Trump is an Archie Bunker-style bigot. Both he and his father were convicted for racial discrimination against blacks in housing, and then fined again for failing to live up to their sentence. He has repeatedly denounced Hispanics and Muslims. Despite his protestations of tolerance, he nominated the most homophobic governor in the US for VP. His misogyny is well documented. Steve Bannon, his Karl Rove, has written numerous articles denouncing Jews. His Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, would be more at home in Birth of a Nation than the Jeffersons. Trump couldn't be more of a bigot if he donned a white hood and cloak.

Didn't MLK's niece, Alveda King, vote for Trump? Apparently she didn't see Trump as a racist or bigot. Liberals still believe that it was angry, racist, white males who elected Trump, but this is apparently not the case.

Trump is an Archie Bunker-style bigot.

Everyone is a bigot, including yourself. You are bigoted against Trump, against those whom you identify as conservatives, and those who don't agree with your particular ideology. Bigotry is not just racial, but religious, political, and ideological. Being opposed to a thing does not make you better than the thing you oppose, but equal to it.

Hillary was a bigoted against anything and anyone outside herself, anyone who interfered with her ambitions, and though she careful to hide her feelings through politically-correct speech and actions, she could not fully hide who and what she was, and that is why she lost. Those who supported Hillary most strongly were people so blinded by bigotry for the opposing side that they couldn't see her for what she was. Nothing is more blinding than hatred, which is why hatred is the favored tool of politicians.

“He said that he is going to represent all Americans. He said that over and over again,”

And I hope he does just that.

@sangetsu Everyone is a bigot

Words connote and denote, obviously. If you're trying to normalize that word, trying to say we're all just bigots so let's move on, then I strongly disagree with you. Saying bigotry is just an everyday, common to all of us fact of life is like calling someone who supports Manchester United a Nazi just because of the team they support.

Words like 'Nazi' and 'bigot' lose their power and meaning if they're normalized. Word use and meaning evolve, but personally I'll never accept different connotations of Nazi and bigot. They'll always suggest something seriously appalling. I will only use 'bigot' to deprecate someone I think is hateful. I will never be convinced that 'bigotry' of any kind is normal.

Well played by MLK3.

Yes, the USA urgently needs to move on, and this requires a very serious change of tack.

Let's hope the septuagenarian can discover the requisite maturity for the job.

Disrespectful to the president, the presidency and the Constitution.

Everything Lewis says and does is all about race. money and partisan politics. He's built a career out of those three.

For the record, he boycotted Bush's inauguration too. He's a professional boycotter.

So if he is a bigot, how could he appoint a Black spokeswoman and have a Jewish son in law?? And what do you think of Obama being silent almost every single time when there is an attack on a White person. Why does he get a pass on that. Also, if the Dems can have a former Klansman in congress and he can change his ugly past, then that means Trump can also change if he WAS indeed a racist? Or are you saying ONLY liberals are capable of changing their past, but former liberals turned conservatives can't?

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

In the mid-1960's, Rep. Lewis marched against democrat suppression of southern blacks. Today, he has no problem living on the Democratic Party plantation. Best that he doesn't show up on Friday as he's outed himself to the world as a fraud. . . .

A very small number of black people voted for Trump. That does not make Trump not a bigot, nor does that make the criticisms of other people of his demonstrated bigotry magically go away.

Everyone is a bigot, including yourself. You are bigoted against Trump,

Yeah.... no. That's not how this works. People don't like Trump because of things he actually did. That's not bigotry, that's just being a normal thinking human with opinions. Bigotry is when you hate groups of people not for what every member of that group did, but for who those people are. So when Trump tried to call all Mexicans rapists, tried to suggest all Muslims were potential terrorists, and that a black Congressman's district must be crime-ridden because it's got a high black population, that's the textbook definition of bigotry. When we hate Trump for doing all those things, that's just cause and effect. No one hates Trump for being a white American (or orange American).

Bigots often have trouble accepting the fact that their way of thinking is deviant. They've spent so long trying to defend their hatred of whole groups of people that they can't even imagine that what they believe isn't normal, so they make up nonsense arguments and play transparent word games to try and suggest all people are just as bigoted as they are. Ultimately, they never amount to anything more than a giant waste of time that makes the bigot look like an idiot in the process.

Fake news.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Just how does anyone "represent all Americans"?

It's a figure of speech. I was trying to say something not negative about the pres-elect. My actual concern is that Trump will only represent his immediate family and the .01 - 1% of Americans, those with money and power, those that he'll benefit most from via kickbacks, insider trading and mutual backscratching. I worry he'll ignore the remaining 99 - 99.9%. I think he cares jack nada about them. But I can hope.

His misogyny is well documented. Steve Bannon, his Karl Rove, has written numerous articles denouncing Jews. His Attorney General, Jeff Sessions,

I'm sorry, but do you have proof that Bannon, Rove or Sessions arel racists? Do you have a concrete list to back up that these men are racists?

FizzBit at Jan. 17, 2017 - 08:27PM JST So when Trump tried to call all Mexicans rapists Fake news.

Rubbish. He said when Mexico sends people to the US they send rapists. And then added his usual caveat that some of them "might" be good people. It's so racists can rally round their racist leader for being so openly racist, but always leave a margin for Denial - however pathetic it might seem to those of us seeing straight through it.

To put it in perspective for ya, it's like saying I hate Goldman Sachs or warmongers or something, but then saying some of them might be okay as a get out of jail free card. When you're as twisted as Trump it gives you wiggle room with the Beliebers when making outrageous commentary. If only they could learn from their master instead of being the gullible fools they are...

Liberals are the last people on the planet to call anyone a racist. When liberals make racist statements we give them a past, when a conservative says something racially out of touch, they get a pass every time, deflect or like an Ostrich, try and keep their heads in the sand.

If only they could learn from their master instead of being the gullible fools they are...

SuperLibJAN. 18, 2017 - 05:22AM JST So tell me why blacks shun the GOP as much as they do. You guys in the GOP must have reasons you give each other, right?

Yeah, but judging from what I've seen in right-wing fora, their reasons run afoul of the profanity standards of any civilized board.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It always ends the same. They will say that black people are racist or too stupid to vote GOP. Because obviously there is no other answer.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Yeah, they always claim the democrats are racist, then have no answer as to why black people prefer the democrats not just by a slight margin, but rather nearing totality. Then the point out that a few black people are republicans, as if those people cancel out the overwhelming majority that prefer the democrats.

There is a reason why black people don't vote Republican for the most part, and it's because the Republican party does not represent or even respect their interests.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Just look at this thread. Republicans are trashing a civil rights hero. How do you think that will be viewed in the black community?

They are nominating Sessions for AG, a man who was deemed too racist to be appointed as a judge. How do you think the black community will look at that?

Trump refused to rent to black people in his real estate office. How does that look?

How do you think they look at voter suppression laws designed to remove them from the democratic process?

Trump thanked black people for not voting after a comical "you live in filth so what do you have to lose?" campaign pitch. How did that look?

How many minorities in Trump's cabinet? How does that look?

Repubs will be along shortly to give a line by line explanation for all of these situations, and racism will not be talked about in any way. Anything less than a live video of someone lynching a black man opens the door for "well, you can't break into his mind and produce an EKG that spells out the word RACIST so technically you can't prove anything."

Let them lose the black vote forever for all I care.

@Bass4Funk

Sup, please tell me how have Obama and the Democrats enriched the Black community over the last 8 years and made it better? Tell me all the progress they've made

You:re off base! Turn your looking glass the other way. We are already enriched. It was NOT the black community that has made progress. It was the white community that FELL behind. Backstepped is more like it.

It was NOT black people who enslaved other but white people. Those same white people started making progress in their hearts as they started seeing people of color as human being and equals. We didn't have to make progress to reach that level. Your logic implies that people of color were not even homo-sapiens.

It's complete the opposite. White people were making progress. Over the last 8 years, it's been the a downhill slide for white people.

You can't talk about the Black community. You don't live there. Don't want to live there. The black community doesn't make the guns. We don't produce the drugs. We don't captain the Coast Guard or the FBI or DEA that allow the drugs to enter this country. The Black community does not control the financial markets.

So be clear BASS. Get real with yourself. Let's talk about all the progress they've been denied. Lets talk about the white privledge. And if you really really want to get real. Lets go all the way back to Public Enemy "Fear of a Black Planet" and discuss the paranoia in the flyover states.

Then WE, as a people, whatever color you might be, can talk about making progress.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

You:re off base! Turn your looking glass the other way. We are already enriched. It was NOT the black community that has made progress.

That's right! Under this president, they didn't!

It was the white community that FELL behind. Backstepped is more like it.

It was the president and the Democratic Party that FAILED to include them, the Democrats undermined them for way too long and they rose up and this is what we got, division in the country, racially especially. On target and on track!

It was NOT black people who enslaved other but white people.

Blacks sold other Blacks into slavery, that's one reason how many Whites could get readily fresh supplies of slaves.

Those same white people started making progress in their hearts as they started seeing people of color as human being and equals. We didn't have to make progress to reach that level. Your logic implies that people of color were not even homo-sapiens.

Apparently, you never grew up in the south.

It's complete the opposite. White people were making progress. Over the last 8 years, it's been the a downhill slide for white people.

So then liberals shouldn't be surprised that Trump one. Obama promised he was going to be the president for the people, instead he became president for Europe, the rest of the world and minorities and NOT for ALL Americans.

You can't talk about the Black community. You don't live there. Don't want to live there. The black community doesn't make the guns.

May I ask one simple question? How would you know where I lived or how I grew up?

We don't produce the drugs. We don't captain the Coast Guard or the FBI or DEA that allow the drugs to enter this country. The Black community does not control the financial markets.

But the majority of the Black communities in the Urban cities have some of the highest crime rates. So if you look at cities like Chicago that have crimes 4 times higher than LA or NY combined that should set off alarm bells and what did Obama do about the off the charts Black on Black crime? He did nothing. He had 8 years and did nothing for these people.

So be clear BASS. Get real with yourself. Let's talk about all the progress they've been denied. Lets talk about the white privledge. And if you really really want to get real. Lets go all the way back to Public Enemy "Fear of a Black Planet" and discuss the paranoia in the flyover states.

I think it's about time Black leaders and the Black community take charge and accept personal responsibility and accountability. Playing the victim card or wanting and demanding reparations is never going to happen and having a grudge on your shoulder won't change that. Every ethnic and religious group suffered at one time or another throughout history and these injustices will continue until the end of time.

Then WE, as a people, whatever color you might be, can talk about making progress.

Progress can only be made when certain groups slide the chip off their shoulders and stop demanding and wallowing about the past. I don't like Obama, but to his credit, he didn't feel sorry for himself, he worked hard, got off his butt and worked his way up to become the first Black president, commendable achievement, no doubt about it, but other Blacks need to have that same drive and not look at the past and scream and think everyone is a racist, that in itself is a racist mental tendency in reverse.
