poses a danger "to democracy and human life."

Trump has clearly shown he does pose a danger to democracy (see his failed attempts to steal the election while undermining faith in voting and elections) and human life (see Trump's failed, deadly coup attempt).

However, Trump, the global alt right and others in anti-democracy, pro-authoritarian movements, including nations like China, Russia, Turkey and Iran will continue to have access to Facebook and an array of other media where they can continue to push their propaganda.

Why not use Parler? Or Tiktok, bust out that double fist pumpin’ YMCA move.

Doesn’t China and NK and others ban political opposition?

Lol Twitter banned Trump, not the government. There is no government impetus to Donald shouting his message from the street corner outside the local Walmart, like the bum he is.

75% of Republicans believe The Big Lie that Trump promoted through platforms like Facebook and Twitter. This directly helped create the mob that tried to overturn a legitimate election and killed people.

Oh, please! You can make the same equivalency of liberals that believed the Russian hoax and believed that Trump was compromised and should be removed. Second, the moment the riots started last year that claimed almost 30 lives none of the Dems could be found denouncing any of it and when the left came out, they made excuses for the violence as a peaceful protest, you just can't even make this garbage up.

In all protests last year 15-20 people died

No, not according to the FBI records, I really could care less what Don Lemon is trying to force-feed people

Biden spoke against the violence.

After his poll numbers were starting to slip, not constantly, consistently, didn't support Trump when he wanted to use the National Guard to quell the unrest, but supported it to protect the Capitol when the Democrats lives were as they called it, in danger.

In a May 31 post on his blog shortly after George Floyd’s death, he wrote, “Protesting such brutality is right and necessary.

Protesting, yes, rioting, looting, attacking and injuring police officers, absolutely not. No excuse!

It’s beyond hilarious how conservatives love the free market until it bites them, then, suddenly, they are all about regulation.

The Dems are for regulations as long as it doesn't apply to them, then for some reason they hate it and are against it. Smh.....

I don’t think we need to worry about donald’s Facebook account, they don’t allow prisoners Social Media access.

that Facebook is acting unethically.

Since when do republicans care about companies acting "ethically"? If you're a true capitalist, you can't be for forcing companies to act "ethically" according to your opinion, it's antinomic. Facebook is realizing Trump is ultimately hurting their revenue stream and could very well decide to ban him to make more money. Are you against the right of companies to make money? I'm shocked and appaled.

Any examples? I won’t hold my breath.

Yeah, don't, but regulating banks, taxing people and especially the middle class into oblivion, taking away tax incentives for small businesses, the list goes on. Now how the Dems want to support small businesses is just bizarre to me, but they think they can. Sure.....

This is exactly how Kim and Xi would respond to challenges to their ideology

By trying to force private companies to do exactly what they say. You can be pretty sure absolutely noone in China is allowed to ban Xi from it's network. Fortunately, America is still a democracy, so private companies are free to ban whomever they want!

What a classic example of the upside-down turn of the Repub Party...

Once the defender of private business and free enterprise, unencumbered by government interference...

They now want government to force a private company to admit someone that violated this company's own rules and standards...

Forget fiscal discipline, forget free trade, forget family values - the GOP is now the GQP...

Republicans are terrified that their main channels for spreading disinformation will be taken away from them. How can they dupe their base into believe the next Big Lie without Twitter?

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Super spreader of false information and lies would put a child in permanent time out. That's what Trump is experiencing.

People seem to want to make that false equivalence of free speech vs lying in the guise of free speech.

Good on anyone who doesn't allow the lies and bs from Trump.

75% of Republicans believe The Big Lie that Trump promoted

I love how it’s referred to as the “big lie”.

Well, it is big and it is a lie. Not exactly imaginative, but it is accurate.

Any other suggestions? ‘The large alternative fact’?

When he's wearing that striped suit in Leavenworth, would he even be allowed access to social media?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

First of all The Big Lie is real. There was no wide spread systemic voter fraud. The Federal official in charge said that the 2020 election was the most secure in modern history.

Second, Russian interference was not a hoax. A bi-partisan Senate commission determined that the Russians sought to influence the 2016 election through a systemic, pervasive discrimination campaign. A claim backed up by the intelligence community and Facebook contractors.

Trump incited an insurrection and should be banned from all social media.

I realize it may be a moot point as he is going to prison and will be cut off from society.

They’re abusing a loophole in the law.

So let's say Congress repeals Section 230 and the President sign the resulting legislation. Do you think that suddenly social media will let all and sundry post up anything they want. Free speech, woo-hoo! Really? Think about it. Section 230 prevents someone or some company for suing the host service for something someone posted on a discussion board. Right now I can post such and such company is crooked and that company cannot sue Google or Facebook or what have you for my posting that on their discussion board. If that protection is removed by repealing or even significantly weakening Section 230, social media companies will remove anything that is even remotely offensive or controversial. In fact some social media will disappear altogether as the risk won't be worth it for them, nor will the labor requires to moderate posts adequately. Repealing Section 230 will pretty much be the end of any kind of free wheeling discussion. Honestly I don't care if it happens and if it is repealed the politicians will have no one to blame but themselves when they find they cannot post anything anymore for fear of being sued.

Can you explain what 'free speech' in your country would include? 79million now according to Qanon/RT/AlJazeera?

Qanon, Yeah, I wouldn't disagree, RT and AlJazeera, definitely wasn't the conservative media that brought them to the US. I hope Facebook blocks all of the radical far-left groups, but I won't hold my breath.
