Yeah, snowing in DC today. Very cold tomorrow

Fitting that Trump would be inaugurated on a cold day in hell.

Fitting that Trump would be inaugurated on a cold day in hell.

Every inaugural day has been cold, all of them.

You checked that?

3 ( +11 / -8 )

It doesn't matter how many show up for the inauguration. It only matters how many showed up to vote.

-5 ( +8 / -13 )

You checked that?

Yes, it's called archives.

-6 ( +12 / -18 )

Every inaugural day has been cold, all of them.

Much as I despise Trump and everything he stands for (and I love the optics of his voters, who he couldn't care less about, being literally left out in the cold while the millionaire tech bros get to go inside...if that's not the perfect symbolism for the US right now, nothing is) , if we look at it rationally it makes sense to go indoors if it's going to be that cold. Reason being, Trump is old.

Last time it was indoors was for Reagan's second, and it was even colder than what's predicted for this one. At the time, Reagan was 73. Trump's 78.

He does seem to have regrettably impressive genes in terms of longevity, but at nearly 80, who knows what kind of effect that level of cold could have.

If he did a Harrison and went and got pneumonia and died, that would put Vance in charge, and then project 2025 would be off to the races with no brakes to apply.

Perfect example of raincloud-silver lining.

Last time it was indoors was for Reagan's second, and it was even colder than what's predicted for this one. At the time, Reagan was 73. Trump's 78.

One thing they both share is being shot at.

Maybe that contributed to the decision to do it indoors.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

It's going to be an interesting couple of years.

Trump will have to live up to his promise of closing the boarder. It's possible he'll do nothing and just say that he closed the boarder, and that will be enough for many of his followers.

The economy of likely to remain as strong - as typically happens, Democrats hand over booming economies, but he won't bring prices down. And if he imposes tariffs, prices will increase further.

And after a couple of years, he will lose his majority in both houses, and still likely loose interest in the whole thing anyway, and pay golf.

The economy will worsen and then a Democrat will be elected and be handed an economy in recession, as always happens.

6 ( +15 / -9 )

Trump has already enriched the bank accounts of thousands of Americans by launching a crypto meme coin that shot up to 60 billion in one day.

Monday's inauguration, all focus attention will be on Donald Trump.

However, I suggest the 'Beware the Ides of March' a soothsayer warned Julius Caesar that his life is in danger has an irony,

I suggest Donald Trump has a "demon" sitting on his shoulder.

The Hill Chris Truax, opinion contributor wrote a interesting if not a tad shrill piece

Donald Trump is dangerous; JD Vance is much worse

https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/4934760-jd-vance-trump-presidency-threat/

Trump’s running mate is intelligent, articulate and, as a Yale-trained lawyer, he doesn’t just shoot his mouth off. He knows exactly what he’s saying, and why. In short, you can take everything Vance says both literally and seriously.

J D Vance is a clever deceiver

Who is J.D. Vance? How the former anti-Donald Trump author became the right hand of the incoming president

The incoming U.S. vice-president is a far cry from the man who once compared Trump to “America’s Hitler.”

The return of the golden age of America.

-11 ( +12 / -23 )

"A brand new day".

Did he get Sting's approval to use this phrase?

Got my serious doubts.

And it will be a brand new day in the dark ages with all the concepts Donald and buddies have!

Besides:

"Tomorrow, at noon, the curtain closes on four long years of American decline, and we begin a brand new day of American strength, prosperity, dignity and pride,"

He will inherit a US economy in the up-swing, looking better than during his past reign!

The US has always been strong, without instigators, dividers, insulters like that con-man!

The GDP increased by 3.1% in the third quarter of 2024. Expect it to go below 1% with Donald.

Dignity? Does he even know how to spell that word? Got my serious doubts.

Will Trump restore civil liberties, human rights, and personal freedoms?

10 ( +16 / -6 )

He’ll get nothing done and blame someone else for it again. There’ll be some shutdowns again. The deficit will widen. Then musical chairs and you can get angry about ‘woke’ something and blame someone else for your problems all over again.

Again, Trump will increase the National Debt by $7 trillion or more

Any talk of increasing the debt is now suspended by fiscal conservatives.

It seems to depend on who’s increasing the debt rather than the debt itself.

It’s very interesting.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Just remember, people. Trump is only in it for himself. He doesn't care about you, unless you've got something he needs.

Let me put this in simple terms for plastic.

2016, Trump elected, my savings and investments thrive

Biden elected, savings and investments go down the toilet

2024, just a hunch but I bet my pocketbook is going to be doing much better. He can be in it for himself while benefiting the everyday American at the same time. If you do not believe so, perhaps you have financial issues and require bailing out from the government.

-10 ( +6 / -16 )

My stocks are hedged for the brand new day.

I bet on the private prison stocks in the weeks before the election and now I am making bank!

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

He’ll get nothing done and blame someone else for it again.

Just a thought but perhaps there should be a system whereby election pledges and promises are each given a value in votes and any promises and pledges which are not kept should reduce the number of votes given to that candidate at the election. If the subsequent recount results in the winning party losing its majority then the original second place party should take over, new government and new president.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

"Brand new day!"

it will definitely be a brand new day for all the US tech workers who will get their "you're fired" notices...

And all the immigrant Chinese and Indians who will replace them - at lower wages...

More immigrants moving into our neighborhoods and having more children...

Trump and Musk doing their best to refute the racist "Great Replacement Theory"...

Just what you voted for, right MAGA-friends?

9 ( +13 / -4 )

Trump saluted...

That must irritate many US military personnel, past and present, given Trump's avoidance of military service due to cowardice.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Yes. I have no doubt a new era of American prosperity will be ushered in - for the rich. Trump's policies will result in higher inflation and interest rates hitting the poor. Meanwhile the rich will benifit from continued tax cuts, higher stock prices and returns. Yes. It will be great for some.

He is all yours , you conjured him, emboldened him with your attacks on his patriotic supporters and lawfare, your double standards, your open borders, your lack of coherent core values and principals all paved the way; the flirtations with divisive identity politics, obsessions with race ,sexual preferences, grievance politics, reparations and equity blinding you to the enemies of the free world gathering on the horizon, and from all this self created chaos and grandiose delusional-level hypocrisy DJT rose and triumphed. The Democrat party now in tatters, a sorry beaten down deflated shadow of its former glorious self. Delegitimized , broken and bitter. What did Trump do on Day 1 the last time? He and his rich buds went immediately to work on a "huuuuge" tax break for the Top 1% - all unfunded that added $7.2 trillion to the debt.

The border and crime all went on the back burner...if not thrown in the trash....did you get your "wall" that he promised? Did Mexico pay for it?

Now we get another "huuuuge" FLOP on immigration and Tik-Tock....BOTH after a bunch of rich dudes got together and told Trump what to do, if he wants to continue getting those million dollar donations...

Trump will do whatever his rich oligarchs want - just like his "mentor" in the Kremlin...

Well said, Ricky. Trump's victory is partly a product of the rabid hatred spewed by "liberals" over the past few years. And now that he's in power, they're even angrier, shriller, than before if that were even possible. They can't stand the fact that they lost fair and square, but won't accept their partial responsibility for it as they never do.

Indeed - tone down the criticism, up the praise, and tell him you'll donate tens of millions of dollars to him if he takes up your positions and policies...

Musk, Vivek, and Yass proved it works...

Trump will be more "woke" than Biden and Obama combined with a couple of George Soros multi-million dollar donations...

Let's get to work guaranteeing a woman's reproductive freedom, LBGTQ fairness laws, and strict gun control...

it's all within our grasp, with a few million in donations...

What makes you think he doesn't? He thinks they should have the same legal rights as everyone, no less, no more. Same with me. What's the big deal? Neither he nor I support DEI, where people are employed or promoted beyond their competence simply because they're of a certain sexuality/race/nationality, etc. Do you think they should get special treatment?

Inflated with unprecedented amounts of money printing, with most of it going to banks and other institutional investors. Meanwhile more and more Americans were finding life getting tougher with rising living costs.

Good! Reversals of the left implementations and other decisions that will benefit the U. You’d think that Americans at this point would be cheering for its success instead of doing and saying everything and anything to try to have him fail. Let the man work. If he does a bad job, he’ll be voted out. If Biden was successful and everything was going really well and the party was doing what the average American wants the Dems would still be in office. Some more facts;

"The S&P 500, the gold-standard market index of 500 US stocks, has posted a compound annual growth rate of 14.1% from Biden’s November 2020 election through Thursday’s closing bell, according to veteran market strategist Sam Stovall of CFRA Research. The market returns under Biden are the second best in modern history going back to 1945, Stovall found. The only stronger performance was during the booming dotcom days under former President Bill Clinton during the 1990s."

"The S&P 500 enjoyed a compound annual growth rate of 12.1% from Trump’s surprise election in November 2016 through Biden’s 2020 victory".
