Partly. In Xi's case, it's more like "invite the people who you want to emulate and find out how they do it". So I agree that he will likely invite other unsavory types, to pick their brains. It's going to be like a mega-seminar on how to suppress your serfs.

Never going to happen for a number of reasons. Why Trump would invite world leaders with what should be a celebration of USA democracy is odd but on brand.

Trump's already promoting Tuls Gabbard, who's long been suspected of being a Russian asset, and why would he promote someone like that if he knew she was perceived in that way?
