I wonder why taking a knee is considered very rude during the anthem. When a football player gets injured badly in the field, don't players from both teams take a knee to pray for their fallen NFL comrade.. This is a way of showing respect and care. When Colin Kaepernick first sat on the bench for the anthem, he got a lot of criticism. Maybe, with all the social injustices that African-Americans people have to endure, he thought America was "injured" and took a knee to pray that it gets better.

BTW, I am a big Pats fan and I am sad that they didn't win the SB. But what Trump and Fox s trying to do to the Eagles is despicable.

I would never bow to anyone, liberal or otherwise.

Same here. Neither monarchs nor mayors. In much the same way, I don't salute flags or stand for anthems. Even mine own.

I see that Trump didn't sing that patriotic ditty at the White House party for, er, patriotism the other day. Where is the righteous anger at that?

but not on Japanese TV

No, but in America you can and there's also this unique device called Sling TV which is another added tool.

Like no one else other than you! You're the most amazing rhetoric spitter ever!

Actually, I'm not, impossible, I'm totally outnumbered here, you really overestimate me, but I do appreciate the kind words.

No one in the history of time has ever managed to spin rhetoric at the level you do. Your amazing ability to make up random rhetoric about liberals that isn't actually supported by anything whatsoever is second to no one.

Flattery will get you nowhere.

Your ability to make things up, and frame them as reality, has never even been approached by another republican. There literally has never been, and never will be, a person who can make up rhetoric on the spot as well as you, and on top of being the most amazing rhetoric that will ever exist on this plane or any other plane in the multiverse, it appears that as a cherry on top, you actually think that what you are saying is not only true, it appears you believe other people are stupid enough to take your rhetoric at face value!

All compliments aside, you just described a lot of libs on JT in a nutshell.

Simply astounding. I stand (or rather bow in dogeza) in amazement.

Bass4life is the Universal emperor of rhetoric! All bow before his superiority.

I would never bow to anyone, liberal or otherwise.

Stangerland you're at home you can do whatever you want but in public ...you should stand

Whether you're correct or not, it has nothing to do whatsoever with this story. You didn't fall for the Fox propaganda that implied they were kneeling for the anthem did you? Or did you believe the president's spin that tried to make it look that way, even though it's not something that the team was doing? Tell me you fact checked yourself son, you didn't just spout a bunch of stuff without first checking to make sure it wasn't lies, did you?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Stangerland you're at home you can do whatever you want but in public ...you should stand ....simple ....but everyone must hated Trump....but we love our rise in stocks...but we still hate Trump...lol sad

Trump throws a temper tantrum again. WAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can't come to my house and play! I really can't understand why anybody would want anything to do with this egotistical immature brat. Trump is not worthy to even talk to, and why would anybody want to? Everything he says is about me me ME. He's uncouth, moronic, narcisstic and boorish and a crybaby. He's nothing but a jerk.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yes. Each time you do that, satan kills a baby eagle.

GULP!!! Eagles are already endangered so, I hereby refuse to watch any future event where the National Anthem is played; my personal comfort, and the enjoyment I get from drinking beer and feasting on Buffalo Wings, while watching television, is too important to me and is not negotiable.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Was I Unpatriotic when I sat on my couch, beer in hand and a plate of Buffalo Wings on my lap, when they played the National Anthem

Yes. Each time you do that, satan kills a baby eagle.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Was I Unpatriotic when I sat on my couch, beer in hand and a plate of Buffalo Wings on my lap, when they played the National Anthem or should I have jumped to attention, with hand on heart, spilling both beer and wings??

"God Bless America" was written a hundred years ago, but apparently that still hasn't been enough time for the "patriotic" Chump to learn the words. His pathetic public performance was an embarrassment. What a loser! SAD!

@ Kawabegawa 198

Not finding kneelers serving in the US military worries nobody. It's those (not a few) clandestinely goose-stepping, right arms raised, swastika-loving rednecked folk serving in the military your draft-dodging orange Commander-in-Sheets finds so "fine" that do scare so many of us.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Dunno why Trump disinvited the team. He could just have lied about the attendance.., as he usually does.

Civitas Sine SuffragioJune 5  12:00 pm JST

Well, it ain't known as the National Felons League for nothing.

Known by who? Klan members?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Why do these guys get to infringe on my rights?

We really need to toughen you up.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Other than literally every waking minute of every day for all time, never.

Hardly, Strange, hardly....

Other than every sane person who ever lived since the dawn of time, no one.

Liberals are sane now? Since when?

See, we can spin rhetoric like you too!

You guys do it like no one else, like the song goes “Nobody does it better”

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

millionaires jumping on the bandwagon for the 'cool' factor.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Wow!!! Since when did the left care about the Freedom of expression and the Second amendment?

Other than literally every waking minute of every day for all time, never.

Who’d thunk it?

Other than every sane person who ever lived since the dawn of time, no one.

See, we can spin rhetoric like you too!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The loony right has got selective constitutional thinking on this post. Let's not defend the 1st amendment and the 2nd is a different issue and topic.

Wow!!! Since when did the left care about the Freedom of expression and the Second amendment? Who’d thunk it?

Loony right is like a three leg horse in a race and will stumble on the first bend.

I don’t know what that means.....liberal rationale?

All constitutional rights are defended and President Duckie took an oath and sworn to defend and uphold it.

I think he’s doing a good job, got my hardware, everyone can express themselves at the appropriate time, Yup, winning.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Chris Long is the most vocal Trump hater on that team. He’s not black.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Constitutional rights are above all others which you are always preaching about with the gun laws.

completely different issue and topic.

OMG you are actually kidnapping the success of the black president Obama.

What success? If you call racial division a success, well, then you win.

You have stated so many times he's the president, you hate the most but now you need him to defend your comments.

What? Oh...lol

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Why do Americans get so excited about 'patriotism'? You can be proud of your country without draping yourself, your house or your car in a flag, and has been said.

Also, as was said above, why play the national anthem at a domestic game? Don't get that one. Seems a little daft. Even at a domestic football (I refuse to call it soccer) or rugby game when the teams link arms and (some) sing their anthems it doesn't seem as po'-faced as the sights at an American domestic game.

If you go to or watch a game on the telly to feel proud to be an American that's just a bit sad.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

So the left has forgotten their outrage when individual players didn’t want to or were just unable go to the Obama White House?

Its just “cool” to diss Trump. But he doesn’t care and just moves on.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

What rights exactly are they infringing on?

My rights to watching a game I paid for. But seriously, let’s focus for a moment, the NFL is really hurting right now, just trying to hemorrhage and that is because people don’t like what they’re doing, even if people support him, there is a time and place for everything and during the game is not the place to do it and even if you disagree, the fans are showing their displeasure.

There is no standing/kneeling during the game. It's all over with before the ball comes into play. So what's the problem?

They are doing this during the anthem and most people find it disrespectful, as do I and I don’t pay to see these players take a political position and if they don’t want to sing the national anthem, then stay in the locker room and then come out when it’s over, I don’t have a problem with that.

Two and a half centuries more or less to get yourselves sorted, and this is as far as you've got with your 'melting pot'. For shame.

Oh, stop. We do better than every other country, you’re not going to see a black prime minister or a black chancellor or black president in any other country, not for long time except for the US. We are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but as far as diversity, no one can hold a candle to us.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

there is a time and place for everything

It could be argued that a local sporting event is nether the time nor the place for flag-waving and nationalist sentiment?

Why do these guys get to infringe on my rights?

What rights exactly are they infringing on?

political grandstanding during the game.

It's my understanding that all the standing/kneeling takes place before the game begins, which is what you've been calling for in your posts. There is no standing/kneeling during the game. It's all over with before the ball comes into play. So what's the problem?

Black communities

Two and a half centuries more or less to get yourselves sorted, and this is as far as you've got with your 'melting pot'. For shame.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

There's a serious problem right there in "White neighborhoods".

Because they want to escape the crime that hits most Black communities, even well off Blacks don't want to live there if they have the financial means.

So we haven't reached the situation of "American neighborhoods" we still have a rail track racial division of society.

Sadly, yes. but we will always be a divided nation if the liberals don't and refuse to accept the facts that their social liberal policies that destroyed the Black community.

Please explain why the whole darn stadium shouldn't be down its knees protesting this.

Because there is a time and place for everything. Why do these guys get to infringe on my rights? No, and as you said, you don't know anything about the NFL, more and more people are getting tired of seeing politics in sports! It's enough, take your grievance and do it off the field or go on a TV program or protest in front of the stadium, not when I'm paying for the game, but more and more people are just tuning off and going to college football because less drama and as the NFL lose more ticket sales the results will be they will have their paychecks cut, so maybe that needs to happen so that these guys get it through their thick skulls No one cares about their political grandstanding during the game.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Are there any Republican voters here bashing Trump, if so, sound out.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Trump is no longer protecting the constitution, his No1 responsibility and instead making his own interpretation of what an American is.

What a bunch of BS! Of course he is protecting the Constitution. Kneeling during the game, if you think that it's infringing on the Constitution, then I can make the argument, it is infringing on my right as a fan and spectator. I'm a paying customer, I don't care about your political beliefs just like I don't care what the idiots in Hollywood think, as a buying customer, I want to watch the game, you want to protest, do it on your own time. If the President outright blocked them from protesting at all, you would have a strong argument, but that's not what is happening. Now I don't have to worry about seeing these knuckleheads kneel and after the game, they can do what they want, no one has to worry about their constitutional rights being infringed.

We are on the downslide. It is also American to dodge the draft.

He wouldn't be the first President.

When the Second Amendment is challenged Trump, the conservatives, and the gun lobby are the first to scream and the loudest.

Yup!

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Civitas Sine SuffragioJune 5 12:00 pm JSTWell, it ain't known as the National Felons League for nothing.

because many of the franchise owners are corrupt old farts who threaten to move their franchises unless they get free tax-free land, tax breaks and millions of dollars in subsidies robbing communities of monies which would be better spent elsewhere?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

If Trump wants to talk about respecting the national anthem he should at least learn it's words.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

we cannot be responsible or talk about things that we weren’t responsible for 150 years ago

A black person is 2.5 to 3 times more likely than a white person to be shot by police in America. That's NOW, not 150 years ago.

Please explain why the whole darn stadium shouldn't be down its knees protesting this.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/do-police-kill-more-whites-than-black-people/

Not only Blacks, but Native Americans, tournaments, Latinos, white people, Asians, Jewish people, Muslims, women, LGBTQ, people that suffer from various forms of physical handicaps, albinos, take your pick, Blacks aren’t the only people that have to deal with injustices.

As always, you make the Land of the Free sound like a really wonderful place to live. Not.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

before the game you can bring light to any of your social issues or to the promise that you hold dear in your heart, but not during the game.

Shows how much I know about American football. I thought all the standing-hand-on-heart/kneeling during the anthem stuff took place before the game starts. Are you telling me they play the anthem at regular/irregular intervals throughout the game, and the players are all expected to stop and stand-hand-on-heart till the music stops playing and the flag stops flapping?A bit like Daruma-san-ga-koronda with a rugby ball?

I've heard American football described as being a slow, boring game where the players spend more time standing around than they do actually playing - is this the reason why?

Pulling tongue from cheek, I ask seriously, if the anthem is played before the game starts, how does it affect your enjoyment of the game if before the game players/spectators stand, kneel, dance, whatever?

Why does the national anthem need to be played at a regional game anyway? If you want to keep politics out of it, why not just ditch the gratuitous nationalist sing-song?

your freedom of speech is infringing on my freedom of speech which means that you’re forcing your fascist ideas on me and forcing me to listen to something I don’t give a rats......about.

Does not compute. Who is 'forcing' any ideas, fascist or otherwise, on you? In what way is your freedom of speech being impinged upon? You are at perfect liberty to express your disapproval. Who is telling you not to express your opinion? What are you being forced to listen to? Players kneeling silently and respectfully are not forcing you to listen to anything. Presumably all you're hearing is your precious anthem. It's pretty obvious the message isn't getting through to you.

*if people or foreigners think it’s comical or ridiculous, well, ...*

Foreigners are not people? If you pr1ck us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? (The JT Improper Language Filter apparently disapproves of Shakespeare..)

I have no problem standing (not the hand-on-heart thing, though, that's creepy) for the anthem of any country, so long as I have the option not to do so. Tell me I must, and I won't. Not even for God Save The Queen or Kimigayo.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

You should be aware that the system is biased against black Americans,

Long time ago, yes, but now No. By the way, the NFL is what percentage Black? And what percentage Black is the NBA? So if anything Blacks are some of the highest paid athletes and THESE players have NO reason to gripe. These guys live in million dollar homes, by the way in White neighborhoods, so if they ARE for injustice and think Whites are The problem, then why is it that they live in predominately white neighborhoods?

By choosing to kneel at the anthem, players are not disrespecting America.

They are disrespecting the fans. We don’t care about their politics and the drop in viewership and stadium attendance has been showing this.

They are highlighting the disrespect dished out to black people on a daily basis.

Not only Blacks, but Native Americans, tournaments, Latinos, white people, Asians, Jewish people, Muslims, women, LGBTQ, people that suffer from various forms of physical handicaps, albinos, take your pick, Blacks aren’t the only people that have to deal with injustices.

I realise for some, that making a stand (or a kneel) in the land of, er, freedom is somehow worse than actually being racially abused or murdered but what is the option?

Not at all, but it becomes a problem when you are infringing on my rights and I am paying to watch a game, if I am at mid it free of charge and it’s on the house, you do what you want because I don’t have a right to say anything because I was admitted free, but if I pay, then No, please shut up and play the game. If you protest on the side off field and bring attention to your plight then I will support you wholeheartedly 100%!

Perhaps players could prove their allegiance by signing a Glorious Loyalty Oath? Before each game, like some kind of continual reaffirmation, in order to keep everyone happy...

Maybe they could just be quiet, go on Ellen’s show or Anderson Cooper and spill their guts out, I wouldn’t mind that at all.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

The No1 job of the president is the protection of the constitution.

So we both agree on something.

The presidential oath of office that is prescribed by the U.S. Constitution (Art. II, sect. 1) makes it clear that the President’s supreme responsibility is to “…preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Again, No arguments here.

Where does it say people have to stand for the national anthem?

It doesn’t say that, it also doesn’t say that when I pay big money that I have to listen to a bunch of knuckleheads protest and take a knee. Again, this is why more and more people are turning the channel to college football. The heck with the NFL if they want to grandstand, the less people watch, it might get through their thick heads that they should find a proper time to protest either before or after the game.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

I don’t know about Europe

You should be aware that the system is biased against black Americans, in much the same way, the UK system was biased against Irish people, especially at the height of the "troubles".

By choosing to kneel at the anthem, players are not disrespecting America. They are highlighting the disrespect dished out to black people on a daily basis.

I realise for some, that making a stand (or a kneel) in the land of, er, freedom is somehow worse than actually being racially abused or murdered but what is the option?

Trump hasn't condemned Roseanne for her racism

Has it been proven that Roseanne knew she was black? I'm not sure Jarret knows either. Anyway, if Roseanne didn't know she was black, then racism doesn't apply.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Being black, apparently

Or maybe committing a crime?

The Central Park 5?

Ok, now I’ll top that, so what about the Black on Black crime in Chicago, so what is the excuse?

In these cases, it's black Americans and white Irish people being subjected to injustice by the authorities.

I don’t know about Europe, but in America, the majority of the time, the cops are doing their job respectively and responsibility. But what about Chicago where a large portion of Blacks that commit crimes and shot are shot by other gang members or Black cops? Is that also racist?

I think NFL players showed great restraint. If it was me, I'd burn the flag, there and then

Well, Trump solved the problem, they are losing money, so if these knuckleheads want to continue the grandstanding, they will play to more and more empty seats. The fans will have the final say.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Maybe they were doing something they should not have been

Being black, apparently

Everything has a reason and a cause and effect.

The Central Park 5?

Or let's make it a different demographic - the Guildford 4 and the Birmingham 6, for example?

In these cases, it's black Americans and white Irish people being subjected to injustice by the authorities.

I think NFL players showed great restraint. If it was me, I'd burn the flag, there and then.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Anyway, Judging by the comments on Twitter, message boards, sports sites, etc., the Trump trog base is pretty happy that Trump "stood up" to those "spoiled," "immature," "selfish" players.

Translation for non-Americans: spoiled, immature, selfish blacks.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

When someone calls you a "son-of-a-bi***," you don't then go to their house. Anyway, Trump must have found out that the Eagles were going to present him with a jersey with "Trump" and the number "00" on it! And no one will ever listen to what a D R A F T D O D G E R has to say on the subject of patriotism. Shame on the NFL for caving in.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

but I also have a right to watch the game at peace, so I don’t want to infringe on my rights

Would you say that being yelled at by a hillbilly in a white hood while you’re walking down the street infringes on anyone’s peace? The Right sure don’t seem to think so during their “freedom of speech” tours across college campuses.

But having to look at a black person kneel down on TV...just to disturbing.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

The USA's obsession with patriotism and their national anthem is a bit weird.

It is, no relativation by at least 62 million Americans :)

3 ( +3 / -0 )

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Evelyn Beatrice Hall, 1906

It's simple, really. Too bad this message is being lost today.

Now it's something more along the line of "I disapprove of what you say and I will cry and scream until you are silenced if you try to say it."

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

I don't get what's disrespectful about kneeling. If the players dropped their pants and wiggle their bare butts in front of the cameras while the Anthem was played it would be a different matter...

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I served in the military to protect the freedoms of these guys to be able to protest however they feel they need to.

That said, you also cannot tell someone else what offends them and what doesn't. You can't just say 'but I don't mean it like that' when someone is offended by your actions. I can't use the 'N' word and say 'but I mean it like the rappers use it, not in the racist way'. It's not up to me if it is offensive to others.

To me, kneeling during the anthem is disrespecting the flag and those who have fought and died to protect it, but because of their sacrifice, you are free to do so. I just don't have to like it or support you for doing it.

Fortunately for me, I couldn't care less about football so I'm not missing out on anything.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Trump is horrible. The people who vote for Trump, horrible.

And he will be re-elected in the economy holds. Because horrible people vote.

Yay democracy....

4 ( +6 / -2 )

It really doesn’t matter whether you served or not, but your heart and dedication towards your country. I take it very seriously and the people in my town as well

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Eagles would NOT have gone, anyway -- Trump just grandstanding. The White House has been changed into the White Supremacy House.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

But a patriot nonetheless, you don't have to spill blood to be a devoted patriot. but its not a patriot that criticizes those who have shed blood and sacrificed far more than Trump has for his country, bone-spurs aside.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

What do you have to do? Stand up for a song? Raise a flag in your garden? Shout about other people not standing up?

Been our tradition for a long time.

Anybody can do that. I’m surprised it impresses you particularly when it comes from a politician playing the game.

Yes, it impresses me, not only for the game, but for other special occasions.

Sorry about the misunderstanding about ‘family connections’. Poor phrasing on my part. I meant the people who didn’t serve in the military but drone on about family members who did in a pathetic attempt to boost their own patriotic credentials.

It really doesn’t matter whether you served or not, but your heart and dedication towards your country. I take it very seriously and the people in my town as well and if people or foreigners think it’s comical or ridiculous, well, back at them, feelings go both ways.

then followed by a further 10 comments so you do care.

No, just expressing my personal opinions, but when I do watch a game by thr big leagues, I do care, but I don’t that’s why I watch college football, less drama.

If Trump had flipped the other way, would you have still followed him.

No, I would have held on to the same position.

Is this about supporting Trump or supporting the right to freedom and expression.

It’s about supporting the right thing and if these knuckleheads want to protest, I’ll back them, just not during the game, before or after, be my guest.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Bonespurs talks patriotism. Didn’t walk the walk. Not very impressive.

There are patriots who shed blood for their countries. Money where the mouth is and all that.

That's another way of expressing your patriotism, sure.

Bonespurs talks patriotism. Didn’t walk the walk. Not very impressive.

Family connections aren’t impressive either. My mother was a very handy professional tailor but don’t trust me to hem the trousers of your suit.

That depends on your personal outlook, I think if you have connections, you should use them to your advantage, I did and I have zero regrets, I feel blessed and lucky and if that helps my kids in the future, more power to them as well.

It’s amazing how spouting off about patriotism impresses some people.

or how it annoys others.

This is just really about saving face for Trump since he'd be getting a much smaller team who accepted his invitation

1) This is not about kneeling during the anthem because none of the Eagles players did that last season - so to make it about kneeling during the anthem is attributing something to the Eagles players what they didn't do

2) Trump didn't consult with team before making the decision, so those Eagles who were actually making plans to go are now blindsided with only a couple days away from the event

3) Trump just 4 years ago tried to buy the Buffalo Bills before being rejected again by the NFL owners - and before that in the 80s, he unsuccessfully tried to directly challenge the NFL with his league the USFL, in an effort to force a merger and get in as an NFL owner that backdoor way. Suffice to say, he's always had a grudge against the NFL

4) Eagles player Chris Long put his body on the line for free last season since he donated all of his 2017-18 salary to charity causes that deal with the issues being highlighted by the kneeling players

6 ( +6 / -0 )

no one should tell them how or when they can protest or express freedom of speech especially if its done peacefully.

Except the fact they are at work representing the NFL. You realize when you work certain jobs you have to follow rules when on the clock. Cops can not have pink mohawks, military personnel can not wear political buttons on their uniform, NFL players have to stand for the anthem. They can be disrespectful and childish when they arent wearing the uniforms

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

How do you know he doesn’t?

His past behavior and statements? Sure, he'll promise to "honor our great country, pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it" to fool the gullible, but when cornered, he'll insult even a POW's service without qualms. That's not the actions of a person that really cares.

Or do liberals have some embedded 6th sense that allows them to sniff out what others think?

It's called observation and paying attention. Anyone can do it. You should try it some time. Please try it some time.

Making sure to damage him as much as humanly possible.

No, we simply call him out on his easily observed lies and faults.

I think it’s the other way around, I think the left are so deeply obsessed with this president that they can’t function, eat or even sleep, that is your only mission and goal is to say anything negative or do whatever they can to undermine the president, when it comes to policies or any of the issues they don’t have anything to offer, except for racism, gender identity politics and more socialism to give away free stuff.

Nah, I'm tired of the daily BS from the WH and wish we didn't have to call him out. He probably know's we have to though, and he knows that that in turn makes his base go "there go those liberals again." The left calls out his BS to keep it from becoming normalized, and the right hates us for it. We would all be better off if the right woke up to the fact that they're being conned.

Marc Short said in an appearance on CNN that he didn't know who had canceled on whom, but said, "It's unfortunate when politics gets in the middle of this."

Yeah, it's unfortunate when Donald Trump gets in the middle of wherever he doesn't belong. Like condemning black suspects before trial, and then continuing to condemn them after they serve years in jail and are declared not guilty. Like building a political career on the racist meme that Obama was not born in America and is a closet Muslim (i.e. a darkie evil man), and then discarding that meme by blaming Hillary Clinton for creating it. Nice one! Or Trump trying to order a postage increase on Amazon because he doesn't like the journalistic integrity of the Washington Post, which is owned by the same person who owns Amazon. Or just about every time Trump lets wind on Twitter, injecting his political power into myriad facets of public life.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

And how could you possibly know what he does or does not get?

Oh, now liberals think “we don’t know what he’s thinking” but when they say “he’s thinking.....they know. I keep forgetting liberals know everything. Lol

It's not. It's just an intention to use a word spelled one letter off from a well known racial epithet, in order to say 'hey, I'm not saying the real N word,

What a bunch of BS nonsense, I mean you guys are just really Diggin to the deepest part of the canyon now pebbles and all. But like I said, liberals will twist and contort anything or any word into something and make it out to be racist. So if I say I love blackened steak or blackened fish then I guess I must be a racist. ROFL

Whether it's actually racist or not, it's pretty silly.

Seriously, for the life of me and in all honesty, I don’t understand what it is about the left and this constant drive to equate anything and everything to race. It’s really sad.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

I get it, well, I really don’t need anyone to tell me how I should worship or how I should have pride in my country or how to celebrate it. same goes for NFL players and no one should tell them how or when they can protest or express freedom of speech especially if its done peacefully.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Except the for freedom of speech and expression parts

Not at all. They have the right to protest. They should do it before the game or they can do it after the game, if I would be against it, then I would say they’re not allowed to contest at all, but I also have a right to watch the game at peace, so I don’t want to infringe on my rights and I won’t infringe on there, so we compromise, they do it either before the game or after the game and during the game.

Also, freedom of speech does not mean you can yell fire in a crowded room.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

cut the anthem out completely if you just want to watch football.

Amen.

Status quo is not political to the status quo. Kneeling would not be necessary without the status quo.

As for the Eagles visit to the White House: once again, Trump's ego takes priority.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

It sure is.

That’s a matter of opinion.

Let's not kid ourselves, other nations have had their fair share of 'issues' with players not singing the national anthem (for example), supporters being upset about it etc but it's unthinkable that a PM/President would choose to publicly name & shame the players involved or refuse to meet with them.

In your countries perhaps, there are things that take place in your country that would be unthinkable in our country

They obviously don't like it but they also know that alienating/ostracizing the players would not only make things worse but also be counterproductive in the long run.

DT obviously doesn't get it.

Actually, he does get it, but the place they don’t get it and that’s reason why they keep getting penalized, but I’m sure they’ll wake up one day and realize that things have the proper order and things will not always go the way they want them to.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

@lucabrasi, it's deplorable racism and also nonsense--since Wc62 knows none of the Eagles were "kneeling" or "nagging" with the only case being a silent raised fist gesture. I guess the mods must be too slow to get a provocative pun like that.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

But I’m I bleed Patriotism through and through.

The USA's obsession with patriotism and their national anthem is a bit weird.

It sure is. Playing it in your own country between two teams from your own country is utter nonsense. Flying military aircraft over the venue borders on the sick.

I respect your opinion, but I totally disagree, I get goosebumps every time I see it. Love it. That’s MY opinion. But I’m I bleed Patriotism through and through.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

With respect, we all know that's not true, Mr bass. You wouldn't be here, otherwise.

No, that’s why I don’t want to hear what these knuckleheads think.

True, but you can be responsible for the prejudice that plays out now and every day when disproportionate numbers of black males are incarcerated, when they are restrained and choked, shot and maimed.

Maybe they were doing something they should not have been. Everything has a reason and a cause and effect.

Not to mention being disbelieved, when they have mixed race kids.

That is not true.

Hassled that their kid couldn't possibly be theirs.

So wait a minute, “every biracial” child is harassed? ROFL

Or when they have the police called on them for just being there. Or called "thugs/felons/sons of b*tches".

Thug is not a racist term, anyone hoodlum can be a thug or are you saying calling someone an idiot carries a raically charged epithet? SOB can be anyone and if you aren’t innocent, resist arrest, trying to assault a police officer, verbally or physically, that doesn’t give you the right and it doesn’t mean a cop has to take it, they’re people to. If you act in a responsible way, you don’t have to worry about the police doing anything. Cops don’t go on a hunting spree looking for minorities to give a beat down. You guys....omg.....smh.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

well the nfl has decided to put these childish morons in the locker room for the anthem this year because they can not follow rules while at work. thank goodness

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

All flags and anthems are meaningless.

I think they have some function at international events such as sporting events. Have a sing song, put the cloth up and have a round of applause and all that. A bit of mutual respect/lip service. A bit silly but some like a bit of pomp.

Playing it in your own country between two teams from your own country is utter nonsense. Flying military aircraft over the venue borders on the sick.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

I don’t care what your opinion is.

With respect, we all know that's not true, Mr bass. You wouldn't be here, otherwise.

True, but you can be responsible for the prejudice that plays out now and every day when disproportionate numbers of black males are incarcerated, when they are restrained and choked, shot and maimed. but I get excited every single time I touch soil.

Yeah, seems like you just touched soil with that very post.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

It's brainwashing, indoctrination from an early age.

Ahhhh, thr old, don’t have pride in your country. I get it, well, I really don’t need anyone to tell me how I should worship or how I should have pride in my country or how to celebrate it. For me, I have been to over 43 countries and in my personal humble opinion, none of them can hold a candle to the US, that’s my opinion and if anyone disagrees, that’s quite alright, but I get excited every single time I touch soil.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

Why?

All flags and anthems are meaningless.

Disagree.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Childish behaviour on Trump's part, but what do you expect?

He’s right, you want to play games, stay in the locker and if you don’t want to come out and sing the national anthem stay in your locker, we don’t have time for none of this BS especially if we pay money for it. You have every right to protest you have every right for your opinions to be hurt and to dissent, but you don’t have the right to upstage any event if people are paying for it-period!

Protesting at police violence against black people is not disrespecting the anthem.

No, but I don’t care about your social issues when I paint for a game, I don’t care what your opinion is. If I want to hear someone’s opinion then I watch the nightly news to hear opinion and it shows, but not when I’m trying to watch a game.

It's drawing attention to the injustice, the centuries long injustice and prejudice that black people face.

I get it, when you finish your game, or before the game you can bring light to any of your social issues or to the promise that you hold dear in your heart, but not during the game.

This is the fundamental problem that I have with liberals your freedom of speech is infringing on my freedom of speech which means that you’re forcing your fascist ideas on me and forcing me to listen to something I don’t give a rats......about.

And the ugly trope that black people have a "chip on shoulder" is even more ridiculous.

It’s true. If you think about the injustices on every one that has been affected threw out the thousands of years, everyone and every racial group has an axe to grind and everyone can say they have a chip on the shoulder, you need to rise above it and MoveOn, we cannot be responsible or talk about things that we weren’t responsible for 150 years ago

None of the Eagles took a knee during the anthem in 2017. -- article

Instead, they staged on-field protests by raising clenched fists, ala Tommy Smith, during the playing of the National Anthem throughout the season.

Kaepernick . . . remain unsigned since (his contract) with the 49ers expired. -- article*

Fake News. Kaepernick's contract never "expired". He walked away from the 49ers while still under contract because he thought he was worth more than SF was willing to pay a backup QB. They gave him a severance check and told him to take a hike.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Matt Hartwell would have to stand up anyway to let Mike Pence down the aisle to get out of the stadium. Can anyone else recall an American leader that had to be ushered out early from both a Broadway musical and an NFL game? A historic vice president in the category of self-ejections.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

This article sums it all up, sadly.

https://theintercept.com/2018/04/03/politics-liberal-democrat-conservative-republican/

But what if the source of this polarization has little do with where people actually fall on the issues, or what people actually believe in? What if people are simply polarized by political labels like “liberal” and “conservative” and what they imagine their opponents to be like more than they are by disagreements over issues like taxes, abortion, and immigration?

That news wouldn’t surprise anybody who’s spent time battling it out in a news outlet’s comment section, and it’s the firm conclusion of new research by Lilliana Mason, a professor at the University of Maryland.

Black lives don't matter to some. Because they see it as a liberal issue, rather than one of respect and equal treatment to their fellow human beings.

What a sad and sordid thing American "politics" is.

but if I was visiting America and attended the football I would stand for sure.

You honestly believe Trump gives a crap either way?

How do you know he doesn’t? Or do liberals have some embedded 6th sense that allows them to sniff out what others think?

It's another distraction for his supporters, not liberals.

Here we go...

The liberals are already against him so what would be the point in that.

Making sure to damage him as much as humanly possible.

No, he wants to secure his base,

Pretty much locked and loaded on that, trying to increase it as a matter of fact.

and god knows the base on the right jumps at any opportunity to "out-patriot" the left, no matter how superficial the display. He wants you to think he's on your side standing up for "true Americans"... You guys fall for it every time.

I would not site for a foreign country's anthem out of respect

Gibberish. Like right wingers respect any country, Russia excluded perhaps.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

You do, obviously,

I don’t.

if you're going to switch to college football, as you say. And I love how you ask (once again, when doing a 180), "who cares" and follow with:

I don’t. What is up with you libs, commenting and caring are two different things. If I’m driving and I see someone with the gas tank cover open, and I tell them, “hey! your gas cover is open” does not mean that I care, I’m just letting them know.

But seriously,cas always, nice try.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

I would not site for a foreign country's anthem out of respect, let alone my own country. Bunch of bums

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

People are free to kneel if they want. Personally I think its insulting and I'm not surprised many see it that way, but its not causing direct physical harm to anyone so....

More of a man than you will ever be though.

I don’t know your criteria for masculinity but I don’t remember tweeting about fake sex tapes in an online screeching match/cat fight with a woman.

Let’s have a think...no. Nothing like that.

Trump is a yapping Pomeranian.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

This is another losing position that liberals will now fight to the death against just because Trump is for it.

You honestly believe Trump gives a crap either way? It's another distraction for his supporters, not liberals. The liberals are already against him so what would be the point in that. 6 ( +7 / -1 )

This is another losing position that liberals will now fight to the death against just because Trump is for it.

Freedom of speech is a losing position or a liberal position?

The Supreme Court has consistently ruled in favor of the freedom of speech.

Is SCOTUS too liberal? Is the constitution too liberal? Are they losers too?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

@Jonorth, the Department of Defense started paying to get involved for recruitment purposes in 2009, when the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were leading to a shortage of troops. I guess the billionaire owners didn't want to pass up the cash and were unprepared for how the players would react under a microscope as the supposed standard-bearers of American patriotism. Just the assumption that all the players unquestioningly supported war must have rubbed them the wrong way and got them thinking about homegrown causes to support that were more relevant than spending trillions to fight Middle East strongmen and bogeymen.

@Redtail Swift, that's another problem with the president being too buddy-buddy with certain athletes. He can't swallow his hurt that his pal's team got whupped! Maybe Tom Brady could pull some strings and get a few Tomahawk missiles to take out Philly's stadium? It's empty now in the off season so this would be the time to do it.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Trump took a knee for the duration of the Vietnam War.

Probably took a dump in his pants at the thought of serving his country.

All bark and no bite. Pathetic man.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

This is another losing position that liberals will now fight to the death against just because Trump is for it.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

Trump is friends with Tom Brady. Duh? Nobody remembers this?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I don't really get why the military is involved here. Isn't this about the anthem? Is the military really the pinnacle of patriotism in America? Is that what makes America American?

I feel like the same people who like to shout about all their rights, right to bear arms, right to free speech, also gets completely frenzied in this case, when people use those rights in a way they don't like.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

@FizzBit, that may be your narrow definition of the role of an "athlete / entertainer," but it obviously is not shared by many pro sports players and coaches. Greg Popovich and Steve Kerr are two of the most successful NBA coaches and they regularly and publicly rip into Trump's approach to privately held pro sports teams. Maybe Trump should stay in his lane--you know, government--and try to do the job he is paid to do (which has nothing to do with any sports, including golf).

4 ( +5 / -1 )

bass4funk: "Why? Seriously, who cares?"

You do, obviously, if you're going to switch to college football, as you say. And I love how you ask (once again, when doing a 180), "who cares" and follow with:

"I pay to watch football, not to hear political grandstanding,"

B-b-b-b-but I thought it was, "who cares?"

"They can, stay in the locker if you want to protest, don't have a problem with it, if you want to make a political statement, do it on your own time, not when I play to watch you play"

But I thought it was, "who cares?" Obviously you care very much.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

It’s interesting how so many people take issue with the players who protest but have nothing to say about the injustices that they are protesting against!

its like saying, “shut and entertain us and do you dare bring attention to problems that many people are facing, just act like everything is just fine “

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Seriously, who cares?

Seriously, you and everyone should. What you and other Trump fans don't realize is how he is turning you off the sport, the message, and what the players stand for.

And it's not just sports, he's made it an America vs all other (trade-deficitng) countries

Cons vs libs

Gun holders vs non gun holders (somehow now known as anti gun rights)

us vs them

You should start caring before he breaks the 'American' spirit.

Else there could be another 9/11 like incident and half of the people (63 mil?) would be like " who cares?" Or are we already there?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Maybe the NHL team will meet Trump

Probably, the NHL is comprised of gentlemen. They understand the concept that if you are being paid to do a job, you do it and keep your political feelings off the field/ice.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

@Joe

Why didn’t he stand for the flag when he had bone spurs?

Would you stand for a flag with bone spurs? The pain would be unimaginable. But you wouldn’t know, kid, cos you weren’t there... I’d thank you not to mock the sacrifices made by the mighty band of deferment brothers.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Trump also failed to host the WNBA champs Minnesota Lynx at the White House because their players, like NFL players and most other athletes, are politically conscious middle class citizens who see through his crap. Maybe the NHL team will meet Trump if he pays out a big enough bonus? The probable Stanley Cup champs Washington Capital's captain Ovechkin is Russian. That would be something if only a Russian-led team agreed to meet Trump. @Tex can give us primers on how to say "Bravo Exulted Leader" in Russian.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

not when I play to watch you play

If these guys were kneeling in some protest against Obama, you would be confused, but in the end you wouldn't have a problem.

Trump just made kneeling into another nationalistic kibble to feed his pets.

Now he has alienated a whole city and maybe a lot of fans. Maybe the NFL is the deep state too.

The people who wear a military uniform to defend this great nation of ours are far more deserving of recognition than the people who wear a uniform only to make millions of $$ to throw, catch and chase a football.

Zealot. As if they are mutually exclusive or even comparable. Ask a military person if they would rather serve in the military or the NFL. No brain bucket required.

The so called conservatives on this cite keep reminding us of Trump owning a helicopter and having money as a sign of character while disregarding his constant lies.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

The people who wear a military uniform to defend this great nation of ours are far more deserving of recognition than the people who wear a uniform only to make millions of $$$ to throw, catch and chase a football.

Bravo, President Trump.

-14 ( +3 / -17 )

No surprise that this scoundrel wraps himself in the flag. Why didn't he stand for the flag when he had bone spurs?

Trump took a knee for the duration of the Vietnam War.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Trumps nothing but a draft dodging conman he knows very little about patriotism he will sell his soul to anyone

Northernlife, you know that's not true.

He hasn't got a soul to sell.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

if you want to make a political statement, do it on your own time, not when I play to watch you play

Oh, did their kneeling make you late for your takeoff slot?

Amazing how kneeling is a political statement, yet forcing players to stand is considered not. Bravo America on making a mountain out of a molehill.

I pay to watch football, not to hear political grandstanding

So cut the anthem out completely if you just want to watch football. And their protests were silent, you heard nothing. Seriously, how twisted does a person have to be to get frothy-mouthed over a man kneeling?

11 ( +13 / -2 )

If I were a California football fan, I'd go the college route as well. USC, UCLA etc. seem to win more often than the Rams, Chargers, and 49s. Interesting how East coast teams have mostly dominated the league (though Seattle Seahawks were good for a while) based on my imperfect memory and not following the sport closely.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

No shortage of selling yourself short, eh, bass?

Why? Seriously, who cares?

You'd rather give up something you love because you won't allow others their politics than just ignore the knee thing,

I pay to watch football, not to hear political grandstanding, if I need a headache I'll watch Mika and Joe, if I want to laugh my butt off I'll watch the screaming panel on Brian Stelter.

let them have their rights, and still enjoy the game.

They can, stay in the locker if you want to protest, don't have a problem with it, if you want to make a political statement, do it on your own time, not when I play to watch you play and that is why so many people are turning football off and I have a feeling now that ESPN hired that idiot Keith Olbermann AGAIN, I think for the 6th record time, more people will cut their cable bill.

Says a lot about you... well, moreso than supporting Trump already does.

What, that I don't live in a liberal echo chamber? You got that right!

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

Kawabega may not even know that a veteran gave his blessing to Colin Kaepernick's style of protest and they did their own thing together on the sidelines. So are there any Eagles players surpassing that veteran in their level of protest involvement? The funny pages will be all that people without knowledge of politics and/or sports will be able to handle pretty soon.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

"Disinviting them from the White House only proves that our President is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend,"

Perfectly said! He just forgot to add Trump is also an complete coward.

bass4funk: "Who cares? Time to switch to college Football."

No shortage of selling yourself short, eh, bass? You'd rather give up something you love because you won't allow others their politics than just ignore the knee thing, let them have their rights, and still enjoy the game. Says a lot about you... well, moreso than supporting Trump already does.

@kawabegawa198

Find me ten people currently serving in the US military who support the kneeling players and their cry-baby antics. You couldn't if you tried,

I live and work in Okinawa, and I can tell you that there are plenty that support them! They may not agree with their methods, but they certainly understand why they are in the military and they take their oaths seriously!

You underestimate and insult the intelligence of the men and women who serve the USA if you think differently!

Then again Trump insults them all the time so what should we expect?

13 ( +15 / -2 )

@kawabega198, do active duty military have leeway to express political opinions in the first place? Then you need to search for not ten but just one single Eagles "kneeling player" last season. Since none exist, why would soldiers have an opinion about them not kneeling? By your logic, the Super Bowl winners should be high up on their list of favorite teams. In reality, it's probably some mediocre club like the Cowboys, who you may remember did a locked arms silent solidarity show with team owner Jerry Jones. Which teams are safe for military personnel to support according to you?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

None of the Eagles players knelt during the Anthem last year.

They should all be sacked.

One of the Eagles players did donate his entire season's salary to charity.

By charity, you mean the thugs over at "Black Lives Matter".

-18 ( +3 / -21 )

12 players were going to show up and Trump thinks he's the one cancelling. All he was doing is saving himself the embarrassment of no one showing for his party that he eventually would have just talked about himself anyway.

Couple points to keep in mind:

1) None of the Eagles players knelt during the Anthem last year.

2) One of the Eagles players did donate his entire season's salary to charity.

Just more proof the the "Commander in Chief" of the United States military doesn't understand what the national anthem is all about. By making it into something it isn't he just keeps on showing his stupid ignorance of the country and law! He IS an embarrassment to the country!

The people in the US military defend EVERYONE's rights, and that includes the right of the people in the NFL to protest as they see fit. Their protests are peaceful, and the military defends their right to do so. Anyone who says it's against the military, (like Trump) have ZERO idea what the US, the Constitution, and the national anthem, and what they are all about!

Well, it ain't known as the National Felons League for nothing.

You are right! No one knows it by this name at all!

15 ( +18 / -3 )

Anyone who took a deferment should not be allowed to stand for the anthem. They should kneel before their betters, alleviate the pressure from their bone spurs, and apologize for hating what makes the USA great. Anyone with four-or-more deferments should join the Republican Chickenhawk Party and opine on what is and what is not to be American. Disgusting, the Swamp Monster in Chief and his sycophants. Not a red-blooded American among them. Just more corporate-welfare trash diapering themselves in the American flag.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

This "chip on shoulder" refusing to kneel is ridiculous. Any player refusing to stand should be sacked. Plenty more willing to take their place and show proper respect.

-29 ( +5 / -34 )
