems want to go through this and divide the country further and piss off the people more, I say, go for it. I want the Dems to stay the way they are and never change, it's great for the GOP and conservatives. Kudos to the Dems.

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

The GOP should have just quickly and quietly gone with the recount. The results were never in question so they had nothing to lose. Now they are generating headlines that make them look bad. Suing to deny a legal recount? What on earth for?

6 ( +6 / -0 )

It's obvious now that Jill Stein is a Dem mole. All those Green Party voters have been hoodwinked. If they don't understand this by now, they never will.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Every American believes that the "majority rules" except for when they elect their president. Now the minority wants to dictate the terms of their democracy? Hypocrites!

0 ( +3 / -3 )

But Trump said there was voter fraud with millions of people voting illegally for Hillary. Trump should be the one funding this recount across all of America to finally show that he also won the popular vote! /s

4 ( +5 / -1 )

@keitai

Your friend Trump has threatened to get rid of all immigrants... Since you say :

i can drive you to the airport.

which Tribe are you from ? Comanche ? Navajo ? Cherokee ? ...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Every American believes that the "majority rules" except for when they elect their president.

Origins of the Electoral College

A third idea was to have the president elected by a direct popular vote. Direct election was rejected not because the Framers of the Constitution doubted public intelligence but rather because they feared that without sufficient information about candidates from outside their State, people would naturally vote for a "favorite son" from their own State or region.

Now we can see that the corporate media was pushing their "favorite son" with Hillary. Then along comes Trump who uses the greedy corporate media against them. The Electoral College system is still working.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Now we can see that the corporate media was pushing their "favorite son" with Hillary. Then along comes Trump who uses the greedy corporate media against them. The Electoral College system is still working.

So basically, Trump is just like Hillary. Congratulations, you played yourself.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

So basically, Trump is just like Hillary. Congratulations, you played yourself.

Nice critical thinking skills. Perfect example of why Hillary won the popular vote.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

The GOP should have just quickly and quietly gone with the recount. The results were never in question so they had nothing to lose.

And the Dems and especially Stein and Hillary have nothing to gain, so why drag this on and burden the people? It's just like, I want the Trump admin. to prosecute Hillary, but that Trump pulled himself out of it and focus on the country, I respect that even if I don't fully agree, but at least he's thinking about the country first. The Dems and Stein are ONCE again, thinking about themselves and their flawed ideology, genius!

Now they are generating headlines that make them look bad.

If I could get a quarter for every time I heard that. Trump is president beside the fact that everything he did and said, the Dems and libs kept screaming, "this is going to make Trump look bad" and then what? He won in a landslide. Seriously, I doubt it will.

Suing to deny a legal recount? What on earth for?

Because the election is over and as you said, the results wouldn't change anything, so why put the country through this nonsense again? Give it a rest. Regroup, try to think about the working and the middle class, try not to go too far left, respect religious freedom, stop penalizing the rich for being successful. focus on the private sector, stop vilifying the military our veterans and focus on the country FIRST, stop using race as a constant narrative, stop using the gender and the transgender card, call out everyone that disagrees with liberals policies as being a racist, a homophobe, listen to other opposing viewpoints, stop being violent, intolerant and belligerent towards people that disagree with you and the Democrats and liberals just might one day win and win big.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Recount should go ahead for integrity and fairness of the majesty of democracy. It will not change the outcome of election. Co-operate pay for the expenses. Trump will not pay for it. It is non of GOP business.

Those blue collar rust belts have not voted GOP for decades. Interestingly Trump who is an elite with fraudulent history won narrowly. It is hard to believe that Trump has won many poor and unemployed people hearts. If there is no rigging or hacking, everyone wil happily move on.

GOP is very autocratic and controlling almost everything. If they will go too far, there will be another revolution.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

We just had one 3 weeks ago. We call that a beatdown shellacking!

Who won in a landslide?

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/11/16/us/politics/the-two-americas-of-2016.html?_r=0

Yeah, a landslide

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

What on earth are you repubs so scared of???? Don't you WANT your own democracy to function?

I would think any state that was close would have re counts to double check as a matter of course.

If the repubs were smart, they would just keep their mouths shut, but alas.....

6 ( +6 / -0 )

What he knows is that if the recounts delay the vote certification deadline on December 13th, then he may not have the 270 electoral votes he needs to be immediately certified as the winner.

Trump has at least a three state cushion. The Dems play to delegitimize President elect Trump by sending the election to a partisan vote in Congress isn't going to happen. Well, it probably won't happen (after all, I thought Clinton would win in a landslide).

Who won in a landslide?

Trump, 306 to 234. An electoral college beat down.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Why are you pushing this "landslide" angle when you know Trump lost the popular vote?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Why are you pushing this "landslide" angle when you know Trump lost the popular vote?

Because we don't use the popular vote system, also the majority of the popular vote comes out of California, so if we go by our system Electoral College, yes, he won in a landslide. Bodyslam!

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

So it's like a kind of safe space you created in your mind where Trump has a mandate and liberalism was rejected by the voters?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

So it's like a kind of safe space you created in your mind where Trump has a mandate and liberalism was rejected by the voters?

Safe place? Is that what you libs are calling it now? LMAO. Super, get used to it, the next 4 to 8 years should be fun for you guys. You might just get to love the guy.

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

Just to double-check I consulted a dictionary:

Landslide n. An overwhelming majority of votes for one party or candidate in an election.

I thought so.

Bass, you should welcome a recount which may highlight irregularities. On this very site, a US citizen claimed to have the right to vote in both Japanese and US elections which is impossible as far as I'm aware.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Landslide n. An overwhelming majority of votes for one party or candidate in an election.

In the Electoral College that is correct.

I thought so.

Good, finally!

you should welcome a recount which may highlight irregularities.

Hey, if it can further make liberals as laughing stocks, by all means.

On this very site, a US citizen claimed to have the right to vote in both Japanese and US elections which is impossible as far as I'm aware.

You are allowed to think whatever you wish, Jim. Lol

-13 ( +0 / -13 )

Why are you pushing this "landslide" angle when you know Trump lost the popular vote? - comment

Heh, that logic is akin to a baseball team playing in the Workd Series having more hits/men on base but winds up losing the Series to the other team because it had more players who crossed home plate, thus scoring more runs.

Bottom line: President (elect) Donald J. Trunp is 17-0 in his first serious run for POTUS. Mrs. Bill Clinton 0-2 after more 20 years of riding on her husband's coat tails. . . .

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

a recount is just following the proper democratic process, If there is any discrepancies it should be investigated. If Trump or Hillary won they should allow the other to have the recount so there is no doubt who won.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Jimizo: Just to double-check I consulted a dictionary:

(wiktionary) landslide victory: an overwhelming victory in an election.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Texas: that logic is akin to a baseball team playing in the Workd Series having more hits/men on base but winds up losing the Series to the other team because it had more players who crossed home plate, thus scoring more runs.

Welcome back, Texas. We didn't see you much during the run up to the election when things weren't looking good for Trump, but here you are again now that it's safe to return.

You guys lost the popular vote. Don't worry, that doesn't mean you have to give back the presidency. But people will obviously bring it up when there's any talk of a mandate or what the majority wants, and Democrats should be aware of it when deciding what needs to be adjusted in our platform.

I'd recommend creating a safe space for yourself when the topic comes up. You'll need a better distraction than baseball.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Minority president-elect Trump knows that voters overwhelmingly chose Clinton, so he doesn't have a mandate. With this recount, which I don't think will turn up enough votes to make a difference for Clinton, if allowed to go through, the process will drag out beyond the Dec. 19 deadline for the electors to cast their vote. If the electors can't cast their vote in time, the decision for president could be decided by the House (I think this is a very remote possibility). Of course, the House will put Trump in office, but he would be further delegitimized (beyond what the outdated Electoral College has already done). That's why I think Trump wants to nip this whole recount in the bud.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

It is so funny to see how absurdly desperate people are, and how much they hope against all possibility that Hillary will somehow prevail. It is because people are so abundantly silly that Jill Stein can collect several millions of dollars in a pointless and doomed-to-fail recount.

The show is over, and everyone in the world knows it, except for those poor, deluded fools who simply cannot accept the fact that Hillary lost. Trump won, Hillary lost, game over. You can replay the tape over and over again, but Hillary will never come across the line in first place.

Even if Hillary were to win the electoral votes from the states in question, it would likely happen after the certification deadline, meaning that Trump would still win, because in such a case, the congress decides the winner. And since the republicans control the house and senate...

But even that is not likely to happen, because after the recounts, Hillary will not have more votes than Trump. There are no conspiracies, there are no Russian hackers, as the exit polls which were taken during the election coincided with the actual results.

Why are so many people so freaking dumb? No wonder the world is as screwed up as it is.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

The entire process is a major distraction.... take a look and listen to more facts before opining here...

@turbostat

My understanding is that the only people allowed to vote in Japan are Japanese citizens, and as the poster claimed to be a US citizen, this is very confusing given that Japan doesn't allow dual citizenship.

Perhaps Bass can clear this up as he's sure about this. I'm not sure but my American friends in Japan seem to think the same way as I do. I think this is an important issue both for the integrity of US and Japanese elections.

Moderator: This story has nothing to do with Japanese elections.

Perhaps Bass can clear this up as he's sure about this.

Nothing to clear up.

I'm not sure but my American friends in Japan seem to think the same way as I do.

My friends think the same way as I do as well.

I think this is an important issue both for the integrity of US and Japanese elections.

But not an important priority for this topic.

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

Bass,

Interesting, Hillary was saying that we should respect the voting process and that the loser would concede to the winner and now the woman wants to renege on her words?

It appears you've been out of the news loop for a few weeks. It's Jill Stein who's filed for the recount, not Clinton.

___.

It speaks volumes that Trump supporters would oppose a recount. If Trump or any of his cabal of sycophantic, opportunistic asshat adviros had any wits about them, they'd throw their arms open wide to the recounts. That is, if they had confidence in the results. And clearly . . . they don't. Afraid of what might be discovered?

Wait a sec. What is that pithy little ditty "Law & Order" conservatives like to toss out whenever a cop shoots an unarmed citizen for fleeing?

Ah, yes, I remember: "If you haven't done anything wrong, then why run away?"

10 ( +10 / -0 )

so if we go by our system Electoral College, yes, he won in a landslide. Bodyslam! the same electoral college that Trump himself said was corrupt! Fact still remains more Americans dont want him as President as those that do. Oh and your map of America that shows all the red, most of its populated with desert , wilderness cattle and wildlife. LOL

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Trump, 306 to 234. An electoral college beat down Clinton 48.2% 65,124,828, Trump 46.3% 62,652,263.... a popular vote kick in the nads!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

The radical alt left swallowed the fake news being pumped into their parents living rooms by a dishonest MSM hook, line and sinker. In the weeks leading up to the election, the alphabet networks and the cable outlets ran story after story under the graphic banner "The Road to 270 for Hillary Clinton"; not one piece was ever broadcast talking about "The Road to a Popular Win".

President (elect) Trump also achieved the following on the way to his 306-232 electoral shellacking of his democrat opponent:

He took 30 of 50 states; he also carried 2,600 of the 3,144 U.S. counties including 200 counties that voted for Obama in 2012.

Now, Mrs. Bill Clinton -- by proxy of Jill Stein -- is making a desperate last ditch effort to secure a presidential victory via a laughable recount. Like her supporters, Mrs. Clinton refuses to accept that fact that she was a flawed candidate who had no vision for America's economic future. She never learned from her husband who's campaign strategy in the early 1990s was centered around the phrase, "It's the economy, stupid."

The tender alt left snowflakes best better reserve safe places, crayons and coloring books, and Play Doh now. Their candidate is about to make U.S. history by being the only person to ever lose a presidential election twice within two months. . . .

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Texas: Trump also achieved the following on the way to his 306-232 electoral shellacking of his democrat opponent.

Looks like Texas is heading for the same safe space as bass.

Now, Mrs. Bill Clinton -- by proxy of Jill Stein....Mrs. Clinton refuses to accept

More safe spaces. Tex is creating a comfortable place in his mind where Jill Stein's recount is replaced with Hillary's recount which leads to her not accepting the outcome which leads to her being a bad candidate. Which is odd since so many more people voted for her than Trump.

Their candidate is about to make U.S. history by being the only person to ever lose a presidential election twice within two months. . . .

Rounding it out he shows his lack of knowledge about what was at stake. I'll chalk this up to a lack of reading rather than a coping skill.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@ Texas...whatever you were trying to write as a username

You kinda get it right but you also get it wrong. First, the radical left did not vote for Hillary. Perhaps it's a sign of just how far right politics have moved in the U.S. that folks like you consider centrists as the "radical left." (I'm not sure what Alt has to do with anything, BTW.) In a reality-based world, Clinton would be considered a bit to the right of center. And the safe places you talk about are plenty to be found in the States, so don't worry. Basically, places most Trump supporters can't afford to patronize, and will be even less able to do so in four years. Talk about buying a load of doo doo "hook, line and sinker."

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Let them count and get over. Republicans who believe Trump. won are not opposing recounts.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Nice critical thinking skills. Perfect example of why Hillary won the popular vote.

I'm surprised that you have the critical thinking skills of admitting that she actually won the popular vote, instead of believing in Trumps "illegal voting" conspiracy. Congratulations, I'm proud of you. By the way, I didn't vote for Hillary because I'm not even an American.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I find it odd how my own country, which uses a first-past-the-post constituency based system that is inherently corrupt, thinks that it has some sort of mandate each time to do what it will when it is clear that the majority of the country does not agree with it. Then we look at the US, which boasts aloud of its championing of democracy but its use of a lopsided "college" system and notice that the current pres-elect is also working with a so-called mandate that does not represent the majority of people in the country. Then we see somebody try to get a check on the votes because there may be grounds for suspicion that somebody might have been on the fiddle and suddenly the people at the top make a huge noise about it despite the fact that prior to the result they were making all sorts of noises about the whole process being fixed.

Every election process is fiddled in some way.

And methink that Drumpf doth protest too much.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It appears you've been out of the news loop for a few weeks. It's Jill Stein who's filed for the recount, not Clinton.

But Hillary jumped on that bandwagon, which she is now dropping the recount call, which was a ridiculous thing to begin with anyway.

___.

It speaks volumes that Trump supporters would oppose a recount.

Oh, stop! If the roles were reversed, the Dems and especially Hillary would never allow it. Don't get partisan on this!

If Trump or any of his cabal of sycophantic, opportunistic asshat adviros had any wits about them, they'd throw their arms open wide to the recounts. That is, if they had confidence in the results. And clearly . . . they don't. Afraid of what might be discovered?

I think you're more unhappy about the next 4 or 8 years of a Trump presidency. LOL

Wait a sec. What is that pithy little ditty "Law & Order" conservatives like to toss out whenever a cop shoots an unarmed citizen for fleeing?

Apples and Kiwi argument.

Ah, yes, I remember: "If you haven't done anything wrong, then why run away?"

Why even have a recount when the election is over. You guys didn't learn anything from 2000?? This is just going to end bad for Dems and libs and to telll you the truth, it's alright by me.

Looks like Texas is heading for the same safe space as bass.

Space of facts? Well, that's a good thing. Super, save yourself a lot of stress and grief. Our system doesn't use the popular vote system, so if you can understand that, you can handle the next 4 or 8 years comfortably. Try it, you just might like it.
