“The only path to any reunification of this broken and divided country is by shining a light on the truth,

Hopefully among the truths to be shown will be how many Trump political appointees, how many Trump Republicans and how many government security personnel were directly involved, i.e. aided and abetted the mob in the failed - and deadly - violent attempt to overthrow the government.

It could begin today but for the fact that Mitch doesn’t want to take responsibility (and I suspect wants into kneecap the Biden administration). And the Sedition Caucus needs time to get its excuses, er....”story” straight.

Has to be done regardless of the fact Trump's reign of horror is almost over. Scary to think that even if trump had personally gunned down people in the White House for sport, some Republicans would still defend his behavior. He has betrayed the GOP, the country and the world and needs to be held accountable once and for all.

Why wait? We saw the treasonous act live a week ago? This evil scumbag may try to pull another stunt. He's unreliable, undependable. He must go now! Simple as that. Surely Pence could be a lame-duck POTUS for 6 days but he's too chicken to take on the responsibilities.

I remember when Ronnie Reagan underwent a surgery he made his VP George Bush 'Acting President'. Pence could assume that himself but he ain't got the guts. TrashTrump is a thug and a traitor, he must be punished and should start yesterday!

Corporations and wealthy political donors siding with the Dems, as usual.

Sorry but the majority of political donations from large corporations go to Republicans, not Democrats.

I don't think that's the reason at all. Mr. McConnell, whom I detest, is cunning and calculating. Number one, if Mr. Trump is no longer President, then the Chief Justice doesn't preside over the trial. Second, once he's out of office he can't pardon anyone and I suspect he is looking at an argument that one cannot pardon someone who hasn't been convicted of a crime. Also Mr. Trump attempting to pardon himself is both legally weak especially inasmuch as the Constitution specifies that crimes associated with an impeachment cannot be pardoned and his attempt to pardon himself could be viewed as an admission of guilt.

There is also some likelihood that by the time the Senate reconvenes on the 19th the election results for both of Georgia's new Democratic Senators will be certified and both new members will be seated. At that point it will be up to Chuck Schumer to conduct the impeachment trial as Mitch McConnell will have surrendered his gavel to Mr. Schumer.

Corporations and wealthy political donors siding with the Dems, as usual.

That is an ironic comment inasmuch as the Democratic Party is widely viewed as being anti-business and anti-corporation. Most of my life all I have heard is this steady drumbeat from the Republican side about how bad Democrats are for business. So let's just say I see your comment as deflection absent any supporting evidence.

Biden’s first 100 days are starting out with a bang. Har har har.

Corporations and wealthy political donors siding with the Dems, as usual.

Turns out that siding with fascists, white power racists and coup plotters is not a good look for a business.....

Whodathunkit?

Obviously not BB.

Sorry but the majority of political donations from large corporations go to Republicans, not Democrats.

Corporations tend to be agnostic regarding political party. Corporate donations tend to go to whomever is in power regardless of their party, seeking to influence their policy choices. They do however respond to how they are perceived by the buying public, not wishing to alienate vast swaths of their customer base by doing something that could be seen as directly against their interests.

Trump made America great again at what? At being the first loser to get impeached two times? I guess Trump is Great Again at being the biggest loser President in America. Loser.

Biden’s first 100 days are starting out with a bang. Har har har.

Yeah, nice of his predecessor to have left such a mess for him to clean up. Like the mess Bush left for Obama to fix, only a thousand times worse this round.

*“The only path to any reunification of this broken and divided country is by shining a light on the truth,*

Hopefully among the truths to be shown will be how many Trump political appointees, how many Trump Republicans and how many government security personnel were directly involved, i.e. aided and abetted the mob in the failed - and deadly - violent attempt to overthrow the government.

There will be more truths revailed too. ICE under Trump is commiting gross crimes against humanity. Children in concentration camps who will never see their families again, they are starved, beaten, raped and the females are getting forcefully sterilized.

And when Joe and his family do move in the WH (they should've been allowed a visit by now, but nooooooo), what they find there from the Trump family may make the Bidens throw up.

Should not all law makers be in observance of the Inauguration of the new President?  The newly elected President and Vice President should be respected on this day and the days immediately after . . . . Better to wait . . . ? or even hold trial at another venue?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Trump's next knee-jerk move will be a tremendous pardonpalooza like nobody has ever seen before, justified by the whiny wimp's perennial jeremiad of his being the victim of "the greatest witch hunt in history". Back in the real world, the senate impeachment trial could be held at "warpspeed" to head him off at "Pardon Pass". Still, a conviction on inauguration day would also make a memorable historic marker for children's history books, putting a period to Trump's costly tragicomedy of American carnage.

Good, will be symbolic that the traitor to Democracy will go on trial the day democratic rule is restored in the US!!!

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Poor Joe, no one really cares about him.

Dems are bad at business because they largely don't understand economics. Look at the Green New Deal, for example, or Biden's new multi-trillion-dollar covid plan.

It's like they think money grows on trees.

Starting at the top, Impeachment is just Step 1 in the effort to hold all of the "Coup Klutz Klan" accountable for their sedition and insurrection...

Next we need to identify all the Repub collaborators in the House who gave the "pre-operational" tours and other surveillance opportunities to the insurrectionists - and prosecute them....

Then, hold all the Repub House and Senate members accountable for spreading the "Big Lie" - inciting their followers to violence...kick them out and forbid them from holding office again...

And let the investigation continue to identify and prosecute all the domestic terrorists that trampled on our Constitution at the Capital on Jan 6th...

Trump has already 'nyah-nyah' 'd that he was not coming. He can't act civil or behave himself so why invite him to come? He should be made to surrender his passport that very day.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

I imagined trump leaving the WH humiliated, still kicking and whining, but could never have imagined this level of humiliation, removed from presidential duties, banned from twitter, alienated from his party except for a rabid few and even Ivanka trying to distance herself.....

His businesses facing boycott, banks refusing to lend are the icing on the cake.

Someone who tried to overthrow democracy and was responsible for baiting a crowd of brainless, bigoted hooligans into attacking and killing police officers deserves all of that and more!!!

10 ( +12 / -2 )

The usual suspects, still can't accept Biden's win.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

To hold an impeachment trial in or around Inauguration Day is not only inappropriate, but is a self-defeating act of political idiocy.

Allowing events on a day that should be devoted to bringing unity from chaos and division, to heal and so bridge the bitter chasm in American society, only to stoke a toxic partisan self-serving objective, of a political class clearly at war with itself.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

The impeachment is a start, there are more than a few GOP senators and house members who encouraged and helped the supremacists in gaining access to the Capitol.

There are reports that the GOP collaborators even help identify the Democrats for the purpose of attacking them.

It takes a certain level of bigotry to want to physically harm your fellow lawmakers, and these bigots are going to be in prison for a long time.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

This whole process could be construed as a twenty first century politically poisonous brand of McCarthyism.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

The impeachment is just the first step. If everything that has been revealed so far can be corroborated, there could be at least 3 US representatives worth being arrested, tried and jailed almost for life. Mo Brooks is the most obvious case of those 3 since he was on the stage alongside Trump, Giuliani, Don Jr. and co. to get the crazy crowd pumped up.

In any case, the war against domestic terrorists cannot end until the authorities deploy the full extent of the resources that were once used against foreign terrorism.

Rose McGowan Slams Impeachment as ‘Cult Propaganda … Mass Distraction’: Elites Ignoring ‘Country’s Starving, Sick, And Poor’

Here's a bit of truth.

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

There are clear parallels in the accusations of having Trumpist sympathies, to then attack anyone who criticize/ question House Speaker Nancy Pelosi methodology/political motivation in pushing articles of impeachment.

Then witness House Speaker Nancy Pelosi/social media executives argument against freedom of speech because Trumps rhetoric, in such discussion or formulation of opinion, underlyingly implies, questions, Joe Biden's election success as dangerous and un-American.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

“Like all of you, I was shocked and deeply saddened by the calamity at the Capitol last week"

And the lies continue. He was not shocked or saddened. Reports are that he looked on gleefully from the WH as the events unfolded, and he did nothing to stop it. WH staff wrote the speech and told him he had no choice but to read it in order to save his skin, so he read it begrudgingly. LOSER to the end.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

For the life of me, I can’t see how that’s going to unite the country. Biden should focus on building his cabinet, focus on his agenda (we still don’t know and move the country into a new chapter) he doesn’t do that, so much for a peaceful transition, this is only going to stir up more resentment, now the new incoming freshmen GOP Greene wants to bring articles of impeachment on Biden and she’s getting more support from the right, this is just all so bad, the infighting and constant tit for tat is not helping the country. Impeachment is always bad for the country, just censure Trump and be done with it, at least on that they could get more bipartisan support.

-17 ( +2 / -19 )

I watched President Trump’s speech and I read his speech, and if that was an incitement of insurrection, many Democrats will need to resign for their innumerable incitements before I would take these impeachment proceedings seriously.

To be fair; Trump uber supporters aren't known for their critical faculties. They see and hear what they want.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Poor Joe, no one really cares about him.

I'm sure someone desperate enough will upvote his posts.

Biden’s first 100 days are starting out with a bang. Har har har.

This reads like the kind of veiled threats on extremist sites like Parler, 8chan, Gab etc.

It really has no place here.

Biden’s first 100 days are starting out with a bang. Har har har.

Once again the far right are LOLing at the problems their Trump is leaving behind. That just shows they're still siding with their Trump, not the US. Their disdain for the republic is clear.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

For the life of me, I can’t see how that’s going to unite the country.

Trump and his cultists spent the past 4 years spewing hate and trashing anyone they disagreed with. That rightists don't like impeachment use immaterial.

Biden should focus on building his cabinet, focus on his agenda

The impeachment has nothing to do with Biden, who has been largely silent on the issue. Keep going.

GOP Greene wants to bring articles of impeachment on Biden and she’s getting more support from the right,

And? It's going nowhere. Greene is a Q Anon but job, whose membership to Congress debases it's very institution.

. Impeachment is always bad for the country

And just looking over Trump's conduct will be even worse.

just censure Trump

I can't believe a Trump person is saying this. This comment is an assault on "the greatest president since Lincoln" and this is said by a Trump person?

More usual suspect.

Truth Hurts!

Is it just me who thinks that this is staged by DEMS? Why else would TRUMP instigate this riot? In what way would it serve him? I don't know but everything seems to be staged for OUSTING him especially that ridiculous BLM . As far as I know and because I wasn't born yesterday racial discrimination didn't just start happening on his term. By the way, I'm not a Trump supporter.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

Is it just me who thinks that this is staged by DEMS?

Heck no Buddy - I'm with you...

We all know the truth...

That wasn't Giuliani speaking up there on Jan 6th urging "combat" - that was Obama in a mask...

And that wasn't Don Jr yelling and screaming to "fight the steal", that was Hillary with a fake beard...

And it sure wasn't Trump telling the crowd to march to the Capitol, that was Alec Baldwin...

And the whole production was directed by Elvis....

I read about the whole thing on Newsmax....

What a capital idea. Convene an impeachment trial at the beginning of Biden's reign. A trial that will fail as anything other than a showpiece. The charges are spurious in terms of evidentiary proof. Republicans who vote to impeach would alienate a substantial number from their base, individuals who are rather rabid and will work to unseat the offending individual - not going to happen, they will not vote for articles of impeachment. It requires 67 Senators to vote for impeachment. The entirety is disingenuous, as Trump is vacating office. The only result would be barring him from federal office, which is moot. Trump, is already an old coot, he will be four years older and pushing 80, in 2024, the next presidential election. (As evidenced by the president elect, the mental faculties will not be intact, which is to be generous).

As for 'healing'. “The only path to any reunification of this broken and divided country is by shining a light on the truth," said Rep Madeleine Dean, D-Pa, who will serve as an impeachment manager. "That’s what the impeachment vote was. That’s what the trial in the Senate will be about.” That's amusing. Reunification from an impeachment trial. Truth. And, a shining light. Completely vapid rhetoric. Fitting. If anything, it will harden and magnify the 'division'.

Madeleine Dean, is a faux or pseudo progressive, as described by journalist Dave Lindorf, who Ms. Dean represents. It is fitting she would be the impeachment manager, as she represents the neoliberalism that is embraced by mainstream and right leaning Democrats. She no more possessed by The Truth or representative of a 'shining light' as she aptly reflects the soon to be el jeffe, Mister Biden. Dean is an example of the hollow and self-righteous Democrats who are mired in rhetorical assertions and lack in all courage. Safe bets are their only intent, impeaching Trump, no matter how offensive he may be, is simply theater or reveals something more base among Democrats. Impeaching Trump is a marketing device for the next election cycle.

One might note: 147 Congressional Representatives voted against certifying the election of Biden. Which undermines the articles of impeachment or contrarywise indicates a means to censure.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Why else would TRUMP instigate this riot?

Because Trump was desperate to maintain the presidency and knew there were many Americans who believed each of the nearly 30,000 lies he told while in office and who'd be willing to violently attack the capital after hearing his dogwhistles and being told by his lawyer 'trial by combat'.

That he and his followers won't apologize for, even acknowledge the damage they've done and instead want to be seen as 'victims' says they're a pathetic group. That they LOL at the problems their Trump is leaving behind says they're also anti-American.

Bass:. Biden should focus on building his cabinet

Biden isn't involved in the impeachment. He is putting together his cabinet and focusing more n Covid, unlike Trump.

now the new incoming freshmen GOP Greene wants to bring articles of impeachment

Yep. Always nice when a GOP member just come right out of the gate and declares themselves to be a nutjob.

"Impeachment is always bad for the country"

Then don't commit impeachable offenses. And if holding your guy accountable for his actions doesn't unite you with us, that's your problem.
