Tokyo-Engr: I do not understand why people feel the need to do this (engage in personal attacks toward each other). Maybe someone can explain this to me

I can only assume you are talking about my post since I know bass also considers it a personal attack when people question his bullshit.

Imagine that I say I was a fireman on 9/11 and use that as the basis for my argument in some debate. Then a few weeks later I say that I was a fireman in London on 9/11 and I use that as the basis for my argument in the next debate. Now attack my points....but I'm going to use this rule that says you aren't allowed to question my employment because you are just personally attacking me and my job.

It's a fun little loophole that BS artists try to exploit on JT. Some have used it more than others, let's just say.

What term comes to mind when it comes to Hillary Clinton...

No fan of Hillary here. It doesn't have to be one or the other. I was addressing the weird remark that Trumps kids seem to have turned out very well. The boys at least obviously haven't.

You're addressing a Trump fan. No distortion is impossible.

Just takin' the opportunity to poke a virtual stick at the lad who tells us most of his family live in one place, half of them live in another, he himself grew up in the US and Europe, lives simultaneously in Japan and California and now spends most of his summers in Reno...and then tells us, liberals are so bad at math. Gotta luv him.

I'm beginning to think his ...gems... must be the result of chronic jet-lag.

I see there are plenty of ad hominem attacks floating around - I would be more interested in hearing more about what the people bickering at each other think. I do not understand why people feel the need to do this (engage in personal attacks toward each other). Maybe someone can explain this to me.

Tuesday will be an interesting day and regardless of who wins the country will continue to be divided or become increasingly divided as I do not think either of the candidates is capable of uniting "the other side". Both candidates seem to be campaigning very hard and I think everyone realizes this is election is going to be close and in the end the losing side is going to be unhappy. If Ms. Clinton, the most qualified candidate of the two, wins then she will start her administration scandal ridden

The thought of a Trump presidency scares the heck out of me. On the other hand Ms. Clinton having her maid handle, print, and deliver classified documents is truly a criminal act. If I had done this with classified information I would have been prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Also taking money from Qutar and Saudi Arabia in what seems to be a "pay to play" type of arrangement.

I am sure I will receive down votes from supporters of both Mr. Trump and Ms. Clinton.

As an American living overseas the U.S. election this year is an embarrassment from the primaries to the end.

Republicans talking about size of their genitals Democrats obviously railroading out Bernie Sanders and chairwoman of DNC having to resign Trump's inability to control his temper and ridiculous comments showing his unsuitability for office Ms. Clinton's continuous scandals

I am sure the rest of the world would be happy to see Ms. Clinton win as she would be a continuation of the status quo and will not disrupt the comfort zone of the global elite. Trump is quite unpredictable and probably scares the heck out of people ( a sentiment I fully understand)

The American political system is broken. We have politicians (on BOTH sides) starting with nothing and becoming very rich - while only being a politician (for the democrats that always say "our side does not do this" think Harry Reid)

The system is rigged (not against Trump or Hillary) but against the average citizen and I think alot of Americans are waking up to this which will make for some interesting times in the next decade or two.

I don't think you ever heard of a large family, right? That just could be the reason.

Or it could just be that you engage your typing fingers before you engage your brain.

It doesn't matter how large or small your family is. If most of them live in Nevada, it's mathematically impossible for half of them to live in Europe.

@Super

I don't think you ever heard of a large family, right? That just could be the reason. Again, nice try.

Hillary's maid was handling classified information for her and was never interviewed by the FBI. No repercussions for wrongdoing if you are well-connected. America is becoming a lawless joke.

I didn't hear about this, but I'm not surprised at anything anymore with the Dems and this election.

It seems as though the next president is going to be Hugo Chavez.

Makes Obama almost look like a decent president. But as you say, if she is elected, the country is pretty much finished.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

The FBI just cleared Clinton, totally innocent of any criminal charges.

What term comes to mind when it comes to Hillary Clinton taking millions of dollars from countries that prosecute women who have been raped and kill gays, and gets off poor Haitians ?

If Clinton is elected, with all her issues she's as broken as a boxspring in a porn film.

As the charts in my link show, unemployment in Nevada rose sharply after the crash in 2008 (as one would expect) and eventually began dropping again in late 2010. It has been dropping ever since, apart from a very small rise (followed immediately by a fall) in 2016.

bass: What a bunch of bull!

I'm just not sure why you would say that for something so easily verifiable. Crime has been steadily dropping in the state for over half a decade. Let's move on.

bass: "Most of my family live in Nevada"

OK.

"Yes, half of my family lives in Europe."

OK.

"I have family [in Texas]"

OK.

"And as a native Californian, grew up in LA"

OK.

half of my life raised in Europe

OK.

"Half of my family come from the South"

OK.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Not even a shred of evidence that Trump groped women.

Doesn't mean because he said it, he did it. There is no court in the country or no lawyer in their right mind would take on a case like that unless there is substantial and physical verifiable evidence, you'd get laughed out of the court. So if you want to believe he did, then that is your personal opinion, but to concretely say beyond a shadow of a doubt he did and cannot prove it makes anyone look like a fool.

Yeah, um, it doesn't really work like that.

You don't get it, I understand, usually libs that have a lot of emotions invested in this candidate and the president wouldn't.

What a bunch of bull! My family is from Vegas, I spend most of my summers there, I know liberals want, pray and hope Nevada to be something that it's not.

Let's not move the goalposts again, Bass. Your claim was that unemployment rate is off the charts in Nevada. For African Americans, it is higher than the national average. African American unemployment rates are and have historically been higher than the national average. But both the African American unemployment rates, national unemployment rates, and Nevada unemployment rates are lower than when Obama took office.

Yeah, tell that to the majority of African Americans that are not coming out in big numbers to support Hillary. As a whole, Blacks have suffered the most under this president. If they were so enthusiastic about Hillary, she wouldn't need Obama or Michelle to go around campaigning and trying to spread some of his wonderful glitter magic to entice the people to vote for her. It's not happening.

At any rate its nonsensical to try and claim that the Nevada economy is in the gutter, because of the high unemployment rate amongst African Americans when African Americans make up 8.1% of all Nevadans.

This is why liberals are so bad at math, for the ratio of that number Blacks are at a huge disadvantage and in a worse social economical situation. For their small ratio and to have a 13.5% unemployment rate is just insane! And what have the Democrats and loudmouth Harry Reid done for the people of Nevada? Not a darn thing! Thank God the man is retiring it's a good year, Obama and Reid will be gone and if anything, that's something great to really smile about.

If you have tp use a half a decade old article to prove your claim, you have no claim to make.

Then libs don't need to worry about what Trump allegedly did 30 years ago, if we go by that argument.

Think whatever you want. As someone who has been caught plagiarizing and using old economic data to bolster their arguments, I couldn't care less. You just discredit yourself.

I feel the exact opposite about a lot of libs on here as well. I'm glad we agree to disagree.

From everything I have read, Trumps kids seem to have turned out very well.

Posing holding up a leopard they have killed for the fun of it. And an elephant. And a buffalo. And a water buck. And a crocodile. Looking pleased and proud of themselves. Not my idea of turning out well. The term filthy psychopath comes to mind.

Both forgot Other minorities. Then poll scientist monkey found black people have 92% Hillary. and when added, Hillary will win. But Trump did not give up. He went Reno. Bill was in Clark County. Then we heard Hillary will be in Clark County. More footers than North beside eeexcellent food.

Do men you know talk about sexually assaulting women or mock disabled people quietly?

I wouldn't put up with it myself. Which may be why men I know don't talk about/do these things around me. But I prefer to think it's because I don't associate with sleazebag douches.

It's ok, you believe the stats, I'll believe my eyes and the other stats.

Your link, by the way, is from June 2010, when unemployment in the state was around its peak, and higher than it's been at any time in the last 40 years. Do you feel that yours is a more honest way to present the picture - just taking one point in the last few years instead of looking at a wider timespan? And then totally ignoring the drop in unemployment that happened in the following six years, and that represents the situation now?

http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-politics-economic-anxiety-20160219-story.html

From earlier this year. No, I'm not ignoring anything.

Saying that unemployment is off the charts is a flat-out lie.

Ok, it's better for Whites than Blacks.

Roll on Tuesday.

First, lifting a fictitious book and claiming it as fact, and now you "bolster" your argument with an article on unemployment?

...all 3 branches...

Ha. He said it again. Some have written about Trump's seeming inability to distinguish between what appears to be reality in his mind at the moment he utters and objective, more permanent reality that most perceive. A corollary of this is that Trump is unable to learn from his mistakes - this requires some minimal understanding of objective reality sufficient to grasp that the phantasm flashing in one's mind and immediately verbalized does not actually exist. It's like a three-year old caught with a half-eaten cookie in his mouth verbally willing that he did not in fact eat the cookie: to believe it and verbalize it is sufficient.

Of course, most three-year olds grow out of this. Others do not.

It's been fun watching Hillary's poll numbers plummet to a virtual tie with Trump, with Trump up by 3 points or more in some polls, though those polls must be bogus, lol. And we still got 2 more days of WikiLeaks with more damaging info on the Clinton Foundation, etc.

I have to shake my head at the Hillary supporters here who simply refuse to acknowledge that she is the most corrupt candidate in history who, if elected, would be the first president-elect under FBI criminal investigation and most likely indicted for her crimes.

The only hope the USA has is ending the GOP toxic rule of the Senate and House. Only a complete collapse can end their tyranny. The very tyranny the witless are fighting against. Only the people of the USA fear their government and think it some outside power, not people they elect to office. Many alternate realities must come to an end, and the "right-wing" of the USA is one of them. Hate TV, hate radio, hate posting Internet trolls. All of it.

What a joke! When Obama became president the Democrats controlled all 3 branches and what did they do? They went on a mad spending spree, pushing the debt higher, instituting Obamacare and more taxes and pushing up the debt which was one of the main reasons for forming the Tea Party. As a result of Democrats throwing us into debt and being relentless on the spending they lost the House in 2010 and finally the Senate in 2014, giving the Dems all 3 branches again would result in another disastrous Democrat drunken spending spree. They should never control the purse! Democrats have never been good with money, we're already printing too much of it and we can't even pay any of it back and the Dems think they deserve to control the House and Senate? Unbelievable these people!

Yes yes of course it is.

The only thing Trump flips is his hair piece and his positions. HRC 2016 ! 1/20/17 - "Madame President" !

It's been pretty fun watching all the flip-flopping by the GOP today. FOX has had to admit that it lied in saying Clinton will be indicted (and Trump and co going on to keep suggesting it anyway, because they're morons); and of course senile Giuliani saying he didn't know about the investigation despite bragging about knowing about it and saying a week ago (something big is coming next week) once it became clear an investigation into the release of the documents would occur. Giuliani needs to be locked up in a home for people with senile dementia. The guy is a worse liar than Trump himself.

Notice how Hillary had to be dragged left by Bernie. Therefore there is room for another party to the left of the Democrats and that would be a USA worth supporting. If the Democrats are the furthest right the USA goes that would be a start.

If they had ranked ballots during all elections local state federal especially primaries misogynists like Trump and his ilk would never get to office. Most political parties around the world do this with great success. Majority of people are not right wing hence the liberal democracies of the world.

Oh, and join the Metric system for Pete's sake

Even with a Clinton victory it's clear the USA's direction is toward insignificance with a drag on the world economy. The vacuum left by its cratering will only embolden its enemies. Otherwise Japan and other countries wouldn't be interested in China and Russia

Don't go jumped the gun and give a bias opinion.

Don't worry, I won't.

As you said about Obama being a Muslim, anything is possible.

In Obama's case, that's very true.

Not at all, just stating a sad fact.

At attempting to use political humor???.

So the republicans first claim it was a democrat with a gun.

I doubt it was a conservative wanting to do this, they may RUN AWAY and stay home, but this, it just smells like another Democratic wing nut trying to take up some crazy progressive cause if that's the case.

Nope, no democrat, no gun. Change tack - now it's a democratic plot.

Anything is possible, from the Wikileaks, I ain't putting absolutely not.

Yeah right. Just like the vote is rigged, right?

The right is falling apart.

If the right is falling apart, then the left is going through internal anarchy, but as far as the rigging is concerned, we shall see, it judging by the history, if there will be some of that going on, I'll bet a thousand bucks it'll come from the Dems side as usual.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Bush 1 is voting Hillary. Next you'll be calling him a democrat in disguise.

Do you have a more than likely explanation of the guy roaring anti-Semitic filth at a Trump rally?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

So the republicans first claim it was a democrat with a gun. Nope, no democrat, no gun. Change tack - now it's a democratic plot.

Yeah right. Just like the vote is rigged, right?

So the guy in Reno turned out to have a protest sign. Here's his quote from an article on Sky News.

The ploy was more than likely a set up from the outside group so that the perp came up to the front with an accomplice (paid Heckler/Clinton voter) who shouted “He’s got a gun!” and ran out of the building. They wanted to create a story that a guy held up an anti-Trump sign and got beat up by the crowd. I expect that is how the US media will report it.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

"Republicans against Trump" said the sign he was holding. It has started - the splintering of the right.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Don't worry, Tokyo-Engr, it was just a little dig at the hypocrisy of the right-wing pro-gun types who go all blustery and self-righteous when they think someone might actually have a gun and might use it. As it turned out there was no gun, but the reaction was the same.

I've never heard it as being accepted that a political rally is swarming with heavily armed people. Where did this information come from?

Lookit the photos on the link I posted. Crawling with heavily-armed military types you'd expect to see in a volatile war zone, not a supposedly democratic (with a small d, of course) political rally in the self-styled leader of the free world; and no one bats an eyelid. Dear otherworldly even tells us it's ridiculous to expect anything else.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

So the guy in Reno turned out to have a protest sign. Here's his quote from an article on Sky News.

"I just came with a sign, I literally had one sign that said 'Republicans against Trump'."

The protester marched from the back of the room to within 10 feet of Trump with a gun. What more do you need? Ignorance is bliss.

Obviously exercising his Sacred Second Amendment Rights. Why should a person carrying a gun cause any consternation? Isn't it what all true red-blooded Merkns are supposed to do?

Ignorance is bliss.

I admit, hypocrisy can be quite difficult to spell, especially for them wot will not see. In the meantime, I live happy in my blissful ignorance of what it must be like to live in a country where it's accepted and considered common sense for a political rally to be swarming with heavily-armed military types.

Care to explain why someone was led away in handcuffs?

Because the cops didn't see any need to shoot first ask questions later, so he was able to walk and didn't have to be carried out in a body bag?

I see this election like this.

America has a sickness (economy, gun control, immigration, etc) and it had options in picking out the cure.

They had 3 bottles of cures.

Clinton- Slow and Painful poison. Brand Name. Trump- Agony, Self-destructive, poison. Brand Name. Sanders- Cure but will take time. Store name.

America voted with the brand name because they recognize the brand despite knowing how toxic it is. Now they're left with two poisons and have to pick one.

Could have done a lot better with Sanders...A LOT better.

Re: Reno "assassination" attempt

"Secret Service rushed Trump offstage after hearing a man in the crowd might have a weapon, which later turned out to be a sign. Officers took the man out of the immediate area, where he was later released. Secret Service said in a statement the investigation was ongoing."

Secret Service weren't told about the scam ahead of time?

I presume because the first duty of any LEO including the Secret Service in this situation is to remove the potential threat from their target. That means probably a brief cursory search immediately when he's apprehended and then hand-cuffing him while he's taken elsewhere to be more thoroughly searched.

Alternatively, this doesn't even need to be a scam. It could just be some idiot Trump-fan mistakenly thinking there's a gun when there isn't and then the Orange Carnival Barker milking it for all he can get.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

So.. the people who are like guns yeeee haaa pewww pewww, open carry, more guns, get all nervous when someone possibly might have a gun, amusing.

Don't go jumped the gun and give a bias opinion.

As you said about Obama being a Muslim, anything is possible.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

No evidence of a gun, obviously staged,

Can your prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

the Donald is just looking out into the audience (yeah sure he'd stand there that bemused if someone had a gun).

And your certain of this because?.....

A trumper starts shouting "He has a gun!" And sure enough, they all start chanting it, just like they do "Build a wall!" And "USA, USA!" A shabbily pulled off stunt to get a sympathy vote.

An attempt at liberal humor?

Don't get me wrong, it could turn out to be an assassination attempt, the idea isn't impossible.

But at the moment there were no shots fired, and no one reported to have actually witnessed a gun.

So at the present moment it looks like it was just group panic. Time will tell.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Hmm, no one saw a gun, and Trump was raced off stage. Hard to call an assassination attempt

Gee, think a political movement whose central tenant is "more guns for more people in more places" would have no problem with a supporter doing exactly that approaching a candidate espousing exactly that.

Cognitive dissonance? Yes. Perhaps conservatives should clarify that there are two rules, one for themselves and another for the plebeians.

LagunaNOV. 06, 2016 - 10:43AM JST To the more analytical types here on JT, let's discuss more in future about the difference between "conservatives" and "alt right."

I'm a second-hand observer of the alt-right, but it's biggest problem as I see it at the moment is it's got no real central identity - it's just a gathering place for everyone who's right-of-center but angry at the GOP status quo. While that's beneficial in the sense that it's more big tent and less ideologically conformist than the GOP, there doesn't seem to be a movement within it to purge the group of their most contemptible racial supremacists and racial nationalists. Which means the direction of the aggregate whole constantly gets distracted by whatever charismatic demagogue can get the most attention. I think that means that though the alt-right isn't necessarily entirely bigoted, within discussion of US politics it's going to inevitably be a bigoted organization in practice as anyone who wants to sway the movement of the group has to court the bigot vote.

News media gave Trump an easy go of it this election cycle, not really paying serious attention to him and letting him leverage their infotainment coverage of him for political gain until his position in the lead of the GOP was unstoppable. Hopefully they won't be so careless in the future. This would mean the way I see it, the alt-right has little hope of becoming a real political player unless they can find within them a figurehead who is charismatic enough to unite and motivate the organization, intelligent enough to get it taken seriously, and courageous enough to stand up to the bigots trying to steer the group in their direction. I see that as incredibly unlikely. So most likely case is they fade into semi-obscurity, becoming a political agitator overly influenced by Russian propaganda, wasting our time with manufactured conspiracy theories but not actually getting much done.

The GOP will then become the party of the ultra-elite, which is likewise politically irrelevant.

But those pictures....Americans are truly happy to live in a country where cops look and act like that on a regular basis? (shudder)

To be fair, if anyone in the country needs a fully-armed contingent of protection right now, it's him... and Hillary. Too many nutters out there.

It would suck if Trump won, but killing him is not the solution, and would likely cause even more problems. The trumpets would bray even louder.

'Trump Reno' brings up reports of him being hustled off stage today by Secret Service men 'after agents noticed an audience member coming towards him'. 'It is unclear whether an attack was about to take place', says the report.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Wow, unbelievable, people are losing their minds, this is beyond disbelief. Now, I would be just as appalled if someone did the same to Hillary. Regardless you like Trump or dislike him or like Hillary or hate her, it doesn't give ANYONE the right to try and physically harm someone!

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Nevada is the Anaheim of states: unionized service workers, many of them Hispanic. The very suggestion it will go red is hilarious.

More important is the undertone of racism Trump has allowed to be unleashed in this campaign. His current wife has now been shown to have worked illegally in the US before she got her papers in order. I have no problem with that - her intent was clear, and who among us expats are guiltless of this? The difference is simply her skin color. If she were a of a darker heritage, alt right types would be calling for her ... uh, skin?

To the more analytical types here on JT, let's discuss more in future about the difference between "conservatives" and "alt right." This will be of great importance in understanding the hows and whys of the impending Republican Party implosion.

I agree with the article from the economist.. have you read it? It suggests that apart form the Senate, it is all going well for the Democrats. Maybe you included the wrong article? It is Sunday morning after all...

Actually, No, I did not. Most of my family live in Nevada and the unemployment rate is off the charts, in the Real Clear politics, having some of the most accumulative polling out there at this point and time shows Trump by a leading. Now I don't know about you, but there is a massive exodus in that State, takes, crime, it's off the charts. Harry Reid completely ruined that State. I think there are a lot more Trump supporters then what the polls actually reflect.

Now back to my Honey nut shredded wheat.
