Trump is (rightfully) worrying about a Republican civil war.
I think it has to happen. The majority of the members can't be happy watching Trump destroy both America and the party. Only the extremists can be happy with the direction he is taking.

A bit of a different take - I don't think trump cares about the Republican Party, or whether he destroys America for that matter, but rather that he just wants to win, whatever that means to him.

Frightened of a little popular vote democracy?
Silvafan
Not surprising for the do nuthin' president!
LOL! The laziest president in history!
Deadforgood
He's done if he doesn't start doing his job the way the GOP wants him to. Go on, keep thinking everything is ok.
Silvafan
I agree!

Does this include allowing 'foreign' governments to 'meddle' again? Worked in 2016.
Within the Republican Party Trump might become vulnerable if he
doesn't continue to give tax breaks to the richest,
and if he doesn't continue to push measures weakening environmental, worker and consumer protection, i.e. those measures that benefit the 99.9% and that might slightly reduce the profits of the..01%, i.e. the people the Republican Party has long served.

Uh huh.

Nobody in the GOP will have the guts to put up a challenge. For the past two years, we've seen everyone in the GOP dare not say anything, just remain standing behind the man-child, smiling like a robot. They've either retired, or, even after being called vile names by the man-child, still go on to support him. You listening, lyin' Ted? Not one single person in the GOP with a spine. They'd stab their own mothers in the back if it meant keeping their jobs and keeping Trump happy. I'm sure the Dems are secretly laughing.
Strangerland
Well, I think that describes most of the Republican party these days. They have all sold their souls for the power that a Trump presidency bought them. They are more concerned with power than with the people.

An unpopular leader in any other party would have had a challenger.
But the GOP lost its spine a long time ago, so dont expect any surprises.

Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
Matthew 10:34-35, quoting the words of Donald J. Christ, Lord and Savior of the Republican Party

Shut down challengers, change the rules? Trump has learned well from his friends, Mr. Putin and Mr. Kim. And from his enemies, Mr. Maduro and Mrs. Clinton (re: Bernie Sanders).

whats the bet Trump declares a confected "national emergency" at some point and suspends the 2020 elections?
bass4funk
Pretty much.
Blacklabel
Nope. Trump wins easily.
Blacklabel
Why? Because it’s a waste of money for the RNC. They aren’t funded by Trump like the DNC was by their “preferred candidate”.
