Meanwhile, the Mexican government is rushing to defuse a major trade conflict with Washington by requesting a top level meeting on Wednesday to discuss both the tariffs, and the migrant surge at the border. It seems that Trump's 5% threatened tariff (which doesn't actually begin until June 10th) has finally gotten the Mexican government's attention to the national illegal alien crisis.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Can't wait to hear the Trumpers who suffer from these tariffs and Trump's mental deficiencies complain about how unfair this is... then still be dimwitted enough to say they might vote for him again. Americans deserve this train wreck.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

yak yak: "Not so sure about that lately."

Because evidently you prefer a dictatorship, and a man who loves other dictators.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

*ah Democrats are Americans ***Not so sure about that lately.**

please just have to look at the orange dictator in the white house, hes the insult to America and democracy

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Excellent! Love this guy! Another great move!

It would seem, like Trump, some people still don't get how tariffs work or perhaps suffer from memory loss.

How many times was this promised: "I will have Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words." ?

Now Americans are going to pay! LOL! Too funny.

ah are Americans

@yakyak Not so sure about that lately.

Once again the Internet Research Agency/Bannon/Qanon forces are using slogans easily remembered and then parroted by the benighted as these groups attempt to further splinter a long splintered nation. The above slogan is a variation on 'I'd rather be Russian than Democrat', which is an admission they prefer fascism to democracy.

> Prefer fascism to socialism?

"This guy has zero respect for the institutions and treaties."

Actually its countries like China Japan Korea and Mexico who have no respect or could care less about the treaties with the US. Look, its going to be painful and Trump knows this, to undo all the mess incompetent past politicians have done to the US but its got to be done.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

This guy has zero respect for the institutions and treaties.

Perhaps China should dump its US government bonds and watch the US economy crash worse than it did under the last republican president.

The problem with that is that China would also take a massive hit in the dump. It’s the poison pill. China could screw the US in this way, but they’d be screwing themselves as well.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Perhaps China should dump its US government bonds and watch the US economy crash worse than it did under the last republican president.

Im sure China will use that as a last resort, just depends on how far Trump is prepared to push it. If China fails theyll take the US with them and viseversa, their economies are too dependant on each other. IF it does happen hope it just before the 2020 election. LOL

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Has nothing to do with the American people. The blame is 100 percent on the Democrats as they control Congress.

ah Democrats are Americans they were elected by Americans and now control the house which the Republicans lost, because Americans didn't give them enough votes. Democrats don't control congress. thought ID clear that up for you since you clearly have NFI

1 ( +3 / -2 )

They wouldn't do it, They would essentially be doing themselves in. Never going to happen.

Someone doesn't understand that the US needs other countries economically. Perhaps China should dump its US government bonds and watch the US economy crash worse than it did under the last republican president. ROFL!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

"We"? Which country are you referring to when you say, "we"?

They wouldn't do it, They would essentially be doing themselves in. Never going to happen.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Oy vey, what a putz.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

"We"? Which country are you referring to when you say, "we"?

Every country on the planet other than America of course.

You people elected a moron, and left us to deal with him. We should be making you pay what that's worth.

5% tarriff on America!

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Strangerland - I think we should all tariff America for being so stupid as to elect Trump. He's caused way worse troubles in the world than any caravan ever did.

"We"? Which country are you referring to when you say, "we"?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

HonestDictator - Trade wars are awesome!!! [insert long line of expletives here.]

Gawd, the Trumpers are so damned brainless. Never comprehending the actual end results, only the bluster of arrogance of this wanton stupidity.

Your argument doesn't sound very convincing.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Sneezy - Mexico produces far more than avocados. You might be able to plant your own avocado tree, you gonna plant your own automobile tree?

The U.S. Congress enabled the relocation of many U.S. jobs to Mexico, including auto manufacturing.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

This idiot is at it again. Trade wars are awesome!!! [insert long line of expletives here.]

Gawd, the Trumpers are so damned brainless. Never comprehending the actual end results, only the bluster of arrogance of this wanton stupidity.

Here is an article I've read that puts this all in perspective for sane critically thinking people in the world about Trumps actions and Trumpeteers that follow him blindly.

https://gendercreativelife.com/2018/06/21/trump-and-the-cult-45/

They ARE a literally a CULT. They have cult mentality in the first place which makes them easily susceptible to cult leaders.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Interesting. I'll see how much more expensive avocados will be. Last time I checked, each cost 1.99.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Two days ago Trump had a nuclear meltdown over the Mueller. This is a further reaction still boiling in his brain.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

This just seems emotional rather than rational.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Lessee how GDP is not expressed:

> Lessee... U.S. GDP is at 3.2% while the EU's GDP is at 1.5%...

HAR!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

...US car manufacturers would get hit pretty hard

3 ( +4 / -1 )

So, from a value add standpyabout 35% of U.S. auto exports, from a value added standpoint, consist of parts manufactured in Mexico.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

1 million Projected illegal immigrants will cross the border by the end of the year. This has now turned into a National security issue. If Trump wasn't the President they would still be coming. This is 10 years in the making. Something has to be done before the perfect storm comes along.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

I think we should all tariff America for being so stupid as to elect Trump. He's caused way worse troubles in the world than any caravan ever did.

2 ( +10 / -8 )

Any money earned from this can be used to pay for the wall and provide illegal immigrant services that the taxpayers are currently funding.

They'll still be funding it. That's how tariffs work.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I heard President Obrador almost choked on his chimichanga when he heard the news...

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

So he is just going to do whatever he thinks is right.

Two problems with that statement: (1) the dude is unable to make educated decisions (besides base self-enrichment), and (2) his decisions usually violate the constitution (including the bill of rights), the law, human rights, objective facts; you know, those pesky obstacles.

Excellent!

Yea, not so excellent because then everyone thinks that they can do what they think is right. It is already happening. Fools are accosting Americans demanding to see green cards or a drivers license, lawless vigilantes at the border.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Excellent!

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Is Mexico going to tariff US products over the guns smuggled from America that have caused such damage in both countries?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Has nothing to do with the American people. The blame is 100 percent on the Democrats as they control Congress.

Who voted for the Congress?

10 ( +11 / -1 )

So a country like America with its unlimited resources and technology can't prevent illegal immigration but now expects a lesser country, Mexico to achieve what it couldn't.

Has nothing to do with the American people. The blame is 100 percent on the Democrats as they control Congress.

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

Well, goodbye new NAFTA... This was quick !

Disappeared faster than an agreement with NK.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Well, looks like we're all going to pay for Trump's immigration policy.

That can't be true, Trump said China pays tariffs. So, Mexico will be paying these tariffs. Right???

5 ( +8 / -3 )

If the US stopped invading/destabilizing every nation that it disagrees with there wouldn't be so many refugees.

Illegal immigration comes at a cost. The American taxpayer is paying for what's going on at the border.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Trumps’ ILLEGAL Alien Policy you mean.

They are illegal aliens, they are breaking the law.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Punish Mexico, fight with China, impose taxes on European stuff, terminate agreements, but be good buddies with Kim and Putin. Where oh where is this guy going (to end)?

Yep, just like the Wild West!

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

The Democrats better get their act together, as they are virtually giving President Trump another 4 years in the Whitehouse. Their worst nightmare will come true because of their lack of governing for the American people.

0 ( +7 / -7 )

Let's see if it is smart ?

Spoilers: it isn't.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Tariffs mainly hurt poor Americans so Trump won't care because while he stated that "I love the poorly educated" this is because he knows they cannot understand economics. Just like him.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

trump is a true Coward Dictator.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Look at me over here.

Don't look at Robert Mueller over there.

Treasonous dangerous psychotic president.

Republicans did this. Never forget.

The distractions ain't over yet!

US and allies set to present ‘evidence’ of Iran attacks in Middle East, as Bolton denies policy rift with Trump

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Trump again using trade as a bludgeon to get what he wants from countries. From Friend and foe alike. Trump has no friends and soon neither will America.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Let's see if it is smart ?

At least, he tries something new and simple.

Because you know, trying again and again a move that doesn't work is a foolish action.

I am objectively waiting to see the outcome to discuss it.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Well the Democrats wouldn't support building the wall, so he had try another way - all Mexico has to do is send these illegal migrants back across the southern Mexican border and the tariffs are gone.

As for the Democrat supporters, SJW's and lefties, before you start making negative comments against Trump what would you do stop the flow.

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

Lessee... U.S. GDP is at 3.2% while the EU's GDP is at 1.5%...

U.S. unemployment is at 3.8% while the EU's unemployment is at 6.4%...

Ah yes, the EU, whose economic and employment statistics are famously directly influenced by... Mexico!?

5 ( +8 / -3 )

@serrano Obviously Trump is doing something right...yep Obama set things up pretty well its only going to take Trumpy another 6 months to screw it all up...

5 ( +9 / -4 )

@Trumplets you might want to find out how tariffs work...

0 ( +6 / -6 )

Super!Lib: Well, looks like we're all going to pay for Trump's immigration policy.

Let's see the fist pumping from the "nothing to lose" crowd.

Lessee... U.S. GDP is at 3.2% while the EU's GDP is at 1.5%...

BREAKING NEWS: Mexico agrees to pay for the Impeachment.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Genius! Now it is easy to have an unlimited budget; just slap tariffs on everyone and everything. That way, they pay for everything we spend. That’s how tariffs work, right?

Let's just hope no-one else figures this out...

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Punishing companies that move to Mexico rather than here.

WINNING!!!!

These businesses are just being efficient. Why do you hate capitalism?

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Punish Mexico, fight with China, impose taxes on European stuff, terminate agreements, but be good buddies with Kim and Putin. Where oh where is this guy going (to end)?

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Based on this logic, Canada should also slap a tariff on everything from the USA as illegal immigrants to Canada are crossing from the US.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Recruit Mexicans into the Army get them to guard the border with citizenship after 5 years service. Rome did a similar thing....near the end.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

So a country like America with its unlimited resources and technology can't prevent illegal immigration but now expects a lesser country, Mexico to achieve what it couldn't.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

If the US stopped invading/destabilizing every nation that it disagrees with there wouldn't be so many refugees

While partly true, the US has probably done more in aid and support to these nations than any other country. Is it our fault that humans are corrupt too?

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Typical Washington foreign policy: tariffs, sanctions, invasions, global destabilization.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

Mexico pays for the wall

Genius! Now it is easy to have an unlimited budget; just slap tariffs on everyone and everything. That way, they pay for everything we spend. That’s how tariffs work, right?

5 ( +8 / -3 )

An outstanding move. A great trifecta by our President:

Mexico pays for the wall.

Migrant caravans stop.

Punishing companies that move to Mexico rather than here.

WINNING!!!!

-16 ( +6 / -22 )

Mexico produces far more than avocados. You might be able to plant your own avocado tree, you gonna plant your own automobile tree?

7 ( +11 / -4 )

I can plant my own avocado tree, so Im good.

We get money from Mexico, so Trump then says "Mexico paid for the wall". There will be some liberal here right away after that to start mansplaining to us about tariffs.

-14 ( +6 / -20 )

So he is just going to do whatever he thinks is right. Any money earned from this can be used to pay for the wall and provide illegal immigrant services that the taxpayers are currently funding.

American consumers will pay more for goods. Once again, "Mexico will pay for it" shown to be the lie it always was.

7 ( +14 / -7 )

If the US stopped invading/destabilizing every nation that it disagrees with there wouldn't be so many refugees.

1 ( +10 / -9 )

the liberal reaction is exactly the same no matter what Trump does or doesnt do.

So he is just going to do whatever he thinks is right. Any money earned from this can be used to pay for the wall and provide illegal immigrant services that the taxpayers are currently funding.

-14 ( +10 / -24 )

So smart one what would you do instead? It is easy to disagree with everything and everyone but coming up with a solution that works and tat others agree is a challenge.

Uh, quit contributing to making the places the immigrants are coming from horrible places they want to leave? Quit funding death squads because they’re “fighting communism”? That would be a good start. Basically just leaving the area alone would probably do wonders.

10 ( +18 / -8 )

Excellent! Love this guy! Another great move!

-15 ( +12 / -27 )

If Mexico had H-bombs or ICBM's, Trump would no doubt be sucking up to its leader.

0 ( +12 / -12 )

I am sorry to hear this for my American friends, you people doesn't deserve to pay such a pointless of extra spending(5% tariffs) when buying stuffs from Mexico! Because someone intruded your contry and stay then you have to pay extra ? And I don't think all Mexican illegal immigrants were bad people, they were orchid workers or other labours necessary for arigcultural industry! Trump's move is indicating he is gone paranoid !

3 ( +11 / -8 )

"Well, looks like we're all going to pay for Trump's immigration policy."

So smart one what would you do instead? It is easy to disagree with everything and everyone but coming up with a solution that works and tat others agree is a challenge.

-6 ( +10 / -16 )

So much for the new NAFTA agreement; Trump has broken it before it even starts. It shows that there is no point making any deal with Trump as he won't keep his word.

What happened to this wall Trump promised? How about a 50% tax on Trump's companies until he gets the wall built?

6 ( +15 / -9 )

Trumps’ ILLEGAL Alien Policy you mean.

-1 ( +9 / -10 )

Well, looks like we're all going to pay for Trump's immigration policy.
