Good. His lawyer went to jail over this, and so should be. No one should be above the law.

50 ( +64 / -14 )

Lock him up.

57 ( +70 / -13 )

Good. Lets hope he gets banged up good and proper. The havocked he reaped and the embarrassment he has caused our American cousins is well... embarrassing.

41 ( +53 / -12 )

Trump’s all washed up as far as winning a general election is concerned.

37 ( +48 / -11 )

Meh, people have sexual relations with other people all the time. This might even help him with his election chances because it paints the Dems as vindictive, self serving, politically driven and corrupt. Republicans on the other hand, only have to keep their mouth shut to convey they're about the people and the country.

-39 ( +17 / -56 )

No one is above the law.

32 ( +40 / -8 )

Everyone: "the walls are closing in on Donald Trump"

MAGA nuts: "You've been saying that for seven years. ROFL. No chance they'll ever bring charges against him."

22 ( +29 / -7 )

Meh, people have sexual relations with other people all the time.

But not many people make hush money payments a decade later in the middle of the presidential campaign to keep their wife from "finding out."

This might even help him with his election chances because it paints the Dems as vindictive, self serving, politically driven and corrupt.

Right, because what voters are worried about isn't the economy or crime, it's Trump being treated fairly. Lol

The same thing was said about his impeachment, and it didn't help. He still lost, and even if it did help him, that doesn't mean he shouldn't be prosecuted. What kind of message would that send?

22 ( +31 / -9 )

Trump, a divisive figure in U.S. politics with support particularly among white blue-collar and conservative Christian voters, served as president from 2017 to 2021, governing as a right-wing populist.

The danger of populists like Trump is that they encourage the working class to vote against their best economic interests and align with the interests of billionaires.

So more corporate tax breaks, deregulation, and scapegoating of minorities.

All of which is useless for the working class but the cultish, irrational appeal is strong.

29 ( +37 / -8 )

So it finally happened. Hopefully the first of many. This will send a clear message that you can't live your life as a cheat. Shocking that he made it to his age without being held accountable.

28 ( +35 / -7 )

Trump is finished, but he sure was entertaining. Thank you America!

17 ( +27 / -10 )

The US is far from perfect and we still have such a long way to go, but we are a nation of laws. He will get his day(s) in court, just like everyone else.

17 ( +21 / -4 )

Meh, people have sexual relations with other people all the time. This might even help him with his election chances...

This is the hot off the press spin from Trump's wing of the media.

Firstly, there's no charges for paying a woman for sex. The charges are going to be the same as those that Michael Cohen was convicted for when acting as Trump's proxy. And also for using election campaign funds to pay her off.

The idea that this is going to materially improve his election charges is laughable. Outside of his personality cult, who have already made up their minds that he is innocent, it will not generate new votes.

22 ( +28 / -6 )

I am so happy to hear this. I only hope that other charges are brought against this amazingly freakish thing.

18 ( +26 / -8 )

hookers on wall street

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Meh, people have sexual relations with other people all the time. This might even help him with his election chances

Okay. What about the other four indictments coming down the pike? If you live like a mob boss you should expect to be treated like one.

18 ( +25 / -7 )

Can't wait to see the insurrectionist do the perp walk

16 ( +24 / -8 )

I think I might have a beer tonight.

14 ( +24 / -10 )

The Georgia investigation is the main course. This is just the appetizer.

Equal justice under law.

23 ( +31 / -8 )

Trump for Rikers Island 2023

16 ( +22 / -6 )

If you demand someone pay you a large sum of money in exchange for not revealing a prior sexual relationship, isn't that extortion? So okay, if Trump broke the law, then let him be penalized. But I'm uncomfortable with "Stormy" getting away scott free. It took two to tango.

-15 ( +10 / -25 )

Where are all the Trump supporters?

8 ( +16 / -8 )

The first time in American history that a current or former president has faced criminal charges. WOW! BUT this ain’t over yet…; the orange clown will keep sowing division…; millions of people in the US are (still) full of ignorance and hate and he (still) wants to take advantage of that. BUT yes, this is BIG… huuuge(!)

8 ( +15 / -7 )

money in exchange for not revealing a prior sexual relationship, isn't that extortion?

...exactly! Conspiring with an extortionist to pursue a political foe. Blind Freddy can see it's got nothing to do with 'laws'.

-16 ( +4 / -20 )

The bumbling idiot DA actually did it, unbelievable. Welcome to the re-election of Trump as president.

last week: Trump lied that there is the plan to indict him!

this week: indictment!

Yeah, ok.

-37 ( +8 / -45 )

Where are all the Trump supporters?

The NPCs are probably waiting for their scripts to be written.

...exactly! Conspiring with an extortionist to pursue a political foe. Blind Freddy can see it's got nothing to do with 'laws'.

lol Nope. What did Michael Cohen go to jail for? Why should the president's lawyer go to jail over this but not Trump?

11 ( +17 / -6 )

The bumbling idiot DA actually did it, unbelievable. Welcome to the re-election of Trump as president.

lol So much cope. This is exactly what the right said about the impeachments. No one cares about "poor Donald" being treated unfairly. Apparently you think some people should be above the law.

14 ( +21 / -7 )

Finally the mandarin Mussolini will get what he deserves.

16 ( +23 / -7 )

As said above, he will still attract the votes of the Bible Thumping / Gun Toting, American working /middle class (as in an awful lot of them).

Indicted is one thing, will this actually make it to Court? Like Stormy Daniels, he can sadly probably buy his way out of this too, and still go on to win the election next year.

I think we have to wait until 2028 for some kind of reset in the States. Until then, expect more chaos, more shootings, more inner city violence and a further erosion of Americas standing in the world.

Shame. Before 2016 I used to visit the USA alot, but I've never seen a country where one man has managed to destroy friendships, communities, promote violence as a primary mean to settle a dispute and live above the law AND carry half the countries support. Guess you have to be American to understand.

14 ( +19 / -5 )

Excellent. Emboldens support for Trump.

This indictment does nothing to prevent Trump from becoming the GOP nominee, does nothing to prevent him from running for president, and does nothing to him if he wins the presidency.

Thank you for handing the nomination to Trump, silly grand jurors and DA.

Remember--this was a charge dropped by federal prosecutors.

-24 ( +10 / -34 )

Best day ever for Trump fans. Trust me, thats what the narrative will be.

Just leak the photos and I'll be happy. :)

5 ( +12 / -7 )

This might even help him with his election chances because it paints the Dems as vindictive, self serving, politically driven and corrupt.

It’ll help him win the Republican nomination, that’s basically a done deal now. Least happy person in America right now will be DeSantis.

Republicans on the other hand, only have to keep their mouth shut to convey they're about the people and the country.

That one is a hard ask.

16 ( +19 / -3 )

CPTOMO: Thank you for handing the nomination to Trump

Would you describe this as the "best day ever?"

12 ( +18 / -6 )

gotta prove the case now, good luck.

Likely cant even prove its not just a misdemeanor that has already expired the statute of limitations.

But ok, go ahead.

-20 ( +9 / -29 )

First off, I'm not American, so I don't have skin in the game. I don't even like the guy. Heck, I'm not even a conservative. At the time when Trump ran in 2016, I thought he was a joke. I bought into all of anti-trump rhetoric. Yet as the years went on, 2 things happened. First off, the media definitely treated him differently....anyone without bias can see that. The media went after him for things that they wouldn't do for anybody else. Secondly, his legislative accomplishments were quite good. The economy was booming, no wars, illegal immigration was down, unemployment amongst minorities was at an all time low, America was energy independent, crushed the ISIS caliphate and the list goes on. Not bad for a racist...a racist who passed the First Step Act. A racist who guaranteed funding for historical black colleges. A racist who freed Alice Johnson and had her as a guest in the white house to help him get more black people out of jail. A racist who got MORE of the black vote in 2020 than in 2016. A racist who said "good people on both sides". (This last part was debunked by several news organisations including the BBC) As you all can probably tell, I'm being sarcastic with the "racist" part. Was Trump perfect? Not a chance. But legislatively, he did pretty well, and he did what he said what he would do, which is more than most politicians. Would I vote for him if I could? If it was a choice between him and Biden, I would choose Trump instead of a man who shakes hands with the air. Winston Churchill was one of the most vulgar people ever to live, yet he gave a giant middle finger to Hitler. The point is, our leaders are not perfect.

How many of you would say the same thing if Biden was to be prosecuted? There are a lot of shady things concerning his family, the Ukraine, China, etc and yet the media is silent. Remember when Trump held a glass with 2 hands and the media was demanding he have a cognitive test, yet when Biden is calling out the names of dead people at press conferences, the media is silent? What about the Hunter Biden laptop story, which was buried by Twitter? Turned out to be true. If this had been Trumps children, this would have been on loop non stop on all media out lets.

I do not like the guy. I do not like philandering. Maybe the Georgia case has some merit. But this? Hush money? Seems like they are trying to get him on anything just to prevent him from running again and in the process, are turning him into a martyr.

-28 ( +12 / -40 )

This will backfire on Trump's enemies. They're making him more if a martyr and hero to the working class every day.

-22 ( +9 / -31 )

so why are his poll numbers through the roof since this was publicized as going to happen?

He is beating Biden in every poll I have seen recently and is beating DeSantis by double digits up to 30 points in some.

Nothing changes by him getting indicted.

So this case will make it to court right around election time?

Just keeps Trump in the news every day now as a martyr.

-25 ( +10 / -35 )

Good, now they’re making the guy even more popular. Now he’s got even more ammunition.

-32 ( +6 / -38 )

Blacklabel: Likely cant even prove its not just a misdemeanor that has already expired the statute of limitations.

Who knew all of your "insider information" would be so wrong? You told us the case was collapsing. Ypu told us Trump wouldn't be indicted. Abd media something something.

Get over it, start making new baseless assumptions, and remember....this is the best day ever for Trump. Bass will be a guide if you get confused again. Lots of LOLs will help.

17 ( +22 / -5 )

Just keeps Trump in the news every day now as a martyr.

lol Apparently someone doesn't know what a "martyr" is. lol

9 ( +15 / -6 )

Bass: Good, now they’re making the guy even more popular. Now he’s got even more ammunition.

Best day ever?

10 ( +16 / -6 )

Ypu told us Trump wouldn't be indicted.

No I actually didnt.

You remember this, because you complained about it when I said it.

I said they cant (based on zero evidence of a felony and the case being out of the limitations), but that doesnt mean they wont. (now they have).

-27 ( +5 / -32 )

lol Apparently someone doesn't know what a "martyr" is. lol

I’m older than 3 so yeah, I do know.

-27 ( +7 / -34 )

This is a good start. More indictments to come. But this case is really nothing compared to his attempted coup and attack on our country for which he needs to go down in flames. Anyone who still supports him politically needs a brain examination. And until the GOP chooses to exorcise the still remaining Republican Trumpeteers from their ranks I will always consider the Republican Party as one that worked to destroy the US government. Same as the "Are you a terrorist" question on US immigration entry forms.

5 ( +14 / -9 )

lol Apparently someone doesn't know what a "martyr" is. lol

Lol Yeah lol, I do. lol

-23 ( +6 / -29 )

This won't fly. What Trump really has to look out for is Georgia. Tapes are readily available. I think Georgia has the best case against him.

10 ( +15 / -5 )

The Trump circus continues and the trump derangement syndrome folks get to become all excited again, whipped up into a revenge frenzy. Zero awareness of the hypocrisy and double standards that they possess, nor of the fact that politicians paying hush money to ex-ladies of the night, covering up affairs and naughty little episodes of their past is as common as dirt. AND, that they are also playing right to Trumps base. There will be no conviction and he will use this to his advantage. So yeah, well done again guys. Made things worse again. Ya'll deserve each other.

Oh, and while we are at it, this instinct to 'lock up' political opponents is both juvenile and dangerous. Refer to the horrors of the 20th century for reference please, before we repeat them.

-13 ( +7 / -20 )

no Jr, you lying psycho idiot, go read up on Pol Pot then wash your mouth out with soap.

Why? I thought in the US we can say whatever we want.

Rhetoric anyone? Guys who killed millions would be embarrassed by Braggs prosecutorial misconduct.

Again, the Dems always open that can of worms, two can play that same game.

-25 ( +5 / -30 )

Superlib: You told us Trump wouldn't be indicted.

Black: No I actually didnt. I said they cant.

Thanks for clearing that up.

10 ( +14 / -4 )

Bronco: This is Gold !!!

Best day ever?

11 ( +15 / -4 )

Lol Yeah lol, I do. lol

Good. So you should know why then Trump isn't a matter. lol

2 ( +7 / -5 )

'Can't' means 'Can't' @Blacklabel. See my comments above about this coming to nothing . But really, your blind loyalty to this man is embarrassing. Yes, I agree, they have just handed him the keys to the White House.

Bring on 2028.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

martyr*

2 ( +7 / -5 )

now this allows DeSantis to not run, throw his support behind Trump and unite the entire party.

Even Turtle McConnell and Mitt Romney have to support Trump now or identify as Democrats from now on.

LOL indeed.

DeSantis:

The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head.

It is un-American.

The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct. Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent.

Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda.

-22 ( +5 / -27 )

Good. So you should know why then Trump isn't a matter. lol

Hmmm…I disagree

-22 ( +5 / -27 )

DC establishment is afraid of what will happen to them if he is President. They'll do everything they can to keep him out. Japan sure wishes he was President again. Look at where they are now.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

Looks like Mr. TEFLON has finally turned into Mr. SILICONE, all these lies and scams are finally catching up, what could be any better than Stormy sticking to him, Justice served.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

CONGRATULATIONS America.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

Hmmm…I disagree

what? Trump found out about this indictment and he died?

5 ( +11 / -6 )

Blacklabel

The bumbling idiot DA actually did it, unbelievable. Welcome to the re-election of Trump as president.

This won't help Trump it will hinder him. His base and the RINOs will certainly get riled up and vote for him, but equally, the real GOP and independents won't touch Trump with a barge pole.

Great post!

Hope the American liberals here read it.

-14 ( +4 / -18 )

what? Trump found out about this indictment and he died?

Relax. It’s an indictment, no handcuffs no jail.

-22 ( +5 / -27 )

But really, your blind loyalty to this man is embarrassing

whats blind about it? If I have blind loyalty, then the haters have blind hate.

team liberal are the blind ones as creepy Joe blunders and gaffes us right into World War 3. Just continue to protect him and pretend he didnt do that or didnt say that. Why? cause the left is blinded with Trump hate.

When he was there in office, the daily life of the American people was GREAT.

Can anyone honestly say their life is better since Joe took office. wars, inflation, illegals rushing the border, train derailments, crime, mass shootings.

Only thing built back better is the Taliban, with all that US military equipment.

-22 ( +5 / -27 )

Blacklabel

now this allows DeSantis to not run, throw his support behind Trump and unite the entire party.

Not going to happen.

Even Turtle McConnell and Mitt Romney have to support Trump now or identify as Democrats from now on.

This is a gift to McConnell. He's being wanted rid of Trump for years. Now he can completely disavow him.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Relax. It’s an indictment, no handcuffs no jail.

So you don’t disagree then. Cool.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Happy Day

DC establishment is afraid of what will happen to them if he is President.

No the aren't, because he won't win again. Trump hasn't won anything since his win in 2016. He lost the house, the senate, and the presidency. He's a loser.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

Why? I thought in the US we can say whatever we want.

It doesn't mean you should though.

Like Don Jr., many of statements like yours on the right lack any rhetorical or logical sense.

Comparing the Killing Fields of Pol Pot to this indictment of Trump is just wanting to insert the 'left' and is conservative fundamentalist moon speak

4 ( +8 / -4 )

why then Trump isn't a matter. lol

oh he matters. a LOT. the panic that he is going to win has caused this fatal over reaction by Dems.

thus the indictment on a more than half decade old supposed misdemeanor that they trying to stretch into a felony.

despite fed prosecutors already reviewing and dropping it.

-20 ( +5 / -25 )

So you don’t disagree then. Cool.

A bit different guy. Relax, it’s an indictment on a charge where the stature of limitation has expired, that’s the funny part. Lol

-21 ( +4 / -25 )

oh he matters. a LOT. the panic that he is going to win has caused this fatal over reaction by Dems.

I said martyr. And you know good and well Trump isn't a martyr. He's spent his entire life thinking about only himself. Enriching only himself. Satisfying only himself. He's a crook. He's always been a crook, and I predict this is only the first indictment. Lock him up!

12 ( +17 / -5 )

Opp's!

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Bronco

This is Gold !!!

Trump's position as the only true anti-establishment candidate is solidified in the minds of the average voter.

It's obvious that the system is afraid of him.

So people that hate the system will naturally vote for him to convey their disgust with the powers that be.

Or maybe, he was indicted because he broke the law. Did you ever consider that? Or do you think that rich and powerful people should be immune to the law?

10 ( +15 / -5 )

This is Gold !!!

Then get ready for platinum and palladium...

This is a fairly minor one - the larger and more serious indictments are coming for the classified steal and stash which his former AG Repub Bill Barr said they have him "dead to rights on"...and on the phone call to Raffensperger all on tape...

Get your MAGA pom-poms out - you can cheer some more as he's perp-walked out...

ROFL...

13 ( +18 / -5 )

A bit different guy. Relax, it’s an indictment on a charge where the stature of limitation has expired, that’s the funny part. Lol

Perfectly relaxed. Just pointing out that presently he can’t be a martyr. Disagreeing with it just makes one wrong. Yep though, this will probably help Trump. I wouldn’t call the election on it yet but he’s certainly got the Republican nomination.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Love him or not, this will almost certainly boost Trumps popularity even further - and he is already massively loved in the US.

With Trumps boost in popularity, the buffoon little Ron de Santis now has approximately ZERO chance of winning the Republican primary. He won't even nominate. And Biden would be even more nervous now...

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

Lock him up!

Lock him up!

13 ( +18 / -5 )

Fighto!

Love him or not, this will almost certainly boost Trumps popularity even further - and he is already massively loved in the US.

No he isn't. He's got a base that think he walks on water, but the rest of America are tired of his incompetence and narcissism.

5 ( +13 / -8 )

Yeah DeSantis already had to fall in line behind Trump, as anyone else who doesnt change their party registration to Democrat will need to also do.

thanks to the NY DA for the help in unifying the party behind our real leader.

and good luck proving that nonsense case. you only had one shot and this is the one you took.

sad.

-15 ( +5 / -20 )

Another first, Trump is the first president or ex-president indicted.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

Blacklabel

and good luck proving that nonsense case. you only had one shot and this is the one you took.

What do you mean? This doesn't stop the other investigations. Get ready for a slew of more indictments.

It'll be raining indictments...

10 ( +15 / -5 )

DeSantis: The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head.

Nothing to do with the Dems. It's to do with the fact he is a criminal.

Meh, people have sexual relations with other people all the time.

But not many people make hush money payments a decade later in the middle of the presidential campaign to keep their wife from "finding out."

It's bribery. Plain and simple. And Stormy was physically threatened herself, yet that little bird chirped on '60 Minutes'.

Over 20 years ago neo-cons and skippy kids were beating the drums of impeachment on Pres. Clinton for gross sexual interactions with willing consenting (and stupid) adults and he didn't bribe any of them. Trump OTOH has committed a felony act in this case as well as several other crimes such as abuse of office, treason, etc. etc.......

'Politically motivated'? How could it be when trump isn't in the WH? And let's fave it, he's the rottenest and evilest criminal America has ever had or known in history.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Well, now it's official: The Democrat Party has turned the USA into a banana republic, where they use and exploit the criminal justice system to persecute and harass its political opponents.

-16 ( +5 / -21 )

I said martyr. And you know good and well Trump isn't a martyr. He's spent his entire life thinking about only himself.

Like Bragg does?

Enriching only himself.

Seems like the current President is being looked at for just that matter

Satisfying only himself. He's a crook.

How would you know, relax. I think the current President is one, but do I know? I don’t, but the Dems will not be in power forever, the pendulum swings both ways.

He's always been a crook, and I predict this is only the first indictment. Lock him up!

Yeah, that won’t happen.

-22 ( +5 / -27 )

Many of us will now share the satisfaction of the Don's consigliere, Michael Cohen, who was unfairly thrown under the bus and into jail while "Individual 1" got off scot-free, until now. More indictments for far more serious crimes will follow to put an end to Trump's criminal career as flailing Republicans start to squawk and fly around like chickens without heads to get away from the weasel they let into their coop. Given Trump's age and the veneration around the office of Potus, it's possible he'll never serve a day on "Trump" (Rikers) Island", or any other prison, in Georgia or in other states where he committed crimes. Of more interest will be to see how few of his enablers among the political class will serve time for aiding and abetting 45 because real justice would decimate the US political establishment infected with the orange rot. Like the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, nothing is perfect.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

@ Based

Well, now it's official: The Democrat Party has turned the USA into a banana republic, where they use and exploit the criminal justice system to persecute and harass its political opponents.

You are slightly naive. The US Justice system has never been independent. The judges, prosecutors etc are all political, and in most cases elected. They are part of the political machines of the GOP and Democrats.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Historic. 2 impeachments and 1 indictment.

Nothing rushed, despite his attempts to distract and squeal witch-hunt.

Maybe the delay was because they couldn’t find any handcuffs small enough.

12 ( +16 / -4 )

The Trump supporters think this indictment will help Trump get re-elected. All it's going to do is give his opponents a suit of armor to deflect any and all criticisms and questions based on their miscues or issues back at Trump. "Yes, I my program for __ was a tragic failure, but look at Mr. Forever Whining About Bring Indicted Trump over there." Given the state of the extremist Republican party, there's a decent chance he'll end up being their candidate, but no chance he'll get elected President.....he's even easier a target now.

10 ( +14 / -4 )

Over 20 years ago neo-cons and skippy kids were beating the drums of impeachment on Pres. Clinton for gross sexual interactions with willing consenting (and stupid) adults and he didn't bribe any of them.

Doesn't matter, he lied under oath to a grand Jury

Trump OTOH has committed a felony act in this case as well as several other crimes such as abuse of office, treason, etc. etc.......

What crimes? Treason? What on earth are you talking about??? Lol

'Politically motivated'?

Absolutely

How could it be when trump isn't in the WH?

Maybe so he can’t run again, forget democracy, but it’s not working, if anything, it’s helping him as his numbers are and continue to rise.

And let's fave it, he's the rottenest and evilest criminal America has ever had or known in history.

Not him, not at all, but the what the Dems and DOJ are doing, one might think of them as such.

-16 ( +6 / -22 )

Here's hoping this riles Trump up enough that he goes back on Hannity and incriminates himself even more...

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/3/28/2160742/-On-FOX-News-Trump-Confesses-that-He-Stole-Classified-Documents-Despite-Hannity-s-Coaching

ROFL..

11 ( +15 / -4 )

now they’re making the guy even more popular

They? Is Bragg part of a giant conspiracy?

This indictment and others likely forthcoming will not make Trump "even more popular". The diehard MAGA fanatics have already made up their minds to support their god no matter what, and the majority of Americans already hate the man with a passion (including Tucker 'n' little friends). An indictment is not going to persuade anyone on the fence to support Trump at this stage, but it is quite likely to persuade a good number of conservatives to go for someone else.

Trump may get the nomination, but he'll never win the general. Sorry, Don. End of the line for you.

10 ( +14 / -4 )

He’s the weakest President ever. Being indicted over petty crimes loke he’s a nobody. How can US expect him to lead them towards anything if he can’t even protect himself?

8 ( +12 / -4 )

No court case before the 2024 elections.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

What a joke! This is going to backfire on the Democrats big time! The Democrats are making a mountain out of a molehill. It's called desperation because the Democrats will do anything to stop Trump from running and winning in 2024. President Biden is performing badly and his handlers are at their wits end. They have gone so far as to mark the stage so that Biden knows where to stand. However, Biden messes up when it comes to reading a prepared script.

-11 ( +7 / -18 )

Trump requested $3,000 in donations from his supporters.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

“His lawyers Susan Necheles and Joseph Tacopina said they will "vigorously fight" the charges”

He’d better hope Ms Necheles is on the ball because just a few years ago Mr Tacopina was claiming the case did it look good and 45 was in trouble.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

The decision is sure to send shockwaves across the country, pushing the American political system – which has never seen one of its ex-leaders confronted with criminal charges, let alone while running again for president – into uncharted waters.

Maybe these uncharted waters include being the Republican nominee and having a shot in the next Presidential election…(?)…; we need to be careful… VERY careful…;

Trump released a statement in response to the indictment claiming it was "Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history."

“I believe this Witch-Hunt will backfire massively on Joe Biden," the former president said. "The American people realize exactly what the Radical Left Democrats are doing here. Everyone can see it. So our Movement, and our Party – united and strong – will first defeat Alvin Bragg, and then we will defeat Joe Biden, and we are going to throw every last one of these Crooked Democrats out of office so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Trump's lawyer Alina Habba said in a statement that Trump "is a victim of a corrupt and distorted version of the American justice system and history. He will be vindicated."

5 ( +6 / -1 )

No court case before the 2024 elections.

Yeah because you know he will be acquitted.

You all know he will be.

Bottom line, Alvin Bragg- You messed up.

-19 ( +7 / -26 )

"This is Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history," he said, providing no evidence. Shortly after, Trump appealed to supporters to provide money for a legal defense.

HA! I bet Trump had Don Jr and Eric pay off some of the grand jury members so he could get indicted...and grift his dimwitted supporters out of even more of their money...

They gave him $1.5 million after he hustled them with his "I get indicted on Tuesday" lie last week...

Wonder how much more of their cash they'll contribute after this con-job...

MAGA- More Americans Grifted Again...

10 ( +14 / -4 )

“His lawyers Susan Necheles and Joseph Tacopina said they will "vigorously fight" the charges”

They need to ensure they are paid.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

All Biden needs to say to win any debate and any election vs. Trump now is "Well, my speaking skillz aren't great, but at least I haven't been indicted for dealings with a hooker." and "Yeah, made a few mistakes, but paying off hookers ain't one of 'em."

Keeps the focus and spotlight on the array of negatives from Senor trump. Galvanizes the 30% of the country that will ensure Trump is the Republican's candidate and neutralizes Desantis completely for the 2024 election cycle. The rest of the country will continue to move away from Trump and his kleptocracy.

The Trump zealots' whataboutery and conspiracy theories are just hilarious.

18 ( +22 / -4 )

What's this I am hearing about 34 counts?

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Here is a basic fact about the case:

Paying off hooker is legal.

But writing it off as a legal expense which Trump did is a crime. If I did that then I would be locked up. Why is Trump special.

Now it's up to a jury and this jury could be you, me, or any American.

Excuse me…;

Maybe these uncharted waters include being the Republican nominee and having a shot at/a chance of winning the next Presidential election…(?)

Well, that’s yet to be determined..

oh I'm sure the GOP will do a bang up job. They always do when it comes to investigations.

We don’t know since the investigations are ongoing.

There are? By who? Trump sycophants in congress. Okay. lol They always project their own criminality onto others. There's nothing.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Nishikat - I could be wrong, but the jury members (if it goes to trial) may need to be New Yorkers, and maybe even need to be residents of Manhattan.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Who else is in on this conspiracy? Name at least three people outside the prosecutor's office who have been in on nailing Trump.

The Democrats, take your pick.

Because Trump has a long record of criminal behavior.

No, he never said, he wanted to stop crime in NYC and hasn’t done that, the opposite.

Prosecutors go after crooks,

Why hasn’t he done that in NYC? I mean, real crimes, not the ones that expired?

Bragg is doing his job.

Well, based on that answer it’s no wonder why people are fleeing NYC

That's the MAGA narrative, but it's false. For one thing, major felony offenses across the city in 2022 were lower than in 1990, 1993, 1998, and 2001. And such felonies last month were down 6% from last year. So spare us the "NYC crime wave" schtick.

Naw, you can believe that garbage all day. Lol

And remember, no one is above the law.

Oh, I agree, go Jim Jordan!

-18 ( +5 / -23 )

Grudgingly, even from the left I have to agree with the Trump shills, cultists on this that it will be a net plus for him.

It is going to be a sexy case leading up to the election, media tailor made for engagement.

That he was never arrested for tax fraud, non payment of contractors on his real estate developments and election interference is the real scandal of American jurisprudence.

Bragg only thinks about himself? Any evidence for that? Or you don't have any rebuttal other than a "whatabout"?

11 ( +14 / -3 )

When Trump is arrested will the handcuffs be gold?

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Another legal problem is falsifying real estate asset data to inflate values. He signed off on blatant overestimating (in other words lying by a very big margin and I don't mean just a discrepancy of a few square meters) the size of his properties to get more financial influence to scam out the banks. That is a(nother) financial crime and if I did that I would be nailed. What is special about Trump.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

Not at all politically motivated. Nope. Not at all.

The diehard MAGA fanatics have already made up their minds to support their god no matter what,

Bass: "Yes"

The Insurrectionist was right about one thing...His diehards would support him NO MATTER WHAT

15 ( +18 / -3 )

According to Trump, "I'm the most victimized ever!"

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Bigger indictments are to come. Jan 6 and Georgia.

14 ( +17 / -3 )

The disastrous TV appearances of his lawyer (who once defended Michael Cohen!) have not done any favors for 45 so even before the trial begins it would not surprise to see Trump dump Tacopizza, his "Goodfella" lawyer. From now on we are sure to see many rats jumping from Trump's sinking ship torpedoed by his sleazy partner, Pecker, the low-key, unobtrusive witness that came out of the woodwork in the dark. In the end Trump will be abandoned by all but his blue-collar followers, but he will have achieved what he always wanted: to go down in history as the most controversial US president of all.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

Will this indictment make Trump more popular as our MAGA friends claim?

Undoubtedly - with the 30% of the MAGA-cultists that think Trump is the Orange Jesus...

But the other 70%, and especially Independent voters, see the sewer that is Trump-world for what it is - payoffs to porn stars, fraudulent uncertified electors, dining with Neo-Nazis and anti-Semites, using racial slurs against his former cabinet members...and the constant grifting for donations...

If this does help Trump win the nomination, nothing could be better for Biden and the Dems...

DeSantis, Pence, Haley, Pompeo, et al would be much stronger candidates, as they lack the stench of Trump...

But as we saw in 2020 and 2022, the Repubs no longer care about winning - it's all about the cult....

So they'll nominate the most unelectable candidate again - and lose again - and make outlandish claims of fraud again...

And the losing cycle continues...

Good for them...

11 ( +14 / -3 )

The specific charges are not yet known...

"This is Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history,"

Not exactly an illogical conclusion.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Ahhh, so nice to see this criminal finally get his just desserts. Do America and the world a favor and lock this nutter up and throw away the key. We don't need a repeat of those 4 hellish years.

Rikers Island or Sing Sing?

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Shortly after, Trump appealed to supporters to provide money for a legal defense

Fancy that.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

The charges, arising from an investigation led by Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, could reshape the 2024 presidential race. Trump previously said he would continue campaigning for the Republican Party's nomination if charged with a crime.

The specific charges are not yet known and the indictment will likely be unsealed by a judge in the coming days. Trump will have to travel to Manhattan for fingerprinting and other processing at that point.

Loath Donald Trump, fine, however until specific charges are made public, Trump should, at least, not be subjected to a trail by media.

Why do they have mention " To porn star " or her name. Both are relevant to the charge. The charge is money passing hand for silents. Why can't this girl enjoy her success in peace. She worked in the sex industry which is legal and pays taxes. No doubt she declare her earning for that year or the headline would finish with "to porn star who didn't declare her earning". If it is illegal why isn't the sex worker on charges ? Sound like a stupid law when it has to involves another person the receiver of the funds and receiving the funds are is with in the law. Is this coming from a nation that pride itself on freedom. ???

But in doing so they're making a martyr of him. If this much effort was put into cleaning all the crooks out of Washington without fear or favour, there'd be almost nobody left.

The economy was booming, no wars, illegal immigration was down, unemployment amongst minorities was at an all time low, America was energy independent, crushed the ISIS caliphate and the list goes on.

I'm not an American either and have no hada in this game. Trump was excellent for American diplomacy and foreign affairs. As a neutral observer, how can you not see how Biden is ruining your country? Trump is Hester Prynne; let him off the scaffold.

To maybe 30% of Americans - to the remaining 70% he's a political pariah...a twice-impeached, now indicted buffoon...who paid off a porn star while his wife was home with their 10 month old baby...then tried to criminally cover it up...

And we have yet to see the indictments for obstruction of justice, interfering in an election, and insurrection...

He's an unelectable sewer-dweller that dines with anti-Semites and white nationalists - and to this day still praises Putin and Xi...

He's fleecing his supporters of their money and playing them for fools and suckers - just like he has done since 2016...

14 ( +18 / -4 )

Based on what??

Your batting average for predictions.

Also historical precedent, as I’ve reminded you many times the last and only time a U.S. president served 2 non consecutive terms was in the 19th century.

I for one will be sure to remind you.

Don't be so sure, but I get it, the Dems are trying real hard. We know.

Impeachments didn’t boost his ratings, indictment won’t. He’s already done.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

The bad news for Trump is that the judge is fluent in numbers and financial crimes. Michael Cohen didn’t go to prison for misdemeanors and the charges come from finally finding the smoking gun link to Trump.

There is also a real possibility of the judge issuing a gag order on Trump. He may get away with not following it a few times, but not many, before a contempt charge is filed and whatever release agreement may get shelved and he really will get locked up. This judge is a serious judge.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Trump has very much of the televangelist about him.

How can his followers still believe that after his 4 years he will finally drain the swamp, build that wall, deliver the most amazing health care plan ever, make every American a winner living the high life, lock up the Wall Street criminals, communicate all his genius plans to Make America great if he just wasn't blocked from getting his message out by the lib tech elites?

His followers are like the apocalyptic cult believers whom after one predicted date passes move onto the next.

Too early to celebrate. Trump is a master of legal loophole finder. In fact, all his life, he did just that, nothing else. Can American legal system finallly put an end to this circus?

8 ( +10 / -2 )

was he making it all up that he was being targeted? Nope.

Yeah. When you break the law, the investigators tend to kind of investigate you. That's how it works.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

No former or sitting U.S. president has ever faced criminal charges.

There seems to be a pattern here. The same was said about the ICC charges on Putin. I don't know who will come after Biden. But do we want the next maniac to be in control of nuclear weapons stationed "all over the world"?

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

I wasn't going to comment but.... I think there is a need of urgent clarification

MARTYR

noun

mar·tyr ˈmär-tər

1: a person who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty of witnessing to and refusing to renounce a religion

2: a person who sacrifices something of great value and especially life itself for the sake of principle

martyr to the cause of freedom

3: VICTIM especially a great or constant sufferera martyr to asthma all his life

Whereas, the 3rd definition does not apply to Trump in this case since he is not sick nor is not a "great or constant" suffering, that is based on the comments of their supporters and some commentators here.

And for the 1st and 2nd.... well the key word there is "death"...

So order for Trump to be a martyr, he has to be death either physically or pollitically....which he is not (again based on his supporter base)

5 ( +8 / -3 )

What a scum bag asking his supporters to donate $3,000 each.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Not at all politically motivated. Nope. Not at all.

-12 ( +5 / -17 )

Not at all politically motivated. Nope. Not at all.

So are politicians above the law? How should one go about investigating politicians?

11 ( +13 / -2 )

The first of many indictments to come. It's beautiful. Arguably the best part is now the precedent has been set.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Grifting at every chance he can get. Recently had some video ads online where Trump was trying to sell gold bars with his face imprinted on them... wow, just wow. I'm waiting for the trial and expected conviction. This will make it easier for the Georgia, DOJ, and other current charges to be sped up.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

I’d hope Bragg has an strong case - especially able to clearly establish the falsification of business documents is related to the election rather than to save his marriage. The latter is quite arguable, I think, and that would make it a misdemeanor not a felony.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )
